I just got this mic and a full-size go xlr. After watching this video, I'm guessing I should leave the mic switches on default and use my go xlr eq to mix.
Unscrew the screws above and below the switches. Only those 2 screws. Then, put on the cover with the logo facing you and screw the screws back on. That's how I assume one puts it on due to there being only 2 screw holes in the shield, but I also do not have the manual anymore to verify.
Mmm sounds better with both off I think. So for me they will remain that way. Thank you for redirecting me here. As always liked and already subbed dude. 🙏🔥🤟👍
Thanks so much for the video ! What’s your recommended sethings for vocal recordings at my home studio ? Untreated room with my kid at home making noise sometimes 😅
I'd say to keep it flat, like in the video where he talks about it changing the audio altogether, you can't get that data back, but you can always reduce it. In a DAW, you can EQ the sound, which is pretty much what the mic is doing when you're using those switches. It's not very refined though like you would be able to in a DAW.
Thanks for the video, very informative but I have two questions: What did you meant about using the switches being bad to use for general? Does it break the microphone in long term? (my english is not the best, I didn't quite understand that part) Also, what configurations on the microphone (the switches) do you recommend for someone who wants to make RUclips video's and or Streaming?
@@kettnercreative for some reason when I tried both the switches down it sounded OK but it didn't sound as good as I thought it would. Then I had the base roll off switch engaged but the other switch turn down and it sounded terrible. Then I tried it with both switches up, it sounded very bland and lifeless. I must be doing something wrong
Hi all. My situation: a huge top fan blowing down the stage where I’m going to perform. (I don’t have change to rehearse again) For low cut switch, can it cut away some bleed into the mic? I was given a small portable speaker on stage, can the boost button help to increase my volume a little? Thanks. 🙏
The top pass filter sounds much better when I use quality monitors for listening, the flat characteristic makes the bass too pronounced to the point of being unnatural.
My Shure smb7 and Scarlett 2i2 are working just fine, but my mic only produces sound in my headphones. How can I make my mic to sound louder outside or without my headphones.
What setting (if using) would you recommend for a male with a deep voice, looking to sing into this mic, but who feels his voice keeps getting lost in a type of mud with this mic?
What is the best recommendation to using this mic for a home studio with recording music? I just got this mic and I’m still learning a lot about it all
Use the flat response instead of the roll-off or presence boost I'd say. In the video, he mentioned the signal/audio being destructively altered, meaning that the data that you'd have normally wouldn't be there in the recordings now. You can always EQ your recording to sound like the bass roll-off but you wouldn't be able to make the base roll-off the same as the factory standard with the mic. EQ stands for "Equalization," and that's essentially what those switches on the back are doing, but very limited, where as in a D.A.W. (Digital Audio Workstation), you can EQ with plugins on all recordings. It's more whether you'd have the time or access to being able to do those things yourself, or if you'd rather not do that or have anyone to be able to do it for you. If you're learning about that stuff though, then I don't see why you wouldn't want to do those things since you'd be able to do it. Each DAW is different in stock stuff, but 3rd party plugins can also be used. Can always ask me questions.
Unlikely. The noise from the preamp is not as noticeable in a live environment. Also, singers generally project a lot better than someone recording a podcast.
@@TheCrispyChip Yeah. I think we've covered the "destructive editing" thing on many different videos for audio mixers as well. A lot of people were bugging us for a specific video to answer this. Hopefully it's not too repetitive for everyone. Just trying to make stuff easier to find.
Explaining what situations to use these settings was very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Fun fact, there is an italian guy out there who had this mic for 5 years and never knew these switches existed.
just came here from that exact tiktok lol
Shows how "smart" they are...
Ma proprio Italiano, o no? Dove hai vissuto in Italia?
Very well-done video. Thank you for the clear, in-depth explanations
That was brilliant, hell of an expertise and very well explained - thank you!
most precise and clear info, ty

This guy knows what he is talking about. Maybe you can help me understand how to install the switch cover. There is absolutely nothing I could find.
Okay, I'll make a video on it tonight... If I can find my switch cover...
I have to order another one... It'll be a week or so until I can make the video.

This was very helpful. However, I can't hear much of a difference with the high-pass on vs off.
Great video Jordan! What would you suggest the best settings would be for an opera singer with a Tenor voice?
Thanks so much for the video !
What’s your recommended sethings for vocal recordings at my home studio ? Untreated room with my kid at home making noise sometimes 😅
Speaking for myself I’d keep it flat and just EQ in your DAW or preamps as you see fit !

WELCOME BACK JORDAN
Thanks :) Good to be back.
thnaks for comparation. and explanation. So now i can see what i do. Thank you thank you.
Excellent. Clear and no superfluous welcome to my video bullshit.
Excellent tutorial!
It's better to have the presence boosting switch engaged but the other switch at the flat position, adds a more balanced sound to the microphone.
It's all subjective. I prefer to have them flat.

Super helpful video. Thank you!
Thanks for the informal video!
You're welcome.
... I'd say "very professional video" to be honest.
Even Shure doesn't produce anything even close about their products 🙏🏼

Do the highbrows, sounds amazing!
you're gonna have to EQ quite a bit of low mids out anyway, I wouldn't rely on the switches
scuseme, why do background noise can be heard? I mean, there is a natural and raw audio from sm7b?

Jordan from Ketner Kreative needs to get closer to the mic. Good information though. Thank you much, buddy! :-)
great video
Nice. Thank you.

I have a question.. If i use it for my gigs on stage, do i still need a cloud lifter?
Unlikely. The noise from the preamp is not as noticeable in a live environment. Also, singers generally project a lot better than someone recording a podcast.

How often did you say "shure SM7B" in this video?
I imagine quite a few times since it's the subject of this video
Didn't you already tell us this xD
I don’t think so? But maybe.
@@kettnercreative maybe in one of your sm7b videos :p

First time I'm coming across it so I totally appreciate it!
you never compare with different texts for voice-over..
I sound robotic on my mic and can't seem to figure it out
Too much gain and/or compression
Thank you so much!
