I always prefer to see your video whenever it's about any skin care concern. I love the way you explain everything in detail. In morning, I use the ordinary ascorbic acid 8%+ Alpha Arbutin 2%, then natural moisturising factors & a light tinted cream on top of them both. Can I use sunscreen before that cream?

      Thank you!🤗
Yes, that's fine. Do you feel the need of using The Ordinary moisturizer + the tinted cream? Isn't the tinted cream or your SPF hydrating enough so that you could skip The Ordinary moisturizer?

Hi Melissa! Thanks so much for your video. Do you have any tips or product recommendations for applying makeup on top of sunscreen? I recently started using La Roche Posay invisible fluid spf 50 which i really like because it doesn't pill or sting my eyes. But I find no matter what sun screen i use, my concealer/foundation sets into fine lines much more, it also moves around and smudges/gathers more than it does when i do not use a sunscreen. I currently use rimmel london match perfection concealer and sometimes the matching foundation. I've tried setting it with powder or with setting spray and it doesn't seem to help, it just makes the fine lines more obvious.
Also I'm wondering if you know what spf is necessary on a daily basis while living in the UK? Most products are around spf 15 but i don't know if these will have high enough UVA protection. I love the La Roche Posay one that i mentioned but it's a bit expensive for everyday and I'm not sure if spf 50 is necessary! Xxx

      Hey :)
What is your skin type? Do you use a moisturiser underneath or not? And what about primer? Have you tried that?
Also, how long do you wait between your sunscreen a makeup application?
If you are mostly inside and not sunbathing, then SPF 15 or higher is enough. However, if you are outdoors a lot - it's best to wear SPF 30 or higher :)
Have a look at this article: www.skincancer.org/skin-cancer-prevention/sun-protection/sunscreen/
So, you could use, for example, a moisturiser that has SPF 15 or higher in it and then move on to your makeup application :)

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks so much for answering! My skin type is combination but usually tends to be more dry. I do use moisturiser underneath, recently i have been using The Ordinary moisturiser with HA.
I have tried a couple of different primers, but they don't seem to help much. I have tried the Revlon spf 15 primer which is good but i found it pilled with liquid concealer/foundation on top. I also tried the Rimmel London spf 25 primer but i don't feel it keeps the makeup in place/sitting well any better than sunscreen. My go to before i started wearing sunscreen was the Rimmel London fix and perfect primer which i loved, but if it wear spf underneath it it doesn't seem to make the makeup sit as well either/ maybe it doesn't have as good of a surface to cling to. Do you have any recommendations for a primer?
Between sunscreen and makeup, i usually wait a bit for it to soak in, maybe 5-10 minutes while i do something else like get dressed!
Ah okay great article thank you! Glad to know i don't need a very high spf every day. Do you have any recommendations for a drug store moisturiser with spf? I used the Simple spf 15 one for a little bit but it kept making me break out. 🧚‍♀️

@@3va_r0s3 I have a combination skin myself, and I love La Roche Posay moisturisers (Especially the La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Fluid, but that one doesn't have SPF :( ) However, some of them have SPF as well or Nivea moisturisers or even Neutrogena:)
Or you may want to look into the Nivea Sensitive Sunscreen :)
Have you have tried using a BB cream or Tinted Moisturiser instead of a foundation and just use a bit of concealer where you feel the need? This way, you have a light tinted layer on = less product can move around and settle into lines and wrinkles.
Or a tinted sunscreen instead? This way, you have like a two in one and just add a bit of concealer to it, and that's it! :)

hey, I know you're not asking me but I do have some advice, as I wear a full face of make up everyday (and a mask) and I have found that natural mineral zinc sunscreen is actually a very good primer and actually makes my makeup last longer. I specifically use Nivea Sensitive Mineral Kids Sunscreen 50 spf. It's very thick and makes you look a little pale. but my make up does not crease underneath. I actually think it has improved my skin as Zinc is a very good mineral for skin. However, if you already like your sunscreen and dont want to use mineral zinc because it makes you look a little too white, my best tip is to let the sunscreen dry for at least 10 min and use a little setting spray after wards to "set it". I know the struggle of wearing makeup plus the heat and now face masks, I really do swear by these things but I have very dry skin.

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

I don't think it is an issue; if you use an excellent formulation such as Paula's Choice, La Roche Posay, Cetaphil, Nivea, there shouldn't be a problem. You need to use a fair amount, as I showed in the video. The thing is, if you use poorly formulated products, it may look greasy or oily reasonably quickly. But apart from that, there isn't an issue. But most only contain SPF 25 or SPF 30, which is in almost every case enough. But if you live in Australia, where the sun is burning, I recommend SPF 50. What's most important is that you apply it evenly and maybe reapplying it when you are outside and when the sun is burning. If you seek shade most of the time wear normal protective clothing or have a regular office job, you won't need much.

Yeah, that is a bit controversial. But not many are using very heavy moisturizers anymore. If you have a traditional moisturizer such as Vaseline or the Blue Nivea, it may be best not to use it since they have a high amount of petrolatum that may influence it. But almost all (99%) "new" moisturizers are very light in texture even if they are meant for dry skin, and then they are applied before.

      Hey :)
How "much" acne do you have? The products you have chosen may work to reduce the look of blemishes (a few breakouts here and there). However if you have sever acne, I recommend seeing a dermatologist who can give you the right acne treatment like Benzoyl Peroxide or Adapalene or something similar to it.
You could use it like this:
      AM Routine:
      - Cleanser
      - Niacinamide
      - Alpha Arbutin
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      - SPF
      PM Routine:
      - Cleanser
      - Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
Use either Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid since both are AHA (chemical exfoliating acids). How often you can exfoliate your skin depends on your skin concerns and tolerance. Some people can use it daily whereas others prefer to use it only a few times per week.
Depending on your SPF you may not feel the need of using a moisturiser before applying your SPF and this is fine! As for your moisturiser in general, only use it if you feel the need and your skin is/becomes dry and then just use the moisturiser on those dry areas since you have a combination skin :)

Have a look at this article: www.paulaschoice.de/en/pregnancy-and-skin-care-which-products-are-safe#:~:text=Retinol.,them%20during%20pregnancy%20or%20breastfeeding.
It may be best to stop using Alpha Arbutin since it is a "derivative'" of hydroquinone, at least while you are breastfeeding.
But you may be able to look for a Vitamin C serum instead, which can lighten and brighten the skin :) If your Vitamin C contains Ascorbic Acid, keep it separate from Niacinamide. If it includes a Vitamin C derivative, you can use it with Niacinamide :)
