Thank you for this. I just restrung my vertical blinds for the first time in 15 years, due to my cats chewing nearly through the string. With your help, it was quick and easy, and I saved a bunch of time & money not having to buy new custom cut blinds.
Thank you. Great tutorial. My blind mechanism is slightly different but I still got the general gist of it and was able to fix the string with no difficulties after watching your instructions. Thanks again.
Excellent video! Unfortunately somebody pulled the old cord all the way through, so the job is a bit more difficult, but your video shows what to do xxx
Brilliant video. I had no idea that type of cord could be joined up with the aid of a cigarette lighter. I packed in smoking many years ago but was delighted to find I still had a working lighter hidden away at the back of a drawer!
Thanks so much for the detailed video! I was able to restring my verticals with this as my guide. The tricks showing how to take down the slats with a credit card, and melt the string together to snake the new string through the guides are very helpful.
A very pro video, clear and precise,BUT, my problem is two broken Gizmo's that the 'Vanes' are attached to. How to replace them, It's a different make, but most of this is the same principle
Hi Philip - If you send us some pictures of the broken clips, we can let you know if they are replaceable. Our email address is service@fixmyblinds.com.
Got home the other day only to find out my kids played with the blinds and broke it. This really helped me to understand what I should do and how to fix it. Awesome job!
Can I restring the blinds so I can have them open either right to left or left to right? So neither side is fixed to the edge? I know I’d need a wand at each end.
Hi there, I'm sorry, but there's no way to set a vertical blind to do that. You can purchase a new blind or headrail that operates as a "center stack" that does that.
Hi there, To get that chain back in, you'll have to disassemble the control end of your blind so that the gear is exposed. If you need any assistance with that, please email us a few pictures of your control end. Our email address is service@fixmyblinds.com.
Just tried cutting down a head rail that opens in the middle, what a headache.🤬,and yes it went in the bin.cut loads of normal ones down over the years but don’t think your really supposed to be cutting those ones down😏
Note: this is not ONE set of instruction but many different sets which appear to be one set. This confused me for ages until I realised I only needed the 2nd set.
Is the string broken, Rick? Follow the path of the string until you find where each end is tied off. Perhaps one of the ends became untied. If it's broken, it will need to be replaced. If you need any other assistance, please email us at service@fixmyblinds.com.
@@fixmyblinds Thanks for the reply. They still work. I just notice that they sometimes they tend to sag down to the point they become visible. I guess they need tightening.
Hi Laura, To change the carriers, the entire carrier train will need to come out of the blind. You'll have to remove the blind from the window first and take off the slats. Then, the strings will need to be taken out and the carrier that you're replacing disconnected from the others. Then, the new carrier can be placed in the train. After that's done, you can replace the strings and put the carrier train back into the headrail of the blinds. It's a complicated multi-step process. With replacing carriers, it is sometimes easier to hire a professional or just replace the entire headrail. For new headrails, we recommend www.reslat.com.
Hi Donna, We're happy to help troubleshoot this. Would you please send us an email to service@fixmyblinds.com with some pictures of your vertical blind? Once we know what style of vertical blind you have, we'll be able to help with some specific information.
At 9:00 is it possible to reverse blinds like this to have them open right, but the cords hang on the left? My mom has hunter douglas blinds like this and it says reversible, but I think it just means you can flip the whole unit around.
Some types of vertical blinds are reversible; some are not. It depends on the components inside the rail. There is a metal rod inside the head rail that runs the whole width of the blind. Is that rod in the center of the rail or is it offset? If it's offset, it can not be reversed. If you'd like to email us some pictures of the vertical you're working with, we can give you more information. Our email is service@fixmyblind.com.
Unfortunately my nieces wont or can’t control their kids so both sets of bay window blinds in my moms cabin are totally jacked up. I’m going to try to follow this video to see if I can repair them myself, but they are older and instead of opening in one direction they part in the center of the window and move to both sides. Maybe this is not the right tutorial for me.
Hi Eric, That type of vertical blind you're describing is called a Split Draw. We do have a video showing how to restring one of those here: ruclips.net/video/YdHqJ40I9lk/видео.html. That may be a bit more helpful. If you run into any questions, let me know!

I found this video a simple and clear explanation of the repair. It really helped with the restoration of my parent's ancient vertical blinds.
Perfect detail explanation. Great job and help to others. 🎉
Perfect thank you. My kitten decided that the string is now a play thing and broke it. Fixed it in 5 minutes.

My levolor vertical blind string broke somewhere in the middle. String pulls on the left side. Where can I buy a replacement nylon/polyester string?

wow cool trick with the lighter, didn't know about that. Will that work on all strings?
At will work on strings made from nylon and polyester. If the string is cotton, it will not work.
