Hi Melissa! Thanks so much for your video. Do you have any tips or product recommendations for applying makeup on top of sunscreen? I recently started using La Roche Posay invisible fluid spf 50 which i really like because it doesn't pill or sting my eyes. But I find no matter what sun screen i use, my concealer/foundation sets into fine lines much more, it also moves around and smudges/gathers more than it does when i do not use a sunscreen. I currently use rimmel london match perfection concealer and sometimes the matching foundation. I've tried setting it with powder or with setting spray and it doesn't seem to help, it just makes the fine lines more obvious. Also I'm wondering if you know what spf is necessary on a daily basis while living in the UK? Most products are around spf 15 but i don't know if these will have high enough UVA protection. I love the La Roche Posay one that i mentioned but it's a bit expensive for everyday and I'm not sure if spf 50 is necessary! Xxx

Hyram says no... you would need to apply an exaggerated amount of that product to get effective protection. If you can, get a sunscreen that’s only sunscreen 😇
I don't think it is an issue; if you use an excellent formulation such as Paula's Choice, La Roche Posay, Cetaphil, Nivea, there shouldn't be a problem. You need to use a fair amount, as I showed in the video. The thing is, if you use poorly formulated products, it may look greasy or oily reasonably quickly. But apart from that, there isn't an issue. But most only contain SPF 25 or SPF 30, which is in almost every case enough. But if you live in Australia, where the sun is burning, I recommend SPF 50. What's most important is that you apply it evenly and maybe reapplying it when you are outside and when the sun is burning. If you seek shade most of the time wear normal protective clothing or have a regular office job, you won't need much.
Yeah, that is a bit controversial. But not many are using very heavy moisturizers anymore. If you have a traditional moisturizer such as Vaseline or the Blue Nivea, it may be best not to use it since they have a high amount of petrolatum that may influence it. But almost all (99%) "new" moisturizers are very light in texture even if they are meant for dry skin, and then they are applied before.
Can you please I mean PLEAAAAAASE tell us how to apply hyaluronic acid + vit c serum and cream + sunscreen+ foundation without breaking these and without peeling or cracking 😭😫😫😖😭😖 this makes me hate my life every morning 😭😭😭😭😭
Hi Melissa I have a combination acne prone skin. I have the ordinary Niacinamide, alpha aurbutin, lactic acid, glycolic acid toner, cerave sa cleanser and cerave moisturizer and spf30.could u help me to follow a proper routine using these products...many thanks Melissa god bless you ❤️
Hey :) How "much" acne do you have? The products you have chosen may work to reduce the look of blemishes (a few breakouts here and there). However if you have sever acne, I recommend seeing a dermatologist who can give you the right acne treatment like Benzoyl Peroxide or Adapalene or something similar to it. You could use it like this: AM Routine: - Cleanser - Niacinamide - Alpha Arbutin - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanser - Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid - (Optional) Moisturiser Use either Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid since both are AHA (chemical exfoliating acids). How often you can exfoliate your skin depends on your skin concerns and tolerance. Some people can use it daily whereas others prefer to use it only a few times per week. Depending on your SPF you may not feel the need of using a moisturiser before applying your SPF and this is fine! As for your moisturiser in general, only use it if you feel the need and your skin is/becomes dry and then just use the moisturiser on those dry areas since you have a combination skin :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank u so much , I have slightly acne but acne scars and dark spots. Currently I’m breast feeding too .is there any thing I can add to my routine makes my skin bright and fade my dark spots.
Have a look at this article: www.paulaschoice.de/en/pregnancy-and-skin-care-which-products-are-safe#:~:text=Retinol.,them%20during%20pregnancy%20or%20breastfeeding. It may be best to stop using Alpha Arbutin since it is a "derivative'" of hydroquinone, at least while you are breastfeeding. But you may be able to look for a Vitamin C serum instead, which can lighten and brighten the skin :) If your Vitamin C contains Ascorbic Acid, keep it separate from Niacinamide. If it includes a Vitamin C derivative, you can use it with Niacinamide :)
I haven't tried that one. But you can use sunscreen after any moisturizer; the thing is, it sometimes doesn't blend well.(sometimes it leads to pilling = little white flakes which almost look like your skin is rubbing off) But for that, you need to test it 😃
I am always worried my sunscreen is not forming a uniform film over my moisturizer because my skin is so very dry that I have to apply a lot of heavy moisturizer. Do you think applying lots of moisturizer affect the effectiveness of the sunscreen? I tap the sunscreen on instead of rubbing it because I have so much product underneath the sunscreen that I feel like rubbing everything together is diluting the sunscreen.
Thanks so much for replying! I also have rosacea so I can only use mineral sunscreen which I find drying unless I use the thick white pastey ones. I use hydrating and calming toner, serums, a small amount of snail gel cream or calming cica gel cream and 3 drops of facial oil and a ceramide moisturizer like carecera ap face & body cream which has petroleum. Without using facial oil or other gel creams I need more of the petroleum based moisturizer that's why I use them. Sunscreen I use pipette mineral, DRMTLGY physical spf 46 and Korean mineral sunscreen
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yes I use Peptide serums. Can you recommend some mineral sunscreen or moisturizer with spf for very dry skin? Also do you think the tapping method is appropriate for my situation?
Generally, there is no need to do this if you haven't been exposed to the sun for hours or when you sweat a lot or so that the sunscreen has time to break down. Here is a little guide: docdro.id/1IiwWWN

For the day Then at night what can I use ??? Powder ?
Yes, it is recommended to wait for at least 15 minutes after applying mineral sunscreen before going out into the sun. This allows the sunscreen to fully bind to your skin and provide the best protection against harmful UV rays.
My morning routine is hyaluron-> Vit c serume-> vit c moist Creme-> sunscreen-> foundation but as soon as I put my sunscreen on and no matter how kind I wait they break and creak and be valet off!!!! What would you suggest to stop this 😢what am I doing wrong? 😢😢😢
Hmm... In that case, your sunscreen and/or foundation formulation may not be compatible. So, it's best to get either a new sunscreen or foundation. However, do you have a lot of sun exposure? Alternatively, consider looking into a foundation with SPF included.
Ofc... it's easy buddy just remember this👉if u apply some thing in your face like skincare, make up or anything u should wash it's important u can't skip....but if u didn't apply anything on ur face then don't wash it cause it's make ur skin eroded

@@mariomario1462 Everywhere or just on one website ;) ? That website is talking about heavy mineral moisturizers, so if you use one with a lot of petrolatum, don't use it with your sunscreen; it just does not layer well. Or just tell me what moisturizer are you using?
Just put the lotion on first, then the sunscreen. The issue is if you apply a really thick moisturizer with petrolatum first, then your skin won't be able to absorb the chemicals in chemical sunscreens, as the thick moisturizer would partially block it.
@@lisajm Yes, I also do that. No, not sure why people are always saying that 😏Maybe they confuse it with the Niacinamide powder, so it is in its pure form. If you use a serum, it is stabilised and can not affect it.
No, sorry for the confusion it was specifically for people that only want to apply moisturizer and follow with sunscreen, and if there is a need to wait in between since this seems to be an issue for some people. There is no need to add moisturizer if you do not feel the need.

Hi Melissa
I have a combination acne prone skin.
I have the ordinary Niacinamide, alpha aurbutin, lactic acid, glycolic acid toner, cerave sa cleanser and cerave moisturizer and spf30.could u help me to follow a proper routine using these products...many thanks Melissa god bless you ❤️
Hey :)
How "much" acne do you have? The products you have chosen may work to reduce the look of blemishes (a few breakouts here and there). However if you have sever acne, I recommend seeing a dermatologist who can give you the right acne treatment like Benzoyl Peroxide or Adapalene or something similar to it.
You could use it like this:
AM Routine:
- Cleanser
- Niacinamide
- Alpha Arbutin
- (Optional) Moisturiser
- SPF
PM Routine:
- Cleanser
- Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid
- (Optional) Moisturiser
Use either Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid since both are AHA (chemical exfoliating acids).
Thank you Melissa🥰
Please ma how about bed time

Hii Melissa .I am using lakme pitch milk moisture .can I use sunscreen after that ? please reply
I haven't tried that one. But you can use sunscreen after any moisturizer; the thing is, it sometimes doesn't blend well.(sometimes it leads to pilling = little white flakes which almost look like your skin is rubbing off) But for that, you need to test it 😃
Ok melissa thank you so much ❤️
hie i use benzoyl peroxide gel for my acne, can you tell me how long do I have to wait before I apply my moisturizer
It depends on the gel you are using. Usually, it soaks in immediately, and you can use the moisturizer right after. If not, just give it 1-2minutes.

What's your AM routine?
What moisturizer and sunscreen do you use?
Have you ever used a moisturizer that already contains SPF?
Thanks so much for replying! I also have rosacea so I can only use mineral sunscreen which I find drying unless I use the thick white pastey ones. I use hydrating and calming toner, serums, a small amount of snail gel cream or calming cica gel cream and 3 drops of facial oil and a ceramide moisturizer like carecera ap face & body cream which has petroleum. Without using facial oil or other gel creams I need more of the petroleum based moisturizer that's why I use them. Generally, there is no need to do this if you haven't been exposed to the sun for hours or when you sweat a lot or so that the sunscreen has time to break down.
Here is a little guide: docdro.id/1IiwWWN
Hey! Can I mix moisturizer with foundation and apply it over sunscreen? Will it break sunscreen down?

What moisturizer and sunscreen do you use?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I use cerave moisturising lotion and switch between missha aqua sunscreen, 3w clinic intensive sunblock cream. No I don't wear foundation on regular basis but I was thinking to wear it mixed with moisturizer.
@@oni1853 Hm... I'm not too sure how this interacts with the sunscreen. I mean, it could work (if you just add a tiny amount of moisturizer to your foundation and let your sunscreen set before applying it on top). However, if you want to use more, I suggest doing this: moisturizer, sunscreen, wait 10-15 minutes, then foundation.

As for night I’m currently alternating between lactic acid and glycolic acid both from TO and then just the same cetaphil moisturiser after. I exfoliate most days but when I do have a break I use just the inkey list hylaronic acid and cetaphil moisturiser after cleansing. I’ve been using these products slowly incorporating each one since about January and they have helped a lot (the niacinamide and lactic acid mostly) but I still break out a lot and have a lot of redness (I’ve been using PC azelaic acid for a week now so hopefully this helps with it. @@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I use cerave lotion moisturizer and I usually put on sunscreen last but now I'm confused. Would cerave work first?
Just put the lotion on first, then the sunscreen. The issue is if you apply a really thick moisturizer with petrolatum first, then your skin won't be able to absorb the chemicals in chemical sunscreens, as the thick moisturizer would partially block it.
Someone also suggested to wait for like 10-15 min after applying moisturizer... is that correct?
No, you can apply it right away, or let's say give it 1-2 minutes (depending on the moisturizer you are using).
