Anzac Caramel Slice

  • I hope you enjoy today's video Anzac Caramel Slice.
    Here is the recipe
    Anzac Caramel Slice
    225g of softened butter
    1/2 cup of brown sugar
    1 tsp vanilla essence
    beat the above ingredients until light and fluffy
    add
    2 cups of plain flour
    1 cup of rolled quick oats
    1/2 cup of coconut
    1 Tbsp of Golden Syrup
    mix together until combined
    You might like to use clean hands
    Caramel
    1 tin (395g) of condensed milk
    50g butter
    3 Tbsp of Golden Syrup
    In a saucepan heat until the butter melts. Stirring at all times
    Take 3/4 of the base mix and place it into a 19x19 cm pan lined with paper.
    pour the heated caramel over the base.
    with the remaining 1/4 base put the rest over the top of the caramel.
    Bake at 180c for 30-35 minutes until the caramel sets.

      We will remember them, on a very rare occasion that my grandad, who was a sheep & dairy farmer from Norsewood shared a recollection of his time that he served in the long range desert group during ww2 was that the boys couldn't wait to get home and eat freshly baked biscuits of all kinds after months of eating the same rock hard flavor that they were issued with

    Veteran's Day in the US....Remembrance Day in Canada....and now I have learned about Anzac Day. Thank you for your tribute to veterans!

      We also have Remembrance Day but ANZAC Day has much more importance in Australia. We normally attend dawn service which is followed by a gunfire breakfast. I also watch the dawn services at Gallipoli (Turkey) followed by the service at Villers-Bretonneux (France) on TV. Then I usually make ANZAC biscuits but I just might make this slice as well this year.

    Stacey you're on holidays and you're bringing us this amazing slice..... thank you, thank you, thank you. Anzac biscuits AND caramel slice, now this is a mash up I am 100% behind. Its funny i remember golden syrup coming in tins when i was a kid and the lid always used to stick after a while and you'd have to run it under hot water to melt it to open. Good times!!     I've noticed you use a fair bit of sweetened condensed milk. This recipe is an excellent copy to make, also much cheaper.
    Sweetened Condensed Milk
    By Paula Deen
    Difficulty: Easy
    Prep time: 10 minutes
    Servings: 10
    Ingredients
    • 1/3 cup boiling water
    • 4 tablespoons softened butter
    • 3/4 cup sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 1 cup powdered milk
    Directions
    Using an electric mixer or thermo mixer, blend together water, butter, sugar and vanilla until butter is melted and sugar dissolved.
    Add powdered milk and blend until thick. Store in refrigerator for up to 1 week.
    Makes 14 oz. (1 tin.)

    Another great video, both my young adult kids are currently in Australia and this will be their first ANZAC day which also falls on my daughters birthday. It’s fabulous to have bonds with our Commonwealth cousins so far away. Love from Lizzie in the UK.

    I always like to make ANZAC biscuits normal to commemorate our Aussies and NZers that fought so hard for us...but i love the twist in this with this slice looks delicious and perfect with a cuppa. My birthday is the 26th so my husband might make this for me as i always get something delicious made by h for my birthday ❤️thank you Stacey 🇦🇺🇳🇿

    I am sure your slice will be fine. I made a chocolate coconut slice once and as I took it out of the oven I realised I hadn't put sugar in it 😂 so I grabbed a fork while it was still hot and Brock it back into my bowl and added the sugar with a little more melted butter and re- cooked. It turned out the best one Id ever made. Your is out of your oven and it looks amazing.

    I realised about 5 seconds before you did, and was just wondering if i had missed you putting in the coconut! I'm off to make this now, as it is Anzac Day! Edit. Made it and everyone loved it. One person said it was the best caramel slice they had ever had! Many thanks from Australia!

    Just joined the channel been watching for a little while. This is my first Kiwi channel being a fellow Kiwi myself. I love how you don't edit your mistakes out. That is precious. I'm stoked to support your channel fellow New Zealander and I appreciate your work in the kitchen. This is practical, no fuss, down-2-earth Kiwi favourites.
    One thing, bit of technical support, I think the white balance on your camera needs looking at? It would make for a richer picture. Looks slightly washed out & maybe add a tiny bit more of prep process. Otherwise everything else is great!👍❤️ Definitely going to try this recipe....love a good slice and love Anzac biscuits.

    I had to try this one. I can't find golden syrup in the US so I used your video to make some.
    This was excellent. Made a second batch (bigger batch) and took it to work to share with my co-workers. It was a hit.🤩

    I have been making this slice for the past 3 years at work. It is very popular. We call it Oaty caramel slice. But you could definitely call it an Anzac slice as its the same ingredients as Anzac biscuits 😊

    I love a good ANZAC biscuit, will have to look at your recipe. A friend of mine makes ginger slice but with anzac biscuit base and that's yum.
    Hope you have a safe drive home! Imagine the grandkids are loving you being there (can't imagine that slice lasted long :D).

    That looks so easy and tasty, Stacy! ...thanks for snaring. I have made the Anzac biscuits before and everyone enjoyed it. I'm sure this will be much better and get to use up the oats in my pantry. Btw i am from Malaysia but i will think of all the brave soilders who sacrificed their lives for their countries.
