I think the Mazda 3 is one of the only cars out of a few, i would consider buying. I don't need a giant SUV with big wheels and is expensive to maintain. I just need a car to drive me around from point A to B. Finding a quality small car like a Mazda 3 is getting harder and harder.
Exactly this. My only down side is the gas mileage, especially if you get the AWD. They have to fit a smaller gas tank. But my next car I am looking at a Subaru crosstrek as it has a 63 litre tank vs a 46 litre tank. And I deal with the snow so even though I have snow tires, 6” of snow on unplowed roads is twitchy.

I have the 186hp SkyActiveX in the UK and its definitely a nice boost over the base G. If you get the chance to try one i suggest you at least see what the difference is like, and the fuel economy is pretty insane tbh.
@@thesherbet I'm selling mine on Saturday after 3 years of ownership. Poor reliability with an interior that looks expensive but simply is not durable. Shame as it drives well and has lots of equipment. Back to Volvo for me!
I have got a mazda 3 2.5lt in the older bm model. Has been a great daily car. Fuel economy, reliable and cheap to maintain. The new model looks good but would prefer the awd turbo setup for a bit more kick rather than the same engine.

Mazda must bring the new 2.5 Turbo AWD to Australia. I've seen a review done in The States and it was amazing. 0 to 100km in 5.6 s and the brakes were upgraded.
The rev counter is in the wrong place. It should be one of the options for the middle dial instead of an analog speedo, which you don't need with a digital head up display.
MY20 models are plagued with electrical problems. They are presenting with airbag faults which Mazda grounds the car. Takes weeks for parts. People have reported it happening at just 500 kilometres anywhere to 30,000 kilometres. Two owners I know of are in the process of refunds and replacements. The BP has been by far the most problematic with teething issues of a new model since the introduction of the BK. Currently three at work to fix seal issues with doors, battery malfunction, and a replacement of radars on the windscreen. Would not bother.
Great review mate, but I must say I just can't warm to this current design of the Mazda 3 hatch. It looks great in the front half but then it just looses it in every way. The rear design is just to curved and low. I currently own a Mazda CX3 with that same style of gearbox and it is seriously temperamental. It sometimes behaves smoothly, but for the most of the time it's jerky, and if it's pushed it tends to have a majorly bad lag, it revs high and barely moves then suddenly speeds off and is totally unpredictable. Quite disappointing as Mazda have always been terrific.
I don’t get why each car manufacturer thinks having a touch screen is good... It’s safer then people keeping they’re eyes on the road and not have to stare and reach toward a touch screen
This isn’t a bash on Mazda, but these cars are far from premium cars. Full disclaimer, I actually plan on purchasing a MAZDA3 AWD sedan in a few months so I definitely don’t think it’s a bad car, but... I test drive one and for all the praise journalists give these cars, they’re really just average. For starters, the interior looks nice, but the quality is really only surface deep. Start actually poking around and you quickly realize that the whole car just feels kinda hollow. The rear is cramped, the trunk is tiny, and the lower plastics are very scratchy. A Toyota Corolla doesn’t look nearly as pretty or as upscale as the 3, but in almost every metric the Corolla FEELS like a more substantial vehicle. The Corolla doesn’t creak like the MAZDA3, it doesn’t feel hollow, and even the ride is better thanks to its double-wishbone suspension. Where the Mazda excels is design and the fact that is offers AWD which I prefer. And with the exception of the Corolla, the MAZDA3 still feels better inside than a Civic, Elantra, Forte, and Impreza. And it looks better than all those cars combined. That’s why I plan on buying one. AWD, great design, affordable. But don’t believe the hype, it is NOT a premium car.
Yeah really disappointed in the move from double wishbone. I love how my older m3 is bog basic, but the suspension, steering and gearbox are top notch. I get that interior is what sells these days, but I feel they made too many sacrifices to the enthusiast market.
Needs the turbo to truly compete with the premium offerings. Nothing wrong with the G25 engine; Mazda Australia just missed the chance to offer a better alternative.
The back looks so crammed and claustrophobic I think it will be unpleasant journey. The sedan be better option. I sat in the civic hatchback and I think it is the benchmark for space and comfort in this hatchback segment.
I went in the back seat for a bit during a test drive. The hatch was awful there, the black headliner made it feel very claustrophobic. Sat in the back seat of the sedan, was still snug but much much more comfortable with the white headliner making it feel much larger
Great car but the black roofline inside means it's like being a cave in the back seats, too dark. Also no USB sockets for the rear passengers. C'mon Mazda get your act together.
A nice car until you move beyond the front seat. Way too tight in the rear. It’d want to feel premium for the price they’re asking. Underpowered and too thirsty.
Yes. I'm 6'3" (190cm) and just bought the turbo. I don't even have the seat back as far as it can go. Plenty of headroom. The space isn't great for passengers in the rear but I don't anticipate passengers very often. Love the car. Tested against the Lexus IS 350 and Acura TLX A-spec and thought it drove just as well and was just as quiet. I actually prefer the driving feel over the Lexus...oh and way more options for less money.
@@Mexxx65 the turbo is available in the US. Somewhat undermined by the fact that it only comes with AWD for the 2.5T, which is basically pointless here
That styling is a bit hit and miss. Beautiful front end, but the doors look as if they are dented and that C pillar is just a slab of metal that doesn't gel with the rest of the design. As for the price, they're dreaming.
Just got the sedan version with the highest trim for under $30k USD. For a car that is legitimately fun to drive, has a very nice interior, and has AWD, that seems like a bargain to me.
Guys. Rather than spending all the video time about how good or bad it is, how about talking about how bismall Mazda after sales customer service is? I a sure that will get you more views as there's so much negatives aspects about this side of the brand.
We review new cars, mainly - feel free to share your story if you’d like? (I’m deleting the duplicate copy of this comment you left across other Mazda videos).
@@chasingcars understood. But reviewing after sales also will get you more views I believe. What good is a car if it starts to show faults after a few years that mazda (or any brand's after sales) does not want to fix? I believe your viewers will love this new side as well and I am sure it will help to improved after sales customer service.
Hi, I have a 2016 mazda top spec which I bought new, please consider your options carefully before buying. Don't rely on looks. I have had a few issues with my mazda 3 that the dealership refused to fix for free in spite of the warranty. Currently there's my tensioner that needs fixing, mazda fixed it for free about a year and a half ago, but the same issue is happening and now they want $800 to fix it. There's also my starter motor that they say is noisy and reccomend that I change at the "low" price of $550. Last year I changed my serpentine belt at mazda for the "cheap" price of $650. I love my mazda and the way they drive and always drive it very conservatively, but for the sake of my pocket, my next car will be a toyota.
Large hatchbacks are rediculous and ungainly looking things. This Mazda must be at least the size of an early 80's Commodore. It's not even stylish anymore. I had a '79 Mazda 323 RWD..........that was a small, attractive hatch! Room for four plus some cases. It was big enough. The Yaris hatch and Mazda 2 hatch prove that small hatches can still be done whilst including the latest safety features.
@@chasingcars The dealerships I've been to will always strong arm you into financing with them rather than buying outright. They'll put you in a closed office room and make you feel uncomfortable to say no or leave the room and will keep piling papers in front of you to sign.
Robert, you may not have considered that the dynamic assessment of the car happens over a week and not simply on the 20min you see on camera. Pretty hard to talk and drive at ten tenths...
I challenge anyone to come drive my Toyota Matrix XRS with IRS and my Mazda 3 with no IRS. The 3 buries the Matrix, so it's not JUST an IRS that makes any difference. Proper engineering and design are more critical than IRS.

So what l don't like,

The fiddly tiny buttons for fan, etc
Tiny icons for showing if air is coming into or recircerlating, if it going to feet, screen or face etc, these tiny buttons are confusing, and distracting as u try figure out what they are doing
I still haven't figured out how heater works in car, confusing
Above issues would be solved if a nice little panel was there to push, that was clearly marked
Husband is 6' 4, he wishes steering wheel could raise more than it does
You need take headrests out in rear seats to fold seats down properly, ok if short, but if driver has their seat back a bit, can't lay rear seat down
Interia lights on dash, sat nav, only seem to have 2 settings for brightness, one being not bright enough, other being far too bright
Low profile tyres look nice, but over some things like tram tracks, feels like your fillings in teeth could fall out

Why they can’t design for the back seats I will never know.
The featured skyactiv-g is not the 180HP version.
Yes, it’s the 140kW (187hp) version
@@chasingcars but the car is labelled as Skyactive-G ... the 180hp version is the Skyactive-X
Small car?
What is headroom like for people who are over 6ft inside the Mazda 3 hatchback ? Is it good for tall people
I actually prefer the driving feel over the Lexus...oh and way more options for less money.
didn't you watch the video ?
I'm a bit over 6' and had to move the seat way forward and raise it up. I'm never hit my head getting in/out.
Rear seat space and windows are really the deal breaker here, otherwise a very appealing car
It's pretty boring really. Bring the turbo here.
Needs a turbo AND a manual
A manual is available! a Turbo in our dreams...
@@Mexxx65 the turbo is available in the US. Somewhat undermined by the fact that it only comes with AWD for the 2.5T, which is basically pointless here
When it comes to balance the best one was 2017 version. They cut back space which made this car useless comparing to Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.
That styling is a bit hit and miss. Beautiful front end, but the doors look as if they are dented and that C pillar is just a slab of metal that doesn't gel with the rest of the design. As for the price, they're dreaming.
The rear imo is bloated and awful. Lack of design cohesion
Dunno. When looking I did consider an i30. By the time I put safety kit on it was the same price as a 3.
Nice to see Slender Jr. doing car reviews. Just hope he doesn't scare little kids at night like his father.
Getting more and more expensive...
Just got the sedan version with the highest trim for under $30k USD. For a car that is legitimately fun to drive, has a very nice interior, and has AWD, that seems like a bargain to me.
@@HydetheRapper good for you. I'm still going to keep driving what I have until I see something worth the price.
good looking car, but, TBH is there a market for 'old' cars like this that are not self-driving in 2021?
i30 n line all day
"Small car" 😂🤣😂🤣
Never skip leg day
Large hatchbacks are rediculous and ungainly looking things.
I'd buy a Mazda, but the Mazda dealerships in my area are pretty greasy and illicit in the way they sell them.
Tell me more?
Never found that myself. How have you found them greasy in your experience?
@@chasingcars
The dealerships I've been to will always strong arm you into financing with them rather than buying outright. They'll put you in a closed office room and make you feel uncomfortable to say no or leave the room and will keep piling papers in front of you to sign.
@@kodessa use a broker then ..
You drive this car like an old person !! How can you talk about performance and handling driving it like that?
Robert, you may not have considered that the dynamic assessment of the car happens over a week and not simply on the 20min you see on camera. Pretty hard to talk and drive at ten tenths...
@@chasingcars Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I'm used to the American reviewers where they rev the beast up and tear through the turns more.

Geez. Could you drive that Mazda any slower? LOL 😂
I am not sure if this is a paid review. This Mazda has no independent rear suspension. And you can do better in twisted road. You have to be kidding.
Another person that thinks they need irs but doesn’t even know what it is.
@@69memnon69 Independent Rear Suspension. IRS
I challenge anyone to come drive my Toyota Matrix XRS with IRS and my Mazda 3 with no IRS. The 3 buries the Matrix, so it's not JUST an IRS that makes any difference. Proper engineering and design are more critical than IRS.
43 for that...
NOPE!
Holy skinny arms Batman. This guy needs to eat some bacon cheeseburgers asap.
Good review but please put a pair of trousers and a shirt on next time.
Haha! With a name like Nigel and saying “trousers” I can only only imagine how you prefer your men to look.

You must feel very proud of yourself too.

How very grown up of you, Nigel. Sure your name isn’t Karen?
Nigel, in case you hadn’t noticed, the presentation style and the chosen clothes are very much in tune with Johns age group, potential owners and demographic...... It’s great to see a casual but articulate young man doing such a great job 👏. John, keep up the great work
Didn’t know Slender Man was doing car reviews now cool
