Titanic arrives in Queenstown, Ireland (now Cobh), picks up a large group of passengers, then turns back out to the open sea, heading for New York City.
The THG guys are the only guys I trust to get my weekly lessons about Titanic. Very well researched without click bait titles like "TOP 100 (obvious) FACTS ABOUT TITANIC YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT!!1" :p
The Titanic H&G team are the new generation of Titanic historians. I grew up with Ken Marschall, Don Lynch, etc as THE Titanic historians. It’s nice to see the torch being passed in away to another generation while still collaborating with the older historians. I consider THG to be the leading Titanic experts. I don’t think their are any other people who know as much about the ship!
1:50 that crewman who jumped ship at Queenstown was John Coffey. He claimed he was scared of this particular ship and voyage, not sailing the ocean itself. He later signed onto the Mauretania.
This is pretty unique: the manner in which you guys actually explain what would have happened during Titanic's maiden voyage on each actual day it happened! It's like a small snippet of history being presented LIVE! In a sense, you (Tom, Kyle and Matt and the rest of the TH&G team) have seen my work as well... .... I'm the one who did the survivor portraits that Zeno recently received via email. I can't tell you how much you guys are making a cherished piece of history come true in the recreation of Titanic and her historic journey! I am sure that I echo a lot of other fans out here when I express my sincere gratitude in what you all are doing! I just hope that my computer will be able to enable me to sail on the 'Ship of Dreams!'
Queenstown is where Francis Browne departed and took the last photographs of Titanic. As Tom explains in the "Miracles of the Titanic" Podcast, this ultimately saved his life and the photographs he took.
Hi from Ireland. Yes it's pronounced "illan". Uillean pipes are not blown like bagpipes. The bellows is operated by moving the elbow. Great clips by the way!
2:57 That was passengers complaining of the scent of fresh paint and varnish stinking their cabins out. On a side note, Titanic was never actually finished. The extensive delays to her construction caused by Olympic's mishaps meant she sailed with some of her First and Second class accommodation incomplete.
Uileann Pipes... Elbow pipes, translated. I think it's pronounced something close to "Illan pipes" or "Illian pipes", but I wouldn't take any bet on that. They have those in my favourite band, which unfortunately keeps getting abused for Titanic videos, or at least did for some time...
2:36 While that was happening, a man by the name of Jack Dawson stood on the bow with his friend Fabrizio who said he could already see the Statue of Liberty. Dawson then shouted "I'm the king of the world!" 😆
The Man that got off the Titanic at Queenstown (now known as Cobh, pronounced as Cove in Cork, Ireland) must have had an omen. Because as you've said he saved his life before tragedy was about to occur.
This Is my home town. Queenstown is its previous name. Today it is named Cobh, pronounced COVE. The harbour is recognised as the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world after Sidney. One map I have seen in a pub in the town, Ryans, showed a illustration of the entire British fleet, at that time, accommodated within the natural perimeters. I enjoyed the video and wish it well....
I never get tired of the titanics history. It’s too bad the Britannic couldn’t be raised it’s in relatively shallow water. It would be an incredible achievement as a museum attraction. I know the water simulation isn’t the final product. I watched a video on world of warships on the battleship Massachusetts. The water simulation looked amazingly real. Thanks for your dedication to this amazing project.
They've been developing a game that allows you to explore the Titanic as a fictional passenger. A heck of a lot of research has gone into it, so they've got a ton of knowledge to share now.
Uilleann pipes are pronounced “Illen pipes”. Roughly translates as elbow pipes because you play them with a bellows under your arm rather than blowing into them like bagpipes. They’re also smaller than bagpipes with a sweeter sound.
Great job! You should include these videos as "special features" to the game! ALSO: I was wondering whether you would ever consider using your game for research purposes. There were many conflicting accounts of Titanic's last moments. Could you map these out? It would be great to see the wreckage from the perspective of each survivor (with their accompanying testimony). That might help explain why there is some differences from their testimony in accordance to their individual perspective. Some survivors were in lifeboats far from the ship. Some were in lifeboats on the port side while others were on the starboard or slightly aft. Others were on different parts of the boat or in the water. This might explain why some thought that the boat did not break up while others indicated (as we learned was correct) that it did. One person even indicated that Titanic broke up in THREE places (which is a theory currently being analyzed by some people). The ability through this game to "see" the Titanic from different places in real-time would be significant in explaining the conflicting points of testimony.
I am such a big titanic fan I’ve been following its path like if it were sailing today currently in the United States it is 4:15 PM so that means the Titanic is on his way to New York
Nice job once again! Had no idea that Titanic did some extra sailing practice while out at sea, so that's neat. Quick question, as I've seen this in pictures quite a bit: did Olympic and Titanic ever meet and pass each other before?
It's pronounced "illin'." The difference is the Scottish pipes are played standing up and the bag is filled by your breath. With uilleann pipes, the bag is filled with air from a bellows operated by the player's elbow and the pipes are played while seated.
We need a simulation of Titanic anchored and the two tenders ps America and Ireland shipping passengers to the ship . Do you think you guys could do that for the upcoming anniversary ?
The crewmen who jumped off at Queenstown would have been firemen John Goffey. There was no logical reason why Goffey jumped ship there as I believe he lived in Southampton, and these workers where in need of work, so something odd was going on there.
@@TitanicHG thanks so much I'll definitely check it out. Your whole channek helped me rediscover my love and passion for everything to do with the ship and edwardian period.
I mentioned this in a comment here somewhere. Some passengers complained heavily about the strong smell of fresh paint and varnish making their accommodation uncomfortable. Others just found them to not to be up to their high standards.
Do we know why the complaints of second class passengers accommodations? I was thinking because many had paid for first class on other ships and had been downgraded to 2nd class, but weren’t the accommodations to second class just as nice as first class on other ships ?
One passenger complained that her cabin was too small, so she was transferred to another. One passenger said he wasn't satisfied in Second, so he paid to move into First. A handful of others complained that the heating didn't work properly.
Titanic: Honor And Glory Thank you kindly for taking the time and answering my question. I’ve always been so drawn to the standard accommodations of first and second. Every museum or excerpt on first cabin accommodations show the suites, which frustrates me because that doesn’t really represent the majority of accommodations the passengers had. I’ve seen a few pictures of the simplest 1st class cabins and I’m excited to see them come alive again in rich colors and real ness because of all the valiant efforts you all have put in. Your project is the most thorough visual representation the world has had of Titanic in the last 107 years, second only to the ship herself. Well done gentlemen.
2,228 is what the ship's manifest said and that includes those who departed in France and Ireland. I doubt we will ever know the exact number of people aboard when she sank since some of the listed passengers and crew had already left the ship or hadn't turned up on sailing day at all. The Titanic is 8 hours 45 out to sea now (at time of post)
It's now April 11th 2020 3:04 pm the Titanic would be set to full ahead and out to sea and by night fall land would have vanished beyond the horizon.
Amazing wake photograph. I have never seen this picture before. Very neat!
Neither have I: still learning something new about this ship every day!

Sounds like the Airline attendant that quit by pulling the emergency ramp, grabbing two beers and sliding down and basically said peace 😂
When and where did that happen?
Oh gosh, I miss Tom's Titanic week.
