This is from 1965 and the surfer girl image wàs definitely a thing. The Beatles did a take-off on it with Back In The USSR.

The Beach Boys had on the culture of the beach scene in California. They basically froze in
time the whole attitude and culture and made it their own. Their songwriting and vocals are
phenomenal and unmatched. They have tons of great songs. Definitely worth a deep dive!
Another way to look at this message-- is that many of the beautiful girls from all over the world could come to California and become one if "its" beautiful girls-- as many, many, do! 🌞
The Beach Boys are quintessentially Californian, old school surfer music. The song “Feel Flows” is one of my favorites
My favorite too. That whole Surf's Up album.
This may not their best song musically, but still fun & iconic. Their harmonies are always to die for. I love "I Get Around", "Woudn't it Be Nice", "Fun Fun Fun", "Sloop John B", and one that most reactors don't do, "Darlin". Oh, and of course, their "Good Vibrations" really changed things up.

One of the three greatest American bands, Beach Boys, Eagles and CCR. Grew up on the CA coast, Beach Boys were ingrained in everyone's life in some way out there.
If they wanted their songs to get radio play back in the 60s, most songs had to be around 3 minutes in length so they wouldn’t cut into the radio stations time for running ads.
I grew up with The Beach Boy's music & had a lot of their records. Brian Wilson was the genius songwriter of the group. They span many decades but I love their early stuff from the 60's-70's. Their music conveys such happy innocent days of youth (surfing, cars, romance). They had tons of hits such as "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Surfin' Safari", "I Get Around", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Sloop John B.", "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "God Only Knows", "In My Room" etc.
My favorite is "I Get Around."
This was the song in which Brian Wilson hit his stride, he was no longer making songs, he was
making masterpieces. The blending of voice and music was unique and original. This is when Brian
knew how good he was and how good he could be.
As previously mentioned 1965.

They were spoofing this song and Chuck Berry's "Back in the USA". I've never heard them mention "Surfin' USA" as a reference.

When they say the “Ukraine girls really knock me out” has to be a nod to “California Girls” with BEACH boys harmony in the background

Short songs were the way to get played on the radio in the 60s... "The Wrecking Crew" were the studio musicians that filled in the depth behind those great harmonies. Check "Wouldn't It Be Nice" for my personal fave, and thanks for checking them out! PS, there is a great documentary on The Wrecking Crew, on RUclips & Amazon. You will be amazed at how many hits they backed, from MANY artists and groups!

Born and raised So-Cal girl here who grew up in Hawthorne where the Beach Boys were from. Even though they were around 30 years before I was born the beach vibes were there and still are to this day.

Love the beach boys, as a kid in the early 80's played their greatest hits cassette over and over.
Ha! The fantasy from that era was that California girls were all gorgeous, blonde, with golden tans…running on the beach! And, they sang about it a lot…pissed off us brunettes, with pale skin running for cabs in NYC! LOL
My impression is that in the 1960s California girls were considered culturally and physically (due to the healthy tan outdoor look) distinct from the stodgy rest of the country. But IMHO Minnesota 'northern girls' were and still are quite beautiful.
Songs were very short back then. 😂 This song was so huge, they started the California girls thing and then Katy perry and everyone else is simply paying homage to this song when they talk about California girls.

Another song to check out is Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire from 1965. Take it from the Vietnam War, change a couple words (or not) and you could drop it today. We’re on the same road right now, history on repeat. Unforgettable lyrics & voice and it still sends chills down my back.
California Girls was a top 5 hit for The Beach Boys in 1965. The orchestration is by The Wrecking Crew, the group of LA studio musicians that played on hundreds of hit records in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Watch the documentary film, “The Wrecking Crew.” it’s available on RUclips. And put on a damn shirt.
David Lee Roth did a cover of it when he was performing solo after leaving Van Halen. Beach Boys are the bomb.Love the harmonies and the vibe.

The original and the best. Van Halen also did a remake of this. Remember songs of that era were usually between 2 and 3 minutes long. It was for radio play.

The Beach Boys are a group with so many hits. This is a rabbit hole you need to keep going down. Brian Wilson, wrote the majority of the songs. He is brilliant! The harmonies of the Beach Boys is incredible. The Beatles were huge at the time that the Beach Boys came out and as the Beach Boys became successful there was a competitiveness b/w the two bands but both respected each other immensely. Each drove the other to raise their bar and write songs that took them to new places.
I don't think there any greater groups than the Beach Boys.

This song has a kind of a double meaning: California Girls are special to the Beach Boys because that is where they are from, but they are also wishing all pretty girls around the world could be in California.
California girls come from everywhere as opposed to a state like Texas, for instance, where most are born there.

I've been to a lot of other states and people just aren't as friendly as they are in California... so maybe that's it? I'd argue the east coast the people are the most cold- personality wise. But even Oregon and Washington they aren't rude but they aren't friendly either.... those are just very introverted quiet people who don't like talking to other people.
Or maybe The Beach Boys could be more specifically spending their time in the LA area and there really are a lot of beautiful people who all end up in LA and Hollywood trying to model or act. They mention the women in bikinis on the beach.... socal has the nice warmer beaches too.
