    When Robert went to his lady friend "for permission", he never actually asked for it, he just wanted to explain his reasoning, and hopefully get her blessing, which she gave, followed by, "Don't forget to say goodbye."
    I love how they did that process.

      Although Man on Fire was 4 years before the Taken franchise. In fact while Denzel was performing proctology exams under the freeway, Neeson was playing a sexologist in a biopic.
      But I'll give it Neeson with Darkman.

  • @jamesdemarco7161

    The keys to the movie are the three books Robert reads. When he is sitting with the woman on the porch, to ask permission, he said he did it because he could. She told him it's who he is, and that he should be that person... "the old man has to be the old man, the fish has to be the fish. You have to be who you are in this world". What he is, is "a knight in shining armor, in a world where they no longer exist". At the end of the movie he is anonymously offering to help people in need, and he is reading The Invisible Man.
    Also, two little side notes;
    In the first killing sequence, he opens and closes the door multiple times to mask the sound of him locking the door, it maintains his element of surprise.
    When the music comes on the PA system at the Homemart, Robert is letting the workers know he is here. At the beginning of the movie, he said he used to be a Pip... the song playing on the PA was by Gladys Knight and the Pips.

    • @AndyMatts44
      @AndyMatts44 Год назад +1

      On your first side note - he open and closes the door multiple times because he's obsessive-compulsive/OCD. That's why he arranges his napkins, moves his silverware to the side, turn the spoon upside down in the diner - it's part of his ritual. It's why he was re-arranging the skulls on the desk. Plus you could still clearly hear when he locked the door, and that made absolutely no difference on them trying to kill him or not.

    • @jamesdemarco7161
      @jamesdemarco7161 Год назад

      @@AndyMatts44 Actually not. He didn't open and close the door repeatedly at the diner, at work, his home, or at Ralph's mom's restaurant. If he were OCD like that, he would have done it at all of those places. He is very meticulous, but that does not mean OCD. If he would have just walked to the door and locked it, everyone in the room would have been aware that he was going to do something. The way he did it, they would have had to pay close attention from the start, and realize there was one extra click.

I am quite impressed with the amount of languages you seem to understand, being from The Netherlands myself I can only manage Dutch and English. When you mentioned that they do not have subtitles for some of the foreign languages that are spoken in the movie I totally agree that it is a shame that they are missing and I have seen that happen more and more often over the years. The thing that is weird to me is that I have DVD's of older movies that have subtitles for different languages on them and are complete, but when I have tried to watch the same movies on a streaming service they are not included.

    I think no subtitles for the Spanish because we've already seen he knows Russian, so that was just to demonstrate his knowledge of another language, comfortably. It was clearly an introduction and friendly greeting, so I don't think the specific words were that important.
    And how perfect was them NOT showing what he did to the robber with the sledgehammer? As you said, your mind already went there, they didn't need to.

    He was CIA Ground Branch. Basically like special forces but instead of working for any specific branch of the military they work for the CIA. That woman he visited was basically his boss in the CIA. Movies would usually throw you some clues to this, I forgot what this movie said, but things like saying simply "The Agency" usually refers to the CIA. Or if someone simply refers to "Langley" that is where the headquarters of the CIA is.

    Robert is one highly trained Marines sergeant special forces team leader operative that got out of the CIA covert assassination squad with a faked death. Nobody ever ever want's to cross Robert and expect to live. He lives his life to precision timing, and undertakes his killings to precision timing too. But he is very moral, with high expectations of his victims, giving them all an opportunity to take the right path rather than die. That sense of giving a chance is what I like about Robert. In many cases, the failings of individuals is not final. It can be put to rights with the right persuasion.

      I'm not surprised, and while you are quite close you are not really correct.
      I am a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Equalizer was the first blueray i bought, and yet i did not notice that the bad guy in this movie played Celeborn in the Lord of the Rings movies.
      He has no appearance in the Hobbit trilogy to my knowledge (and according to imdb) and his appearances in the first and last LOTR movies are rather short.
      So further reasons i am not surprised to not have noticed it and her not noticing it.
      Celeborn is not Legolas father and is not "the main Elf" in either of the movies.
      The elven king in the Hobbit trilogy (Thranduil, played be Lee Pace) is Legolas father.
      Still impressive that you noticed bad guy here being in the LOTR film world.

    This was originally a TV show with an Englishman as the lead. I think it was back in the 90s.

    Seeing how you thought Denzel was on fire, then you should watch Man on Fire

    I was an extra in the Russian Restaurant scene. This is a movie based upon a TV series from the early 80’s called The Equalizer. Nice reaction and review

    I cant recall if you watched The Mandalorian or not, so i wont go into detail. The Giy with the mustache in the warehouse played 2 characters in the Mandalorian. One, the first scene in the first episode and another main-ish character thru out.

    Robert McCall is a man of focus. Commitment. Sheer will. Perhaps you've heard of his son, John Wick. Lol!
