Im really diggin kurt solo here, Goddamn , to burst thru the changes of this tune with such a believable melody in this fast tempo This is why he is a fking legend
Holy shit this is the most rhythmically intense pianist I've heard since McCoy Tyner. And as people have already said, Kurt's solo is insanely good. Making Inner Urge sound super soulful.
Then you should dig this absolute tour de force by Joey Caldarazzo on "Impressions" live with Brecker. His solo starts at 5:35. It'll blow your fucking head off. ruclips.net/video/gFbv9EqjJXY/видео.html
Kurt's playing on this is so good it veers into hilarious. Beyond being able to be processed like ordinary playing. Reflexively is the only way to take it in. Or like someone's playing an absurd comedic prank on us; tricking us into believing what we'll all have a good chuckle about later after we're told it was just a put on. I mean, at 3-4 points during his solo I busted out into uncontrollable laughter 'cuz it was just so off the charts no other response made sense. Talk about kickin' it up a notch. I mean gimme a fuckin' break. Enough's enough already. Just ridiculously beautiful playing. Kurt: You rarely disappoint. Thanks. You are the man...
i know exactly what you mean. i was literallt laughing the whole time by how blown away i was. his solo was tremendous and the intensity of the band backing him made it all that much better. i felt everything
@@tristancata9146 Yup... I particularly like the drummer's playing here. He's got it goin' on :) If interested, I just saw new vid go up here on the tubes w/ Beets and an orchestra at The Hague playing an arrangement called "Chopin Meets The Blues," or something like that. IMO worth checking out. Not great necessarily, but a worthwhile attempt at the occasional "third stream" thing...
Kurt’s note choices here are one of the most amazing things. It’s HARD to play melodies that don’t sound like nonsense on this tune, even if you’re following the changes exactly. He seems to pick some subsets and substitutes that sound just wonderful over this.
It seems like he also consider the last eights chords in pairs of two. He often phrase over the first and second ones, then the third and the fourth, fifth and sixth, and seventh and eigth. Wich mean working over two chords separated by a minor third down, and then working over theses intervals of chords and move them one semi tone ahead once you've reached the second one. For example C A then Bb G then G# F etc... (written as enharmonic material)
Great playing Peter! He really gets onto it at 7.20 and from then on out it is batshit insanely good! I love this tune and just "attempted" to record it (cos it is difficult!). Someone has published Kurt & Peter's solos transcribed, which is interesting stuff.
I like how the pianists obsession with rhythmic repetitions doesn't affect his staying with the progression. Cross the bar. Also Check out Kenny Wheeler and Henderson with 87 big band on RUclips as well as Joey Alexander with Grenadier and Kendrick Scott. Also a duet in a classroom with hang on Patrick Bartley and Miles Lenox
maybe it comes from the HOG, i dont know this device enough to tell. I remember him talking about a pedal call the Attack Decay by Malekko. I'd guess on that since his tone in this particular video doesnt sound HOGed.
Fillipe Madureira It's definitely the HOG. It's the only pedal that can completely eliminate the attack for fast, normally played runs (others like the Slow Gear or Attack-Decay need silence between notes to track effectively). The HOG slightly processes the guitar signal digitally, giving it it's distinctive sound. I wish other pedal companies tried their hand at designing attack-decay pedals, without copying the HOG or the Slow Gear.
+GROTELETTERS Cool Groteletters. I'm not that familiar w/ Grantstand. I'll have to check it out. I listened to his quartet stuff w/ Sonny Clark quite a bit back in the day, and his Feelin' The Spirit record. I think this solo by Kurt is exceptional. To point out another moment, as you did, where I think I hear an influence is the short phrase from 3:58 - 4:00. I can't not hear that as Holdsworth every time. Beautiful...
Disaster starts at 05:40, the bass player starts to play half time loosely countering the drum, while the piano insist to play straight on walk, from 06:49 the piano starts to play cross time, and from that point the ensemble kind a loose on time, no one try keep the beat, except Beets :p and still the piano try to make sense of the phrase by playing something non linear and from 08:15 probably try to talk to the drum and bass, still great example how the pro can handle the play situation!
Sure, Kurt's playing is stellar etc., but give Peter Beets a good listen: there is no guitar player even coming close to what is going on on that piano...
He must have the pick of destiny

drum solo is so melodic u can hear the tune throughout the entire thing
Still one of my fav performances of kurt ever. He went hard in this song.

@@luke125 thanks so much for that!
RIP McCoy
fuck yeah.... hard rock
Peter Beets is insanely good. Kurt solo is so refreshing, and DAMN Patocka is an exceptional drummer
Peter Beets' solo was fantastic. Loved it.
Frans Van Geest one of the most underrated bass players, serious chops and sound
Great playing by Kurt! Really a titan of our time
This is absolute world class!
Bulbous, shiny and effervescent, yet crunchy!
It’s just music dude chill
Masterful playing by Mr. Rosenwinkel!
What an incredible performance of that band with that tune, and three great solos too! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome Rosenwinkel on a tip of Wynton Kelly Butterroll with Jimmy Garrison Philly Joe Jones topping served. Awesome.
Absolutely wonderful !
Thanks so much for posting these. Whole band is wonderful. Kurt is interstellar, yet Earthy...
+Robby R "Interstellar yet earthy" I like it :)
Impressive Rosenwinkel and group tonight in NY
Just checkin' in. Been a while. Yup... This is still ridiculously good. Carry on...

brutal.kurt and peter..I mean ALL!!for Christ´s sake
Flawless execution!! I've become a fan instantly, cheers from Lima -Perú!
Wow, you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can’t pick your friend’s nose. This was unbelievable.
Unas maquinas ! increible.
Excellent piano solo - really paying attention to the left hand
That line at 2:19 is my favourite. So melodic!
Amazing to listen to how Kurt Rosenwinkel went from this kind of generic sounding jazz guitarist to this deep personal sound.
sound from the god
Lindo solo tb da bateria; macio e inspirado!
sem palavras!!!
Guys, this is awesome ! 👌🏼👌🏼
Que bueno es Kurt!!!
arigato!!great job all.
The snare and the piano in sync at 7:57 though
supergoeie ritmesectie!!!!! oorstrelend
excellent!!
Great drumming.
anonymous person ha ha.
damn this is good.....subscribed!!!

Amazing
Wish the piano was a little louder! Great performance all around.
New mix is ready, coming soon!

WooooooOoooooo!!!!
fuck!!!! That tone :O
Holy cow ..., 👍🏽
that was hot!!!!🔥
How does he hide the pick attack? Amazing tone!
THAT is the question.
there has to be an effect making his attack disappear
he's a hog-addict.

Great drummer too!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
0:09 vs 09:53, always very intersting to compare heads in entrance and in exit
You mean they finish 15% faster than how they started?
4:32 what the actual heck
really nice. great solos. kurt rushes like hell on the outhead, take a breath big guy.
The band took him there. It's amazing that he could still pull off that melody 15 clicks or so faster than they started.
Yesss!!!
3:15 reminds me so much of Grant Green's Grantstand.
+GROTELETTERS Cool Groteletters. I'm not that familiar w/ Grantstand. I'll have to check it out. Kurt goes intersideral here
Wow
Kurt's playing is clearly off the scale, but it's a shame that the mix isn't a bit more balanced
There is a new mix available. Search with ‘new mix’ in the title
Cette guitare a le son d'un synthétiseur, c'est spécial. Je préfère le son de la guitare d'Anton Goudsmit. Master Beets toujours aussi génial!
OMG!
Unbridled savagery.
8.20 Concerto de Aranjuez?
wowowowowow
Got a bit excited
Great guitar tone...almost violin-ish
Man the piano beeting the shit out of thay rhythm section hhe...

jam24 thank you
he's not playing half-time there, he's playing dotted quarters over the barline
Disaster? Nah it went well
Take a look at how they started the melody vs as to when they end. They rushed a lot. Still an amazing performance tho
you cant blame them for rushing this tune is exciting as hell
It's normal in jazz bro it's emotional. part of the interplay. almost all the classic jazz record they all speeded up in the end
5:23
Sounds like an accordion!
Kenny burell
Hoi Sascha
Why the fuck the dislikes?
Ahhw... if only the piano gain was a little higher 😞
Still great performance though!
SuperCape There’s a new mix available on RUclips!
Out head is wayyyy faster
Kurt's solo was just.... pffffff!
Tom Quayle needs to cover this. He's insane.
He does
Sure, Kurt's playing is stellar etc., but give Peter Beets a good listen: there is no guitar player even coming close to what is going on on that piano...
Both solos are amazing….but kind of an ignorant comment, because different things are available on a piano as opposed to a guitar lol…
I agree with the reply above mine
BIEN,mais çà tourne au SOLO pour ce guitariste!!Il Il faut aimer!!!👍🎶🎶🎶
