The highlights don't do him justice. Eli was getting mollywhopped the entire game behind his shoddy line up against the elite 49ers front 7. This was as gutsy as a performance as you'll ever see--still my favorite Eli game.
This game perfectly sums up why Eli Manning is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Besides the numbers (where he is now top 8 of all time in many major statistical categories -- TDS, yards, etc. -- 2 factors define his hall of fame case. 1. Toughness. He has never missed a game due to injury in 14 years of his career. That is perhaps the most valuable trait your starting quarterback can have. You know how many teams have constant uncertainty at the QB position, or have years wasted because of major injuries to their franchise QBS? Eli takes hit after hit in this game and never once stays down for an extended period of time. He gets right back up, and makes tough throw after tough throw knowing he's gonna be jarred as soon as he lets it go. 2. Clutchness. This game has got to be one of the clutchest QB performances in recent memory. Facing poor weather conditions and the NFL's top defensive line in 2011, Eli threw the ball 50+ times without turning it over. Trailing by 4 in the 4th quarter on a 3rd and 15th in 49ers territory, Eli TD pass to Manningham could not have been more accurate. It took overtime to win, but watching those last minutes of regulation was watching the grittiest performance of Eli's career.
First ballot? Come on, that’s just silly. He has 1 more ring than Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer, and he rode his defenses coat tails to both titles just like those 2. Eli is the most overrated QB of all time.
@First Name Last Name Shouldn't have mattered. It's more about their offense being unable to hold on to the ball. When you keep handing the ball back it makes the pass rushers tired and run out of tricks defensively so eventually a good QB will break through. If you possess the ball at all that doesn't happen
Man as a kid I grew up in a 49ers household but always supported the Giants. Had a terrible relationship with my father and this was the year I finally left his house. This game meant so much to me.
@@JohnGoetzGaming unfortunately you’re wrong cause the results proved him right, he made it to the Super Bowl with Kap not Alex. The facts don’t care about your feelings..
Anyone that doesn't think Eli is a Hall of Famer, watch this full game. Highlights don't do it justice, he got killed physically by SF and kept coming up. Best game of his career IMHO
These two defenses were massive. Such a great game. That SF team was so good. Shame they always fell short. And people forget in 2011 Eli was the 2nd best an in the league.
One of elis best seasons. He carried them! All season their D was bottom of league, their running game bottom Of the league. It was all Eli and his 4th quarter heroics that lead them to playoffs. N The D n run game got better n the rest is history. Believe Eli had most 4th quarter tds in history that year. Pro bowler. Amazing season. N i think this was the year where he was asked if he was an elite qb b4 season started, ppl laughed n as usual, shut their asses up!
The best highlights team the NFL Network ever had was Rich Eisen, Michael Irvin, Deon Sanders and Steve Mariucci. I loved listening to them comment on games.
A. Smith 12-26, 196 YDS, 2TDS, 1-13 ON 3RD DOWNS but take away V. Davis 3 REC, 112 YDS, 2 TDS equals to A. Smiths performance effort as a quarterback 9-23, 84 YDS, 1-13 ON 3RD DOWNS. Looks like Kyle fuck up Williams wasn’t the only reason why the 49ers lost the NFCCG. Even with one of the best offensive lines in the league, Frank Gore the franchise leading running back, Vernon Davis the most explosive and athletic tight-end in the league, Michael Crabtree a very underrated talented wide receiver, also the #1 defense in the league that made key plays and stops to get him the ball back and Alex Smith only managed to come up with that?!? He always sucked as a game manager quarterback for this team. At least Colin Kaepernick was an upgrade for the team and he was decently good when he was using the read option play and scrambling around to run or throw the ball.
Just like 2007, underdogs all the way (2011 beat Falcons 10-6; Packers 15-1; Niners 13-3; Patriots 13-3). Say what you will about an Eli-lead Giants team, they sure knew how to win when it mattered.
A game San Fran should have won. That defense was sick. I couldnt believe they eventually moved on from Alex Smith after he finally found his game after weathering a few years of ups and downs. Ultimately I was happy because the Giants did the NFL world justice by beating the New England Cheaters in the SB. To this day I believe San Fran would have eventually won a SB had they stayed with Smith. That team was sick. When I wasnt busy watching Bears games I would watch Harbaughs 49ers. I loved how they played like men anongst boys in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Their offensive line flattened everything in front of them & the LB core of Fangios 3-4 was just as brutal. The Giants were no joke either. I loved the 4 DE front of Fewells NASCAR defense. These two teams historically have alot of good games between each other.
I used to consider Elisha Manning as a overrated QB in the NFL because he play in NYC the media capital of the world until the 2011 NFC Championship Game against the 49ers when he took a lot of those hard ass hits and he beat them in their own game and I still don't like him of what he did in the 2004 NFL Draft but he earn some of my respect as a player in the NFL
Scarletbull I'm not mad or bitter that he want to play for the Giants over the Chargers now but I still don't like him of what he did in the 2004 NFL Draft
Losing to this team twice and watching them win the SBs I couldn't help but think we had a good shot at both of those games as well. Hope this 9er team doesn't get lost to history as well because they were built from scratch from losing horribly during that mid 2000's stretch. A lot of those players came from those bad teams and stuck around it was cool to see them finally winning.
That's my QB. Eli was the man and took a beating this game. Huge respect to Alex smith too. Brother is underrated as hell and has been one of the best qbs in the league for a while

And "he" only won on a muffed punt return. SMH
These 49ers lost to the eventual super bowl champs on a single play 3 straight years. Damn.
Eric Ruiz shit still stings, I swear Harbaugh is cursed, look at the way he lost in Michigan too lol.
Could never get over the hump .
Man now this 2019-20 season all 3 games they lost were on the last play of the game too
Damn
@First Name Last Name
Shouldn't have mattered. It's more about their offense being unable to hold on to the ball. When you keep handing the ball back it makes the pass rushers tired and run out of tricks defensively so eventually a good QB will break through. If you possess the ball at all that doesn't happen
This was undoubtedly the most physical football game I ever watched
man, watching this all these years later make me love eli manning even more. dude was tough as nails and got the job done. i miss him
I remember watching this game like it was yesterday. Damn, I miss our old o-line. #NYG4LIFE #GiantsPride #IBelieveInEli
I'm going to miss Cruz I hope he has a great future!!!
I remember watching this game. Eli Manning took a beating this game , I've never seen anything like it . What a legend g men !!!??!
One of the best nfc games I’ve seen ever
The 49ers and the Giants have a nasty little playoff rivalry going back to the 80s. I love it.
i just realized the conference championship losers in 2011 played each other in the superbowl the following year
Yeah i noticed that
Just like 1995. Steelers and cowboys played in super bowl 30 the year after losing the conference championships.
John and Jim lost heartbreakers this season but got the wins the following year
Giants-49ers has been an epic underrated rivalry since the 1980s.
Man as a kid I grew up in a 49ers household but always supported the Giants. Had a terrible relationship with my father and this was the year I finally left his house. This game meant so much to me.
How is Kyle Williams going to say “are you kidding me?” When the correct call was made after the replay?
They only gave up 14ppg in 4 games vs arguably the 3 top offenses in Atlanta, G.B. , And Patriots during that championship run!
Miss Harbaugh😭😭😭😭
I miss willis and bowman
*Mr.
😢
Harbaugh screwed himself by getting rid of smith for Kap. Shouldnt have sold out for the mobile QB
@@JohnGoetzGaming unfortunately you’re wrong cause the results proved him right, he made it to the Super Bowl with Kap not Alex. The facts don’t care about your feelings..
This Fox scoreboard was easily the best
As a die hard 49er fan, this game proves so much about Eli & his teams. Much respect.
We should have won this shows that the nfl is a script
@jaydenoliver9733 stop crying Niners didn't convert a 3rd down till the 4th quarter and they couldn't stop Cruz in the first half I can go on and on
This was such a great ending, seeing Victor Cruz party on the field afterwards, and then doing the Salsa against the Patriots in the Super Bowl
as a niners fan, I’ll never recover from this. Love you tho Eli
Respect, montana was great with niners/simms with my team, won’t see those days again
Best game Eli has ever played. Gutsy as hell , will never get old... not sure how you leave him out of the HOF!
The two best Giants NFC title games? Both against the Niners. These two teams were just so good.
Makes my miserable pandemic quarantining happy for a few minutes. Thank you 2011 Giants and RUclips!
One of the best games I've seen.
Anyone that doesn't think Eli is a Hall of Famer, watch this full game. Highlights don't do it justice, he got killed physically by SF and kept coming up. Best game of his career IMHO
Alex Smith days were painful. Always struggled to get a touchdown.
I’m a 49ers fan and this game still haunts me😕
Huge heartbreak for my Niners, we're used to that in SF. But this truly was a game for the ages.
What a run that year, seemed like it was destiny.
More like rigged
@@richardflores4052 found the Brady stan
@@richardflores4052 get over it eli is Bradys father
@@richardflores4052 eli owns Brady
These two defenses were massive. Such a great game. That SF team was so good. Shame they always fell short. And people forget in 2011 Eli was the 2nd best an in the league.
Vernon Davis was so freaking fast then
Vernon was a Top 5 tight end at this time, the hit by Chancellor a couple years later really messed him up
man i mis the old 49ers
by the looks of it they'll be damn good next season so don't worry
Lukas Claes Lol
By the looks of it they'll be damn good next season.
@Walter White fucked by injuries
they’re pretty damn good now..
I’m a 49er fan for life but damn Eli is one tough SOB!
This right here is why Eli is in the HOF
Watched this in Afg great memory of that deployment brought some sunshine to me. GO G-MEN BIG BLUE!
Thank you Eli for all the memories!
Giants made History this year. 1st time to finish 9-7 and win the Superbowl. Great to have witness this. It will be awhile before this happens again.
One of elis best seasons. He carried them! All season their D was bottom of league, their running game bottom
Of the league.
Is the algorithm trying to foreshadow a rematch??? Hmmm
The best highlights team the NFL Network ever had was Rich Eisen, Michael Irvin, Deon Sanders and Steve Mariucci. I loved listening to them comment on games.
Yea they were great, Eisen was a great highlight guy.
This was one of the best playoff games I watched ever.
We blame Williams but Alex Smith had plenty of opportunities to set up the team for atleast a Field Goal -_-
this is when nfl network was at its best. this crew was perfect
Back then was some grown man playing 💪🏽
This was revenge for what happened in 2002
Bummer
Just like 2007, underdogs all the way (2011 beat Falcons 10-6; Packers 15-1; Niners 13-3; Patriots 13-3). Say what you will about an Eli-lead Giants team, they sure knew how to win when it mattered.
An epic game. Another Eli classic
I used to consider Elisha Manning as a overrated QB in the NFL because he play in NYC the media capital of the world until the 2011 NFC Championship Game against the 49ers when he took a lot of those hard ass hits and he beat them in their own game and I still don't like him of what he did in the 2004 NFL Draft but he earn some of my respect as a player in the NFL
buster60341 Put some RESPEK on his name. All 🌲 of y’all. And I ain’t gon’ say it no mo’! 😑
Scarletbull I'm not mad or bitter that he want to play for the Giants over the Chargers now but I still don't like him of what he did in the 2004 NFL Draft
buster60341 hes a system qb like bracy
@@dongf5628 system qbs or not they still have their respective places in nfl history
Eli took a beating I was stunned he was still playing
Rich eisen, Michael Irvin, Steve Mariucci, and prime. It’s always so much fun to listen to. Great memories
God o'mighty I was getting stressed watching it 6 years later. One of the best Giants games ever.
I flew out to SF...most intense game I've ever been to.
Bear pascoe
It's amazing how so many breaks went against the Niners that day, not just Kyle Williams
except the Bradshaw fumble
this was an insane game, still, remember when i was like 9 watching this
Losing to this team twice and watching them win the SBs I couldn't help but think we had a good shot at both of those games as well. Hope this 9er team doesn't get lost to history as well because they were built from scratch from losing horribly during that mid 2000's stretch. A lot of those players came from those bad teams and stuck around it was cool to see them finally winning.
Still hurts to this day
That's my QB. Eli was the man and took a beating this game. Huge respect to Alex smith too. Brother is underrated as hell and has been one of the best qbs in the league for a while
Wow. Out of all the games, I just never watched this highlight. Me and my brother went to this game sitting all the way by the field. We dominated this game. I was so sad when williams didn’t recover the ball.
So many legendary SF-NY games over the years!
