Though originally thought to be the name of a malicious character within the game Webkinz, the term 'Webkinz Killer' is actually more of an umbrella term for a number of bizarre rumours that spread about the game in the mid to late 2000's. From vengeful ex-employees, to viruses that could brick your PC, to rival game websites hacking and deleting accounts to, of course, the legend of Dr. Quack, an evil NPC hellbent on maiming pets. Today let's take a look back at the 'Webkinz Killer' rumour!

"Thank you so much to disney for sponsoring this video, now lets talk about the webkins killer urban legend" is such an unbelievably wild sentence
I literally laughed a little 💀
And it was said by a woman in corpse paint, wearing club Penguin earrings,a spiked collar, and a checkered shirt.

THAT SENTENCE IS LIKE THE FUNNIEST SHIT EVER
Honestly, I think that the more children are bathed in overly-sanitized baby content, the more drawn they become to this kind of spooky content
Children always seek out this kind of content because it's exciting to see something you're not supposed to and it's fun to be scared and not to be in real danger
Honestly agree 100%. I sought out spooky stuff as a kid, despite enjoying the normal stuff.
I wasn't allowed to read the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" books, soooo I just borrowed them from the school library (SHOCKED that they were actually there) and hid them and read them by flashlight at night.
Yeah.
@Anya Marie Mcdonell Harvey you didn't read the original posters comment correctly
this is why most indie horror game fanbases seem to be mostly kids.

I remember I had two webkinz. A Tiger and a pug. One day I logged on and noticed I had a slice of cake in my inventory so I gave it to my tiger. It was my pug’s birthday. That cake was for my pug. I felt so bad I cried and deleted my account. I told my therapist about this horrible experience and all he did was up my meds.
one time i went into the trading room with a new pet i had just adopted and was like "i'm new!" and someone obviously mistook that for me saying i was an entirely new player so they traded me a bunch of rare items for free. i wanted them so i just went along with it and then five minutes later i went back into the trading room sobbing like "I LIED IM NOT NEW!!!" but they were gone lol
i’m sorry the “all he did was up my meds” made me laugh so hard

what makes this type of rumors funnier as an adult looking back at them, is now knowing how websites work. as a kid you really think it could be some sort of glitch in the game, maybe an evil spirit possessing your favourite website, but as an adult you know "the eyes of a character glowing red at midnight, pulling out a chainsaw and killing your characters" needs a lot of coding, it can't "just happen" lol
What’s even better is devs are doing that exact thing nowadays. Animal crossing has UFO abduction on tv at midnight or something lol.

I somehow never encountered the Webkinz killer rumors as a kid despite having an abundance of Webkinz. Dr.quack was my favorite character too so I was always confused when other people seemed scared of him.

Same, but I never really talked to anyone about Webkinz so maybe that's why. I loved talking my pets to the Dr 🥺

Only weirdness I encountered in webkinz was this shamrock dog asking for feet pics by email and I didn’t know how to report em at the time
Me too! I had like well over 60 webkinz and played on the site from age 4-13/14 (21 now) and literally never knew about the creepy stories till I was in my late teens. The only "creepy" thing I remember was the pirate ship with the ghost on the vacation island lmao

I’m not sure if you ever saw it, but there used to be a website called “Dudkinz”, which hosted one person’s fan-made “rejected” Webkinz. They were all horror-themed, and the story was that each one was supposed to have been a Webkinz that had been rejected for being too “scary” or “gross”, etc. For some reason myself and a friend were obsessed with it in elementary school (we were also obsessed w/ Webkinz as a whole), and went on the site all the time to read the toy’s biographies and lore and such. The site itself is gone now, but there are still some screenshots and reuploads floating around the internet. Good times!
I thought I was the only person that remembered this!! :’D I always looked forward to a new Dudkinz being added
I was just thinking about this and couldn't remember the name!! Thank you sm

@@shadowjack48209 pull out your own neopet with a knife

Me and my best friend in elementary school both made up that we were fairies, and once we were old enough to know that we ourselves weren’t actually a fairy, we didn’t tell the other in case the other actually WAS a fairy because we didn’t want to be caught lying 😂 so yes kids will genuinely go very deep into the stories they tell lmao
Omg same except my friend and I were unicorns
This was before MLP, I swear. Weirdly enough, I never got into that because I was in my vampire phase by 2010
Definetely sounds like fae Activity *clutches iron horsehoe*
tbh i still play webkinz and whenever you visit ms birdy she always says things like “play safe my darlings” and stuff about being nice to eachother and idk why but it’s genuinely so sweet to me, their post about how your webkinz will never be harmed in webkinz world gives me the same feeling
As a frequent Webkinz player, AND a fan of Dr. Quack, I can confirm that he is in fact the Webkinz killer and that’s why we all love him so much. I have literally NEVER denied him being the Webkinz killer despite him being my favorite character in all of Webkinz. It’s a shame they closed down the clinic in-game, but it does give players another reason to keep believing in the legend…
“I am sooo telling the truth on this” ah yes, the hallmark of a verifiable and true story; I trust it
if you give me 400 dollars you'll be happy i am sooo telling the truth on this.
I remember hearing about this in elementary school. Some kid was like, “My Webkin was bleeding so much,” and this other kid countered with, “Well, blood was coming out of my computer!” I was just sitting there terrified of being hunted by a virtual duck.
PFFFFFFT BLOOD CAME OUT OF MY COMPUTER oh these stories are so silly! 😂
i was a TA for the special education teacher in high school (and am now just good friends with her) and she was webkinz famous back in the day. i believe the most popular thing she did was a recreation of the entire nutcracker ballet within webkinz which spanned well over 20 minutes and received the extremely rare director’s chair item from the devs for the accomplishment. pretty sick
something that added to the creepy factor of webkinz for me was navigating your house, if i remember right with each new webkinz you got a new room in your house, and if you had a bunch of them making your way through this sprawling labyrinthine structure (which if you were anything like me had several empty or almost empty rooms) felt like searching a haunted or abandoned place where something could pop up and scare you at any moment
oh YES that's how mine was too
oh yeah i remember that! that actually makes for a really fun horror setting
in all my webkinz playing years i never heard this tale, but i remember being absolutely terrified by a rumor that if you didn't buy a new webkinz for over a year your account would expire and your pets would die
I heard a rumor similar to this. If you neglected your pet and let them be very unhappy for a year, Dr.Quack would kill them. Then you wouldn't be able to log on due to animal abuse.
oh my god, i heard the exact same thing lmaoo i begged my mom while sobbing to get me a new webkinz or else my frog would die
Same!!!
That rumor scared me so much! I vividly remember it being my turn for student of the week and talking about my favorite webkinz toy when a classmate told me that. We didn’t have high speed internet at my house at the time so I rarely had the chance to log on without going to my uncle’s house. I thought that I had killed her and I couldn’t even check on it 😭
They did have a thing for a little while that if you hadn't bought a new one in a while your account was considered like a free account or something and you could only play the game for a half hour at time. I think they got rid of that but I'm not sure. That might be where that started because I was definitely afraid of that too. I remember saving codes to space out when I adopted new pets lol
I remember being terrified of the “deadly webkinz ghost” that would kill your webkinz if u stayed at the ruined ship too long 😂
I FORGOT ABOUT THAT!!!
Your makeup is absolutely perfect for this episode, I love it as always!
As for the Webkinz Killer, god I hate how much kids lie... I remember being a kid, I remember lying for clout, and it just makes me want to shake me and every kid by the shoulders and go "THIS IS NOT GOING TO MAKE YOU POPULAR, YOU KNOW NOT THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS"
I wasn't expecting Caitlin here omg
Finally a Webkinz video!! I remember as a kid we had one computer in the whole classroom, and during free time we would all crowd around this girl who had a Webkinz account as she played like it was prime time television.
She was ahead of her time before twitch streamers

I was gonna say the same thing!!! 😆😆😆
When I was little I loved webkinz, but I stopped playing the online game once my first webkinz got sick and I had to take them to the doctor. I was struck with the idea of them being able to get ill and terrified of the thought that they could die, and I ended up having a panic attack about webkinz mortality and ran crying to my mom who guided me to clicking the single button that would take them to the doctor and be healed instantly. Even when my cat healed I was horrified to know it could happen again so I condemned my digital pets to a purgatorial existence as I never logged in again. I don’t think I would’ve survived the Webkinz Killer rumors.
Idk why but thinking about Webkinz in purgatory made me laugh. I guess you don't have to worry about it any more though, a few years ago (2019ish I think) they deleted old accounts that hadn't been touched in over 7 years. I only know this because I am an adult who never stopped playing lol
PURGATORIAL EXISTENCE LMAO
Webkinz literally cannot die fyi
A variation I was told and believed in as a kid was that my webkinz could get cancer and Dr Quack would put them down, they would supposedly look the same as normal illness. That terrified me as a kid and I got so scared whenever one of them got sick
Lmao, that one is good
I feel SO cheated that Moshi Monsters never got any rumours like this beyond generic “evil hackers” smh 😤
The kids getting caught up in their own lies and beginning to believe them to have really happened is just the realest thing omg. I was big into creepy pasta when I was in my early teens and I would begin to believe that some of the stories were real, even the ones that I would write in my free time I became convinced that yeah that was real even when it was super obviously not real. This made me want to log into my webkinz account again I loved that site fr
Just means they were some great scary stories. I love creepypastas because they make me paranoid or doubtful sometimes.
I remember the Dr Quack rumor like the back of my hand. I never believed it as a kid cause I knew it was just a silly rumor. This is coming from a person who thought the wind blowing really hard on her bedroom window was slenderman trying to break in and kill her
I remember there was a rumor at my school that there would be a character that could shoot your pets if you had a window in your Rooms. I was terrified so I refused to decorate with windows for the longest time, just in case. As a kid with anxiety, it was particularly upsetting.
I'm so glad you covered this topic. The Webkinz Killer personally terrorized me back in 2007 when I was in the 4th grade. In that, I was a victim of playground gossip and was convinced The Webkinz Killer would kill my precious Webkinz at any moment. It got to the point that I was too scared to walk by the computer room (a thing at that point in time) and once finding that Webkinz PSA about the rumor, my mom immediately printed 30 copies to hand out to my entire class. It's hilarious to think of now but at the time I remember thinking it was life or death.

I was a little too old for Webkinz, but my little sister had gotten into when it was big. I remember I had been into Neopets when I was her age and it made me excited to see her doing something similar. I started getting involved and trying to help her with her account and even bought her a reindeer webkinz one year for christmas and felt like the coolest older brother ever.
It's funny how I can be nostalgic for a game that I considered myself "Too old" to ever play, but here we are!
I remember that the only thing in this game that scared me was the “rock the boat” mini game where you just go on a wrecked boat… rock it. Sometimes you get free stuff, sometimes a ghost pops out
The first time I did it, a ghost popped out and scared my poodle, Pinky, and myself
Baby’s first jumpscare
I absolutely fell for this as a kid. My friend at school told me that Ms Birdie killed her webkinz so when I got home I researched it on RUclips and just got fed a bunch more misinformation lol. Good times
I never heard about the webkinz killer, but I do have memories of being traumatized by the ghost pirate in the shipwreck jumpscaring me and making my webkinz lose almost all of its happiness. I’m surprised I haven’t seen that talked about more, that shit shook me to my core.
YEAH THIS SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME TOO. I literally ran away from the computer crying lmfao. Literally never did it again. You're not alone.

There was a virtual world named "Mundo Gaturro" that was extremely popular in South America, it had a ton of creepypastas and stories that would be so fun for you to cover! It was fully in Spanish tho, so it might be hard to translate or understand, but you should consider making a video on it :)

okay finALLY this is a version i saw as a kid
I had never played Webkinz as a kid but honestly this sort of thing doesn't surprise me. Online communities are intense.
This makes me so nostalgic tbh. I have to admit, I definitely was in the camp that didn't believe it but just liked scary things and was totally willing to lie about it lol.
I remember hearing about it and looking it up on RUclips, but ultimately being confused more than anything.
"Remember that we would never allow anything to hurt your Webkinz pets."
I'm 16 and this statement makes me cry, i love my webkinz aaaaa
Neopets had some genuinely disturbing content. The Ski Lodge Murder Mystery had gruesome animations of Neopets staff being murdered that freaked me out as a kid.
The original version of Neopets was aimed at college students more than kids, that's why it had so much "borderline" content like that from the really old days. There even used to be food items that represented wine and beer!
Hi Izzy! Idk if your heard, but there’s been an update on the trashion alley dolls! They found a prototype head, and on tik tok someone said it was all for contest between Hasbro designers. Apparently they’re were never meant to be released

That makeup is wild! I'm too old to have experienced webkinz (as goes for most of your topics), but it's always a joy to hear these stories.
This is so funny! It's my birthday today and as a kid my mom established this little tradition that she would get me a Webkinz on my birthday every year.
I'm an adult now, so it hasn't been a thing for a while, but I mentioned this to my partner the other day and they decided to recreate the tradition and now you release this particular video on my birthday at the same time!

The scariest legend about Neopets (not including data breaches) was the dreaded Boochi (randomly appears and zaps your active pet into a baby).
Im sure that was a rare random event because you could fight him in the battle dome mode if it happened to you.
That wasn't a legend, that was actually a real event lol
@@noon4172 Nah the Real Legendary event was that passing by Poogle who said Hi.
But doctor, *I'm* baby.
that wasn't a legend, just a stupid ass punitive RE bc Neopets developers were dicks and loved putting in punishing REs on the site. When REs got revamped TNT revamped the Boochi event so that he'd always miss, aka he'd never convert your pets to baby anymore
as someone who played webkinz religiously as a kid, the scariest part was not in fact the Webkinz Killer. It was the lack of 'good' pets/stuff without being member/deluxe member LOL
Izzzy, I hope you never let the trolls on the internet get you down. You're a vibrant soul and I think it's awesome that you show your unfiltered self to the world.
As a kid who grew up playing webkinz, this was a very entertaining video

Izzy is definitely a clowncore icon
FINALLY!! NOBODY HAS EVER TALKED ABOUT THIS!!!
I legit got my mom to send my Webkinz to get a checkup with me, because I was shaking and in tears, afraid that Dr. Quack would literally kill them. Nothing happened (obviously), but I was genuinely scared of losing my Webkinz.
I honestly thought that rumor was just a thing at my Pennsylvania public elementary school. I didn’t realize it was such a widespread online urban legend.
EDIT: I texted my mom “Do you remember that time I had a panic attack about Dr. Quack killing my Webkinz,” and she said she did, very well. She apparently also heard about the Neopets feud through other parents in the neighborhood. Rumor had it that the Neopets were going to invade Webkinz and murder everyone’s pets. I don’t ever remember hearing about it, but that’s mostly just because I was never into Neopets, and I never got into fights about the games I liked. I was just vibing out on Webkinz, unbothered by their competitors.
Wow, children are dumb. Information age was a mistake.
Neopets territorial expansion
I’m 23 now and although i know Dr Quack can’t hurt me, I fear him with my entire soul. Watching this was genuinely tough for me because of the intense fear elementary school fed me over this game 😂
I still have all Webkinz from over a decade ago and remember most of their names. It's a shame I don't have my old account. I would have loved to see my old Webkinz and play all over again.
I was too old at the time of the webkinz craze. It's somehow even more hilarious for me, as a total outsider to all this, to listen to stuff like "Ms. Birdy dresses up as Dr. Quack and kills your webkinz."
The worst/best part about this, knowing me and other people as kids, is that kids are VERY good at making themselves believe that they actually saw what they imagined.
Of course, this doesn't just apply to kids, but they are definitely more likely to spread it around as rumours.
Thank you for covering this!! I was one of those gullible kids that was told through play school gossip by a friend all the Dr. Quack/Neo Pet killer info. It freaked me out at the time, but I just never found out if it how far it spread. Either way, thank you for clearing up an old mystery 💜

When I told my mom she said we would sit down and log on together to prove it was a hoax. Ever paranoid, I made her log into my older brother's account to risk his webkinz and not mine. His webkinz were fine, obviously. I had no idea this was a widespread hoax and credited Garrett for the entire thing. I also held this against him until we graduated at least 10 years later. Hell, I still hold this against him. Fuck You, Garrett.
I remember hearing about this rumor through one of the chat rooms on webkinz and I panicked so bad 😭 I was freaking out because I thought that doctor quack was going to kill all of my WebKinz while I was away at school so I freaked out and deleted my entire account 💀
You killed them out of fear Dc Quank would 💀
kids scaring themselves with stories they've made up is so real. I terrified myself with a campfire story I made up at a girl scout campout in 5th grade and couldn't sleep for two days XD
It’s because your child brain is like “but what if something like that DID happen” 💀 I used to be the “scary stories kid” in my primary school class but I got scared of an OC I made up who would climb into your window and turn you into a living doll.
This was a fun watch! I was a crazy collector as a kid, had SO MANY of them. Course, I lost most of them when they put a limit on pets with their subscription service or something. Webkinz and other games like this for kids (Toontown comes to mind) started my love for video games. I look back fondly on that stuff to this day. Still a collector! Though in games like FFXIV now, of course.
i can confirm that kids are just weird like that
in 5th grade we had a day when all the power was out so there wasnt any lights on in the classrooms, i started rumours about ghosts before doing this weird “test” thing with peoples arms to see if they “were or weren’t a ghost” and literally convinced some people they were ghosts, why? I have no clue, i ended up getting in trouble though….😭
Idk why, but you looking like death metal fan talking about killer from webkinz is just so hilarious for me
and u made my mood so much better with that
thank you
The royalest ruler Izzy is here 💕

As a staunch neopets girl growing up, the fact that they thought we were behind this legend is amazing. Hilarious tidbit I love it
I hope you consider making a deep dive video on Webkinz in the future. I was obsessed with Webkinz for years as a kid and had around 45 Webkinz pets. It's a very nostalgic comfort for me and I wonder if there are other people who agree and also played as much as I did.
I got into webkinz from my 4th grade teacher who brought in a huge pile of webkinz with working codes to class, and you'd get one if you passed a quiz. After that my sister and I had each received more from our parents and we each had 5 of our own virtual pets. I was SO obsessed and played the game at school during free time and at home after homework like every day. I heard about the whole "webkinz killer" thing and completely dropped the game because I was too worried something would happen to me/ my webkinz irl lmao. Thanks for making me remember a huge part of my childhood Izzzy :)
We are thoroughly entertained by all your videos no matter their length Izzy! Also feel free to advertise your merch to your hearts desire, it's always the coolest stuff.
man i know it would ruin some of the magic for these things to be real but sometimes i wish the urban legends were real at least once because it would be so fun fr
I have never had a Webkinz sadly, but somehow that image of Dr. Quack with the chainsaw hit me with a wave of nostalgia as even I somehow came across it and was creeped out back the day lol
ive watched this video like 3 times now while playing dreamlight valley and im always rewatching the ad bc its so entertaining to hear izzy jabber about the game
What’re those Garfield plushies doing to each other?
Perfect! Just went on lunchbreak! Thanks Izzzyzzz!
Edit- LOVE the makeup so much btw and...are those two Garfields behind you mating?! 🤣
Really love the skull-like make-up for the vid, but the Club Penguin earrings really pulled it all together
The rumor about the killer bear scared the shit out of me as a kid! A parent email you showed brought it up briefly, but the more in-depth version I read detailed that if you went into an outdoor room at night (because they have a day cycle according to your computer's clock), a bear with red eyes would be lurking in the trees, then it'd jump out and kill your Webkinz. Even though I was a smart kid and knew all these rumors were fake, somehow that one got to me. I deliberately avoided outdoor rooms at night lol. It just creeped me out.
Thanks for covering this topic, Webkinz was and still is very fond to me - low-level creepypastas and all. I'd love to see a bigger deep-dive one day, like you did for Animal Jam!
