  • I bought this CX500 in July 2022. It’s sat in a garage since 1995! 32’000 mikes. Actually in quite good condition. I’m thinking it needs a good overhaul which I’m going to be doing through August and filming it all. The work will be published through August 2022 in short parts of approximately 20 min, and then I’m hoping to eventually film me riding it. Hope you watch and enjoy. Big thanks to all who watch. 😃

    You are a true back street mechanic hero. The bike looks lovely. I have had 2 CX 500's over the years. Both of which I did a complete engine rebuild . Your method of operation is the same as I have been employing since 1987 . Bin the king and queen seat. And that horrible rack. Thank you for producing this video

      Hey thanks for your positive comment. Ive been on the bikes since 1990 when I bought my first. Never not owned a bike since. You did well to rebuild a CX500.big job that. I was lucky my engine was sweet. 😃

    Had a red 1978 as the only new bike I've ever owned. Loved it. Would love to have another one but so many have been butchered into "cafe racers" :(

    The XX500 was a favourite of bike couriers in London in the 80s - there were hundreds of them. A great bike for that job. Back then we used a spray called Plus-Gas on stubborn screws. I presume they are all. JIS screws with a single dot.

    Nice story! I recently bought a 1983 CX500 which has been abandoned since 1992. With only 16,500mls on the clock, the CX was stored in a dry garage. The previous owner had always plans to restore it as it was his very first bike, but he died early. His widow sold the CX to a bike wrecker, but I bought the Honda with deep respect to restore it just like the man planned to do. A CX 500 enthusiast will recondition the engine with new gaskets, check the cam chain tensioner and some more things. I'm going to do the rest, the carburetors are already as good as new again and a couple of parts are bought. My target is to visit a classic bike meeting in May, 2024 with the bike. Greetings from Germany, Michael

    Great videos......enjoyed each stage of the restoration. Plain, simple, informative and no nonsense stuff, which I like. Felt a real connection with that wee bike, as I owned one from new back in 1981. Your footage brought back many happy memories, including holidays riding it from my home in Northern Ireland to the South of France, where it never missed a beat. Loved it and have regretted selling it ever since! Keep up the great videos and ride safe.

    Bro, that's looking so good! I'm praying that your tank holds out, I had to strip all my paint, weld about 20 pinholes, and then do an epoxy liner to get mine to stop leaking. It's worth it though.

    G'day Tim, great video, I'm restoring a CX500 too. How did you get the clear plastic brake reservoir off the brake reservoir body? Did it just pull clear? Awesome job on the bike and videos.

    You have heard the term “all the gear and no idea”but you sir seem to have all the gear in your garage and all the ideas can you give me some more details on that cable lube attachment thingy ?
    Another gem of a video Tim and I noticed in this one you would have thrown some money at the old girl any idea how much you have spent on her to date ?
    Great job Tim really enjoying your vids

      It’s just a hydraulic able oiler. I think there on eBay. Not expensive either. I’ve used one years. Great bit of kit. Not spent much, Brahe kit and screen most expensive at over £50 each. Battery about £35. Service items. Not much at all really. Glad you like anyway and thanks for your comment 👌

    Your front calipers are upside down, the bleed nippels are supposed to be at the top, and fluid enters the caliper form the lower hole.

    • @tkbikes1
      @tkbikes1  Год назад +1

      Definitely not the wrong way round. The threads are completely different. You can’t mix them up.

    • @rover100bunson
      @rover100bunson Год назад

      hi, i took a screenshot 9f your brakes and one from google, how to change cx500 front wheel, the google image does indeed show the fluid line into bottom hole and bleed nipple in top hole, which is exactly what you would expect, so i dont know maybe your calipers have been worked on at some point in time

    • @tkbikes1

      Maybe they are then, rights on the left, lefts on the right back to front 🤷🏻‍♂️maybe. Bikes gone now anyway
