Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis jr have just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary!!!
Marilyn had a singing career outside the band. Marylin even hosted the TV show Solid Gold
I remember back in the early to mid 80's she was one of the host for Solid Gold and still had some solo albums as well.
@@kenneth2875 I remember watching Solid Gold, haven't heard that show about for years.
Will you marry me, Bill? I got the wedding bell blues! 😍
Love won't carry me....
Both songs are from the play and movie "HAIR" some of the 60's best, Peace✌️ and Love ❤️ we were gonna change the world 🌎 Woodstock, Hippies, and Love-In's, a real beautiful feeling 💙 The 5th Dimension can bring out that feeling, 1970 my 1st trip to New York City we tried to see "HAIR" but we were to young, you had to be 18 because of content and they all got naked on Stage 👀 😢 oh! well, saw the movie and later the play 😅 Peace ✌️ and Love ❤️ your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 Let the Sun Shine In 😂
We put this play on at my high school in 1971. We were not allowed to take our clothes off at the end of the play. It was a lot of fun rehearsing these and the other songs at my home. This 70-year-old hippy is still lost in the fabulous music we had throughout our youth. You and I were born at the birth of Rock and Roll so if you are like me, the music of the following 30 years are in your bones, ingrained in your soul. The joy the music brings me, even when I am not dancing, I am dancing in my head.
@@tchampagne1494pretty progressive that they let you do it at all! It's not just about peace and love, it's drugs, war, sexual revolution, etc. It would be a hard sell in a lot of the country now, almost 60 years later. Certainly not in Texas!
It would be SO COOL to see Shon react to the movie version
I will absolutely pay to see the movie soundtrack version!! Just tell me how and where to send the cash!! 😊
This was 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹. You're enthusiasm is contagious and I feel 𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 you liked it! ❤️🔥
Same!! Love this guy.
That bass line in “Let the Sunshine In” is absolute FY-AH! 🔥🔥🔥
So over looked!
Joe Osborn of The Wrecking Crew.
I’m convinced the bass player has 15 fingers.
Born in 1960, so many peace and love songs. Always wanting and fantasizing of a life and world like this. It's easier for everyone to live in harmony and peace than to not. Create peace. Peace out.
Marilyn McCoo is a beautiful, incredily talented singer.
The 5th Dimension had so many great hits in the 60's-70's. "Go Where You Wanna Go", "Up, Up & Away", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Sweet Blindness", "Wedding Bell Blues", "California Soul", "Workin' On A Groovy Thing", "One Less Bell To Answer", "Never My Love", "(Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep at All", "If I Could Reach You", "Love's Lines, Angles & Rhymes", "Living Together, Growing Together" etc.
All that!
You brought tears to my eyes, I'm so happy you love this!! This song is from the Broadway show, "Hair." My favorite by them is Stoned Soul Picnic, bit all the recommendations are great! You can't go wrong with the Fifth Dimension!
Dude welcome to the 60s and 70s this is what we believed in that's what we believe in now❤❤❤❤❤
Your excitement and energy is exactly how I felt as a teenager when this song was played on the radio!!!!! So cool to be excited again with you!!!!!
1967 was the Summer of Love. By 1969 songs like this were standard. Great reaction to a great song. It was an incredible time that I wish would come back.
Careful what you wish for. Musically, and for those fortunate enough not to be touched by the realities of those times, it was a magical and hopeful time. I would consider this track the virtual theme song for those times and those hopes. For others in America though, those times were brutal and quite often deadly. My "woke" memories start in 63 with the 16th Street bombing and the Kennedy assassination. Throughout the 60's the authorities declared open season on protesters with anything from beatings and firehoses to shootings and lynchings.
*ICONIC song because THIS captured THE MOMENT! They were fabulous and the late '60s were full of tension but also a lot of hope. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. Have incredible voices still!*
This was in the movie Hair...awesome movie based on Vietnam draft ditchers basically and meet a guy who is going to war...it's actually a musical too...soundtrack has lots of awesome songs from that time period...
draft "ditchers" wtf???
It was in the original movie HAIR.. from the 60s or 70s
It was a Broadway show in the 60's.
@@rebeccasimmers3107 yes and then a movie
@@davidhumiston6500 movie in 1979.
We really need this right now in this time. Check out history of our time, never have we had a time of peace. Damn wouldn’t that be great
That would be wonderful.
We are now in "The Age of Aquarius ", at the very beginning and the next 30 years we should have a lot of growth in that direction. Hard to believe, I know but I'm 70 and have been waiting a long time. I still have hope we can prove we're worth it!😎😎😎😎
Oh, my, music I grew up to! I turned 13 years old in 1969.
LOVE The 5th Dimension!
Great music, great performers, fantastic energy!!!
Their harmonies
Mom Got the album soundtrack Musical Hair when I was a kid. The volume was turned up and the whole family knew every word. We danced and sang to this through the good and bad times of that period in time. Thanks for your reaction. It was right on! This music just hits your soul.
I also got to see the 5th Dimension perform in concert in the 80s. They did all the favorites and the crowd knew every song. Peace ✌
Mine, too!
I was born in the late 1950’s. This song is truly timeless. May the message continue on…💚
These are some of the very Best vocals and harmonies in all of Music and over all Genres!
The 5th Dimension had many great songs 🎵 ❤ They were my 1st concert when I was 18 in 1971. Thnx for reacting to this song.
I love this song. And it makes me cry for what we are now.
These songs are from the musical “ Hair” which was the first Broadway rock musical.
True classic been singing this song for 50 years or so
My mom LOVED the Fifth Dimension. I grew up listening to this, and since I am an Aquarius I thought this was so cool. Lol.
As a 5 year old I would play this song over and over on my mom’s stereo. Thank goodness my Mom encouraged my love for music and forgave me for leaving scratches on her LP’s!
The ladies have such classic beauty they look like pageant contestants. Especially Marilyn Mccoo.
Music from the 60's and 70's is timeless and can enlighten all generations!
I fell in love with these guys once I saw them live in the 60's. Was able to get Marilyn and Billy's autographs. Please do more of their music. ☮😎
Until a few years ago I had no idea that they were black singers. I always thought they were white lol
They are just singers!!!!! WHY do people always have to bring skin colour into EVERYTHING????
I was a kid when this was released, and it played on the radio a lot! I loved it! It always brings me back to some great childhood memories.
I grew up listening to this group and I loved them.
Amazing tune! Once you hear it, it’s stays in your head forever.
Great reaction! You are absolutely right in that they told Billy Davis Jr. to just go out and do his thing at the end of the song. The 5th Dimension had many hits and the ones where Marilyn McCoo took lead are simply spectacular because she has one of the greatest voices ever. She and Billy are a married couple who have kept performing this day. I promise your day will also be made if you listen to their chart-topping duet, You Don’t Have To Be A Star.
Another beautiful song by them is "Up, Up, and Away"
Hey Shon, I was 10 years old when this song was released in 1969. I loved this song, but I loved the group and had me a big crush on the beautiful Marilyn McCoo, the tall lead singer, since I was 8 years old.
The fifth dimension live video versions are insanely good! Sounds of my childhood are always good to hear! Thanks! ✌️❤️🤟🥁
It’s like a vitamin B shot for the soul ✨
Soul meets hippiedom. Let it shine!
simply a masterpiece! I'm a hippie inside and this is like an anthem to me.
When I first listened to it in the 90s when I was discovering music and the world I couldn't believe what I was hearing, they are all great and the harmonies are insane.
You are such an old soul! Love it and this song always brings a few tears wishing this was our world ❤
I was a teenager when the 5th Dimension were popular. It was a great time to be a teen. Music was awesome back then. Even though the times were tough with the unrest.
It's been so long since I've heard this song, and listening to this now is giving me literal chills, especially as we are now actually IN the Age of Aquarius, and I absolutely believe we are moving into the New Earth, despite how chaotic things seem. It's the chaos of change, and nothing can stop it. What a great reaction. Thank you for reminding me of this super high-vibrational song! I need to start listening to this regularly! Open up your heart and let the Sun shine in! 🌍🌈🌛🌞🌠☮♒❤
Everyone who reacts to this, just absolutely love ❤️ it. How can you not?!!! I so remember this playing on the radio as a very young child. It made a difference in my being then and even now when i hear it.
LOVE, Love, love the 5th Dimension. They really brought together everyone. Their voices combine to feel like good home cookin'
Another great song performed with one of the best house bands in the business, the “Wrecking Crew”. Cheers
Beautiful. Born in 1966 as an Aquariun. I've always loved this song/ group. They are all such special people.
The way you describe the soulful way he sings against the chorus is so right. So beautiful. Yes, like a gospel preached. Sometimes Phil Collins taps into that vibe and why he was so popular.
Love how happy you are with this positive music. Peace Out!
I love what a beautiful, knowledgeable, wise and loving person you are! That's why I watch you.
You have soul.
Your spirit and enthusiasm is infectious and wonderful. Thank you for being her and sharing it with everyone.
Have fun with these beautiful people with live performances as much as possible to experience that 60's-70's vibe. "Stoned Soul Picnic" and "Working On A Groovy Thing" are great time pieces.
I was 11 years old when this hit. Momma would always crank it up on the old Philco Harmonic console entertainment center and rock it out!! Good times!! She gone now…but I got memories!! 😎
I was born in the age of Aquarius, 55 years...........young...lol...!! Growing up during that time, and every time I heard this beautiful song. It always touched my heart!!! My eyes always filled up with joyful tears!!
Such a beautiful song!!
Growing in the 60’s and being in my teens, this was our music. Peace and Loving…Music with meaning and feelings. ❤️
These two songs came from a revolutionary Broadway musical called "Hair." A couple other groups recorded other songs from the musical that became hits ("Hair" by the Cowsills, and "Easy to Be Hard" by Three Dog Night), but none was as big a hit as this one. I did hear an interview with one of the band members where, for "Let the Sunshine in," they told Billy Davis, Jr "Take us to church."
The 5th Dimension had many hits: "Up, Up and Away" (the first pop 45 rpm record I ever bought), "Wedding Bell Blues," "Stone Soul Picnic," "one Less Bell to Answer" are some to choose from.
As a kid in the 70s, my mom played this song alot. She had the 45. ❤ this song.
We sang Aquarius I my high school choir the audiences loved it. Now I hear this combo and it heals my soul every time
It is so refreshing to see, and know that young people appreciate, and enjoy the music from yester- years.... Thank you for your reactions.....
Cheerio from Down Under 🌺
"Hair" was an absolute sensation when it premiered in the late 60s. This song mash-up brackets the whole play -- first, and last song combined. Takes me right back to my early teenage years. 🙂 Great reaction, too!
My first concert in Raleigh NC many many years ago! Memories! ❤❤
Your reaction made me smile! Now, I gotta go find my Hair CD.
When I saw you reacted to this, I was excited. A match made in heaven! When I was nine, this was my favorite song. I would sing it around the house. You have great taste, bro. Seeing you enjoy this, lifted my spirits and energy. By the Fifth Dimension also try “Wedding Bell Blues“ and for high energy,, “Puppet Man”.
I'm so happy you played/reacted to this song. I was a about six years old when this song released, and I always loved this 5th Dimension song, and other. Thank you Shon!
Yes this was beautiful!!..and so was your reaction!🤗
I was in 8th grade when this song came out in the late ‘60s, and am still lovin’ it today.
Thanks for the memory.❤️
Thank you for listening to this song. A song I heard so many times when I was young. So happy you enjoyed tis and truly appreciated the energy it always brings
They were awesome and Marilyn and Billy went on to have their own Prime Time TV variety show. I watched it every week. I was in elementary school at the time.
As always, beautiful! Many of us grew up discovering astrology…and this song was on it! This was a huge hit on the charts for months! ❤
The five original members were Lamonte McLemore, Marilyn McCoo, Florence LaRue, Ronald Townson, and Billy Davis, Jr. In 1975, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. left the group to form their own collective & individual projects. (They even had their own television show!) As others have posted, they're still married today, and I believe still perform!
I love these guys. Their cover of Wedding Bell Blues is one of my favorite songs.
😃 Yup, I got brought up in this era. Man, it's been ages since I've heard these songs.
You just know how the black folk be like in those days in church, gospel singing. Preaching while singing.
Thank you Shon.
This song reminds me of my childhood. And that transition. Glorious. ❤❤❤
One of the best feel good playlist songs ever! Will start your day! ❤
Glad you reacted to this. One of the reasons I love your reactions is your positive vibes and your sunny smile, so this was a PERFECT video for you
What a beautiful group they were. We could use a lot more of this today.
Great reaction again..
Yessir..
React to..Bob Dylan..
Hurricane or any of his Classics..
Shon: In the spirit of the song "Peace, Man"
You get it! Love you, bro.
Hey shirtless wonder Shon! Your fro is looking mighty mighty along with that thousand megawatt smile😁 I can easily see you up on that stage giving us some powerful Aquarian vibes.❤ Fifth Dimension brought us lots of hits, including ballads like One Less Bell to Answer. and Last Night I Didn't Get to Sleep at All.
This song was in the Broadway play Hair. It came to the Aquarius theatre in the late 60’s. In the middle of it this parachute came down on all the actors on the stage and when they lifted it they were all naked. Shocker. Then the police came up the aisle saying this a raid which terrified me. But it was just part of the production. But yes this song matched the most fun time in my life. Thanks for the memories.
iam glad i lived in the time when this song was popular life was great i miss it....
I remember my mom had this album soundtrack from the movie Hair...always loved this song.
Hey Shon I’m old as hell but imagine being six years old and watching this on the TV! I’ve always liked this song. 🎶
You’d really dig the musical this comes from “Hair”. It began at NY’s Public Theater before moving to Broadway and the world.
50th anniversary summer 2018 the Public Theater revived it for their annual Shakespeare in the (Central) Park festival. I saw it with a friend who’s a total Broadway musical specialist (I am not)😉 we both loved it, he said it was the best musical he’d ever seen 😯
You’ll dig the movie version it’s got a great cast including the beloved Beverly D’Angelo and recently passed (motorcycle accident) Treat Williams. Same director as Amadeus, choreographer Twyla Tharp.
Love watching you enjoying different music. You’re an amazing young man. ☮️💞🙏
Decades ago I went to visit my US relatives in San Francisco. I didn't know that they all were hippies. It was like on another planet. Now I'm an old man and since April weed is legal in Germany, ha ha. Maybe I shoukd smoke and hear this kind of music. Greetings from Germany!
We took my German friends to the Haight-Ashbury in the 60’s. They thought they were in the American version of Oberammergau and the Passion Plays! “ Ach kuck mal an den heiligen Jesus und Maria!” 😂
Just wondering, some of the pot stores here in Canada deliver, do you have that too? We love it! lol
Such is the power of music, and Shonrah’s feelin’ it! 💜🇦🇺
This is from the musical Hair. Let the Sunshine In is the final song, and I dare you not to cry when you hear and see it
If this song doesn't lift your spirits, you are flat lined!
One of the best pieces of music ever to be put together, the 2nd part feels to me like what music would sound like and be played in the afterlife
One of my favorites growing up. Love these guys.
I have heard the song many times, never knew what the singers looked like until now .
You're a very positive, up person. I really like your vibe!! This was a very hot song, in its day!
We should let the Son shine in, everyday!!
This/these songs were written for the musical 'Hair'.
There's so much to this song...... go to ^Hair let the sunshine in^ in youtube . It always brings tears. Or even watch the whole film that Aquarius and let the sunshine are from
PS love the Channel
The shorter lady - I've forgotten her name - is still touring with four new singers under the name the 5th Dimension. And Mr. Davis and Ms. McCoo are still performing and still together. They had a lot of hit after leaving the 5th Dimension.
LOVEEEEEEEEE this song and this group !
You have such great reactions!
This song just sounds so awesome to my ears..
Great song
I can't help but smile watching this! Fantastic!
