    I have a 2021 Turbo premium plus sedan and I hit 80,000 miles a few days ago. Before it I owned a 2019 NA Mazda3, and I traded up to the turbo during COVID when prices were low and I could haggle ($31,000, which was $500 under msrp). I’ve had zero issues with engine reliability (my vin doesn’t fall under the TSB, thankfully); the rear differential blew during a cross-country road trip at 36,000 miles, but that was replaced quickly under warranty, and I think it had something to do with doing donuts for ~30 mins straight in the snow lol. Even when it was blown, the car was completely drivable in 2WD, and kind of fun since it would do an extended burnout every time I floored it. It is much quicker than the NA. The best 0-60 I got in my 2019 was 7.6s, while my 2021 does 5.3s (verified with dragy).

      @Leo Sheppard I totally agree with you that it's not about driving fast on autobahn. It's about how well a car drives and real world economy. Mazdas are quite limp with low torque at high rpm, you cannot accelerate fast enough in autobahn and that put you in a dangerous situation. And with mazdas you have to constantly change gear and nurse the car in its sweet spot to get good economy. On top of all, for the Audi momey you pay for mazdas, you don't get audi build quality, audi driving dynamics and audi real world economy, and I am talking about a car that is 500kg heavier than mazda 3 & CX-30. A decent speced mazda 3 costs 35k, and you still don't get the good options and independent rear suspension. Brand new audi with great standard equipment is just 4k more than mazda. It makes no senae to pay 35k for mazda,l. I'd say yes, if mazda 3 was lets say 20k-25k, but 35k-40k? No way!

    • @ralkia
      @ralkia Год назад +5

      @@ampm9771 it really depends where you live. Mazda 3s are $22k in the USA. Unfair to compare the price of top and base trims of two brands. It's not economical for people to own European cars in America due to the regular dealer/specialized service they need, as they get gouged by American dealers and have to pay 2-3x more than you would in Europe.
      Audi, BMW, Benz all have poor reputation for reliability in the States primarily due to the way dealer service and experience works. Americans expect to drive cars 100k-200k miles and only have to do oil changes, which is why they drive American and Japanese cars more than European.

    • @ampm9771
      @ampm9771 Год назад +2

      @@ralkia Here the top trim Mazda 3 with all the bells and whistles cost 38k. On the other hand, brand new base model Audi A4 Avant costs 40k. Base model Audi A4 comes better equipped than top trim Mazda 3 and I am not even considering the fact that A4 eclipses mazda 3 in power, handling, ride quality, safety and of course practicality. I currently have an A4 with 330,000km on the clock and the only things I have to change is the oil and filter. Of course if I have to change lets say the wheel bearing, I do it myself. No matter how much I love Mazda 3, I cannot close my eyes on the fact that A4 is the only rational and correct choice. With an Audi, parts are easily available online and you can just buy and replace the part yourself. Besides, I don't have to worry about thin 0w20 oil that is twice more expensive than full-synthetic 5w30 that Audi needs. If well maintained, Audis are bulletproof. I have been to thick and thin with my A4 and it has never let me down. It makes sense in north america, but not here. Besides, I don't have to worry about crazy ideas such as cylinder deactivation that would wear my soul out every drive. Twice I have been burned by buying cars with my heart (Fiat and Alfa Romeo), I won't make the same mistake for the 3rd time.

    I recently bought the 2023 Mazda CX-30 in Platinum Quartz Metallic -- the slightly bigger sibling to the Mazda 3. I really love it. It's been a very long time since I hopped in a vehicle and felt this sort of enthusiasm. Most modern vehicles in this segment (and slightly larger segments) feel more or less similar to one another in terms of quality, safety and features. The Mazda is different. It really feels premium, fun and driver-oriented. It's obviously on the smaller side (it is a subcompact, after all). However, the vehicle is, well, a joy to drive. I look forward to drives that used to feel mundane in my other vehicles. I recently returned from an April camping trip near Mt. Shasta. So, I drove the vehicle through the dirt, mud and snow. Not only did it conquer those elements, but it still felt exciting and fun.
    My CX-30 replaced a larger Ford Explorer (V6). Yet, this Mazda feels like it has more zip from start to finish. It lacks the height and space (obviously); however, it is great for our little family (just my wife and me so far). It's not too small for rear passengers on relatively short drives either. Still, it's a beautiful vehicle that feels more like an extension of the driver than a mundane and less powerful Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai or even Subaru.
    I started out my research ready to buy a Toyota or Honda. I considered a Ford Bronco Sport and even a Hyundai Santa Cruz (until I understood some of the quality issues currently plaguing Ford and Hyundai). So, my only other consideration was Subaru. I took a good, long look at Subaru (mostly the Crosstrek and Forester). Ultimately, the CX-30 with its standard AWD, lack of CVT (woohoo), higher level of quality and greater power just made the decision easier. It really came down to the Mazda 3 Hatch or the CX-30. For the slightly better room, we went with the latter.
    It still feels like an incredible value for what we paid.

    I bought a 2023 premium trim in black on 10-25-22 and it now has 14,022 miles. My chief complaints are the super scratch prone black gloss interior surfaces, for the price theres an unreasonable amount of interior rattling that seems to be very temperature sensitive. Like you can turn your front defroster on full blast in the cold and after a few minutes the rattling will stop. Plastic expanding/contracting. Also rattling in the HUD module most often, as though the little door that closes isnt very secure.
    Overall though, i love this car. Minor annoyances that could be improved upon, but a car with these kinds of features and this attractive of an interior/exterior design for the price must has have a catch, in my opinion. Love the 2.5 sky active and manual transmission. Have a 2017 Mazda6 touring with almost 100k. Has been bullet proof and loads of fun. The engine really has the perfect blend of HP and torque throughout the RPM range. The handling is quality. My only mod (other than a few cosmetic items) was for slotted brakes which have made a definite difference for the good on the braking. Can't say enough about the normally aspirated 2.5 or the manual. They are perfect together.

      Completely agree! While AWD was the deal breaker for Zach, the manual is the deal breaker for me. I am always prowling for the next car with a manual I will purchase. Truly would love to see the turbo mated with the manual, but I am fairly certain the cost to strengthen the manual to handle the added HP and torque would be a supreme financial mess for mazda. Unfortunately too many people want to be preoccupied with their phones and less focused on driving their car.

    2022 Mazda3 GT AWD (in the US it's called Premium package) 2.5 NA. I took delivery in Feb 2022, got the airbag light issue, it was a lot of back and forth with the dealer before I got a service advisor who knew about the service bulletin.
    But I've got this other problem with the rear center seatbelt sensor, it constantly chimes when somebody sits in the right rear seat.
    You know, one of my favorite things about this car is the lack of touchscreen because I struggle too hard with touchscreens in a moving vehicle, the joystick knob is pleasing to use and let's me complete functions based on muscle memory instead of taking my eyes off the road. I wish I got the stick shift as that's what I rest drove before ordering. Found out an AWD had been ordered and the customer changed their mind and got a cx5 instead so I claimed it. It was still in dock in Hiroshima and I only had to wait 3 months instead of 6.

    Mazda batteries are shit and car doesn't manage well drowned battery.
    Just bought a new one, 360 miles when 1st problem came... battery got drained (still don't understand how that happened...).
    Impossible to start the car, impossible to jumpstart it, even with professional assistance coming with very powerful jumpstart kit.
    The software got all wonky and have to bring it to the dealership, and then the worst:
    Despite being a brand new car and me being a brand new customer, Mazda Roadside Assistance is a piece of shit too. They won't cover anything beyond 20 miles from where you are, they are not helpful and they want me to pay to tow back my car 200 miles away, not mentioning that we have to take trains to get to where we MUST be tomorrow.

I have noticed some minor clicks and creeks in the cabin, specifically the glove box as mentioned in the video. One major complaint I have is the sidewall of the seats. Literally had terrible creasing in mine since sub 500 miles, and I’m meticulous about getting in and out of it as to not put too much pressure on the side of the seat. Never heard abt the paint chipping issues, had mine ceramic coated professionally right after I bought it anyways so guess I’m very glad I did that.

    I have purchased my Mazda 3 in 2019 when it came out in Europe. Mine has the base engine, but alle the other upgrades. So far I had only issues with the braking sensor (sometimes going off with no reason), the door sensor noch reacting (in cold weather or rainy weather) as well as my battery dying after 4 years (yesterday). I do have minor rattle every once in a while (especially at hotter temps) and i have seen my rimms getting scratched very easaly. At the same time there was a recall in 2020 for my car where they adressed a bug in their software that had to do with the parking assistant and distance assistant. Other than that I love the car and i do not regret puchasing it. I should have gone for the 2020 version though with the better engine and the AWD.
    My next car will surely be a Mazda again, if they keep the amazing exterior and interior design and the very reliable engine and all the safety feautres (best in class).
    Also fuel economy is pretty good as well. I drive at about 6,8L at 100 Km, though i mostly drive in rural areas / often in traffic jams. On motorways that are relatively flat I can get down to about 5,7L at 100 Km.

    Many of the common issues you list were from early 2019 production runs. The rear view mirror falling off was from early Mexico built cars. The AC issue was a 2019 issue that I believe was primarily the ones without a sunroof where it was overheating to compensate for a sunroof that was not there.

    Owner of a 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback w/ the 2.5L engine, currently at just under 180k miles, and I gotta say after putting 100k miles on my Mazda, I gotta say it's been one of the most reliable, fun, and affordable cars I've ever owned, these things will run forever if you keep them up to date on maintenance, I just did quite a bit on mine last month but for what I have into the car it's low compared to most of my former cars that I've owned, I think my Next car will be another Mazda, Toyota, or a Hyundai as this is my 3rd Mazda I've owned in the last 15 years of driving but I've also owned over 30+ cars and thankfully when Mazda kicked Ford to the curb that was the best thing they ever did for the company as a whole, Ford is the last auto maker I will ever recommend in my life as they make terrible products and cars, I mean look at their current path... it's dogshit if you ask me... all this EV Shit is sad to say the least, hell at least hyundai is actually putting up a good fight to keep car enthusiasts excited, but I definitely keeping my 3 Hatch for a long time

    the reason prices are up is that car makers are trying to force us to buy SUVs. i hate this shift so much as it speaks to how growth/profit at all cost mentality is taking over everything and ruining quality options. im shopping now and i just hate all forms of SUV especially when i see so many single people using them as daily commuters driving alone and rarely doing anything that needs that much space.
    also just found your channel and its cool to see we live in the same town

    This car is great but I have to say the Crystal Red color is so soft, every little thing causes the paint to almost fall off, there is not such thing a small scratches, every little nick causes paint to chip, Although it is the most beautiful red Ive seen in many cars soo maybe its worth it? idk, great car though.

    Seeing a lot of valuable input here from Mazda owners. Having been fortunate to have had now five Mazda 3 vehicles (2009i, 2015s GT, 2018 GT, 2021 AWD turbo hatchbacks, and now a 2023 AWD turbo hatchback), I see a number of common problems mentioned throughout this thread, some of which I've experienced myself. No major issues, but a number of minor ones. The not so good things: The Soul Red/Soul Red Crystal paint on my 2015 - 2021 hatchbacks chipped far too easily. It's a beautiful color, but not very durable. Neither the dealer nor Mazda offered any help with the paint problem. The brakes really don't inspire a lot of confidence, especially in a panic stop, and the rotors tend to warp noticeably within the first 20k miles. The batteries in my 2021 and 2018 were on their way out after 2 years. The piano black interior trim will scratch if you even LOOK at it the wrong way. That's what happens when you put a purely decorative finish on a functional surface. An annoying driver's window frame rattle in my 2021 hatch would appear whenever the outside temp got below 40°F. I've also noticed the same rattle in my 2023 hatch. The rear suspension in my 2021 AWD was absolutely brutal over any type of pavement bump or hole. Maybe "jarring" is a better way to describe it. That was definitely the most unsatisfying thing about that car. The 2021 hatch also felt a bit rough around the edges when compared to my other hatches, and the quality control on my 2018 (Mexico) hatch seemed to be better than the 2021(Japan) hatch. I did notice some unexpected oil consumption in the 2021 turbo, but that seemed to taper off by the time I traded it in @ 26k miles. The 18" wheels are prone to bending if they take a good hit from potholes, etc. My two Gen 3 hatches (2015, 2018) were more fun to drive on really twisting roads than my two Gen 4 hatches. Now, the good things: Not the cheapest brand out there, but a lot of features and value for the money. Typically, Mazdas don't have regular or repeated recalls like a lot of other car brands do. It's much more stylish than many other car brands. Generally, I've noticed that the little annoyances from each model year actually got addressed by Mazda. The 2.5L NA version was fun to drive, but adding the turbo was LONG overdue in this car, and gave it the kind of boost (no pun intended) that it's really needed for so long. The back seat really isn't as cramped or tight for most people as everyone says it is. Cargo space behind the rear seat isn't what you would call spacious, but we've packed it with four suitcases for road trips and still had space available. Obviously, gas mileage for the turbo version isn't nearly as good as my NA Mazdas have been, but I've managed to get 39+ MPG from the turbo on the highway as long as you drive it sensibly. But, then, where's the fun in that? I think most people who buy the turbo version probably aren't too concerned about gas mileage. Some of the driving fun may have have been lost in the transition from Gen 3 to Gen 4, but it's still a fun car to thrash around. Is it quick? It's quick enough. It's not a Mazdaspeed 3 but, right now, it's the closest thing we have from Mazda.

    Bought a CPO 2019 Mazda3 hatchback AWD with 18.5k on the clock for $22,000 few months ago. I love driving it. Wish it was a manual but it's a no go when Mazda barely had any cars on their lot. So I don't mind the automatic. In my early 40s and wanted a sporty practical hatch, light, and nimble, that can tackle the New England snow. Looking at the GTI and was turned off by the reliability. Same with the Civic 1.5t which has oil dilution problems in cold weather and in New England, there's plenty of cold weather. The 2.0na Civic manual was way underpowered at 155hp. Wasn't interested in Subaru. Sure, I love the Hemi and pony cars, but it wouldn't work as a commuter, didn't want to go BMW again for maintenance cost. With the Mazda, I can use all the power without being a hazard to the public and it's known to be simple and reliable. My only issue with the Mazda3 is the low doorline for getting in and out of the car, stock wheels are too heavy at 26lbs for 18x7, OE tires are junk (switched to P Zero AS UHP which are 4lbs lighter each at 19lbs per corner), and it's a little underpowered for the chassis. An even 200HP would've been real nice. A drop in K&N, a Magnaflow, and 93 octane (no tune) should help bump the power up a little. I'll wait for next spring to get some lightweight 18-19lbs forge wheels. That should transform the car big time. Rotation mass is huge for low HP cars.
    I once owned a 2000 Civic Si new, and that weighed 2650lbs, manual, no drivers aide, not even ABS, and it redline at 8000 RPM and it constantly saw 8000 RPM.

    the awd really does kick ass, it will pull itself out of snow just idling in drive.
    Ive got a 21 turbo hatch. I did have an early oil light come on and I brought it to the dealer only for them to discover that the original dealer I had bought it from used the wrong oil filter for my first oil change. Ill see how this latest batch of oil does with the correct filter.

      @@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 No doubt, in my particular use case it doesn't bother me much. Probably wouldn't want to track it though.
