    My son chose a 3 sedan this week after his 2021 Evolve CX 30 got written off in a flood stall two weeks ago in Melbourne. Your commentary provided him the well reviewed reasons that backed his decision to go down one level to a Mazda3 sedan in the Evolve trim. It cost him the exact same price as this GT model but 2 years later.

      @@jamiegarth3146 the majority of people here in Australia, me included, don’t give a toss for manuals. It’s about time they’re put out to pasture (electric cars will do that), autos these days have lightning fast gear changes and better fuel efficiency that manual only serves as an ego trip that is a PITA in city traffic. Again what matters here is that they don’t use CVT so that the 95% of buyers that opt auto will get a better experience.

    Great review man, I am in the states but I have been looking at the 3 for a while and have stumbled onto this video. Love the insight and the information as well as the water bottle test. Get the 3. It’s a great little car. And very good looking too. My only gripe with my 3 is that the ride maybe isn’t as good as it used to be. It gets a little unsettled over bumps when driven normally. The whole car is a 9.5/10. But the ride is a 6/10 honestly.
      However I will say, like the review said, the harder you drive the 3, the better it becomes. Mazda did an excellent job with the AWD system. The 3 behaves like a RWD car through corners because it actually rotates when you give it more throttle. BUT if you give it too much and the front starts to wash out, just lift off a little bit and the nose tucks back in nicely.
      2019 MAZDA3 Preferred Package with AWD.
      Edit: if you can find one with a turbo, get it.

    Great that you know your Mazda history Nathan. I've never heard anyone say the first 323 (released in Australia March '77) had a nice interior but actually, it did. Yes, the last 323 (BJ)was a good car but the interior was tacky. The BG and BA had lovely interiors. Mazda has it's mojo back with the design of this 3 in the same way it did with the 1500, the 1983 929 4 door hardtop, the 1994 Astina 4 door hardtop and the Eunos 500. Educated, unique review unlike anyone else. Top notch.

    I love my Mazda 3 g20 evolve sedan. I added vision technology which I love. This is by far the sexiest car and I love how my room it is and it feels and looks like a sports car. My husband loves driving it on weekends which is annoying because I’d love to drive it more. This is my car and we have a almost 4 year old. I chose this over the SUV is way more bang and style for your buck. I have upgraded from the micra which had no technology so this is a massive upgrade and I’m getting used to driving this big car, well big for me.

    20k cheaper than an A180 sedan and arguably the 3 is the better car - dark blue red interior manual GT 2.5 in sedan or hatch form is a classy car. Well set up torsion beam set up beats a fully independent set up - see Mitsubishi’s Lancer now defunct sedan for dynamic comparison and the 3 is well able to meet expectations as did the Alfasud and Pug GTIs :) - great review

      We compared the A180 sedan to this as well, the most expensive thing about that car is the Merc badge on the front, the level of safety tech and features you need to option on that is ridiculous compared to even a midrange Mazda3 let alone the top end one. This has always been the case with entry level “luxury” models but this Mazda actually feels premium in its materials and interior design so it’s not just all steak and no sizzle (Toyota)

    I got the 3 sedan last month in the “Preferred” spec (U.S. has different trim, but Preferred is basically one down from the fully loaded Premium trim. I avoided the premium trim because I didn’t want the standard cylinder deactivation that I heard was faulty). Overall the car has quickly became my favorite in my fleet of 2008 Acura TSX 6 speed stick and 2019 Toyota C-HR Limited. I just wish the ride was a bit better. The Acura and Toyota rides better. The Mazda is a bit TOO unsettled over bumps.

      @@ikarugaxx3749 Tbh the Mazda3 was never a “nimble” car to me. I also own a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0i so my idea of “fun to drive” and “nimble handling” is based off that car which basically handles like it’s on a rails. The Mazda3 handles well, but everything about it is kinda artificial. First it turns in and the brake vectoring helps keep the nose pointed in, but then it’s FWD characteristics kick in and the front starts to wash out, but then my car has AWD so then the AWD kicks in to bring the car back in line and then it turns in again. So it turns in, washes out, then turns in again all in the same turn lol. I love driving it hard, but it takes some practice.
      But to answer your questions, I think it’s just as nimble as before. Better even.

    I really hope car manufacturers move away from touch screen and back to the wheel movement system. I had a A3 with the older MMI and it was so intuitive to use on the move rarely ever having to take my eyes of the road while using it. I have since moved to an A6 and the system in it is awful to use on the move. The screens are low so you are constantly taking your eyes off the road to fiddle around. And you have to constantly clean the bloody screens as the when they get to many finger prints they are hard to read.

      All car sites quote before on-road price stating that the on-road price varies from state to state. Drives me crazy (pun) as the variance between states is minor and nowhere near the difference between not including on-roads. They may as well say 'Priced from fifty bucks plus some more money".

    Why is maximum torque now at 4,000 rpm rather than 3250 rpm in the previous model? Does anyone know? It would make the previous model far more drivable in my view.

    • @graemedunn5824
      @graemedunn5824 2 года назад

      I don't know, but I own/have owned both, and I feel the new one has just as much grunt down low. I bet it has about the same amount of torque at 3250RPM as the old one, but slightly more at 4000RPM. It would be good to see the torque curve.

    • @club1fan552
      @club1fan552 2 года назад

      @@graemedunn5824 You're probably right. I used to own a '90 323 Astina SP that didn't develop maximum torque until 4,500 rpm but had considerable torque much lower down aided no doubt, by very short gearing which is one reason why I sold it as constant gear changing and the engine screaming at 80 km/h in 4th drove me insane.

    Torsion bar rear suspension to save cost for Mazda, but the result is just a disappointing ordinary ride quality without the desirable compliance of a multi link
    set up like Toyota Camry ( which has it ) and to my mind, a far superior driving experience.

    why didn't you mention the lack of vision? It is the worst in its class! so much so that you have to rely on cameras everywhere. Even driving into a shopping center you can't see over the bulbous bonnet. . .so then a front camera turns on and you are expected to take you eyes off the road and look down at the screen.

    Well, contrary to what they said here, Mazda didn't promote high-quality audio being democratically available on any car here. Currently you can get it only on one of 3 trims (the most expensive, of course), and only within an optional package containing other, quite useless, features: thus you have to spend something like $4000 to get the better audio system, and other extras that are useless.
    Thumbs down for that.
