      To this day, I’ve never known how to feel about that. I feel like it diminishes Rocky’s win, and makes him come off as lucky twice. The first time, Apollo didn’t take him seriously and didn’t feel like he beat him (even though he did.) and the second time, Rocky stood up first.

    • @commsense1979
      @commsense1979 11 месяцев назад +11

      @@Kayoss13212 well now, Creed was absolutely the better fighter. He had Rocky beat in their second fight but was determined to knock him out, which is why he lost. The first fight he took lightly and Rocky's toughness proved almost more than he could handle.
      I imagine their third fight was more competitive with Rocky utilizing the skills Creed taught him, but without a knockout Rocky isn't beating Creed.

    After a knockdown, if a fighter gets up, the referee will give him what's called a standing 8 count. It's so the fighter and regain his faculties and the referee can see if he's able to continue. When Ricky Conlan was knocked down, it was at the end of the fight and he got up as the bell sounded. It's called being saved by the bell.

    • @benrast1755
      @benrast1755 11 месяцев назад +7

      Yep. Good explanation. My dumbed down explanation is that the ref has to be satisfied the boxer isn't seeing cartoon birds flying around his head. :-)

      @p-mac8413 11 месяцев назад +4

      You're mostly correct. But not about Ricky at the end. Like Kellerman pointed out when Donnie knocked him down, in the 12th round you can't be saved by the bell.

    • @gregquinn7817
      @gregquinn7817 11 месяцев назад +1

      Technically not being saved by the bell is you are knocked down, and the ref starts counting...if you are knocked down at 2:54 seconds the ref will keep counting as the round ends.
      If it happens at the end of the fight they would keep fighting. Different states and sanctioning bodies have different rules.

    I tell this story all the time. I saw this movie when it first came out. I was going through depression and on top of that. My date cancelled on me on the way to the movies. Literally nothing was going well for me that year. But after i took her home. I went to go see it which ima be honest. I'm glad i saw it alone. When i saw that movie. It brought out a fight in me. That i havent had since when my aunt and cousin was alive. I know its just a movie. But that one line when he says something along the lines of "I don't wanna be a mistake..." Then that classic rocky movie kicks in. That literally brought something out of me i never expected. Im doing way better years later. But this movie showed me even when u are a unknown. You still matter, and that goes for anybody who is going through a similar situation. Keep fighting Because god has a plan for you. 👍🙏

    Fun Fact: The punch at 31:12 was a real one.
    Sylvester Stallone said to Michael B. Jordan that it was always tradition in every Rocky movie to take a real punch and that was Jordan's.
    Tony Bellew who plays Conlan is an actual pro boxer so he was advised to "only give it 40% of a punch".
    Jordan said he felt like he got hit by a truck for days even with only 40%. He hit the ground so realistically everyone panicked and messed up the take so he had to do it again 😭

    I am not a boxing expert, but my older brother boxed, a few rules clarifications. The 3 knock down rule... if this rule is in effect 3 knockdowns equal a TKO (technical knockout). A knockdown usually triggers a standing 8 count (the reason the ref kept counting after Adonis was on his feet). the only thing that stops it is the bell (the reason the ref stopped the count when Pretty Boy went down in the last round). The primary reason for the standing 8 count is to give the ref more time to ascertain if the boxer can continue, it is a safety measure to try to limit injury and avoid catastrophic results like Apollo's last fight. Before the standing 8 count, if a boxer got back up to his feet, the ref would simply ask if he was able to continue, and if he replied yes the fight was back on.

      That was more the producer that "excluded" him. And Stallone himself said that he didn't wanna do this movie anyway because of said producer, and the fact that the 3rd movie went in a direction that was contrary to his own sensibilities. Hardly "excluding" him.

      Yep, additionally Michael b Jordan has continued to speak highly of Stallone every chance he gets, is on record saying regardless of what he would have to change about the script, the minute he wants to come back he'd make a place for him in the movie and made sure that Stallone was still credited as a producer on 3.
      He's always shown him nothing but love and respect.
      Stallone's spoken highly of him since then too. By all accounts their relationship is still solid.

    when the ref keeps counting it is likely a Mandatory eight count. "is a rule in boxing and kickboxing requiring the referee to give any fighter a count of eight seconds once they have been knocked down by their opponent, and before the fight is allowed to resume. Even if the fighter gets up before the count reaches eight, the referee is required to count to eight before checking if the fighter is able to continue unless they make a judgement call that the fighter cannot continue."
    There is another rule called a standing 8 count that is used even if the fighter isn't knocked down, if the ref thinks they might be in trouble.
    Both can lead to a TKO (technical knock out) if the ref feels it is unsafe for the fighter to continue.

    In the first pro fight, yes the opponent was standing before the 10 count, but if the referee sees that you're still too hurt and not responding to his commands, he will stop the fight.
    Also, if a fighter gets up fast from a knockdown, the referee keeps counting to 8, and looks at the fighter to see if he can continue, he didn't keep counting on Conlan cause he got up after the 8 and the fight was over.

    For Creed, Silverster didn't have the heart for either kill Rock's son too or keep while his is no more so he just says he is away.
    It's only in the second Creed he would have made peace with Sage's death that he'll close that chapter.

    3 count - if you get knocked down 3 times in one round the fight is stop. this would be referred to as a TKO (technical knockout). This is when the ref or ring doctor stops the fight. so if the doctor stopped the main fight due to the damaged eye this would be a TKO win to Conlin.
    The no standing 8 - is an older rule where a boxer knocked down gets up at 1 or 2 the referee would still count to 8.
    Though now the ref can still count even if the fighter is up just like Leo in the first fight, though he was up he was not standing still this is why he continued.

    When a boxer gets knocked down, the referee keeps counting until he sees the boxer fit to carry on. Even if he gets up, the ref can still declare him unfit to carry on, based on things like being unable to focus his eyes, weak hands, wobbly stance. Basically, if the ref thinks, the boxer is unable to defend himself properly.

    three knockdown rule: if you fall 3 times in a round, it's a TKO, you lose. What they're saying is more like MMA rules, where the ref will stop the fight if he think one fighter is losing and in danger of damage

    Three knockdown rule if in effect means getting knocked down three times in the same round is a knockout. If it's not in effect a fighter can get knocked down an unlimited number of times and not be ruled out by knockout.

    * In the old days if you're knocked down 3 times in the same round, you automatically lose the fight. Most of the time that rule is no longer enforced, especially in championship fights, but the referee has to convey this officially for the record in the pre-fight meeting in the locker room. If it were enforced, Rocky would have lost a bunch of the fights.
    * They were booing Adonis because they were fighting in the UK, in Conlan's home.
    * Adonis was counted as knocked down because he dropped to a knee from the punch. 1 knee or 1 glove touching the floor from a hit counts as a knockdown.
    * The ref keeps counting Adonis to give him the full time allowed to recover and if the ref deems him ok to continue, then the fight continues. When Conlan got up, the final bell had already rung, so there was no more fight to continue.

    Loving this channel so far.
    If you haven't seen it yet, I would love to see your reaction to Hook (1991). It was one of my favorite movies as a child and still is one of my "soul detector" movies. 😅 meaning if you hate the movie, you have no soul.
    But so far, I feel like you have a beautiful soul. 👍

    Seeing your cat made me cry. Mine died in my arms looking into my eyes at 3:00 this afternoon. He was diabetic and his liver gave out. Spend as much time with your pets people. They will repay it 1,000 fold and you will be left with so many memories when they cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge
