After experiencing 12 sets of the Next Step Band at The Village Vanguard earlier this year, Jeff Ballard became my favorite jazz drummer. The man is incredible.
I feel like songs like Kurt's "Minor Blues" ushered in a new era. It is rare that a modern jazz composition can find it's why into becoming a modern classic but tunes like this and "Zhivago" certainly do.
I fully agree. This happens extremely rarely and only emphasizes Kurt's unique talent. Amazing artist and fantastic band! Thanks for your comment, subscribe and stay tuned.
High praises must go to Victor’s Places again for bringing quality improvisational music to the world. Choice of tunes and superb cinematography / editing is just perfect - almost like experiencing the artists live. And Live is what Rosenwinkel is all about here, exploring a (somewhat) new approach and a new "post HOG" sound - elegant and "simple" tones in perfect harmony with an eloquent Wendel and a burning Street. Thank you.
Amazing. To think we'd get such great footage from this band (feat Ben Wendel this time, who's also great) Please don't hesitate to post the rest of this gig, we're all eager to see/hear it. Thank you Victor!!!
I truly agree, amazing Kurt, Great band! Thanks for the comment and support! We try to keep the audio/video recording high quality to better feel the beauty of this music and artists!❤
Truly great musicians working in harmony is a thing of joy. Kurt, of course, but also the two Bens. And Jeff Ballard is one of the most musical drummers I have ever heard.

I had Ben Wendel as a combo teacher this year at Jazz @ Port Townsend. Really great guy, and amazing musician (obviously). He told me he would be touring with Kurt in the fall, I asked him if he would be coming anywhere near Vancouver, B.C. (where I live) and he said, no they would be touring Europe, and here it is! So cool. Thanks for sharing! EDIT: Also cool to here Kurt play piano live!
Really, Kurt brings us happiness when we feel and empathize with this beautiful music. Then life (our attitude to it) also becomes better ❤️ Thanks for comment and support!
Thank you Victor's Places! What a treat to hear this iconic group with Ben Wendel filling in for Mark Turner. His strong, full sound brings a different intensity and colour to the music. I often wonder what certain recordings would sound like with a replaced group member (Eg. What the Keith Jarrett standards trio might have sounded like with Charlie Haden replacing Gary Peacock), it happens very rarely that you actually get to hear one of these thought experiments in practice. Thank you!
Thanks for your comment. Yes, it's very interesting. And I'll try to arrange a couple more concerts of another famous band/trio, but in a different configuration (Joey Calderazzo and John Patitucci..). Stay tuned and subscribe!
Love Kurt's conception and execution. Remember when Pat Metheny felt that his Lexicon multi-amp chorus was "his sound", and refused to turn it off or be heard in public without it? For, like, 12 or 15 years? Waiting patiently for Kurt to get past this pog effect that pulls back the attack of the note. That he hasn't turned off in oh, 5 or 6 years now. Kurt, there is no effect that makes you sound like you, it is in your heart and your ear, in your musicianship. You were an identifiable voice before you started using it, and you will be still, after you give it up.
I think being a creative artist he always looks for different ways to express himself. But guitar is definitely his main instrument. Thanks for the comment and stay tuned!

Kids... LISTEN!!!! This is how you do it. It's called MUSIC.
Miss Mark Turner but still great.
I can't say who is better, but Ben Wendel is also a great saxophonist and improviser

Kurt has truly created his own unique style and we will always recognize it no matter the way it is expressed!

I feel like kurt plays piano more like he used to play guitar back in the day, wtv that may mean.
I think being a creative artist he always looks for different ways to express himself. But guitar is definitely his main instrument. Thanks for the comment and stay tuned!
It's interesting how different this group sounds without Mark Turner
Different, but also amazing!
Guitar and sax never sounded so good together.
Что случилось с Джеффом ?
Я его едва узнал )
What do you mean?
Where is Pete Koplan?... Tell him I'm looking for him!
lol so much attention on kurt's hair
no hat?!
Band is cooking... too tight.
