How To Easily Shorten Vertical Blinds

If, like me, you accidentally order some vertical blinds at the wrong length and they are too long or maybe you are re-purposing some blinds on a different, shorter window or you've even bought some ready-made vertical blinds that are too long, then this is an elegant way to easily shorten them without the need for special tools or messy glue. All you need are scissors, a tape measure and a sewing machine.
The vertical blind vanes I am altering here are vinyl so the existing stitch lines are impossible to get rid of. Worse still, these vinyl vanes are blackout too so the stitch lines are even more apparent and could easily let light through if not dealt with properly. Not a good look!
So, no matter what fabric your blind vanes are made from this method will give you a neat and elegant finish and without any ugly original creases or stitch lines. You don't even need to cut any fiddly new little holes for the hanger hooks at the top.

My friend has a brother b755-mk 3 and the needle is hitting the plate. Have you got any advice please. Can't seem to find any helpful info

Is it definitely hitting the plate? Or the bobbin case just below the plate maybe?

It is off centre and the needles keep breaking

The needle is not centred properly it is off centre and we don't know how to get it in the hole without breaking needles. Can't send a pic

Is there a presser foot in place and if so, is it not hitting that too?

Ah OK, that makes more sense. It sounds like the timing is out so it's hitting the wrong part of the bobbin case (rotary hook) underneath rather than the gap in the bobbin case. It is possible to reset the timing but it involves loosening the screws that hold the bobbin case in place and they can be a bit tricky to get to. You'll need to remove the plate and the feed dogs. You then need to position the needle in the right place before re-positioning the bobbin case so that the rotary hook is lunged up with the middle of the needle.
