- I no joke watched over 80 hide and seek videos to make sure that I got as much correct information as I could.
Splatoon hide and seek was an amazing concept killed because it was overused. A lot happened over 6 years and in this video I cover as much of it as I could find. From Skul, Fishy, and Choco, 3 friends just having fun playing games together to now, this is the rise and fall of Splatoon hide and seek.

@@SnoFitzroy it does work out, around half of the comments are just “The rise of Splatoon and fall hide and seek” which comments boost the engagement and RUclips algorithm and whatnot.
Even though I'm not a hide-and-seek person in the Splatoon franchise, it's very sad to see that Skul, Octoboy, and Fishy Fish don't play hide and seek anymore in the Splatoon franchise like they used to.
Do you mean Choco? They were more involved in the group than Octoboy although he did technically make some videos on it
kinda sucks that the group split apart, but sometimes things don't work out, great video btw
Oh yeah, but it’s life. There’s always going to be change and sometimes it’s bad. I was honestly considering titling this “The Sad Tale of Splatoon Hide and Seek” instead since it truly is upsetting what happened to the 3 of them. Thank you for the kind words

Why did feel so sad. All those times I watched hide and Seek and did it with my friends just to see this is how the creators ended it. Amazing video and bringing the truth to the masses
I used to watch them too, it’s a shame how it ended with Skul trying to milk an already dry cow than on a high like that livestream where they had all 7 people to play

Words can’t express how far you had to reach into my subconscious to pull these memories back out. As someone who didn’t catch any of the drama until about a month after it all went down, and there being so little info that I could find about at the time, I’d resigned to just having it be a mystery for me that I’d only think about every once in a while at 2am. Now I have a bit more of a clearer answer, and I can sleep at a more reasonable time now, thank you

@@Rayqueezerits not so much that I’m confused, more of the fact that that I was out of the loop on that situation for long enough that it would only cross my mind at ungodly hours of the night (like at 2 am) so now that I actually have an explanation I don’t know what to do with it.
So like- I knew a small amount about what went down, but the details about it were kinda surface level and since I didn’t really know where to look the only info I was seeing was the apology post he made on twitter and the replies that I just kinda figured “oh he just said/did something that offended the other creators in that group, and people are upset about it. Fair enough ig”
But yes- now I won’t have to think about it past midnight anymore, and can have other mysteries plague my mind instead lol

and its just a pretty decently structured historical timeline about the most obscure, niche part of nintendo internet culture. its great. 7/10

@@polytanksan5761 I start a podcast where there’s music in the background that gets louder. I never adress it and in 10 minutes you can’t even hear me as the music is now ear rape.

It was skull’s hide and seek videos that got me into playing Splatoon for the first time and that started my love of the series. I eventually fell off watching him, always missed it tho
Most of his audience stopped watching him, the old videos are good to look back on, but also sad to watch them as well since those times aren’t coming back
Vian was my favorite content creator ever back in the day and I loved seeing him in the hide and seek vids. But now there's allegations against him and simple fun times are over... I still care about him as a person though and I hope he's ok

Update: I just needed up looking into it myself lol. Only found like one youtuber talk about the situation. I may look more into later than just RUclips of course.
It really is sad what’s happened to most of the group (not just Skul Fishy and Choco). Unless I’m forgetting someone, they all stopped uploading except for Skul. Its hard to say who did it at the best time, but at the end of the day the good times are over

Man I remember binging those videos and being such a big fan of Skul's content. The Latias collab was probably the last video I watched of his before all the drama happened - a video I'm still happy exists because it made me a fan of Latias's content. Sad to hear Choco and Fishy have fully stopped YT in general.
Never thought I'd see a video essay on such a niche topic. Very nicely made video. Hope you keep getting bigger.

Should have known something was wrong when it came out things ended poorly...
I would say that Splatoon 2 was the beginning of the end. Quite literally starting by replacing 2 core members of the group with people they’ve never played with.
I remember playing splatoon hide and seek with my best friend who would only come over once every few months, than they removed the feature to play with 2 people on 1 device and we were so sad. This video was awesome, keep up the good work!

Idk why being jealous of your friends having more views on their videos than yours is still a thing. Shouldn’t you be happy for your friends to get that far? I have a small channel, but I still cheer on various people for getting more subs.
I’m not excusing Skul, since there’s honestly no excuse, but it is his job (or at least was) so I can see why he wasn’t happy to not get as many views. However, that doesn’t mean you should be jealous of your friends. Instead of complaining he should have talked to them to see what they were doing to get views and just get a different perspective
@@Rayqueezer From my memory, the issue wasn’t completely about views. Yes, Skull had an issue with his views never reaching as high as they did in the past, but the drama unfolded due to a livestream. This livestream was ran by one of the people in his hide and seek videos who had significantly more views than Skull.
In the stream, the RUclipsr (who I won’t name) had other content creators, including a few others who played with Skull. They all played hide and seek in the stream together, leaving Skull out.
Allegedly, Skull had contacted every person in that stream to make more hide and seek videos with him, but they weren’t responding to any of Skull’s messages. Out of anger, Skull would make a post to Twitter/X about his friends. That is where the drama began.
This part gets a little fuzzier, and unfortunately a lot of the messages from that time had been deleted, but Skull would go on to say he invented “Hide and Seek” and said some pretty rude things about his friends for simply not playing with him.
On the flip side, people that Skull had played with would go on to talk about Skull’s rude behavior. How he would talk and treat people off of RUclips. Even on RUclips it was pretty evident that Skull had some issues, because he would blow up at his friends/fans on stream (sometimes on other peoples streams as well).
It made sense why Skull was ignored, and around this time Skull would get exposed for more stuff. He posted on his Twitter that he was going to get therapy around the time he took a break on RUclips.
Sorry for the long reply, but this information was not brought up in the video and I thought I could share.
This video is really detailed about the situation, and I honestly miss the original trio (even Kyjana), but great things never last :(
I expected to see like a look back on the videos I used to watch basically all I could find and how everyone eventually just got bored of it, not a reflection on how hide and seek indirectly split apart 3 friends 💀💀
Very informative and well put together video. Just yesterday I was thinking about what happened to splatoon hide and seek videos and now this one conveniently popped up. It's nice to know what happened in the end, even if it wasn't the most heartwarming story out there
Kyjana was kicked off the group bc Kyjana was being Kyjana. She was actualy infamous in the Sonic fandom. From tracing to being a homewrecker, she did stuff...

That’s interesting. I just remember in a live stream that’s probably taken down and not going to see the light of day someone asked Skul about what happened to Kyjana and he said she wouldn’t be on his channel anymore and that he wouldn’t say why. I’ve never heard anything about what she’s done, but what is OC?
@@Rayqueezer it means Original Character. She had a infamous Sonic OC that she paired with Shadow, and she would draw unecessarily lewd stuff about the two.
About her being kicked off, there was a nasty rumor (that i personally don't believe) that she was flirting with Skul and his wife/gf (not sure) discovered that. The other rumor is that the drama from the Sonic fandom found it's way to Skul's ears and he wanting to have a family friendly channel, kicked her out of the group.
@@lucchi018 oh. I don’t believe that she flirted with him either, but I do believe there was some weird relationship between them. In one of the hide and seek videos Skul used a kraken and Kyjana said he was looking up her skirt and while it was a joke I was just sitting there wondering why say that? And there’s other examples I could list of their weird relationship, looking back I think it was obvious Kyjana was going to get kicked from the channel. That Sonic rumor could be true too, I guess we’ll never know for sure.
@@Rayqueezer Skull had apparently known about Kyjana’s past. A long time ago, and I mean A LONG time ago, there was a video posted by “Levi Matters”. The video was called something along the lines “Woomy me a better alibi” and it talked about Kyjana’s past (aka Lely Gaia in the sonic fandom). Skull had left a comment on Levi’s post, but I can’t remember what he said. It was something like that he was going to keep Kyjana in the group regardless of her past, because she was nice toward him and the rest of the group.
Levi was involved in a separate drama, which I don’t know the details about. Because of this, the video I am talking about has been deleted along with their channel. However, there are still videos that talk about Levi’s video up on RUclips.
Another thing is that I believe the rumor of Kyjana flirting with Skull was fabricated by a speculation Levi had made in their video. Levi’s video had thousands of views, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the video was found by many people of the Sonic/Splatoon community.
I honestly doubt Kyjana was flirting with Skull, as it seemed like she was trying to move on from her past behaviors.
Wow this video REALLY hit. I was actually a yt member of skul and talked a lot in his member section in his discord. I was at the forefront of the whole drama and do know why Kyjana left (won't disclose what happened) that drama was the nail in the coffin for a lot of his members (including me) and have never watched since. I do keep in touch with the other members from time to time. I actually shiny raced him for a dreepy and seemed like he only let me race him bc I was the first (and only) to offer. Overall looking back on it he 200% had a preference for women and was nicer to them then the guys.
man, this video brought back a wave of nostalgia, but I'm sorry to hear how it ended. I appreaciate this video, it was nice to hear the story again, despite the ending.
It’s really a shame, Skul and his funny Splatoon content helped me enjoy the Splatoon community more then I already was, I hadn’t played much Splatoon 1, and his content encouraged me to pick the game back up, only to find there was a second game… I didn’t get that until about 2022 so I missed both Splatoon 1 and 2 at their peak… now I have moved onto Splatoon 3 as a veteran who missed everything, and am excited to see how everything goes! While the past was fun, things have changed… it’s time to move on from the “good old times” and make new memories!

In the comments of the video Skul announced that Choco was trans he said that her name was Kaylee not Kaitlin. Also you can check Choco’s channel, it literally says Kaylee. Unless it was said on another platform such as Twitter which I don’t use, I said what name Choco went with

@@Sanitised wdym old pronouns? I talked about the history of Splatoon hide and seek. While Choco was a guy I said things like he/him, and after I mentioned that she was trans I stopped using those pronouns. If you wanted me to call Choco a woman the entire time that’s just not the history.
