You’re absolutely correct about the skill level of these musicians. They are extremely talented but only does what is required for the song. Especially the drummer and the lead guitar. They are absolute beasts. The guitarist, Tommy Johansson is very active on RUclips with his own channel where he does his own music and covers. He is also a very good singer.
That guitarist who did the solo, Tommy Johansson, is a whole 'nother rabbit hole to go down. He is not only the guitarist for this band, but also leads his own amazing band Majestica as lead singer as well as does a bunch of covers and solo's on his RUclips channel. And let me just say he has an AMAZING voice and vocal range. That man has a ton of talent in him.

Yes! Sabaton live shows are great! Here's few pointers: Everything from Woodstock Poland 2012 is worth it, there were 600 000-750 000 people there. The official live videos from "the Great Tour" 2020 are shot in 1 shot on the stage, some people love it some don't. The shows are epic either way. This song was one of the things they had for their 20th anniversary in 2019. The story of the Bismarck was the most fan requested military history topic they hadn't done yet. They also in 2019 headlined Wacken on 2 stages at the same time, with the current lineup (that is in this video) on one stage and the past members on the other (with Joakim and Pär switching stages between songs) and they also had a 20 voice male choir, a tank drumriser and a lot of pyros. The singer Joakim Broden is also their main songwriter (like 95-100% 1999-2012 and 70-95% 2012-now, depending on the song), keyboardplayer and does all the lyrics together with Pär Sundström (bass & the band manager). Current Sabaton: Joakim Broden SINGER Founding member 1999 Pär Sundström BASS Founding member 1999 Chris Rörland GUITAR joined 2012 Hannes Van Dahl DRUMS joined 2013 Tommy Johansson GUITAR joined 2016 (For all the "previous members" the reason to leave has been that they no longer wanted to tour 250 days a year etc. There is no bad blood. Sabaton is a full time job for their members and not all musicians like doing that for years.)
Sabaton is definately worth exploring. They make music about real events in history - and very well i might add! They also have own historychannel where all details are explained. Have to give an advice for future: Sabaton and Nightwish videos must always be watched till wery last second (like you did here). Ps. Floor Jansen (NW) is married to Sabatons drummer Hannes
Sabaton even have a youtube channel called Sabaton History where the famous historian Indy Neidell explains the history of the events and people that Sabaton's songs are about. I highly recommend it. The one for this song "Bismarck" would be a great start. Learning history has never been more fun.
Bismarck was a WW II German battleship, one of the largest ever built in Europe. The ship was hunted down and sunk in the Atlantic by the allies, not long after they sunk the British battlecruiser 'Hood'. This video was made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game. The captain of the boat the band went out on is the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck. And the name painted on the boat, Primo Victoria, is the name of the first Sabaton album. The title track of that record is about D-Day at Normandy. The band is named after a sabaton, the foot piece in a medieval suit of armor. Their live videos are great, but you should know that some are shot from cameras ON the stage and behind the band, looking out to the crowd. Sabaton is touring in the USA Sep/Oct this year, with EPICA opening.
Scuttled by her crew The 2002 expedition to the wreck showed that the anti-torpedo protection belt was almost intact If you are English, I understand that you will never accept it :p :D
@@-Griffin- Yes, we know it was scuttled. Just going for the basics and worded it wrong. Us Americans are usually in a hurry and don't always take the time to check phrasing. 😁 Most definitely NOT English. My ancestors come from Ireland.
The HMS Hood was also basically the flag ship of the British navy. A sad bit of info is that it sank in with 3 minutes and of its 1,421 crew, only 3 men survived.
Night Witches, Fields of Verdun, Resist and Bite, Devil Dogs, Defence of Moscow, To Hell and Back, Into the Fire, 82nd all the Way, The Red Baron. As mentioned below, the Guitarist is Tommy Johansson, you should check-out his band Majestica and their song "Above the Sky".
The name of the boat they were on (FREEZING themselves, btw) was "Primo Victoria" - which is the name of another Sabaton song. Notice the pocket-watch/compass at the start and end? The skipper of Primo was a relative of a survivor of the Bismarck. World War 2 - before the US got involved - German Bismarck sank the pride of the Royal Navy HMS Hood..... so the RN fleet hunted him down and used torpedo bombers and heavy ships to shell him to ruin (although many think the Germans scuttled their own ship to prevent capture).... but still the other ship, Prinz Eugen, got away!...... as USS Prinz Eugen, after the war, it took months of neglect, TWO NUKES and more months of neglect to sink the Prinz!!!!!
Yes, they are great in concert. Bismarck in concert in St. Louis just pushed me back in my seat when they started. If you're a student of history, the songs are even better. For a live type show, look for The Last Stand.
For a another depiction of the Battle of the Atlantic, I must recommend the 1960 movie 'Sink the Bismarck'. It is free here on YT. It was one of my inspirations to enlist in the US Navy. The USS Iowa class battleships and all US Navy ships since have been built with lessons learned from the Bismarck and his brother ship Tirpitz. BTW Germany and Russia refer to their ships in the masculine. To see Sabaton at their best, IMHO, I recommend Christmas Truce.

The last living survivor of the Bismarck died the year before the song was released and the old man holding the watch at the end of the video is supposed to be him and is played by his son

You would be surprised how broad the range of Sabaton is. They cover a vast spectrum of historical topics and always set the right mood through the music. It's not like other bands which fell into the trap of finding a comfort zone and making every single song basically same. In Sabaton's case the melody is fitting and mostly unique to every song. You can instantly tell it's THEM but you'll never know which direction the song is gonna go. That is great, at least in my opinion. Try to listen to these songs in particular to really be able to appreciate how different they are from one another and what a broad of a spectrum of history Sabaton covers: 1) Sparta (480 BC; Battle of Thermopylae - "300") 2) Swedish pagans (6th - 10th century; Viking era) 3) Winged Hussars (1683; Battle of Vienna, massive cavalry attack led by Poles) 4) Long Live the King (1718; death of the Swedish king Charles XII) 5) Christmas Truce (1914; the first year of WW1) 6) Stormtroopers (1916-18; the end stages of WW1) 7) The Last Battle (1945; the strangest battle of WW2) 8) Hill 3234 (1988; Soviet-Afghan war, defence against Mujahideen) 9) Panzer Battalion (2003; Iraq invasion) 10) Steel Commanders (WW1 - present day; evolution of tanks)

Bismarck is a great way of starting your Sabaton journey I must say, you get that epic feel to it as they "always" have. And the music video is kind of decent also. :P But I'm not overly convinced that they should be classified as power metal, the first thing I think of when it comes to power metal is that they always overdo it. And as you said, Sabton didn't do it here, and they never do it. They always make sure the intrumentals fits the mood of the song. I say they play classic old school heavy metal. To do this properly I think a good starter pack of Sabaton is the way to go. :) So I will suggest 2 more songs/performances/videos to showcase their things. After that, you are good to go in any direction you want. They are not necessarily their best songs, but with these 3 songs (Bismarck included) you will get the whole package. And obviously they are great anyway. :) 1. No bullets fly, the animated story video. ruclips.net/video/dslO-3GgenY/видео.html Since pretty much all their songs have a historic background, the animated story videos are great to get the context, and No bullets fly is something extra for sure. It's about an act of the greatest humanity in pretty much the worst possible time for humanity. 2. En livstid i krig, Live from the Great tour in Gothenburg. ruclips.net/video/WBs3G1PvyfM/видео.html It's in Swedish so turn on the captions and be prepared to be amazed. There will be smiles from ear to ear mixed with tears and you get to experience what might be the greatest live performance ever. It's the story about a Swedish soldier going into war, the 30 years war that ravaged Europe during the 17:th century. And if you want to delve deeper into their songs, their other channel, Sabaton history, ruclips.net/channel/UCaG4CBbZih6nLzD08bTBGfw ,where they go into detail about the story behind each of their songs, is a great source of some light history combined with heavy metal. :) Every song they have made have a corresponding video of about 15 minutes where a historian and great storyteller speaks about the history and at the end, he and the band talks a bit about the song itself. It's really great entertainment. As I said, that is a small package to get you hooked, they have tons of great songs besides those. From the new album they just released I really like "Christmas truce", amazing song, amazing story and an even better music video.. Also "Unkillable soldier", really fun song with a fun video telling the story of a really weird guy. :)
If you're looking for something of theirs that might be better for a daily playlist, it really depends on what you're into. Fast & Energetic? "The Red Baron" , "Ghost Division" or "White Death" Epic & Inspiring? "40 to 1" , "The Last Stand" or "Winged Hussars" They have a very wide range of sounds, from bangers to ballades, while still sounding like Sabaton. I hope you get to experience and enjoy all of it.
If you want to listen to more guitars , react to Tommy Johansson The leadguitarist in Sabaton and his cower, Hundred thousand He have also a great voice and the range is cracy He have his own youtubechannel with a lot of amacing cowers and also his own stuff He is an multiinstrumentalist and play all the instrument himself

This is just my weird take on Sabaton and I'll probably catch hell for it. But I don't expect a song from Sabaton. I expect an awesome story that just happens to be delivered via a musical medium.
If you want something a bit more full on, fast and musically impressive then they just released an animated video for a song of latest album called Stortroopers. I think you will hear all you require there 👍
I'm always curious why people recommend Bismarck as the introduction to Sabaton? It's one of their least melodic songs and imo not a good representative. I'd recommend: Seven Pillars Of Wisdom: ruclips.net/video/eaW76aDKObk/видео.html 82nd All The Way: ruclips.net/video/0LS0Z8fgiII/видео.html The Last Stand: ruclips.net/video/i9BupglHdtM/видео.html The Valley Of Death: ruclips.net/video/eAy2eVlvaZQ/видео.html Devil Dogs: ruclips.net/video/EVCtCWXB2W4/видео.html Christmas Truce: ruclips.net/video/HPdHkHslFIU/видео.html En Livstid I Krig (Swedish version of A lIfe Time Of War, live in Gothenburg. Enable subtitles): ruclips.net/video/WBs3G1PvyfM/видео.html

so Sabaton has their very own "Sabaton History Channel" on youtube were they give you the history of the song topic then alittle about why they did the song. they just put a NEW animited video for their song "The Red Baron" which would be worth watching. "Soldier of Heaven" (WW1) & "Chrsitmas Truce" (WW1) would be good also to do "The Last Stand" (Swiss Guard & 1527 sacking of Rome) just to help get you started
If you want too see Sabaton in their “Iron Maiden” wheelhouse, check out the song “Killing Ground”. You could probably ask every member of Sabaton if they grew up on Iron Maiden and they would all say yes! They are HEAVILY influenced by TNWOBHM.
I’m sure someone has commented this at some point, but the drummer Hannes is married to Floor from Nightwish. Not sure how it’s possible for a couple to be that good looking AND talented, but there they are.
From what I gathered from your comments you have never heard of the Bismarck and its role in WWII. If you're interested to learn more about their songs.... Sabaton has its own, pehenomenal!!, YT History Channel. It gives a lot of background information of the songs they made. Very interesting and worth checking out! A lot of fans wished they had this way of learning about wars and battles in their schooltime.
I’ve always been terrible at history. But having an amazing band like this leading the charge it might just inspire me a bit more thanks for checking it out.
@@massivemetalreactions The first 4 years at middle school in the 1960's I had a teacher who teached to the letter in the books we had. I couldn't grasp what he was talking about. But then I got another teacher and she was able to open the world of history for me. And through the History Channel of Sabaton I learned a lot more! They work together with historian Indy Neidell and they dive deep into the subjects of their songs. Sometimes they visit former battle fields or meet veterans. Very interesting. And fans can even send in ideas for a song! How cool is that! Greetings!
Just to drop recommendations try "Ghost Division" and "No Bullets Fly" (they have an animated story video on no bullets fly done in collaboration with Yarnhub)
I can`t imagine that you have never listened to Sabaton before...that is so sad. For a while you listened the first time to Nightwish.....where do you live...and i don't mean it badly...enjoy your journey with these two amazing bands.....☺😘
Are you going to listen to a good song by SABATON - Uprising (OFFICIAL LIVE), they played it in Woodstock in Poland with an audience of one million. ruclips.net/video/BmerZbDPXns/видео.html Joakim as the singer is called, said in an interview. That in their latest album (which Bismark is in), they have calmed down a bit. Because he meant that in the heavy, hard way of the previous albums, you couldn't bear to listen to the whole record.

Only thing they got wrong consistently in this video: In german(y) all ships are female. Not male. So when they talk about Bismarck they should use she instead of he.

After that, you are good to go in any direction you want. They are not necessarily their best songs, but with these 3 songs (Bismarck included) you will get the whole package. And obviously they are great anyway. :)
Much to learn still for sure. Thanks so much!
If you're looking for something of theirs that might be better for a daily playlist, it really depends on what you're into.
Fast & Energetic? "The Red Baron" , "Ghost Division" or "White Death"
Epic & Inspiring? "40 to 1" , "The Last Stand" or "Winged Hussars"
They have a very wide range of sounds, from bangers to ballades, while still sounding like Sabaton. I hope you get to experience and enjoy all of it.
I'll keep adding the playlist. On the list.
"So is this the band? I don't know Sabaton. I don't know anything about them."

This is just my weird take on Sabaton and I'll probably catch hell for it. But I don't expect a song from Sabaton. I expect an awesome story that just happens to be delivered via a musical medium.
Fantastic Comment! Thanks for that.
I don't know if you noticed but the sailor from the bismark who is saved by the enemy at the end of the song is the lord of the band's fishing boat
So much to learn thanks for sharing
I swear its the same few thousand people who show up to these sabaton reactions lol
Seems that way. Love it!
If you want something a bit more full on, fast and musically impressive then they just released an animated video for a song of latest album called Stortroopers. I think you will hear all you require there 👍
Awesome. Thanks for checking it out
I'm always curious why people recommend Bismarck as the introduction to Sabaton?
It's one of their least melodic songs and imo not a good representative.
I'd recommend:

so Sabaton has their very own "Sabaton History Channel" on youtube were they give you the history of the song topic then alittle about why they did the song. they just put a NEW animited video for their song "The Red Baron" which would be worth watching. "Soldier of Heaven" (WW1) & "Chrsitmas Truce" (WW1) would be good also to do "The Last Stand" (Swiss Guard & 1527 sacking of Rome) just to help get you started
Much appreciated. Thanks
They have a history Channel sabaton history check it out
Greetings. Thank you!
If you want too see Sabaton in their “Iron Maiden” wheelhouse, check out the song “Killing Ground”. You could probably ask every member of Sabaton if they grew up on Iron Maiden and they would all say yes! They are HEAVILY influenced by TNWOBHM.
Thanks for checking it out
@@massivemetalreactions here is a link to the video ruclips.net/video/dlscztwY_r4/видео.html
I’m sure someone has commented this at some point, but the drummer Hannes is married to Floor from Nightwish. Not sure how it’s possible for a couple to be that good looking AND talented, but there they are.
One of our neighbors who died years ago was a survivor of the Bismarck he was pretty miserable the rest of his days. Poor soul.😢
Greetings!
There is plenty of Sabaton songs to react too
I'll keep adding the playlist. On the list.
The lyrics for all songs are equally important, so turn them on.
Greetings. Thank you!

Are you going to listen to a good song by SABATON - Uprising (OFFICIAL LIVE), they played it in Woodstock in Poland with an audience of one million. ruclips.net/video/BmerZbDPXns/видео.html
Joakim as the singer is called, said in an interview. That in their latest album (which Bismark is in), they have calmed down a bit. Because he meant that in the heavy, hard way of the previous albums, you couldn't bear to listen to the whole record.
Check out the Sabaton playlist. It's there already or might be coming soon. Thanks so much for watching! ruclips.net/p/PLE4WpZlzcCZhhfLyEn078KVZ55qR_M68Q
Sabaton is 👌
Sabaton themselves have declared themselves as not powermetal.
Much appreciated. Thanks
you know sabaton has opened for iron maiden before
I did not but Im sure that was epic
live is 100 times more powerful
Agreed. Thanks a bunch!
Only thing they got wrong consistently in this video:
In german(y) all ships are female. Not male.
So when they talk about Bismarck they should use
she instead of he.
Much appreciated. Thanks
These guys tell some of the most unheard of stories of war across the board evil and good. Check them out more you won’t regret it.
Thanks for checking it out
