YESSSS SOME GAMES2GIRLS REPRESENTATION!! Girlsgogames really does come up the most as the paragon of feminine flash games, but i was always a Games2Girl. The Korean Sue games were my absolute favorite, though. Also shout out to Cartoon Doll Emporium, another classic lost to the march of time.
Same!! And if you liked Sue, Li Speaks - the creator Jelly mentioned who made the video about kissing games - has a deep-dive into Sue’s history as a Flash icon. I highly recommend it!
seeing the haircut game again and realizing "the strange symbols" i was so confused by as a 5-year old is actually just Korean clicked the pieces of a puzzle in my brain ahah, so satisfying
The cooking puzzles in the Nancy Drew games are of such variable quality. The jam cookie decorating one is addictive fun, meanwhile the baking at Shadow Ranch made me pull my hair out. 😂
i am male and i unironically frequented these game sites often as a kid because i really liked dress up games [Edit: one I frequented a lot was an AtLA one and I would, like, element swap the characters and construct weird AUs out of them (one of my favorites was the Airbender Katara AU iirc), I was like 11]
to me it feels like i activated some dead neurons on my brain and and remember how much i like the girly cooking games (generally because i like the cooking) i own to my sister for that
I didn’t know the word for it back then but flash games always gave me such an uncanny valley feel like something wasn’t quite right, almost like I was playing bootlegs that tried to gaslight people into thinking they were legit. Despite being fun, the repetitive music in some, the awkward silence in others, vague titles, incorrect voices for copyright infringed characters, oddly rendered or drawn versions of them and poor audio design gave it this weird nefarious feeling to me. It really felt often like I was expecting some sorta “Lacey’s flash games” type of thing to happen out of nowhere.
First of all, drawing elaborate maps of your dream home is so fucking real tho… I did mine in MS Paint. Thank you for reminding me that I did that as a kid. Reading the other comments and seeing our shared experiences gives me such a warm feeling. Second of all, I was too much of a proud tomboy to allow myself in girly flash game sites, but I played girly games on armor games or mofunzone to save my dumb childish pride. It’s interesting to see how everyone talks about this now that it IS old and mostly lost media, but was such a huge and normal part of our childhoods years ago.
My theory on why there's so much weird shock value stuff in modern low-effort kid's content is that they're leveraging the "obsession over something that scares you" effect
I remember playing the Barbie and Polly Pocket games as a kid. And I was so pleased to see you include clips from the game with Polly growing plants and the game with the dress up car in it. I particularly loved playing the dress up car game
The 2000s and 2010s were just a fantastic time (Social networks, music, the environment, true happiness, etc.) We miss it just like the baby boomers miss the 80s.
13:50 Oh yes, I love Doll Divine's work. ... Doll Divine is probably my most perused femme flash game maker. I actually don't really recall any others by name.
I'm a guy and my go-to was always GirlsGoGames. Got teased about it when friends found out in 8th grade but bro they were so fun. Loved the Devil Hairdresser game, loved all the cooking/cake-making games, loved the quality of the dress ups (good for designing characters) I sank soooo many hours into that site! A lot of the games you mentioned I played, I completely forgot about "Haircut" lol, what a nostalgia trip
Rinmaru, DollDivine, and AzaleasDolls were the holy trinity of dress up sites. I would spend hours using rinmaru's fantasy creator to make my characters
I believe DollDivine is working on preserving all of their flash games along with Rinmaru's. I remember spending a ton of time on those sites in 2015 to 2017 or so. I was on DeviantART a lot back in those days and used various dress up games to create different versions of my ocs
As a guy, I mostly played on more neutral sides, but I did check out girl flash game sites myself back when I was between 8 and 10, I really enjoyed the dress up games there, but most of the sites just seemed to chaotic back then, they often had more ads and lower quality designs of everything. But maybe that was just a german thing.
I remember playing a lot of dress up games as a preteen boy. But often not much longer than it took to undress the character as far as they could go, or find the most revealing outfit that I could.
they weren't flash games, but my two favorite "girly" games as a kid were the CD barbie magic hairstyler game and later Girlsense. my cousins and I were obsessed with the barbie game, we would play it all the time at our grandma's house. and girlsense was a random discovery, but I lived on that site after I stopped playing club penguin. so sad it shut down!!
Does anyone else remember the site with the tiny pixel art dolls that had pages and PAGES of like... goth and scene clothes that looked like they belonged in a night club?
YES was looking for someone talking about this in the comments!!! My sister STAYED on that one lol. They were tiny, and... gif like? I believe they had like, flashing gif type backgrounds you could put them in... they looked like Bratz but Jersey Shore but Hot Topic & Spencer's, but Hollister & Abercrombie and even Victoria's Secret, but JNCO jeans and Skateboarder brand clothes... yeah... I think I explained it pretty well... 😅 I went on it years back and it was still up, going to search it out now!
I love your video essays so much. Your little visual jokes are so funny and your content is so informative. It reminds me so much of my childhood, too. Gets me nostalgic 😩🤌
At first I wasn't going to comment because my only memory of these is seeing girls play them and thinking they were boring at the time. However, seeing a John Cena dress up game in this video was COMPLETELY unexpected. I only knew it was him because of the clothing items, there was empty space where his model would have been
Bluemaxima's Flashpoint also has tons of the girly games u know and love archived onto it as well. it rules. It has the weird house renovation game i always used to play because I was normal child :3 theres also the scary elsa surgery games tho so stay safe on there.
As a person who grew up feeling patronized by the pink isle and scorning "girly" things, I missed out on a lot of these. As a now less judgy older person who was also chronically online (Neopets games were my love) - I love being taken on these deep dives :D You're soothing, entertaining, and interesting all at once Dream Jelly! A gelatin-gem
I literally talked about this yesterday reliving the Polly Pockets Roller Coaster game, stardolls, and all of the makeover games on girls go games! I’m not sure why but I remember really judging the art style but still playing them. The makeover games had like 3 common versions of art: the pretty polished one, the ones that just had absolutely no shading and was purely color filled shaped to make a face, and then just bad hahaha Stardolls was more consistent, but it still also had the (what I call) “bad wax version” of a celebrity ever so often and it was like a jump scare!
i very rarely comment on youtube videos, but i've spent the last few days binging all of your content and i wanted to let you know how much comfort your videos have brought me. my grandmother passed away recently, and when i when i look back on my younger memories with her, they always involve hanging out in her computer room and playing all of these silly early 2000s games. watching your videos have made me feel like i can connect with her again in the same way i used to when i was younger. thank you for bringing back those pleasant memories, and keep up the good work !
My fav flash game was a game along the lines of ‘goth get ready’ or ‘goth makeover’. I was OBSESSED! No prizes for how I look now 😂 also I never found any enjoyment in dressing any male characters or celebrities, just the girls 😂👀
I have a very interesting piece of information regarding the haircut game. It originates actually from a site called "Say Hi Kids" which had a bunch of games with that little girl, called Ayse. I think the original name was "Ayse haircut" so it's not that really far fetched 😅
You're definitely right about the celebrity dressups. I remember someone the Justin Bieber one on the school computer and amassing a small crowd of kids to look at him in his boxers.
Ayy Charger Escape! Seems like the English girly games reached the Polish side as well. Now, does anyone else here remember (not necessarily limited to girly websites): - some dolphin rollercoaster/water slide thingy? or just dolphin doing tricks, jumping through hoops and stuff? (could be My Dolphin Show, Dolphin Olympics or a similar game - oh, Uphill Rush! yeah, that also seems familiar) - Cat vs Dog - Mutant Fighting Cup... why, dear child, is that where you went if you weren't drawing gore and funky villains? - The Cute X Hospital family of games!!! Cute Pet Hospital, Cute Jungle Hospital, Cute Horse Hospital (you could walk around there iirc, so that's nice)... - the Bomb It series - Strikeforce Kitty and its game family
Girl Games Club mentioned! To this day I’m surprised that site is still around. I was a Doll Divine main, but Girl Games Club and Dress Up Who were definitely a close 2nd and 3rd.I often gravitated towards the dress up games and made my own characters and stories with them. Those were fun times. Specific shoutout to this one game on Dress Up Who that I think was called Cute Emo Dress up. Made characters on that one for days lol.
Such a great dive into this topic! It felt wild to see some of the flash/dress up games I played growing up featured in your video. What a fun wave of nostalgia! I can't believe the amount of time I would spend playing that stuff lmao. Those current games look horrifying to me!!
The Strawberry Shortcake Ps2 Ship Race music in the background is getting my childhood nostalgia brewing, I always played that Berrylicious Bake Off flash game too on girlsgogame too. Man I even had an Agame account, which is the boy version of grilsgogame, because I wanted my progress not to reset every time I played Bombit and unlock stuff every time I got an achievement. When I wasn’t on the more violent flash game websites like Games Butler, Friv, or especially Y8, I always visited girlsgogames for all the fun dress up games like the Fashion Designer games; which were ads for the DS games of the same name. Being a boy never stopped my from enjoying them anyway hehehe
The part where u talked about the "new" girly games was really interesting bc I'm 16 almost 17 and when I was 7 to 10 (2014 - 2017) I grew up on the pregnant elsa, help Dora's teeths stuff, and for me at least I liked them bc you helped them and made them "pretty" again as a young girl gamer I found the older websites like girlsgogaming to be very boring in comparison to the crazy gross ones I did play my fair share of the normal fashion/makeup games on the app store but unfortunately the gross borderline creepy games are not a new thing or a gen alpha thing I love your videos btw keep making them!!
this awakened a lot of repressed memories from before i started thinking i was "too different" and "too good" to enjoy girly games and tried to pretend i never liked them, but would still play the barbie babysitting flash game at my friend's house "ironically". the grocery shopping part was my favorite
19:57 this!!!! This dug up vague memories of a pet adoption… breeding? Game? With hamsters or something ?? The human memory is truly amazing and also, really bad lol
My after school routine was always everythinggirl, neopets, club penguin, and then procrastinating my homework until I was on the bus in the morning 😂😂
there's one dress up game i remember but have been looking for YEARS!! it was an anime style dress up game, but a girl with... blue hair?? falling down a well, kinda alice in wonderland style, but you could dress her up. i miss it and maybe it was even a fever dream like 15 years ago
Was this on or made by BonnieGames by any chance? The mascot of the site was an anime girl with blue hair (Bonnie), and several of the games referenced Alice in Wonderland!
the adult parasocial feeling that we should be best friends is upsetting. Your growth is awesome, my friend and I had an EEp! moment when they told me they also watch your videos
As a kid, I used to play on a site I remember being called Bonnie Games. I spent so much time on that website, but nobody ever mentions it 😅 It had a very anime aesthetic, and I think hosted Korean dress up games.
Finally! I thought I was the only one who remembered BonnieGames! Of all the random dress up game sites I played on, I adored BonnieGames the most. Probably because the owner of the site had a beautiful anime art style, and the avatar, Bonnie herself, was so pretty to me. Thank you for mentioning it!
I feel like we are the same person... like every video you pump out had something to do with my childhood. 😂 But I am obsessed with your channel and this video just puts the cherry on top. So glad I found you the other day and I can binge your content. Also, thank you for bringing up those realistic surgery games. 😂I was totally obsessed with them growing up. Maybe that was one of my many telltale signs I was going to go into the medical field... I'm now a senior nursing major so HAHAHA
ah yes, another girly nostalgia 30-minute session !! i love the li speaks video you mentioned, it was the first girl-flash-game related video that i ever watched, later on i found out your channel, jelly
as a guy that literally grew up with flash games I assure that girl games were the best ones! I thank my big sister for introducing them to me, like, there’s pictures of lil three old me in my sisters lap, learning how to play games on GirlsGoGames
as an adult i have an unironic appreciation for dress up games. i lowkey want to revisit them to see if i can get outfit inspiration, cause damn some of them are so good 😭.
This isn’t really related but still inspired by flash animation. There’s this web series called “Bugbo” which is a comedy series that’s inspired by educational children’s flash animations. I 100% recommend it. It’s genuinely a good series
I was a games2girls main too. I understand the name as games for girls, which made sense to me as a kid, because in Danish, 'for' would be 'til', but 'til' can also be 'to'. So it totally made sense to me that it's games til/to/for girls! Idk who the original owners are or where they're from, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was a reason a bit like that and less than stellar English skills which led to the name. I do remember the egg frying game was Danish though.

I LOVED Cartoon Doll Emporium, one of my favorite sites as a kid. Hope someone makes a video about it someday :’)
I played the snack Sue game too much
@risxra ty for the recommendation, bc of her video I was able to actually succeed at the sue cake game for the first time in my life
seeing the haircut game again and realizing "the strange symbols" i was so confused by as a 5-year old is actually just Korean clicked the pieces of a puzzle in my brain ahah, so satisfying
The cooking puzzles in the Nancy Drew games are of such variable quality. The jam cookie decorating one is addictive fun, meanwhile the baking at Shadow Ranch made me pull my hair out. 😂
now i want a dream jelly video all about nancy drew 👀
@@realbattyYES I WILL PAY FOR A DREAMJELLY DEEP DIVE INTO ND GAMES OMG
Oh no! You picked fruit that wasn’t ripe, yet!
don't even get me STARTED on the White Wolf ones. That game was SO HARD 😭
In addition to dress up games, room decorating games were super fun as well.
Honestly, despite the stereotyped themes, I’m so happy we had girly games. They bopped!
i mean, the translated title at 19:29 is technically correctly "나는 미용사" just means "i am a hairdresser"
i am male and i unironically frequented these game sites often as a kid because i really liked dress up games
[Edit: one I frequented a lot was an AtLA one and I would, like, element swap the characters and construct weird AUs out of them (one of my favorites was the Airbender Katara AU iirc), I was like 11]
to me it feels like i activated some dead neurons on my brain and and remember how much i like the girly cooking games (generally because i like the cooking) i own to my sister for that
I didn’t know the word for it back then but flash games always gave me such an uncanny valley feel like something wasn’t quite right, almost like I was playing bootlegs that tried to gaslight people into thinking they were legit.
Such a niche shared experience. So nostalgic. Thank you for your content. It’s like a warm hug and a cup of hot choccy.
I have a very distinct memory of my sister and our neighbor getting a virus on the neighbors computer from a princess horse game 😂
lmfao
My theory on why there's so much weird shock value stuff in modern low-effort kid's content is that they're leveraging the "obsession over something that scares you" effect
Yeah agreed
I remember playing the Barbie and Polly Pocket games as a kid. And I was so pleased to see you include clips from the game with Polly growing plants and the game with the dress up car in it. I particularly loved playing the dress up car game
19:57 The maker of this hamster game has an art youtube channel now, DoodleDate!
i can't escape josh hutcherson he's everywhere
I used dress up games to make characters I'd write/imagine writing stories about, some still live rent-free in my brain.
Me too! I’d make sure I had multiple dress-up games lined up in other tabs so I didn’t lose momentum with the plot lol
My favorite game was one where you could design nail art and then you could print it, cut the nails and paste them on your nails with tape.
I thought I was the only one who chewed on Polly Pocket clothes! I'm happy to know I'm not. Makes me feel less weird.
Me three 😂 I swallowed a Polly Pocket shoe as a little kid and almost died lmfao 😅 my babysitter saved me!
I can still remember the way they squeaked against my teeth lol
The glitter ones tasted really badly though
I did the same thing. 😂
Emo fashion is timeless to me idc.
hard agree
My ass was never emo or goth but i remmeber when i was 6/7/8 id always look up goth emo makeover games and they were soooo epic
The 2000s and 2010s were just a fantastic time (Social networks, music, the environment, true happiness, etc.) We miss it just like the baby boomers miss the 80s.
11:16 I remember opening a bunch of games in separate tabs and sorting thru them to weed out the non-dress up ones lol
love your content
13:50 Oh yes, I love Doll Divine's work.
...
Doll Divine is probably my most perused femme flash game maker. I actually don't really recall any others by name.
the fashion designer new york game was MY FAVORITE. i’m so happy I saw it in the thumbnail
Paperdoll Heaven / Stardoll was SUCH a defining part of my childhood
13:54 ah yes what a cute little girly dress up game-
Dreamjelly: XxWAKE ME UP INSIDE!!!!1!xX
I'm a guy and my go-to was always GirlsGoGames. Got teased about it when friends found out in 8th grade but bro they were so fun. Loved the Devil Hairdresser game, loved all the cooking/cake-making games, loved the quality of the dress ups (good for designing characters) I sank soooo many hours into that site! A lot of the games you mentioned I played, I completely forgot about "Haircut" lol, what a nostalgia trip
I LOVED Rinmaru and DollDivine. Deviantart also had some cool dress up games.
Rinmaru, DollDivine, and AzaleasDolls were the holy trinity of dress up sites.
I would spend hours using rinmaru's fantasy creator to make my characters
I loved rinmaru... There was plenty of neutral and boy character makers! Including two couple makers that let you make queer couples
I believe DollDivine is working on preserving all of their flash games along with Rinmaru's. I remember spending a ton of time on those sites in 2015 to 2017 or so. I was on DeviantART a lot back in those days and used various dress up games to create different versions of my ocs
I LOVED RINMARU, it's a shame the website is dead
@@liv.s.
All of the games are on DollDivine now!
Rinmaru was such a blessing. And thankfully dolldivine has archived most of her flash games, with a lot of em translated to html5.
Them and azalea doll were ones of the most high quality ones.
Oh yeah, the sites were always littered with ads! Very weird and obscure ones, too
I remember playing a lot of dress up games as a preteen boy. But often not much longer than it took to undress the character as far as they could go, or find the most revealing outfit that I could.
Daniel Radcliffe's uncanny valley neck is going to haunt my dreams. God damn.
they weren't flash games, but my two favorite "girly" games as a kid were the CD barbie magic hairstyler game and later Girlsense. my cousins and I were obsessed with the barbie game, we would play it all the time at our grandma's house. and girlsense was a random discovery, but I lived on that site after I stopped playing club penguin. so sad it shut down!!
As someone who wasn't allowed on social media until my teens, these games are what make me nostalgic for the internet culture of the 2000s.
I may be a grown adult but dress up/character builder games had a grip like no other on me during the pandemic 💀
1:18 azaleas dolls shown. You have my attention
Honey I LOVE your content, THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE
Eeeeee I’m so glad!! THANK YOU FOR LOVING THE LOVE
At first I wasn't going to comment because my only memory of these is seeing girls play them and thinking they were boring at the time. However, seeing a John Cena dress up game in this video was COMPLETELY unexpected. I only knew it was him because of the clothing items, there was empty space where his model would have been
Bluemaxima's Flashpoint also has tons of the girly games u know and love archived onto it as well. it rules. It has the weird house renovation game i always used to play because I was normal child :3
theres also the scary elsa surgery games tho so stay safe on there.
I loved Doll divine well into being a teenager, just checked and happy to see theyre still going
i was a girly flash games kid FOR SURE i loved dress up and i was absolutely on all the different Mattel sites
I used to love cooking, dress up and room decorating games especially on dressupgames! The memories!!
Omg how could I also forget Stardoll!!
As a person who grew up feeling patronized by the pink isle and scorning "girly" things, I missed out on a lot of these. As a now less judgy older person who was also chronically online (Neopets games were my love) - I love being taken on these deep dives :D
You're soothing, entertaining, and interesting all at once Dream Jelly!
Fashion peaked with early 2000s dress up games
i very rarely comment on youtube videos, but i've spent the last few days binging all of your content and i wanted to let you know how much comfort your videos have brought me. my grandmother passed away recently, and when i when i look back on my younger memories with her, they always involve hanging out in her computer room and playing all of these silly early 2000s games. watching your videos have made me feel like i can connect with her again in the same way i used to when i was younger. thank you for bringing back those pleasant memories, and keep up the good work !
My fav flash game was a game along the lines of ‘goth get ready’ or ‘goth makeover’. I was OBSESSED! No prizes for how I look now 😂 also I never found any enjoyment in dressing any male characters or celebrities, just the girls 😂👀
Watching your channel grow this year has been amazing! Keep up the good work, documenting this kind of media is really important!
no one touch me dream jelly liked my comment
I have a very interesting piece of information regarding the haircut game. It originates actually from a site called "Say Hi Kids" which had a bunch of games with that little girl, called Ayse. I think the original name was "Ayse haircut" so it's not that really far fetched 😅
Just got an intense flashback of playing those Sue games and that Devil/Angel sister game specifically
You're definitely right about the celebrity dressups. I remember someone the Justin Bieber one on the school computer and amassing a small crowd of kids to look at him in his boxers.
i LOVED star stylin! so glad to see someone else remember games2girls :)
im a guy who grew up liking traditional boyish things, but goddamn i went hard on those cooking games. that shit went too hard.
Ayy Charger Escape! Seems like the English girly games reached the Polish side as well.
Now, does anyone else here remember (not necessarily limited to girly websites):
- some dolphin rollercoaster/water slide thingy? or just dolphin doing tricks, jumping through hoops and stuff? (could be My Dolphin Show, Dolphin Olympics or a similar game - oh, Uphill Rush! yeah, that also seems familiar)
- Cat vs Dog
- Mutant Fighting Cup... why, dear child, is that where you went if you weren't drawing gore and funky villains?
- The Cute X Hospital family of games!!! Cute Pet Hospital, Cute Jungle Hospital, Cute Horse Hospital (you could walk around there iirc, so that's nice)...
- the Bomb It series
- Strikeforce Kitty and its game family
Girl Games Club mentioned! To this day I’m surprised that site is still around.
I was a Doll Divine main, but Girl Games Club and Dress Up Who were definitely a close 2nd and 3rd.I often gravitated towards the dress up games and made my own characters and stories with them. Those were fun times.
Specific shoutout to this one game on Dress Up Who that I think was called Cute Emo Dress up. Made characters on that one for days lol.
the lil sound effects you put in these videos are so funny and i love them so much
Such a great dive into this topic!
Winx club dress up games were my jam.
Your growth is awesome, my friend and I had an EEp! moment when they told me they also watch your videos
i love you dream jelly, never stop posting!! these are my favourite videos everrrrrrr!!
Thank you for mentioning it!
thanks for the shoutout!! 💖
Of course!! 💗
Yeah i feel the same there❤
I was also obsessed with those games and now I am going into nursing school 😭😭😭
That was me with the cooking games, i’m a baker now 👩🏽🍳🥖🤌🏽
that clip of the barbie swan lake game unlocked some DEEP memories
ah yes, another girly nostalgia 30-minute session !!
i love the li speaks video you mentioned, it was the first girl-flash-game related video that i ever watched, later on i found out your channel, jelly
as a guy that literally grew up with flash games I assure that girl games were the best ones! I thank my big sister for introducing them to me, like, there’s pictures of lil three old me in my sisters lap, learning how to play games on GirlsGoGames
DivaStarz, myScene and PollyPocket were my jams back then!
as an adult i have an unironic appreciation for dress up games. i lowkey want to revisit them to see if i can get outfit inspiration, cause damn some of them are so good 😭.
This isn’t really related but still inspired by flash animation.
There’s this web series called “Bugbo” which is a comedy series that’s inspired by educational children’s flash animations. I 100% recommend it. It’s genuinely a good series
I still play on GirlsGoGames
Also, that MJ “heehee” killed me.
