Your videos seem kinda laidback and effortless, but I alway come away feeling like I’ve had the gear in my own hands. What I’m trying to say is, your reviews are top class. Cheers Jordan
Your content is awesome! As someone currently looking to purchase some new audio equipment for my home setup, I really appreciate how many combinations you talk about, and how simply you break things down!
I agree that the more practical solution would be to have the cable storage on the bottom of the arm, but I think the reason they didn't do that is because the weight of the cables would likely make the plates fall off. They would have to use very strong magnets or some other plate retention mechanism to keep that from happening.
They can afford strong magnets. They just cheaped out. I'd pay an extra $5 bucks for some strong magnets and under storage. heck I'd pay an extra $20 if they had a more elegant design than knobs and an Allen wrench. It looks flimsy and I move my gear around a lot in a day so I can imagine it breaking after a year.
Hi Jordan. As I mentioned in a review I left on another of your review videos I feel compelled to support you and your services so I've ordered the Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP through your affiliate link. All the best and keep up the good work!
I bought this mic arm and like 1 month after having it it would just sink. I tightned it as much as I could and it just didn't support the s7mb. Maybe I got a dud.. but wack.
Those are a lot of compromises with this mic arm. I'm on the fence. I do prefer an under vs over setup but those magnets are super weak and the joints seem like they're hard to manage. Instead of having to loosen and tighten as I go which would eventually break the joints I'd prefer something with tension that just stays where I put it. As someone who adjusts things a hundred times a day I'm not sure I trust tension knobs and Allen wrenches.
hi, you noticed the magnetic plates, you wished they where on the bottom ?? is it possible to loosen that screw that far it comes off and flip that arm basicly upside down and screw it back ? then you can put the cable in there when it comes from under the microphone.
You have no idea how helpful this was for me. Thank you. I am looking to mount an Elgato Facecam to a podium, and its edges are not horizontal but vertical. That changes everything, and I am having a very tough time finding a boom arm that I'm confident will not spin or move after it is in place. The time you spend with the clamp helps me a lot. In your opinion, would this be a good arm to clamp to a vertical piece wooden edge instead of horizontal?
I've just put this exact setup together thanks to your awesome video, thank you mate! It's made me realise I need a longer XLR cable to thread through the Wave stand to then hook up to a cloudlifter which I'll strap under the table. Any recommendations on length of the cable mate? Cheers!
Im panicking a bit here. I can only find one of the thread adapters which are included in the mic arm and its not the thick round one. Its not screwing all the way through with the second adapter included which is the one thats threaded on the outside.
Hello, I’ve bought this boom arm and so far love it, and really appreciate your review on it. However I have been having issues finding any permanent flanges that works with it. Do you have any recommendations?
Hi, I have a quick question, my desk has a metal frame where the clamp would generally lock on, can you tell me how deep the clamp goes into the desk? this will help me with my purchase decision.
Hey, thanks for the informative review. I’m trying to decide between the Rode PSA1 that you’ve spoken highly of and the Elgato. If adjustability is very important to me, which of the two would you recommend? I’d appreciate any insight, thanks again!
Great review I ended up buying this whole setup based on how flexible it is with the mounting options (I got the one that you don't need the Allen key so it has a knob to tighten by hand.. Got one question though if you don't mind answering. The extension tube? I'm planning on buying a gain booster so will want to mount the extension tube on it... Is it the elgato extension rod your using or the shure one.. I know this arm comes with adapters but unsure what I should buy. Many thanks
Hey, Quick question. I have this arm and mine only came with one tension knob installed (at the mic ball head), and not at the end of arm like yours. I checked other videos and seems to be intended the way I received it. Did yours come like that or did you install that yourself?
It seems like the initial batch only had one. Mine was in the second batch and all new ones seem to have 2. I would reach out to Elgato and try return/upgrade.
I just recently got this arm and my SM7B seems way too heavy, I feel like I’m over tightening one of the arms just to keep it up, any reason why this is? Or is it typically normal to feel like you have to really put a lot of strength into tightening it?
I think you can see in this video, we never had to put an unusual amount of effort into tightening the stand to hold the microphone in a variety of positions. This is why we try to leave these videos long and without cutting out all of the mundane details - we try to demonstrate what it's like to actually use it. You shouldn't need a tool or extra leverage to tighten the tension knobs.
Mine is doing the same with the SM7B. just falls to the desk. ive tried tightening it to the point i cant anymore. I talked to elgato support and basically nothing they can do. so ive accepted the fact that it just doesnt work well with this mic.
@@_Doom_20 It looks like there may be two versions of this product floating around. One that has an additional knob (where the two arms connect), and another that requires an Allen key for that location. At the moment, if you go to the official product page, you can even see photos showing two different versions. I received the version with the knob, and it seems to hold my Rode Procaster (with added pop filter and shock mount) just fine. I did have to tighten it quite a bit, though. I have the Shure SM7B arriving this week, and am hoping that'll work just as well with this arm. If you notice in the video, @Kettner Creative seems to have the version with the knob. I'd be curious to know which version people are using when they're reporting that this arm doesn't hold weight. @Radio Impound Podcast and @James Morales Photography ?
I just got this arm and immediately my mic no generates a crap ton of desk noise (I can hear my computer fans in my headphones) - how'd you use this without a shockmount? I have a PodMic - and Rode doesn't make a book arm for it :( You didn't really test the mic, could you? I swear I had no noise with my cheap boom arm and when I went to this, my mic is unusable.
I don't know what to tell you. I use this arm as my daily driver and like it fine. For me, it does a good job. Rode does make a boom arm for the PodMic, you can check out the PSA1 or PSA1+
@@kettnercreative Yeah I had a boom arm that didn't have sound, it's this Elgato one that is so odd. I may have to ditch it. I have limited space so trying to find a nice clean way to have my mic that can be moved when not in use..struggling right now lol.

Just place the tool inside the cable management, so it won’t get lost 😊
Modern problems require modern solutions.

Thanks for showing both options with/without the extension tube!
You bet!

just figured id put this comment here, I just bought it and it now comes with a hole at the bottom and top so its a non issue now

I have a similar boom arm and I think it takes up space on my desk. I find it difficult to reach things on my left side.
Thank you so much 🙏🏽 Buying this Mic Arm right now after this video.
Great review, as usual. If it were me, I’d Velcro the Allen key to the underside of the horizontal portion of the arm, nearest the desk clamp.
For sure. After making this video I had the idea to dump the Allen Key into the cable tray near the clamp. Seems like a good spot.

Thank you for this upload. No fluff, insightful content.
Happy to help.
Very useful. Thank you!
Excellent review man...great job!
Really nice video for a first time buyer. Setup etc. Gj!
Alan keys do suck, but at least you can put it in the magnetic part of this arm in with the cable. Trick is remembering that's where you put it.
What you do at 9:01 I can’t even do with my sm7b mounted….
Thank you for the review! Had to buy one based on your recommendations. Keep doing your thing!
Awesome! Thank you!
Put the Allan key in the cable management compartment
このマイクアームにSM7Bはどうなのか気になってたから助かるー!!!!
I’m using an sm7b and my elgato wave low profile arm sags and the twist kno at the second part of the arm is extremely tight
What is the height of the boom arm that goes under the monitor? How much clearance do I need under the monitor?
Great video. Would the Rode Podmic USB work with this arm?
Pity about the 60mm desk clamp limitation, I need 70mm. The design of the desk clamp also makes clamping down on fancy edges problematic.

Anyone else having trouble with the weight of the SM7B on this arm? I tightened that knob really well and the mic just drops. Doesn’t hold the weight.
Yes, same here

As a general rule, I recommend 10ft/3m cables.
@@kettnercreative Awesome, thanks again dude, keep up the great work!
Thanks, super helpful & excellent review! Appreciate you Jordan
what size is the pin tha goes into the desk mount ?
Also wondering about that. Id love to use it with the PSA1s fixed desk mount.

I wish this mic arm was similar to the OC White Ultima Mic Arm. Then I'd be all over it. The current Elgato LP Mic Arm has some pain points.

Thanks so much for this review.
Very well made video.
where do you get the thread adapter to hook these 2 together?
aaaarg. why did they put the cable shafts on top :(
does it supports blue yeti x ?
Well done, get examples and demo!

Can you Kettner make comparison behringer umc 202hd and focusrite solo with a connected shure sm7b? I think it would be very interesting
As a general rule we avoid Behringer gear. I hate buying it, even if it’s for a video where I can talk about everything that doesn’t work.
do you think there is enough room to fit a inline preamp inside the arm?
If you had a Dynamite or Fethead you could. But not a Cloudlifter.
I went through the process and it works well but I don’t have audio from either the projector nor iPad, any suggestions?
