7:25 it means something along the lines of "be baptized and die in battle". the swedish version of the song is sung from the perspective of a single soldier being sent out into the horrors of the 30 years war, where the english version is more about the war as a whole. the live video of this sung performed in swedish is out of this world.

The 30 years war was so bloody and deadly that 2/3 of the Czech population died. Similar happened in many other countries back then.

So you have heard the Swedish version that comes from a more personal perspective of the common soldier while the English version has a more pulled back look at the overall effect of the war and the futility of it all. This was one of the songs that I just had on repeat for weeks. This song resonated with me so much, it's message is so damn valuable.
Having been in combat for the first 20 years of my life, the idea of a lifetime of war makes too much sense.
The music theory side is too great too, I like how, as you said, it is slower, simpler, with less arpeggios and progressions, but I also would describe it as carried. As a soldier, the sign carries forward constantly. The song didn't end, the ending wasn't some big final beat, it was just fade to black, for all we know, the song of endless war has not ended.

Fought primarily in Central Europe, an estimated 4.5 to 8 million soldiers and civilians died as a result of battle, famine, and disease, while some areas of what is now modern Germany experienced population declines of over 50%.”

It's insane when you stop to think about it. This was the 30 year war, called this because it was several wars in such a short order that logbooks have been found where writers didn't even know that they were fighting a new war. It lasted for a little over 30 years. The battles themselves were bloody and between 4 and 8 million soldiers died, but the true issue was that with 30 years of people not tending to their farms and livestock, and 30 years of doctors being at the front lines, famine and disease riddled europe, in some countries up to 70% of the population died due to that.
And I mean, I have turned 30 not long ago. It just boggles my mind to think that someone could have spend the same timeframe from my birth until now in war and only returned a few weeks ago. An entire generation could be born and have children of their ownw ithout even knowing that peace is a thing. That's just insane.

I don't think it will be possible to establish how many that died during that 30 years long war. Numbers vary enormously. How to count?
Died on the Battlefield? Died in camp by sicknesses, wounds, famine etc?
Count only soldiers? All the civilians living in those war-ridden countries killed by famine and diseases as well or by violence both on or outside battlefield in beleaguered towns or devastated countrysides? There are historians who talk about several millions and generations wiped out.

The 30 years war was also an escalation of the Dutch rebellion against Spanish rule, that had been going on for 50 years of bloody combat when both sides escalated by bringing in allies it became an all out war between protestant and catholic Europe that lasted a further 30 years. To the rest of Europe it's known as the 30 years war. To the Dutch and Spaniards it is known as the 80 years war. It was one of the bloodiest and deadliest wars in human history, with only the two world wars having a higher estimated casualty count. Percentage wise it is the deadliest war in human history

Late to the comments but I recommend Gott Mit Uns (English Version) if you haven't reacted to that yet. Its my personal favorite from this album.

Pls react to the swedish version of this song. Carolus rex as a album is about the swedish empire and the album has a swedish version and an english one. A Lifetime of war or En Livstid I Krig in swedish. Has two different lyrics. The english version talks about soldiers and the 30 years war in a whole. The swedish version is about the war but from a soliders point of view. React to live version in Gothenburg or a lyric video. A another song that I think you gonna find interesting is long live the king. This is my favorite Sabaton album it's so good. Can also be the fact that I'm swedish. If you have any questions about the album or something about Sweden. You can ask me and I will try to answer them. Have a good day. Wishes from Sweden.

You should check out Alestorm. It’s pirate metal. And that means exactly what you might think it means. And it’s glorious. Yarrr!!!
1741 (The Battle of Cartegena) might be a good place to start.
Or there amazing trilogy of the wooden leg. For a lyric video on part 1&2 find the ones with the rabbit. It’s a fan made lyric video that is accurate and well done.
Also. There’s a good channel that does lyric videos. DukeOfTextspeech. If I’m not mistaken.

En livstid i krig is the Swedish version and hits different, especially if you find the live from Gothenburg - also correct me if I’m wrong but the lyrics are different, the Swedish version seems more like a personal journey rather than a view of the war

American here, no Swedish, and agree that live Swedish version better, the lyrics are deeper also in Swedish version from Germany in 2020

I don't know if you have the chance of translating Döpas og Dö i strid (excuse me but my expertise is in Danish and Swedish write differently) "Baptised and died in Conflict"

Might be a controversial take, but while I think Carolus Rex is their best album, it’s not one I’d recommend necessarily to everyone. Mostly because the Swedish versions are overall better, but UNDERSTANDING them might be an issue to most people who don’t speak or understand the language and can’t read the translation while listening. Of course, one can just listen, but then you’d miss the context, which would make the emotions hit that much harder.
