Yea, it highly depends on your needs and how flexible you need it. I have a large workplace (180x80 cm desk with another 140x80 cm desk on the right side turned by 90°, so overall its 260x140 cm). Mic arms are most often too short for me to be mounted on the back and over/under my monitor. Another downside of this rear setup is that the arm and mic are always restricting your view on the monitor or get in the camera field when you stream, which I really do not like. Even when mounting those on the rear right side the arm always comes in front of the right side of my monitor. Now, I got the LP and having it mounted directly to the right side of my mouse position I can not only easily move it to my face or away with one simple hand move but it also does not get into my view, anymore. I use it with the sE Dynacaster DCM8 and once set up the magnetic holders stay in place even with a thick XLR cable (0,38 mm) - you just need to have some cm of the cable look out of the holes and not tighten it completely, of course. Also note to mention is that the LP can hold heavier Mics than the HP which comes in handy.
Great review, man! It helped me a lot. I also see that you're fairly new making content on RUclips, and you're already over 1K subs. Congratulations! Keep going and don't stop. Your very chill and down to Earth review style is pretty unique and can take you places.
Thank you for this. I was torn because I also like my space to be less crowded but that's a real challenge so I was leaning towards LP, but seeing it not clear your monitors underneath well changed my mind. Also, the plate popping off so easily is also a deal breaker for me.
The clearance isn’t good for iMacs but other monitors usually have height adjustment so it wouldn’t be an issue there. Yeah the plate popping off was unfortunate but some Velcro zip ties would fix that. both are great in their own ways but I’m happy with the boom arm.
When you're telling us that the LP doesn't fit under your monitor (messing up the level with your iMac), why not tell us the distance to the top of the first horizontal segment? In fact, you don't give any measurements. I went to Elgato's site, and they bury it. Here they are for anyone wondering: HORIZONTAL REACH 740 mm / 29.1 in LOWER ARM DESK CLEARANCE 70 mm / 2.8 in UPPER ARM DESK CLEARANCE 160 mm / 6.3 in An overall excellent, very professionally done video.
5:08 I've heard from Elgato, they've updated it since to fix this issue. I assume they've increased the magnets surface area, since that's what solves this problem. A stronger magnet isn't really a reliable long-term solution. When the magnetic force is distributed along a larger surface area, it has more longevity over prolonged use, and increases the strength. Hopefully that's the fix they implemented...
It can, you can use the bracket that holds the mic (this comes with the mic) and attach that bracket directly to the mic arm. The shock absorber is not required. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and your support! ✌🏽
Excellent review. I'm going with the LP because I'm not doing any camera work with it, and my 3 monitors will each have its own articulating arm, so I can raise and tilt them to make room.
Glad the video helped. Yeah the LP is great just not for my setup. I do plan to switch to adjustable monitor arms in the future so I might reconsider the LP at that time. It really does some down to your own individual setup! Thanks for watching ✌🏽
I’m in the same situation as you and I still use the over the top boom arm. I have it coming in from off the side so it doesn’t cover my camera. The LP would be great as well if you have the clearance from underneath your monitor.
Thank you this helped with my decision, recently purchased both and found that low profile has decreased range of motion on a larger desk. Current desk is 180cm x 70cm and was forced to mount on the front of desk or sides with the LP. Waiting for HP to arrive and test.
Hey glad I was able to help! Yeah the LP is nice aesthetically but has its limits and I came to the same conclusion. The HP is more versatile and the range of motion is absolutely great! Thanks for watching and your support! ✌🏽
I am also looking for a solution so i can move my screens closer to me (possibly on a arm in the near future, but one doesn't have a VESA mount option). What is the height of the LP one at the start (that goes underneath the screen), must be 10 or 11 centimeters? Other options for me are a pole / system pole, so the normal Wave Mic Arm (but it's only a small pole) or maybe Yellowtek. But... Yellowtek is very expensive.
Hi. What is the iphone holder thing at 7:34 got link for it? Do you need somekinda adapter for it or does elgato arm come with adapter for it so you can screw it in
I just purchased the Wave mic Arm because the LP won't work as I have a laptop on a stand that would block it. I however don't have it come over the top of my monitors its fine coming from the side. Build quality is good and I've been impressed with the product.
Felt the same way. The LP wasn’t low enough to come from under my monitor. Since this video, I’ve done the same. The mic arm comes from the side. Loving this boom arm!
Yup it should work. Both the over the top and low profile have large channels to run cables trough even for XLR mics. Thanks for watching and your support! ✌🏽
I am still a coin toss between the two for my setup. I could use both but only will get one. May get one for my repair bench and mount a panel LED. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
LP's range of motion is stubby and short, less access to move it around, honestly inconvenient for my setup that's why I say it sucks. @@JustAnotherYou2ber
Which microphone arm do you prefer and which one do you use? Thanks for watching!
i use none but am thinking of getting the elgato wave arm and the hyperx solocast
I got the lp
Thank you so much. I was struggling to decide which one to buy and you helped a lot. I am going with the LP version. Thank you so much.

I prefer a shotgun mic since I don't want a mic in my face whatsover.

Great comparison. Thanks for purchasing both of the products to make a guide on which one works best for us.
Hey glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Which one did you ultimately go with?!
@@InfinniteLifeI went with the over the monitor setup. I think it works best for my setup, but it's probably not ideal for everyone.

excellent display of each and their range of motion.

Great review … helped my decision… plan to go with HP
Hey glad I could help! Yeah I’m loving my HP! Great boom arm!
can the lp point a mic horizontally or just vertical?
It should be able to. The ball head connector at the end of the LP will allow you to orient any mic in any direction.
Big like bro
I ! Can i put an XLR cable ?
Yes
I'll take the fifine lp for 40.00
I still can't choose
Test out both in your setup. See which works best. I was in the same situation. So it helps actually having it and which one you like more.
