    This is well timed Ted. I was given the opportunity by FX to test the .22 Superior Heavy liner which I put in a Raptor by JSAR. It shot well however I removed the choke and it became a laser! the choke was very tight. 5 thou tight which struck me as odd as Matt Dubber stated that they put only the slightest choke on the Heavy liner and saw a marked increase in accuracy. this almost 300% tighter than most chokes by leading barrel manufactures. Mine was slugs at .1795 lands for the barrel and the choke slugs in at .2130. So in reality, it is a .213 rather than a .22 barrel as far as the projectile flying thur the air is concerned. I double wrapped the liner with cf twil tubing and it is very stiff, ending up with what amounts to an extremely light bull barrel. I did the same with a
    Redmans liner bought from Brownell's Gun Smighting supply that actually slugs at .2232. it is a very accurate liner. The FX is going to have to really strut its stuff to beat it!
    I would love to see FX offer a true .22 barrel that the many casters can use, as there are no molds in such small sizes as the liner requires. Necessitating a huge amount of sizing. Slug shooting has really taken off and many are casting their own for their guns. I have been at this for 11 years now and learned a lot in the process. #1, tight chokes do not do well with a wide variety of slugs and lead harnesses. It should work fine with what is basically a hollow slug such as FX is making available. However, I have reservations about the very tight chokes doing well with a wide range of both slugs, and alloy mixes.
    Fingers Crossed and will be watching your results.

    Awesome news, Ted!! You heard our requests.
    Not sure about .25, but I know .22 700mm SSTX and SSTX Heavy are a lot tighter bore than my .22 regular STX and lowered the muzzle velocity 30 fps or so, using the same projectile. I had to tune "up" to get same MV.
    Ten shot groups at 75 or 100 yard depending on wind conditions with Kings, Heavies, and some slugs should show us some differences. Please check the twist rates on each barrel(people are always asking for that info). And please tell us approx. how many pellets since cleaning barrels.
    Sooooo looking forward to your tests😁.

      Consistent torque on the jam nut and consistent placement (or absence) of the o-rings? My thinking is, the amount of torque on the jam nut will affect the tension the liner is under. Differences could potentially cause differences between barrels. And regarding the o-rings, hypothetically they do alter performance, at least FX certainly claims so. (reducing vibration and so forth) If that is the case, an o-ring damping the barrel at a node would be very different than an o-ring damping the barrel between nodes. The location of nodes though would be based on barrel length as well as tension, just like the frequency of a guitar string varies by length and tension.
      Just a thought, albeit perhaps an over-ambitious one. Really, fully bedding the liners in their respective sleeves would hypothetically maximize performance, but the difference in performance between any two barrels may exceed the difference in performance between two different barrel systems. I have been planning to do exactly that, bed a liner in its outer barrel and empirically compare before and after performance, but there are just so many experiments and so little time to do them.

      HoldOver Vlog What is the question you are trying to answer? I think that with any highly customizable system there’s a temptation to say the best is that with which you can do many things, whereas for most people the point of customization is to be able to tweak a gun to do the one or two things you want it to do. So for you the question might be: what is the liner-pellet/slug combination best suited to reliably and consistently hitting a European starling in the head at 100 yards? There may be very, very few people who have that specific requirement, but by having a clear sense of what you want from a gun; having the ability to set it up to perform that task; and, then executing, is interesting and valuable. To me that’s far more meaningful than saying at the end of your experiment that liner ‘x’ with projectile ‘y’ is the ‘best’. Best for what, for whom and why? And, given how good a shot you are, it might just be that FX should get out of making guns and instead start trying to clone you because you could shoot the pants of most people regardless of hardware...

      best thing you can do is taking it apart relase al pressure!!!, clean everything ,replace al orings ,with quality orings from the right dimensions and hardness ,lube the orings a litlle bit with 100% silicon oil. do you use clean dry air to fill it. the reg is leaking tru to the plenum i think ,you can order eventual a reg ( made to fit )at huma-air.com, what you also can do, if there is a debris somewhere is to bleed the gun via the hammer valve with a controled opening ,screw the hammer against the valve or something ,so al air is fast relased tru the barrel ,the debris may blow out

    Ok I'm over it. I have the .25cal Impact and the power Plenum was added. I have the smooth twist x. My gun does not like the Hybrids at all. Even at 50yds my pattern was 3-4". NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I'm back to shooting pellets. Both 25gr and 34gr do great dime size hole.. but I still get that odd ''flyer''. (No it's not me. I know enough when I'm the problem. So I'm not including those in anything here). I wish there was a way to check the barrel to see if there's a problem with it... maybe a new liner will help but that's another "...hundred bones'' coming out of my pocket. For 2k these guns should be PERFECT right outta the box. ... so what ya waiting for... get shootin' my friend. Really really like have you back.

    Ted, have you had a chance to shoot Zbroia Bullpup or any of there rifles. I'm really interested in their Sapsan .25 I own a FX dream tac compact .25 my first pcp. I'm very happy with it but i would like a diversified gun assortment. I think shooting similar barrels can complicate the pursuit of accuracy. Changes are subtle and fine within the FX family of barrels. My opinion is having diversity from one gun to another. Fine tuning one gun to another that are distinctively different makes it a lot clearer to see what works best for each gun. Vs. Similar guns having subtle changes that mimic each other. Clearly said if there very different the adjustment made to the gun are easier to see. Your thoughts?

    The only problem with this, or any other barrel test, is that one of the primary factors affecting group size is the projectile/barrel fit. Thus your test results could be driven, not by the barrel rifling, , support etc., but simply by the fact that one barrel just happens to be the right diameter for the projectiles you are testing. How are you going to get around this problem to ensure you are really testing what you want to test?

But, that can create issues if you've gone too light on the hammer or too heavy on the reg (it can cause valve locking). This question actually requires a couple pages of typing to address it properly. Maybe something for a future video....:)

    Do you think 25 cal is the sweet spot for FX Dreamlines, also?

    • @HoldOverVlog
      @HoldOverVlog  4 года назад

      No one has ever asked me that. Hmmm. Yes - I would say .22 and .25 are the sweet spot for dreamlines. .25 and .30 for the Impact. This isn't to say a .30 dreamline or a .17 impact can't be a tack driver. Just that each platform lends itself better to different calibers.

  • @asmrwithkhloe8459
    @asmrwithkhloe8459 4 года назад +2

    Is your .30 STX or Superior?
    Man, I would shoot em all through each barrel and see what sticks!!
    I have a .30 Crown with an STX Barrel and it out shoots everything in the cabinet (with the exception of my .22 RedWolf HP which is apparently alien technology in an airgun....It shoots THAT good with the footnote of ONLY 25.39 redesigns on high and 18.13 on low and FX Hybrids on medium....It refuses to shoot anything else)!
    My Impact is in a tie for 3rd with my FX Boss both .30.
    Damn random tangent anyways.....Shoot em all through each barrel.
    If FX is right heavier lead will shoot better from the Superior Heavy liner (spoiler alert NOT the case, at least in my testing of the 34 grain JSB in .25....The standard Superior liner for me anyways shoots em slightly better).
    Another thing to look for is speed.....Does a Superior or Heavy shoot better at 900 FPS what about at 850 which is better?
    Shoot each ammo through each barrel at ludicrous speed then slow em down to say 850-870 and see if it makes a difference.
    Ok, well that was to many cups of coffee rambling post that pry made no sense but got to watch a Ted video!!
    Stay Safe!!

      Yes they do. Right now superior barrels for all calibers and lengths - except .30. I think they are still working on that caliber. Don't know for sure though.

      I know as a manufacturer we’re supposed to sit on the sidelines and be quiet, but tired of seeing this stupid, ignorant line of thinking. So let’s look at this rationally. If FX we’re trying to “empty your pocket” wouldn’t we just come out with new barrel technology like the superior, release it as the Impact MK3 and only sell it as a new rifle? Instead we improve the technology, and sell it to any existing FX owner (modern rifles from the last 4-5 years to be exact) a liner that costs $110 to upgrade their rifle to be a great ad a brand new Impact? That’s our plan to empty your pocket? We’re just being greedy huh? Please objectively and rationally tell me how that makes any sense. Okay. I’m done. Back to quietly observing from the sidelines... 😁

      FXAirguns Sorry, I don’t think people speak with regards to objectivity in this day in age. Unfortunately, people like to use emotive words to get their inane and baseless points across. You give em facts, they’ll give you fiction and opinions. However, like you guys at FX, I always try to inform the uninformed. Especially when it comes to sensitive people who watch hunting videos. I’m glad that as the manufacturer, you all listen to the community and respond to us too. Cheers!
