    I’ve been using Sailun Atrezzo ZSR’s on my BMW 535d for over 2 years now and believe they peform as well or even better than the Continentals that came on the car for a fraction of the cost. Chinese tyres were a big gamble many years ago but I now believe they are as good as many of the big brand items. I have no testing proof for this, just my opinion and observation. Wet stopping distance was my biggest surprise. They are so good 👍. Will be fitting them to an EV when I get one.

    My personal tire test (as a German car engineer living in the US).
    I recently got a Model X 75D with 20" standard wheels and (against all warnings for consumption and noise / comfort!) got a second set with 22" turbine wheels (they ones you threw OFF, Bjorn... ;-). I got those 22 rims used, went to the tire store and did NOT get the factory PIRELLI's but instead CONTINENTAL (specifically: Extreme Contact DWS 06).
    Result:
    - The difference in noise is minimal.
    - The difference in consumption is minimal (non scientific testing at 75mph: 330 Wh/mile with 20's, 350 Wh/mile with 22's)
    Very positively surprised and guess what - I am keeping the 22's. At least for now...
    Side note: in the US, the 20" factory slipstream wheels are also equipped with Conti's, not Pirellis as on the 22's which I think must be, in Bjorn-terms, CRAP! :-)
    Thanks for your very helpful videos!

    • @Thumper68
      @Thumper68 3 месяца назад +1

      The hard tires will get warm and softer while driving and have plenty of grip especially for highway use and some spirited driving. Michelin sport cup tires or those like it are extremely soft and are have horrible wear because of it. Those kind of tires are a waste of money unless you have high horsepower or a car going on track.
      Furthermore many large name brand tires are made overseas and people paying for a name.

    • @CKDMJ
      @CKDMJ 3 месяца назад

      @@Thumper68 Cannot just lump all tires into a money category as there are different tires for different jobs. ALL tires get hot then used so not sure the point of that statement. Softer compound tires are made for a few applications, oner is for high horsepower applications, one is for superior handling and the other is because softer tires make less noise, that's why they are on higher end cars. Yes soft tires wear faster, you have to weigh if you want performance or long life. Buying soft compound tires are not at all a waste of money if you benefit from them from a softer, quieter ride or better grip. Also soft compound tires are better for wet traction as some people live where it rains a lot and feel better traction is a good use of money. Buying name brand tires may cost more but those companies have centuries of experience and cannot avoid standing behind their tires. If you buy a Chinese tire can you be sure how well they are made, what their quality standards are or if they will take care of you if they fail?

  • @argilaga
    @argilaga 6 лет назад +4

    What about the hardness? It seems obvious that the Michelin are softer, that's why they wear faster and the car consumes more because of the friction. You need to do a braking test, from 100 to 0 and measure the distance to know if both have the same grip, not having weelspeen during acceleration means nothing since the car has traction control.

      Have an Honda CRV MK11 with Michelin Latitude Cross it has really great grip and comfort plus it also that mild All Season aspect to same, 'M+S' for our mild climate here in South west Ireland, great tyre for our secondary roads and rough roads with a good stiff side wall coupled with great comfort, would recommend same as when one thinks it's when the tyres get more that well used it's only then that you would be looking for same to deliver on safety... that's my view on same. It's reckoned that the cheaper tyres loose this ability very quickly compared to Premium tyres.

    Tread wear is not directly related to tire quality. There are 60k mile tires out there and 30k mile tires...the higher mileage tires will last longer and wear out slower but you won't get the same performance as the lower mile tires. You have to decide what's more important - longer lasting tire or higher performance tire that stops faster and grips the road better.

    Tire comparisons are great but always remember all the technology in the car can't do anything without those four small contact patches touching the ground. Given what Michelin spends on R&D, I'll stick with their poor life. I had a Pirelli separate at 70mph and the tread band instantly destroyed the inner fenderwell of the car. Tire construction, compounds, design are very important. At the very least, hopefully the Chinese tires coming out keep the prices of all tires competitive.

Some websites give those tires an average of 2.8 out of 5, while others gave anywhere between a 4.2 to 4.6 out of 5. Personally, I love them and only got them for 60 dollars a tire for 16 inch rims. They handle much better than my previous tires, and they are a little quieter. On wet pavement the tires never struggled, not sure what some people are talking about stating that it has extremely poor performance on everything. They do seem a little less grippy on uneven surfaces, but they are still adequate. Overall, for the price, I give the tires an 8.5/9 out of 10.

The Winrun tyre is so bad that it should be labeled with a skull alert. The magazine states that the Winrun probably is the worst new tyre they have ever tested. The tyre's road grip is lousy, with long braking distances and driving characteristics just as bad, since the tyre hardly has any side grip. It's also very poor when it comes to aquaplaning add it's hard to stop the car even on dry roads. Furthermore, the tyre is the noisiest of all tested tyres and has a high rolling resistance.

But be careful as even putting expensive tyres on if not what factory fits will most likely wear incorrect. There is a reason why tyre manufactures put oe in there tyres. We have used Michelin’s and kumho on 2014 Passat, results are kumhos scrub off inner edges fast and are a lot noise. Michelin have even wear. Tried conti on and wear like kumhos. Conti are great tyres but not suited to Passat. When tried Michelin on vw Sharan wear was terrible yet oe conti perfect.

They only have 14,000 miles [this is the 2nd set I've driven with] and are already 90% worn out [just like the first set].
    Tesla Engineers are now involved ~ and I should have a definitive answer back to my local Service Center early next week. My guess is that they will most likely switch out my Michelin Tires for another Brand. I WISH TESLA CARRIED WINRUN ~ BUT AS YOU KNOW, AT THIS MOMENT, THEY DO NOT. Maybe with more GREAT REVIEWS [like yours], they'll begin to pay special attention to this brand and start to recommend them.

  • @zanastumasonis
    @zanastumasonis 2 года назад +2

    michelin tire rubber grips better, of course that leads to more friction thus higher rolling resistance (hence more wh used), noise is the same (which shows advanced tech) even though rubber is gripping more, and of course it will wear out faster, but it gives you, again, higher grip, especially in the wet. now, reliability and testing wise, i dont think that subject even needs discussing

    Hey Bjørn. I want to buy a chinese Brand of tyre. I also live in Norway. Any perticular Brand you recomend? I have premium Continentals on my car. But i dont like them because they have very sticky rubber and this results i. ‘Steinsprut’ paint damage on my doors when i drive in my yard or gravel road. When i turn the wheels over the Stones come up on the tyre and lett go and hit the side of my car. These tyres are also getting worn out so i need new tyres. My car is a 2015 Toyota Auris. Tyres im considering are LingLong, winho, Imperial and landsail. Pleased to hear.

    I gave up on premium brands, you mostly pay for the name and nowadays I drive an estate not a fast racing bolid... I am currently running Sava Intensa UHP 2 and altho they are not chinese, they are considered mediocre European tires... Well... They are a new design and they are awesome! They cost me alot less than the equivalent Michelin, Goodyear or Continental yet they seem to be holding their own really well... Before the Savas, I gave Goodride RP28 a try (now these are pure Chinese tires)...I was stunned at how good they were. I thought that they would be half as good as premium brand ones but they are only like 10% worse in grip while (as you said) they are 1/4 of the price and hard wearing 💪... But truely this shouldnt be a shocker, Goodride is a Chinese company that makes tires from 1958 (thats more than 50 years of experience on the Chinese market). Anyone that says that Chinese tires are death traps is probably living in the past and has never tries ones

    I’ve been comparing my old Michelin’s with Hankook tires and have found them to be near identical, despite the Hankook not having the foam technology. You literally cannot y’all the difference. I’m partly being cheap, but if the Michelin’s are better qualities then I would have stuck with it. I enjoy paying for quality but Michelin has proven itself more gimmicky than anything else with the foam tech. Having said that, could you text the Hankook tires? Thanks.

    Most of the negative rating internet articles about Chinese tires are from the American tire companies. This is because they do not want China stealing their business. Most Chinese tires are good tires and even better than American brands.

    Sport tires vs 'eco' ones. Winruns rubber is harder, so less wear and less consumption. Downside could be less grip... Especially when wet and slightly cold.
    Also, Michelin has a reputation of consistent performance during lifetime.
    Michelin should make bigger energy+ sizes for big ass BEVs. Energy's go up to 16". The 'premium' Premacy tires go up to 18". After that...it's just sport tires.

      Nokian is a pretty good alternative.

      Its a known brand now that Bjorn reviewed it. I want some more details.

    • @therandomtester9561
      @therandomtester9561 6 лет назад +4

      No garantee to get the best tyre if you buy a known brand. They may perform best in tests, but how do you know these tests are the real deal? Big companies have big money... And normally you don't see many cheap tyres in tests.
      To find out, you have to test yourself, as Bjørn does.
      Wintertyres are typically tested in very cold climate in northen Sweden/Finland. Those conditions are NOT valid for climate in my region (Trondheim).
      After recent experience with some fairly good rated studless, I switched to something that I thought I'd never buy, an "european wintertyre" (Nokian WRD4). Every test and every tyreshop in Norway will say that these tyres are not suited for Norvegian winter.
      Well, the Nordic tyres may perform good on snow and ice, but very poor on tarmac and slush (to soft compound and not wide enough grooves).
      After my experience the WRD4 performed just as good (if not better) in the tough stuff as the nordic I had, and MUCH better on tarmac, slush and flour-salty-stuff with ice under.
      This is still a known brand, but for another car I bought some chinese "noname" studless, and had Nokian studded in reserve. I never put the Nokians on the car.
      So, to be safe, sure, buy known brands, but if you want to do some testing you just might be surprised of all the money you have thrown out the window on such tyres earlier in life..

    • @dk8797

      This is where Michelin and Pirelli come in. They will save your life. So my daily car is Range Rover Sport and I have Gripmax (which is Chinese brand name for the German market), and these tires cost 70% less than Michelin and Pirelli. On my M5 Competition I use Michelin tires, this is where breaking performance comes in, and you don't want to save money here. 95% have normal cars and they should buy Chinese brands like Winrun and Gripmax (which I think is the same company but different branding for different markets)

    I got some cheap Chinese tyres that cost about £50 each for the MOT test and after about 3 months they have become noisy, so much so that I took them to my local garage and they told me the inside tread is slightly bulging and although it's not dangerous yet it is really annoying, so much so I have to turn the radio up so I can't hear them. I think I will go back to good brand part worn for about £30 a tyre, that way I know Iv got something good.

    I really don't know. I was all set to get a set of Three A budget tyres, then started reading. Some videos said you get more mileage out of brand tyres ( up to double ). Some said some chinese tyres seem to reduce grip after a few thousand miles, but then others rate this Three A tyre really well after using branded tyres too. So, I was about to get some Goodyear eagle f1's. £405 for 4 fitted. Now I been offered 4 brand new Three A 245 40 18's for £40 fitted each. I mean with that £400 I can get 10 Three A tyres 🤣 I don't race, I don't drive like I stole it, I don't drive more than 3-5k miles a year. The budget tyres are B wet + C fuel.
