Her lyrics are great, one standout from it is "And the bones that once moved my fingers over keys are protesting in fist on my knees". Such a good way to describe the songwriting block!
The dance called the "Carlton" by Alfonso on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air was partly taken from the dance with Courtney Cox and Bruce in this video. You can definitely see the similarities. I’m more of a casual fan of Bruce, but wouldn’t consider him one of my favorites. With that said, his concert (along with Stevie Wonder’s) were probably the best I’ve ever seen live, and I’ve seen a lot of legendary artists live. His band is incredible whether you know the songs or not.
This song introduced many people (myself included) to Bruce Springsteen, but it’s really not authentic Bruce. Take away the choreographed dance and give him an acoustic guitar and you’ve got Bruce. “The River” is my all-time favorite of his. Much slower, much more emotional, brilliant lyrics.
Just to say: Dancing in the Dark is fun . . .and to me, it's one of his LEAST important or artistic songs. He's got DOZENS of those others. I'll let others name them.
