Really? When I went to the Titanic museum in Branson, that was one of the first things the museum guide told us. Besides, it's not like that's a bad thing: In 1912, linoleum was new and novel, and considered a luxury! The whole group had a good chuckle over it.
@@rootbeerconnoisseur6104 i don’t get why they say that. linoleum was invented in the 1860s, was distributed to Europe in the 1880s, and White Star and Harland & Wolff had already been using it on quite a lot of their ships beforehand. it might’ve been a bit on the fancier side, but it certainly wasn’t “new & novel”.
@@DerpyPossum I got the feeling she was one of those people that got into Titanic because of the movie. NTTAWWT, but I've found most film Titanic fans buy into the "Ship of Dreams" fantasy whole hog. That if you explain, like in the video, most rooms were very practically furnished, it messes with their idealized notions that everything in the ship meant for first class was royal palace quality.

Back in 1912, lifeboats were not viewed as lifesavers, but to transport people from a distressed ship to a rescue ship. Also, the British Board of Trade law failed to update the lifeboat law as ships grew bigger. They measured the number of lifeboats based on gross tonnage not the number of passengers
True. Lifeboats are just "ferryboats" from ship to ship, or ship to shore. They aren't designed to survive at sea, and overturn even in mild weather. One ship is supposed to have a lot, the other is too. There'd be more than enough if another ship had arrived in time.
Depending on them to keep you alive for days at sea is an unrealistic expectation.

Thank you for the good quality of Olympic’s interior photos. I’ve seen those photos before, but never in such fine detail. You can see just how much work went into these ships, even to the tiniest detail of decorating.
I hate that Ismay has been treated so poorly by history. Hear me out first.
The dude is literally just hated for not dying. We always talk about how Titanic's lifeboats were not all properly filled and how this led to "unnecessary deaths" yet we get mad at Bruce Ismay for taking an empty seat when there was no one else around to get in. He avoided being another unnecessary death and yet he is hated for it.
Not to mention the fact he was reported by crew members to of helped load the starboard lifeboats and be of assistance "in anyway he could".
Hey there, JAD's MV's, I kind of have to agree here. I believe, again believe being the keyword, that people would have been looking to him to help the people, while the captain was looking to find ways to keep the ship afloat. Ismay had to keep people calm and decided it would be heroic to survive having taken on this particular role. Smith went down since his role was more concrete. Turn the myth upside down and inside out, and you have another view of this historical villain.

To me, Titanic story will always be fascinating. It's such a unique and tragic event and till this day remains one of the greatest maritime disasters in history. I will always remember my first exposure to the ship and her story when I first saw James Cameron's film over a decade ago. Since then, the story of the RMS Titanic has impacted me greatly. I won't ever forget the story nor the 1,496 souls lost on that fateful early morning. I appreciate all that you guys do to keep her story as memorable and accurate as possible and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us. Thank you for everything.
The scene in James Cameron's movie showing Bruce Ismay chatting with Captain Smith about lighting the last boiler so that Titanic would arrive to New York early did not really happen.

@Anon ymous Indeed even though he did use plenty of artistic liberties too (the gates here with which they were deliberately trapped in their decks or the personality of Murdoch being the classical "uninterested and irresponsible man" who arrived drinking tea at the deck when tragedy was to occur, thus igniting many angry responses of Murdoch's relatives or he oversensationalized the personalities of certain characters in the film like the Unsinkable Molly), he still did a really deep research for his movie, plus one needs to know indeed that research in 1996 was way different than research now and certainly much data has been added to this 25 years later. But with all that it counts in regards of research James Cameron takes the cake (despite the cliche plot XD)
@Anon ymous No one said that he is the only one. We are discussing about a well researched film. So the liberties strike worse in an accurate film than a badly made one.
As some researchers say the gates were not locked to deliberately keep people down because they were interested in saving the rich. The gates were already locked to prevent the classes from meeting not locked to keep them down that night.
Murdoch appears in the movie a few seconds before the collision with a tea in his hands. In reality Murdoch was even the first to spot the iceberg as witnesses said in craw's nest the ship was already turning. He never left his post.
Then you are not finding the right comments. Also since when Critisism is wrong at a film? Even historians critisize at each other. Pretend not to see mistakes or not to mention what we didn't like is not really what people like me want to do.
Being a well researched film doesn't make it perfect (there is no perfect film). Even James Cameron himself admitted to his mistakes and signed apologies to people that got offended because of certain liberties he took

Also the testimony Fleet gave also changed that the ship was already turning when he called the Bridge and when Murdoch replied calmly "Thank you" to the phone after he said "Iceberg Right Ahead!" was because Murdoch was already aware of the iceberg and that he had already given the order. If you watch "Titanic Honor and Glory" channel you should have noticed they also support this as being the most logical. Fleet himself admited it. If you think I need to distract you from your point, you are gravely mistaken. I am adding to the fact you said.
Like I said before when a movie is so well-thought, the mistakes are more apparent and people of course will comment on them. For instance if the costumes in Titanic were so accurate taken right out of Vogue magazines of the time of course people will comment on how the makeup was so out of place and it was a totally 1990s. And that was obviously a conscious choice made by Cameron. The same way that it was his conscious choice to make Rose reside in the cabin that was originally Ismey's cabin in real life.
Also people who say the woodwork or stuff was wrong they have every right to do so. I repeat, even James Cameron himself showed regret in many parts of the movie. The movie was created in 1990s. From that point till now there has been even more intense research on the matter and new things were added. What we thought 25 years ago about a historical fact can drastically change.
I believe that YOU are the one who missed MY point. I said that when a movie is so well-thought, mistakes are more noticed. No one is denying things done right. However the things done wrong are often striking worse when the entire movie is so well thought.
Also I believe you talk about a different movie because James Cameron's Titanic was ridiculousliy praised to the point of cringe sometimes.
Just because you keep looking for negative comments that doesn't stop the fact that Titanic was one of the most beloved movies out there even if it was also one of the most cliche ones, in my opinion. People still loved it and people praised it ridiculously much. Just because your attention is more drawn by the critisizing comments that doesn't mean the praising ones are not there.
In fact most of people I know speak only of the historical accuracies of the movie and they love the movie.
@Anon ymous Well in real life it is Murdoch answering the phone as far as I remember. Which if it is true, makes it even worse.
Also the makeup was a hundred per cent inaccurate because in 1910s makeup was supposed to be barely noticeable and barely Rouge to the cheeks. Rose wearing a dark crimson lipstick was not fashionable even in 1920s yet alone to 1910s. That makeup was made to appeal to the audience of the time.
Right back at you. It is of small impritance the name of the magazine. I believe you understand very well what I mean.
Fleet was not just eye whiteness. He was an important factor of the incident and he did mention it that the ship was already turning. And it makes sense because someone should have equally good visual field from the bridge.
Eye witnesses had often controversial testimonies and this is the reason we keep changing the diagrams of the accident even today. I doubt that anyone at that type of situation could positively say with such accuracy how many digrees the ship was leaning. I repeat even James Cameron regrets many things he made in the film because research keeps updating information and that is true. Everything that keeps being added to the research change how we see the events. Lightoller's testimony. Not necessarily his recollection. In tragedies such as that people often testify under strong emotional state and mistakes are often made. Historians do think of that.
So allow me to say this again I am glad that people critisize inaccuracies in the movie. That doesn't deny the work done in the movie. It critisizes the things that James Cameron intentionally or not did inaccurately. That is not a bad thing nor is reducing the research done in the movie. There is no perfect movie.
The fact Titanic has 3 3 bladed propellers blew my mind. I have the 3D printed model and could have sworn it had a central propeller with 4 blades. But almost like the Mandela effect, I looked at it again after watching this video and sure enough, a central propeller of 3 blades. Mind blown.

The Steel of Titanic was solid Steel, and its not sure if the rivets were as weak as told, some were very bad, but its important where the rivet on the ship was. The Steel was tested at 1999 in Titanic: Answers from Abyss and its breaks by Tild from 12 Degrees, a Tild an Pressure she was never designed for.
Any time you post an image of the chandelier of the first class Loungue you can see how gorgeous is this project. It looks absolutely real.

For anyone interested ,visit the White Swan Hotel , Alnwick England, there you will find the Olympics dining room and staircases, wonderfully preserved as near to the feel of Titanic as we can now get. I visited and youre there, down to the leaded windows and musical instruments depicted in the panel over the entrance doors. Very nice staff too, they let me wander around ,photograph and marvel even without being a customer, i was on a day trip and had to find the hotel and return to our coach relatively quickly.
Technically, it’s Olympic’s lounge, not her dining saloon.
Thank you for mentioning the Gusloff. I hadn't heard about that until around 2007 when watching the History Channel (back when it was still historical). It's not an event that gets talked about much, if ever when WWII is mentioned. People are eager to point out the Lusitania in WWI but it doesn't matter who owns the ship, and who torpedoed it. The Soviets sinking the Gusloff is just as much a war crime as Germany sinking the Lusitania.
The Gustloff was carrying military personnel and equipment, and was not a clearly-marked hospital ship. It was thus a legitimate target. The sinking was a tragedy of war, but not a war crime.
I know most of the information presented in the video already but videos like these are amazing for young and new Titanic enthusiasts who are just beginning their Titanic learning journey.
It's far too hard for people to do research even when it's conveniently at their finger tips. That's why people have been claiming Elvis stole songs, like Hound Dog from Big Mama Thornton, but if anyone actually did their homework instead of relied on manufactured ignorance, they would easily discover that Mama Thorton never had rights to the song. It was created by two people who also wrote the other versions for many artists, including Elvis. It was either owned by them or a studio who chose to spread the song out to other singers. The people who claimed he stole it can't even get the song version right so when I see stuff like this happen on the internet, sadly I have little hope in humanity on those days.

2:40 2nd class passenger William Harbeck actually did have a video camera and recorded the departure from Southampton, including the near-collision with SS City of New York. Sadly he and his reels were lost in the sinking

Luckily I was one of the people that saw the movie at 4 yrs old and got interested in the ship and ever since I've done nothing but research the titanic which lead to my interest in ships particularly Ocean liners some examples would be, SS Imperator, RMS Atlantic, or something like Wilhelm Gustloff (I'm 13 by the way)

It would have taken a long time to start making money. For one thing, it was the middle of the great depression. Also at the time it was just an outdated old ship. No one wanted to sail on it because it did not have bathrooms in every cabin.

I have the impression the "biggest ship in the world" trope is part of a Titanic mythology aimed a a morality tale of hubris and nemesis. I wish you would emphasise that the 1000 tons increase in gross tonnage over Olympic was purely cosmetic, and that for practical purposes Titanic was only one of the two largest ships in the world. Clearly, at that time a whole lot of new prestige liners were largest in the world for a year or two, and mostly didn't sink; you mentioned the Imperator/Berengaria, but of course leading up to Titanic there were the Oceanic, the Big Four, the Lusitania and Mauretania, and afterwards the other two big Germans, not to mention the Queens and the Normandie, all of which were far larger and faster than the Titanic.
The increase in tonnages wasn't "purely cosmetic". Olympic was found to have vibration issues while underway, and to avoid this with Titanic parts of the A Deck promenade were enclosed to add rigidity. With this, and also likely due to construction delays, WSL took the time to add the Cafe Parisien since there was now more enclosed space to work with. Eventually a Cafe Parisien was added to Olympic during one of her post Titanic refits along side other structural changes.
Also Titanic had more first class staterooms added as Olympic's original promenade deck plans were found to actually be larger than needed so the decision was made to add rooms to Titanic, and also I misspoke in my earlier comment as the Cafe Parisien was on B Deck, along with these other rooms. one of the ala carte restaurants that was very popular on Olympic was also enlarged on Titanic from the surplus of promenade space. Some of this may seem cosmetic but it adds function to the ship.
Thanks, this is a great video, and even more thanks for definitively squashing three of the stupidest "facts" , specifically the so-called fire, the so-called "switched identities" and the repeated claim that third-class passengers were deliberately locked away during the sinking. I believe that US authorities asked that third-class passengers were kept separate, as so many of them were immigrants, and had to be processed separately from first and second (I apologise if I've got this wrong btw). I am now subscribing!

@@Apatetika Maybe, but I would still consider the split just fore of funnel 3 to be the "main break", as all aft of that section still remained somewhat attached to the stern as it sank.
It split between the second and third funnels.

A documentary found that when researching Titanic that the design specified grade 4 rivets, but the weaker grade 3 rivets were ordered to install on Titanic

We keep on correcting people about third class but I swear no one actually bothers to listen. It’s like they forgot that going to ANY movie for facts is a massive mistake.

Serious question: at 2:53 you said “there are no known photographs of Titanic’s grand staircase”.
What about Father Francis Browne’s photos? I recently went to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge and one of the photos in Browne’s exhibit was one of the Grand Staircase. Moreover, it explicitly said in this particular exhibit that “every photo in this room was taken by Father Browne”. And that without these photos we wouldn’t have any photos of the Titanic with passengers onboard. So I’m a little confused.
The confusion comes in because Browne also sailed aboard Olympic and took photos of the staircase there. So yes, if it wasn't for him, we would have very few interior photos of Titanic, and he did take that photo you saw of a grand staircase. It just wasn't Titanic in that instance.

2 parlor suites and 2 deluxe parlor suites actually, with the 1997 movie showing one of the deluxe suites.

Most likely from Olympic as the H&G team mentioned only official films and pictures from Harland & Wolf featured the differences between the two, and any amateur stuff went down with Titanic.

idea. dive down to the wreck and look in every cabin their might be a photo in a cabin or a suitcase. those photos I do believe are plastic takes 500 years to biodegrade. last time I checked titanic did not sink 500 years ago. you will fined one some day
Given the area the wreck/debris field covers, its likely the evidence you're looking for isn't where you think it is, and you might not be able to locate them. There is also the problem that this is still a grave site, and such an invasive investigation would be seen as unethical, and would also run the risk of damaging the wreck.

Is T.U. channel going away? Is that why you are moving the videos here?
Two theories I have are that one, there was/is a channel with a similar name that is run by some nut who perpetuates false claims like the bunker fire damaging the bulkhead, and the V break theory, and the Honor & Glory team don't want to risk giving him attention. Second is that I do know of creators who had multiple channels but YT at some point automatically merged them into one channel, and this might be happening here.
There's no way the kennel story could be true, right? The ship's dog kennels were all the way down on F Deck, near the third class saloon, so they would've been underwater relatively soon after the sinking. That, or I'm wrong about where the kennels were located.
The kennel was under the number 4 funnel on the boat deck as said at 12:54
@@BNStudios1 To be honest, I don't think that's right. The blueprints of the ship don't mark it as such, and everything under the fourth funnel was either:
A. Not able to be reallocated (such as fans for ventilation), or
B. Much too small to be used as a kennel, such as a closet for storing deck equipment like chairs or games.
@@rootbeerconnoisseur6104 look at the Olympic blueprints. They probably used those for the Titanic since they were sisters. So he kennel is probably in the same location as on the Olympic
@@Truecrimeresearcher224 I disagree, the Olympic and Titanic's blueprints are quite different in many ways, such as the restaurant, the Turkish bath area, and the A-deck promenade. And, why should I look at the prints for the Olympic if I can already see ones of the Titanic?

Due to the fact that Titanic had a much quicker test (then Olympic) to see if she was sea worthy and that Titanic was closed to the public while they finished fitting the interior, their was no time to take pictures of Titanic

Yeah, I wouldn’t quite take everything this guy says as fact, some of this was speculation also. And literally nobody is comparing the titanic disaster to wartime disasters, hence the reason it’s always appropriately labelled as a peacetime disaster.
Even when only speaking of wartime disasters, it feels like the Gusloff doesn't get nearly as much mention as Lusitania. To me it doesn't matter who owned the ship, and who torpedoed it. The Soviets sinking the Gusloff is as much a war crime as Germany sinking Lusitania. Both were loaded with civilians, one with passengers, the other with refugees, and the Gusloff should be brought up more in history. Also as one of my history teachers in college said, it's the generalization of the phrase "biggest disaster ever". In many productions the phrase has been used without the specification of Titanic being a peacetime disaster, and if one is going to be that general with their terminology then they need to account for other incidents.
@@airplanenut89 I’ve always described titanic as a peacetime disaster, and many other people and experts do also, anyway its besides the point, nobody compares and accidental plane crash to 9/11. One is accidental and the other is an act of war, I literally don’t even know what point he’s trying to make and it’s pretty disrespectful If you ask me.
@@dotdots2660 That doesn't chage the fact that the Gustloff was far deadlier than the Titanic. And I don't agree with historians calling the likes of Lusitania or Gustloff a legitimate target regardless of whether they had munitions or military personnels on board or not they're still carrying thousands of civilian. And it's not like the crew of U-20 or S-13 had a clue of who they're firing at

@@dotdots2660 The point he's making is that Titanic has sort of become the standard when it comes to biggest disaster when it actually isn't the biggest, just one the most famous. Other than the Gustloff, they mentioned the Chinese barge that sank with roughly 1600 aboard, then two other liners from around the same time period as Titanic that also had greater loss of life. However despite these, the Titanic is still largely touted as "the biggest disaster in maritime history" by some. It's become so infamous for large disaster that when something goes incredibly wrong in another field, it's called a mistake/error/disaster of Titanic proportions. For example, take 9/11. You could say that it's success for the terrorists was in part the result of a communications failure of Titanic proportions between military, and civilian aviation systems. Or that the military's delayed response was the result of a strategic oversight of Titanic proportions (we didn't give enough consideration to the enemy already being in our borders).
Also no one calls 9/11 an accident because it wasn't an accident but due to the massive loss of life, even if it's peacetime vs wartime, or natural vs man made, incidents like Titanic, Lusitania, Gustloff, Andrea Doria, the crash at Tenerife Airport, Chernobyl, and 9/11 all fall under the umbrella of being disasters. If you just generalize with the term "worst disaster in maritime history", well wartime disasters are part of maritime history just as much as peacetime ones.
You and I may diligent enough to distinguish wartime vs peacetime but many outlets where you will learn about Titanic, and will inevitably call it the biggest maritime disaster will not. That's why he's mentioning these, to combat this generalization of history, and dispel the mythos that it generates.
