Sabaton is different! They tell stories, even if we dont want to remember them. And they dont care which side. They stick to the historians and what is known....And I think this is good. Today we tend to forget what a war and fascism really means....

Sabaton is a very lyric-forward band. They don't want the music to get in the way of the audience understanding the words and singing along with them. They don't want to disrespect the soldiers whose stories they tell.

They even have an extra channel called Sabaton history channel that tells more about the songs. This song was Sabaton asking the fans for what topic to write about and this was the most requested and was released as a single and not on an album. En livstid i krig live from Gothenburg and use captions to understand what it is about. There you hopefully will see more of the drums

The Boat captain is the son of 1 of the Bismarck survivors who passed away right before they filmed this.

Is that a fact? Do you have a source? I'm sorry, I'm sceptic towards claims that seem to be too good to be true, but I also love to be proven wrong and learn something new.

@@SwedishWarGoat. think it's mentioned at the end of their history video and on there page when the video 1st came out, they were hoping to have the Vet but he passed away before filming could start so his son stepped up to honor his father. so all the items on they wall of the room were real that you see in the opening.

They live so close to where I live, less than 10 minutes away. I actually met Hannes at our local supermarket last year while he was shoping for their midsummer dinner.

If you like the kind of concerts where the crowd sings along to all songs, and there is a lot of interaction between the band and the audience then a Sabaton concert is the place to be (to see this in action I would recomend "En livstid i krig - Live fron Gothenburg" remember subtitles as it is i swedish.
As to your continuing journey through european metal i would like to recomend
Powerwolf - Demons are a girls bestfriend (is most likely their most famous song) or 1589 ( their most recent song and it has a superb video)
Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016 (Blind Guardian is one of the original powermetal bands, and this has one of the craziest audience participation you will ever see)
If you wan't some info on their equipment watch Tank the Techs reaction to this song 🙂

  • @najroe
    @najroe 3 месяца назад +8

    good reaction,
they sing history, to bame few America related, creaming Eagles is about the airborne besieged in bastogne, To hell and back, about Audie Murphy (medal of honor and about every other medal us could award him) and his struggle AFTER the war with PTSD and alcohol/drug addiction (like so many other soldiers through the ages)
you wanted live performance? check out one of these three
En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (don't forget subtitles, it is in Swedish)
    Uprising from poland
    40:1 from poland

As you can see, the video has a lot of sound from the aeroplanes and explosions from the cannons and stuff like that. That would not be possible if the mix for the video was made with a thicker sound.
The video itself is made by a collaboration with the producers for the video game World of warships. Really well done.
I can recommend you to listen to Sabatons cover of Motörhead's 1916. Really good song!
Another recommendation is The Last stand.
They also do some animated videos that are amazing, like No bullets fly, Night witches and The Red baron.

You don't find Bismarck in any album, you can't buy it. Sabaton released it for free for their FANS in the 20th anniversary of the band in 2019 as a "Thank you" gift for the people who listen them through the Internet :-)

The name of the boat they played on is "Primo Victoria" - another song of theirs worth listening and reacting to! or "40:1" live!

Odd how you are not impressed "Rolling up in a Toyota" considering how common and cost effective they are made into "Tacticals".
I believe Sabaton is best described as Valor Metal.
I must recommend the 1960 movie Sink the Bismarck. I believe it is free here on YT. It was an inspiration for my enlistment in the US Navy in 1984.

Great first reaction to my favourite metal guys for over 20 years now. You are somewhat right, in this song, tthe story IS the star, the music is the (awesome) support.. if you are looking for more heavy leaning songs, I could recommend The White Death, Ghost Division or maybe Talvisota from the older albums, and definitely Valley of Death and Stormtroopers from the newest album. Can't wait to see more there, greetings from Germany! And Yes, I am a history AND metal nerd ^^ ps. the ohers are right, checking out the Sabaton History Channel for context is definitely worth it ;)

The wreck of Bismarck was discovered on 8 June 1989 by Robert Ballard, the oceanographer responsible for finding RMS Titanic. Bismarck was found to be resting on her keel at a dept of approximately 4,791 m (15,719 ft), about 650 km (400 mi) west of Brest. 48°10′N 16°12′W

I found Sabaton thru the symphonic metal band Nightwish because Sabaton's drummer Hannes Van Dahl is the husband of Nightwish singer Floor Jansen . I suggest you check out them with one of the most reacted to song on youtube with there song " Ghost Love Score" live at the Wacken Open Air Festival 2013 where they were the headliner in front of 82 K .

Those moving chevrons behind the video not good on the eyes while trying to watch the video , your sound on the video was low I had to turn mine up to hear it , I think it might be on your end .

The single version sounds fuller. There are a lot of sound effects in the video that obscure the music.

I still think this should've had 80ies style fade out ending to symbolize Bismarck sinking under the waves.

When comparing this to most of there other videos then yeah i agree the music instruments is abit weaker on this one. They for sure have other songs were the music goes super hard but thats true for most rock and metal bands. They always have a few performances that takes it down a notch even for those hardcore rock and power metal bands.

I don't think the music is innovative in much of Sabaton
it feels much more of a vehicle for the story being told
I have been much more a words kind of guy
(I started in the punk scene in 1980 and what folks were singing about
was as, if not more, important than the musicianship.
In other musical genres I listen to
like modern classical music from the modernists onward
the message is more important for me than the music.
I sing Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire in the shower
    ruclips.net/video/O5DNxRG2-ow/видео.html
I haven't seen Sabaton live but there are plenty of "live" videos
of performances and they have played to some big venues in Europe.
Over half a million Poles in a festival in Poland and the they sang about
the Polish resistance to the Nazis and unfurled a giant Polish flag
    over the crowd
    ruclips.net/video/wGZm_GTphJs/видео.htmlsi=0HgUuw6VtiUF_DsG&t=5188
Another song played to a "home" crowd is En Livstid I Krig
sung in Gothenburg which was founded in the war they are singing about:
    ruclips.net/video/WBs3G1PvyfM/видео.html
(It is in Swedish but there are subtitles, I believe)
To see what a band is like - I like to find the parodies of their style
and the best parody band in the "metal" scene is definitely the Italian band
    Nanowar of Steel
who wrote "the best Sabaton song not by Sabaton"
    Pasadena 1994
where the World Cup Final played in Pasadena in 1994
between Brazil and Italy and the tragedic events
but imagined as a war story - brilliant.
    ruclips.net/video/39CyUAnKUso/видео.html
    Enjoy!
