    Always the best. I am a retired Ford dealer mechanic, I wish I had a guy like this training me in the 1970's.

      Joe SC ever dealt with a Ford five hundred. It stalls when I first turn it on. It will stall 5 or 6 times in the driveway but after it warms up, it doesn't do it anymore. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    This worked fantastically. My hesitation was caused from a very small seating problem when the air filter was changed properly. Just reseated it and the hesitation vanished. Cheapest fix I've ever done! Thank you.

    This is my 1st go at something mechanical & how lucky am I to find you so quickly! Everything you explained is what's going on with my ford!     My car was hesitating during acceleration. No check engine light. First they thought it was a vacuum leak so the "fixed" that but it was still hesitating. Dropped it off at the mechanic again today. It was a bad coil. Running great now!

    I have a crack in my air box (the size of a penny ) i took it to ford paid $700 they didn't even change that they said my gasket was leaking and my car still pulling . The wrench and engine light on and it's hesitation

    My Ford Ranger 2003 model is jerking when I try and hold any speed under 80km/h
    It only jerks when I hold a certain speed. But if I increase my speed to anything above 80km/h (90km/h - 180km/h) it doesn't go through the jerking process.
    Everytime it's about to jerk it switches on the glow plug light but if I switch off the car and start it again, somehow that glow plug disappears and the car drives normally.
    Please help me by giving me possible solutions. I have already changed the speed sensor and airflow sensor and air filter and throttle sensor.

    Just had this problem on my Escape V6 (Same car), fixed it by changing 2 faulty ignition coils and all the 6 spark plugs, on top of that they also cleaned the MAF sensor and flushed out the air intake system. Now the car runs very well.

    Great tip. It's too easy to think you have a major problem, when it's a dirty mass airflow sensor, or the other simple things he pointed out in the video. As insurance, since you're already under the hood, check to be sure all the wires involved look good and that the sockets and pins on the connector to the throttle body are clean, and the connector is properly connected to the throttle body and locked in place.

      f250 6.7L will get ya wih the maf sensor and the MAP sensor. Gets a little soot in it and it jacks your ride all up[\

    Hello FordTech Makuloco. I have a 2005 Ford Expedition, 5.4 L V8. The issue I'm having is that during acceleration, it surges! The RPMs will surge, until you reach about 60 mph. Then is evens out. The only way to combat this issue, is by taking the over drive off. As you would do, when climbing steep inclines. But, I know you don't want to do that all the time, as it burns more fuel.
    Now, the mass air flow sensor has been cleaned, as I've taken your advice, in a prior video. Also, the fuel rail pressure sensor, has been replaced. The fuel filter has been replaced as well. But it still surges, during acceleration, before reaching about 60 mph.
    Can you help me with this issue? Thank you.

      I have a 92 ford f250 custom 5.0 5speed duel tanks it cranks and run fine for a little while and then it starts popping loses acceleration and dies won't crank back wait awhile and cranks back may run an hour or maybe 10 mins it does it driving down the road but it will set an run for 3 hours in the driveway I don't understand can you help me please I need this truck for work

    my 2005 expedition 5.4 seems to run sluggish when temps outside reach over 90 degrees, is there a reason? in cold weather, it runs perfect.

    I think what you should have said at the end is, the newer vehicles are absolute garbage (especially Fords) and you'd be far better off completely rebuilding a vehicle from the 1970s or earlier.
    You certainly gave me a lot more reasons to do just that.

    Ill be checking this in the morning. My old 5.4 triton runs great but just started feeling like its missing or bucking on acceleration out if nowhere. Hoping its simple before I really start trouble shooting.

    I have been trying to figure out why my truck was hesitating and saw this video and exactly what you described was wrong with my truck. Someone (either oil change guys or emissions check guys) did not reinstall the clips and the wiring harness cap was not correctly installed. Fixed my problem and saved me a lot of time and dollars. THANKS!

    Great video, very informative, as always. Just want to share something, this happened to my truck after an air filter change, went to neighborhood Auto Zone, guess they don't carry Fram anymore, so I bought what they had in a blue box, can't remember the brand, truck started hesitating to start right away, took me a couple of days to figure it out, got old Fram filter out of the trash, shook it real good and put it back on, PROBLEM SOLVED!! Fram or Motorcraft only from now on.

    I've got an 09 F-150 w/ a 4.6 3 valve. I've had mild hesitation for during hard acceleration for a while now, but never a check engine light. Can the MAF sensor give you problems without causing a CEL?

    Good video. I’m having hesitation issues on a 99 work van with the 5.4 but only during the driving rain. All other times it runs fine...Seems like an air flow issue to me, I’ll take a close look at the intake components as described in video. Thx.

    When I worked for Ford I had a Ranger come in with a crank, no start. I found a cheap air filter had sagged and a bee 🐝 got in (don’t know if it flew in alive or was sucked in dead). It got hung up on the hot wire of the MAF sensor. I removed it. Cleaned the wire. Engine started up strong.

    Mine is more of a stutter when it's given throttle, especially if I'm going up a hill or the engine is already under a burden. It still accelerates but not like it should. Any thoughts?

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This was the exact cause of my vehicle hesitation. The air box had broken clips on the MAF side allowing air to be sucked in creating the turbulence. Clamping this area down now has the engine running smooth at ideal and NO HESITATION ANYMORE on takeoff such as a red light. Thanks again. Great information...

    I have found over many years of professionally wrenching on cars, that these style of air boxes with the tabs on one side and retainer clips on the other side, a light coating of silicone on the air filter seal helps in putting things together easier ( be careful not to overdue it as too much if a good thing could he bad for the MAF). I am a GM owner and mechanic for almost 40 years and enjoy your videos as they are spot on for cause and effect of problems as well as repairs. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.

      Don't use silicone on the intake system of your computer controlled vehicle. Even a small amount can create havoc with the o2 sensors and the catalytic converters. That pennies worth of silicone can cost you thousands in replacement of your exhaust system parts.

    So what if you only get this hesitation upon take-off while the motor is still cold? Like... usually not the first acceleration from park, but the 2nd acceleration from the stop sign at the end of the street... and then never does it again after warmed up to normal running temp... until it's sat and cooled over for a few hours. I'd assume a gasket heats and seals a leak... but I've never smelled exhaust, and it doesn't run or start poorly... just one hesitation on take off per drive. Intake gasket?

    Hi I watch your channel I wish you were local this problem Im having on a 2008 f250 v-10 with 60,000 I have unintended acceleration I almost been in accident on this problem ford can’t duplicate this flaw I know it defect problems with ford I changed the foot sensor and pedal all came together. OEM also changed the throttle body with the two sensors on there came with it. Oem I also disconnect the neck negative battery and did the relearn procedure. Any suggestions where I should look or should I only follow up with the recall because there is no recall on this particular year but other vehicles that I’ve seen and they’ve had the same problem have the same motor same drive-by wire system it’s very scary as I use it to go drivemy RV when we go camping and you put your foot on the break real hard when you come to stop because when it starts to rev up, I’m saying 0 to 60 I have to cycle the key off about five times before it goes back to normal then I’ll wait about for three or four days later. The same thing will happen. I’ve had the truck for over six years maybe seven years time to go camping, I was hoping a light would come on, the only feedback I get from anybody is don’t drive it any input much appreciated and thanks a lot for your channels. They’re very educational.

    I have a 2003 e350 5.4L Super duty that stutters and has acceleration problems running with a lean condition. I checked the whole fuel system for the most part. What else should I be checking. I also have a video of it running if you are okay getting in contact with me and giving me quick advice because its been a pain in my ass I haven't been able to solve for a few years now and I do all my own work and certainly can't afford to take it to a mechanic.     So I have an 07. I know after 04 until 10. They had basically the same setup. My truck had no lights on the dash and runs and drives fine. Just you try to give it any sort of pep or press the gass sort of hard it hesitates hard. Like if I am going 30 and press it I’ll get to 35 then that’s it. It does not like the gas pedal. It’s within the last two weeks had new manifolds and frame repair along with a whole new exhaust system and brake system. I know my shit pretty well and I cannot figure out what else would cause this. The only thing is the cat hasn’t been replaced. And when I step on it I hear a loud rattle. Sounds like the cat has been blown apart. But would have thought when they did the exhaust they would have caught it and replaced it so not sure now? Just dumped 2k for manifolds and exhaust so not too interested in dumping another 2k into it please let me know

    99 super duty v10 automatic. Runs great. Drives fine until you give it medium to wide open throttle. The revs jump up to avout 3k and bounce off that limit and feels like the trans disengages. No acceleration.
    Is this a limp mode? Or is it the trans slipping?

    my car sometimes jerks back and forth ive had the coil replaced, plugs leads distributor cap replaced it still does it i wonder if its this problem that your talking about everytime i take it to mechanic there not sure what it is.

      I'm experiencing the samething my 2007 expedition jerks on speeds 20 to 45mph and stops if ur not pressing the gas.. changed coil packs and spark plugs.. I was told it was tires or struts.. but observing the expedition when this is going on the rpm seem to have an slight effect when the jerking goes on the rpm jumps up a lil..

    I have a 2005 Ford expedition when I prepare to take off its sluggish then makes a popping noise then gradually picks up speed but when I come to a complete stop and then try to accelerate pressing the gas it starts to accelerate very slow and makes a popping noise again and gradually builds up speed please anyone any ideas what’s going on

    Great video. I took my F150 into Hibdon Tires yesterday for a couple tires and I thought, what the hell, I'll get them to change my oil as well. When I picked it up, I noticed my check engine light was on, my tow haul was activated and my AC was turned down and blowing at top speed. When I took off, I felt the hesitation, just like you explain it. I went out and checked my truck soon after seeing this video and sure enough those A HOLES forgot to set my air filter cover back on right and tight. Thanks.

    I just got a '94 f150 5.0 flare side on the outside it looks awesome but it has some very weird problems normally I'm pretty good at figuring out what's wrong but this one has me stumped . The mass air flow sensor was broke when I first bought it when you would hook it up it would make it run very bad so I drove it without the mass air flow sensor hooked up but then today I finally got a new one and it made the check engine light go off but when it heats up it just turns off , when I first hooked up the mass air flow sensor the check engine light went off and I drove it around I thought it was fixed then after I let it sit there for a while it just shut off I was hoping it was going to fix the up and down idle it had but it didn't I think it might have something to do with my fuel filter I just really don't want to have to drop the tank. Somebody took out the back fuel tank on it and I was thinking that's why the fuel gauge did not work but I'm starting to think that it needs a new fuel pump and filter by the way it's just shutting off I've already dumped $500 into this damn thing trying to fix this and that and nothing is working That's my last thing I'm going to do if that don't fix it I'm done lol it's a nice truck ,I'm just over it though

    I think I need a new pcv valve, 06 explorer, just changed plugs, wires, egr, battery, air filter and tps connector. Truck was running fine until yesterday, started stalling and wont idle, I have to rev it to keep it going and when I slow down it dies. Any ideas?

    SOS: I have a 2005 mustang GT automatic that has a habit of stalling after it's been driven for a good hour or so in 80 degree (or hotter) weather. It'll sit until it cools off and then it'll start back up only to shut down within five minutes of driving; also, I notice that when I wiggle fuses in the fusebox it'll usually start back up as well. I've replaced the starter solenoid, starter ignition switch, MAF sensor, ECU and the alternator. Code readers can't seem to get a reading of the vehicle..PLEASE help!! Thank you.

    great tip. i ran into this looking for Ign timing help. maybe you can help. 96 Gt 4.6 mustang runs smooth and peppy but with poor gas mileage. best ever highway was 20mph even. with Torque App i realized my timing never goes above 28 deg. should hit a number in the 40s and that will change mileage. also it shifts to firm while normal driving and that tells me Eng load to throttle is out of sync. Im 70 but not helpless with this stuff but if i was talking to another old guy like me Id say the Vacuum advance is disconnected but of course it doesn't have one so im trying to track down what has taken its place on the my cool /mustang. Thanks for your time. Ps. no codes. i cleaned the Air flow, new exh. , cold air intake, plugs and 0 change.

      ZR1Terror ever fix it I have same problem if I floor it P0300 code check engine flashes then goes away after 5 minutes I’m used to a Dodge Ram Hemi that’s older with way more power and never turns any check engine lights on in my opinions these fords motors are weak and should be owned by grandpas if you haven’t driven a Hemi I feel bad for you but I love the power and worth the gas

    Is jerking really bad after 20 to 25 minutes drive & and it does more when i going between 30 to 50 miles an hour. I flushed the transmission put new fluids new coil pack there is no engine light on if anybody can help what can be wrong with it?

    Hey I have a Ford 150 5.4 it get stuck at 2 rpm but I’m still pushing the gas but If I floor it and it will catch and go past 3rpm and pick up speed I have no codes just ruff at idle but not very bad any tips?

    I have a 2013 F-150 3.5 and it goes into limp mode randomly but doesn’t set a code when I pull over shut it down it restarts and goes an undetermined time. Have done a video on this problem yet?

      Mainly reduced power and maybe a lower BARO frequency and skewed fuel trims.

    Just today, I found a cheap crap air filter like that one, except this one did not have the screen and it actually collapsed and fell down in the box which left the lid so lose that the clips fell down. I replaced it with a good filter and cleaned the MAFS with CRC. This was on a 2.3 and now first gear works like you would expert. Thanks for everything that you do to help everyone.

    I'm lost. You talked about air coming in through the intake hose causing problems? Huh ? What? It's coming in before the MAF sensor so shouldn't it still be measured? Part two of my confusion, shouldn't air coming in unfiltered be a concern. If it's coming in above or around the filter then it's bringing dirt with it......isn't that an issue?

      You want laminar flow not the turbulent flow caused by air coming in from unexpected cracks. He talked about how the swirl of turbulent flow throws off the MAF sensor. Unfiltered air is much less of an issue than the PCM receiving faulty readings.

    OMG this video was a life saver. Saved my daughter in laws and my ford expedtions. Hers would start then shut down. Mine had a surg at take off. Ok I took my mass flow sencer off mine and put it on hers the truck started and ran but then had the surge. So after watching this video I looked that both of them closer. Lol hers had a spider in it and mine had one of the prongs smashed in it. So took spider out and straightened mine out and both are running perfect. Just to show everything happens for a reason...Thanks again...

    my 2012 f150 3.5 now and then after a warm start will fall flat on it's face and act as if it's got no air or fuel pressure. usually no codes at all. a P00C6 came up then then we cleared it to see if it would come back. A P0087 code came and now no codes. could this issue cause these codes?

    My truck a 04 f250 is doing this thing where if I ease into an acceleration it's fine but if I step on throttle too say get on freeway or to pass a vehicle it sounds like the truck starts coughing or bouncing off rev limiter at only 3 grand. Only happens for about 3 seconds then fine again.

    Hey! My 05 f150 4.6L is running pretty rough with misfires at idle and stalling when decelerating. I have lots of codes (EGR Valve, Mass Airflow Censor, too lean.. etc). My mechanic ran diagnostics and all of the electrical is reading good. He is thinking one of the exhaust ports in the intake could be clogged. Do you have any ideas?

    1998 light never been out, 5.4 been dealing with no power on hills, crappy start,s crappy take off, anytime you hit the throttle it bogs and chokes, changed every dam thing on it you. Can, and cleaned the shitty does intake , still a pile of shit now it doesn’t even start and stay running, ford engineers should have their teeth kicked in send me one of the bitches, please.

    I have a 2003 Ford Focus and I keep getting engine misfires (P0302) and often rough on acceleration from a stop. One time the car just decelerated on highway (only once, engine still ran OD off - checked transmission and it’s fine). Plugs, wires, and cylinders all good. What should I try next? So sorry to ask the question, but I’m on a tight budget and am doing it myself. I already took it to one mechanic for diagnostics and they couldn’t find anything! A weak spark one time the whole day.

      Brenna Did you ever figure it out? I’m having the same issue. I’ve replaced basically everything sensor wise at this point including the throttle body & coils due to misfire codes, & rechecked everything several times. Still no luck.

    I have 05 explorer 4.0 and on startup sometimes it will chug and die other times it will be fine also when driving sometimes it will die and start back up on its own codes say maf sensor and fuel rail lean does anyone have any idea of what the actual issue is?

    I have a 2012 ford fusion se and the car has been jerking it has oil and transmission fluid before I added transmission fluid it didnt have any in it
    When it rains while I drive it or I drive it anytime of day it still jerks like it dont wanna move.

    Great video, I have an 01 lincoln town car that hesitates after its on the road at any speed. I've checked the air filter seating and everything is good. Only code I'm getting that cannot be cleared is P1633 low voltage. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Loved the praise and worship in the background, and thanks again!

    the oil change place did that to my car they call themselves checking my filter trying to upcharge me but didnt close it all the way after i declined a 26$ filter when theyre 6$ at the store

    4:00-5:02 Was really helpful in understanding how it might just be an issue as simple as a loose airbox cover. I paused and checked the car.. sure enough, the hose had come loose from the airbox. Thank you!
