Van Niekerk is a phenom. After going through all of those injuries and being able to mount a comeback like this is just amazing.

It's normal to make a comeback after injury. But making a comeback after years of injury is abnormal. Wayde is really phenomenal.
If he didn't get injured, I have a feeling he could've been the 1st man in history to run a sub-43, since he was only 0.03 seconds away from it.

@@mizile1486 Thisss! To come back after a few months or even a year is fairly common. But he got injured in 2017 and its been ages, since Covid happened and so much more, and now 6 years afterward he's back in serious medal contention. To go back to level zero, having to figure out how to run again, and take years off competition while watching those you demolished prior to medalling and improving can be absolutely heart-wrenching. It's so redeeming and wholesome and I'm sure that even most athletes would just give up after this long a wait. More than anything it shows both humility and pure grit and determination.

Nah he was like jogging but the others were closing on him. So just for control he had to push a bit at the end to finish first. This is how he was running before he broke the world record in 2016. I believe Wayde is back and he wants to break his own world record.

@@abigailnomsamndebele6351 definitely wasn't jogging. He had to work for that win. He may have trained through this race to ensure he's ready for World's, we never really know. If I was forced to pick, I'd go with Gardiner, but would be perfectly happy if Wayde beat him.
