- Splatoon as a whole has started to feel kinda boring. I've invested hundreds of hours across all three games, and as someone who loves the series, I wanted to figure out why it's starting to feel boring. I decided to play through all three games to figure out what happened.
Splatoon is a series made by Nintendo where two teams go against each other in 5 different gamemodes. Each one has a different objective such as Rainmaker spawning a rainmaker in that you must carry to the goal. There are different weapons each team can use such as Carbon Rollers, Octobrushes, or Splattershots and each weapon has a special such as Zipcaster and the Crab Tank. I think that's enough trying to boost the RUclips algorithm. Maybe a little more. Inklings, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Turf War, Tower Control, Kraken, Octo Expansion, Side Order, Salmon Run.

i played at least 1k hours on each game, and Splatoon 3 is the most boring, I prefer Splatoon 1 over 2 on Multiplayer, but Splatoon 2 over 1 with the Story ( esp Octo )

They stopped letting you paint walls. There's a management decision (I'm assuming here) that all maps must have choke points to force player interaction.
This is one thing I will never understand: why would they get rid of the majority of inkable walls when 3 added Squid Rolls and Surges? They essentially added the ability to wall jump, yet none of these maps are designed with it in mind.
for me, every time i feel like i want to play splatoon 3 i get into a match until i get bored and leave.
a lot of people brush off the idea of "seasons" and ranked decay and stuff in splatoon 3. that's the biggest reason i haven't been playing it
it feels like reverse fomo, like the longer i don't play, the more i don't want to get back into playing it
I only do it if I see something interesting that I like lol
You say the best thing about splatoon 3 is the single player but the single player is just octo expansion with less levels, areas to explore, and a skill tree

the splatoon 3 story mode is better in terms of gameplay due to the hub world and the levels are just more octo expansion and imo visually i like alterna and the level backgrounds much more than the octo expansion backgrounds another thing is that while the octo expansion has a better story splat 3 gives you better lore telling us more about the humans

Honestly, I spent a good amount of time burnt out on Splatoon 3 after clearing the first season catalog, mostly just playing on and off for Splatfest and Big Run, but Side Order is doing a good job at drawing me back in. The variability in the palette builds makes it so that each run through the tower still feels unique and challenging.
This literally explains my case with Splatoon 3 as well!
100% agree, side order really made me come back to playing as well, it's very cool with all the palette's and getting to choose which options to take through each run.

I don’t feel this way as someone who is competitive I love that shit is pretty balanced except some weapons are ass and some maps suck
Here’s something that I’ve said multiple times over here and other socials. I got Splatoon 1 in with a lot with other games. I couldn’t play online other others because the servers were down. I did not know there was a single player mode in Octo Canyon until after the servers were turned back on in August 2023. Since then I’ve collected the other two games at different times (2 then 3) and progressed a little bit as well as playing all the single player aspects.
Octo Expansion is really good and to me is challenging but have yet to finish it. I am enjoying Side Order so much that I barely play online. I know I’ll finish the Fresh Season catalog since I had less time to finish the Chill Season one when I got the game for Christmas.
I do agree the aspects of all of these games can be a little repetitive, and I can see why there are people who could be bored with this especially after playing the first game since somewhere near day one.
Two things I feel that have changed the vibe of splatoon are the vibrant colors and the story modes and In game text. I get that splatoon 3 is the newest game, but it just doesn’t feel like it uses colors for vibes anymore. In the character selection screen in splatoon 1 and 2, we are immediately introduced to these vibrant and welcoming colors. But in splatoon 3, it just all seems left out for some reason. Same thing with the waiting room. Sure, the splatoon 3 one is less boring, but it doesn’t give off the same vibe of the first or second game. The second thing is the dialogue in game. This is a game mostly made for kids, and that’s fine with me. But it seems that the dialogue gets more and more childish throughout the series. “Think your fresh?” Is the first sign after about 30 seconds into first opening the game.
I had fond memories with Splatoon on the Nintendo Wii-U over the years (alongside with the other Wii-U titles)!
I remember back around late May/early June, my grandfather and I went to Walmart to get Splatoon for my Wii-U, and I had a goddamm blast!🤩
Sadly though, around October 2018, I sold my Wii-U for Xbox One X.
Speaking of which, I hope Nintendo decides to bring the rebellious, magic back to life for Splatoon in Splatoon 4 in the future.
God, I hope Nintendo doesn't milk the Splatoon franchise to death like how the other triple AAA companies are doing it.
Also, since Splatoon 3 is the last Splatoon game of inklings vs octarians saga, I think Splatoon will have a new, fresh, and unique start with tropical/exotic environments, new species that's related to allies/heroes or foes/villains, more clothing options, playable idols (such as Squid Sisters, Off The Hook, and Deep Cut), new and original story mode that doesn't involve with octarians stealing the zapfish, new idols (and it better a male idol this time, or better, male and female idol falling in love each other), new side modes, customizable weapons, new splatfest-like events, glowy fingertips/toes, unique hairstyles for both inklings and Octolings (alongside with the new species), unique clothing based off from Splatoon manga/dolls, better online servers, new and original maps, new and original enemies (including the main antagonist of Splatoon 4) that's alot more threatening and terrifying than octarians, and last but not least, bring back the collaborations for Splatoon 4 (such as amiibo, anime/manga, and indie/AA game franchise collaborations)!
Also, can you do a try not to laugh/cringe challenge of Splatoon content, please?
Where'd you here about Splatoon 4? I wouldn't think we're getting that game since Splatoon 3 came out not 2 years ago and side order just came out. Did I miss a direct or is this just a fan theory?

side order already showed what future story modes are gonna be like and i dont think nintendo will make 2 idols fall in love as a story thing but if they do decide to do that it would probably be like off the hook where they give clues and hint at it also new species is a no we already have the octolings and inklings and we know they are the only species able to play turf war normally every other species in splatoon cant play them normally another thing is the splatoon devs already said they dont want to make new modes for splatoon at all but instead just edit whatever there already like the challenges and extra work we already have new events like big run and we already got clothing from the splatoon manga in splat 2 but they region locked the gear so only jp players could get it and also why would we get playable idols? if we did everyone would just play as them and not the normal characters it would suck the most they should do is let you play as the idols in a short section in a story mode but please dont make them playable any where else it would ruin the customisation of the game and for the costomizable weapons the most they should do is let you make your own kit so you choose the sub and specials it would suck if they let you make your own unique main weapon as it would be hard to balance

my personal belief is several.
lore wise: they constantly show us more without showing us anything. I personally want to explore this world. It has so much going on but we only get to see text or implications. An we are just relegated being confined in a hub box.
gameplay wise: this is mostly multi play but there are so many problems to speak of in depth. but to name a few~ match making, connectivity, balancing, no real customization, and heavy grinding for little pay off.

I always said when it comes to this the long and short of is the player based made it more serious than it needs to be. I think we cared too much about what is good vs what is fun. And think we haven’t really had that distinction of either wanting win or simply get better at the game, than just playing the game just because you want to
Ive always wanted to play splatoon ever since it first came to the wii U but I never got the console. I got the splatoon 3 switch about a year ago with the game, but only now just started playing and I think its pretty fun. ive been playing zelda botw and totk in the mean time since my friend told me to get it for zelda.
splatoon is such an interesting concept for a game, just like rocket league where it doesnt really have any competition becuase there isnt anything quite like it. (except for rip-offs which dont count)
As someone who plays competitively I can’t say that Splatoon 3 has become boring for me but what does burn me is the lackluster content updates, combined with balance patches that often fail to actually fix the main problems with most weapons/subs/specials. The new 2024 Fresh season is a prime example of this update/patch problem.
Another thing I’d like to add is that even though Splatoon 3 adds the least brand new concepts out of the three games in the series, it adds so many QOL improvements combined with more goals to aim for (mainly thanks to badges) that I often never feel bored like I was with S2, where in that game a lot of the brand new stuff like salmon run felt half baked and got boring extremely quick. S1 is unique from this case in that the sheer chaos still makes it a fun game to play imo, despite many connection issues and the fact that S1 is the most basic game of the series (naturally).

Over nearly 9 years I’m going to get bored. I’ve stopped playing when that happens. I just feel like this time it’s Splatoon that’s boring and not that I’m bored with it. When you compare the games over 9 years there’s not much changes. However you might not be bored with the game. That’s ok, it’s your opinion. Don’t tell me I’m wrong for having an opinion, using a food comparison, just say you disagree. Opinions aren’t right or wrong and there’s a high chance that there’s a game or food you hate that someone else loves

Don't hate the guy, he literally made the video to figure out why he thinks Splatoon is boring. I imagine that's a new way to enjoy the games. If you don't enjoy the videos because they're repetative then that's your fault. Don't watch them if it's "tiring".

Octo Expansion is Peak Splatoon, you should play it
new game modes made splatoon 2 feel unique. splatoon 3 doesnt have that
3 is just so grindy compared to 1 and 2, also for some reason it has a battle pass.
as someone who has played both octo and splat 3 ive got to be honest splat 3 fumbled the bag for story mode, it feels like they didnt really understand what made story mode good
Salmon Run is better than in 2, Side Order is highly replay-able, Story mode was pretty long even if it was a 1 off, Multiplayer has a ton of cool weapons; I think it's just because you keep playing while you're bored instead of getting off and taking a break. We know from interviews that there are more concurrent players than any game before!

The reason it isn't fun anymore? Simple: they catered too much to the hardcore competitive side of the community, leaving us casuals with limited options. If it wasn't for Salmon Run and Side Order I wouldn't have bothered getting the third game.
idk man, your ramblings sound like an old guy saying everything was better in my Day. While id comftorably say that S3 is the best game in the series so far, it still has problems sure but out of the 3 games I do believe it to be the most fun The Specials are really creative and fun the weapon feel is better then it ever was and while they still managed to not nerf pencil I do like how the Balancing was handled generally so far.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I like that they didnt change the game on a fundemantel level, I still want to play Splatoon afterall. All games become stale after you play them to much so idk. I dont think Nintendo went wrong so to speak.
But maybe such a bad faith discussion is to expected when you make it your goal to find an awnser to why something isnt fun anymore.

I take breaks when I’m bored, this time just felt different, as if the game was boring itself. And when I saw that video that said “I Made Splatoon 3 Fun Again” I felt the same about the game not feeling fun right now

I understand though. Splatoon 3 isn’t really as fun as splatoon 2 or 1. I was able to play splatoon 2 for hours. I find myself going back to 2 and 1 way more than 3.

The Splatoon 3 Stages are questionable. Like they are basically Tetris shapes. A lot of the good stages they brought back, were scuffed up a lot.
Also they really need to fix the matchmaking in ranked matches.
And if we’re going to talking about things being unbalanced at least bring up tri colour matches and the constant mirror matches.
