- The design of latest Mazda3 hatch has polarised opinion, but a new sedan version has arrived to calm the debate, with more traditional lines and a huge boot.

This man has such a pleasant voice. I feel like I could listen to him talk about customer trends on sedans for hours.
Finally a review on a G20 Touring model. I got a hatch version and cannot wait for it to arrive.
Liked your review very much, Fluid and factual. One area virtually every reviewer is missing is that all Mazda vehicles are built in Japan. Making them the last affordable Japanese car company that still builds cars with the goal of trouble free until 200k miles. No CVT transmissions and few turbos. Engineering shortcuts that are making vehicles disposable.
Lastly, the new Sky-Active X technology could prove revolutionary with Ultra clean emissions, possibly neutralizing the overall benefits of today’s electric vehicles. Go Mazda!
What a beautiful well proportioned compact vehicle. SUVs and crossovers are eyesores...
Looks great in red which is the signature colour of Mazda.. 🚗
This reviewer is very professional and touched all relevant points.
I like your review style. Easy to listen to. Measured. No pathetic attempts at 'humour'. No information overload. However, as with too many reviewers, you ignored the spare wheel situation. Does it have one?
Hi Kitti, Glad you liked the video. The spare is a speed-limited space-saver. If you'd like more detail, my written review is here - www.carsguide.com.au/car-reviews/mazda-3-sedan-2019-review-g20-touring-75366. Cheers, JC
Great review. I bought a 2019 hatch in snowflake white in May and it’s so beautiful inside with full soft leathers. Could be new benchmark in this segment now
Not to me, very claustrophobic interior and still has a bit of a Japanese cheapness in some parts. Overall it does look nice though.
@@bigchief2331 took one for a test drive I had the opposite impression, the interior looked amazing, clean and luxurious. Each to their own I guess.
Big Chief, every car in that segment has some cheapness inside due to hard plastics - no escape from that...even some of the premium/luxury ones.
hello, i'm curious is there any rattle noises anything that fails in quality?
@@vladimircorsair Yes, there is rattle noise coming from the rear view mirror and the dashboard. Hopefully they fix these issues.
I have the base model of this 2019 Mazda 3 sedan and let me tell you, there’s nothing basic about it. Besides how great it looks, the performance is fantastic and I always have a blast driving it. Best car I’ve ever owned.
I thought I was listening to Tim Cook reviewing Mazda 3 😄😄😄🏎🏎🏎
Hi James
Thanks for your excellent reviews. I have watched a fair few of your videos & always wonder which farewell word you’ll say at the end.
I needed a suggestion. I’m tossing up between buying Mercedes A180 Sedan with AMG styling, seat comfort & vision package etc or Mazda 3 X20 Astina. I know they cater to different markets. But in terms of drive (power), technology & safety which one would you suggest. Thank you
Such an excellent review!
Gorgeous car. Much better design than the hatch.
Really great review! Question: Ford Focus or Mazda 3 in terms of value?
Hi Brad, This review may help in providing an answer - www.carsguide.com.au/car-reviews/kia-cerato-gt-vs-hyundai-i30-n-line-vs-ford-focus-st-line-vs-mazda-3-g25-evolve-74829. James C
This would be perfect if it just had an Octavia style lift back
No idea why Mazda decided not to give rear vents in the USA market !
because the us regulations doesn't allow for nice stuff ;)
Neither has the german version. And no english reviewer has mentioned the sunglasses storage at the rear mirror.
Thank you for this informative review. Hatchbacks are nice and practical, but in case of this new Mazda 3, hatch is much less practical than the sedan, having less volume , but the same high rear part and the same trunk opening height.
Great review!
Gosh is gorgeous looking and being a Mazda, it'll go forever. That aperture for the boot though, is ridiculous and the 3 isn't a small car like the 323 was which is a bit of a shame really.
2:58 only Women would use the boot to store a freakin’ purse...
HAHAHAHAHAH
Because men don't carry a purse to begin with....
2019 Toyota Hiace vs Ford Transit Custom, please!!
I’m thinking Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla sedan so I can rest my v8 ssv redline series 2
Great review, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, JT. Cheers, JC
Do you have video for mazda 6 and Nissan altima
Altima is no longer available in Australia.
You can tell a sedan driver he's got a hunch back not for me give me my nice comfortable suv any day.
SUV's definitely much more comfortable, but the drive of a hatchback or sedan is much nicer. I do like the extra visibility and ease of entry/exit of a SUV though. I would not buy this Mazda 3, I think there are better cars to be had for a lot less money.
Keith Isaacs SUV’s are for old people and young families, cannot best the drive of a nice sedan
The sedan looks awesome, the hatch is super ugly, looks like an egg.
The sedan looks decent. The hatch is truly the ugly duckling of the range and interesting to know which design (hatch or sedan) was completed first.
We want compares Hyundai alintra and Toyota Corolla
Its a shame that they are not using a touch screen for "safety." I would argue that it is more unsafe trying to follow a cursor from a parallax position. I honestly think they wanted to look more premium is the main thought process similar to Lexus and their similar setup.
Saad Sircar No. Much harder to hit small touch points with your arms bouncing around as you drive along than just rest your hand on a nice rotary controller and do most things by feel without even looking
@@YZJB I hear you but in this case, it feels like how I have mentioned. The things you have mentioned can be mitigated with proper screen size, icons and distance from the drive to reach. Other manufacturers such as Audi (watch straightpipes for their infotainment focus they only do) and not to mention Tesla. Lexus has been getting flack for it and I even used the 2019 model IS350 and it crazy how unsafe it is. (Lexus fanboy here).
Nice!
Nice Milgauss
えっ、後席にベンチレーションの吹き出し口がある。日本仕様にはなかったような・・・。
Why not use Turbocharger with 8 speed transmission?
Ahmednt why not add a V8 and have a 12 speed truck transmission?
@@XQoozMii 🧐😒
Beats me, it would definitely make them a lot better to drive. Mazda ruined the value equation with the new 3, and used waaaaay too much black inside so it feels very claustrophobic. I've sat in the hatch and was more impressed with the Peugeot 308 in allure spec with that glorious panoramic roof. Nice perky turbo engine too.
Lone Wolf Because turbo with 8-speed auto is the benchmark in this segment.
Garry56 but a V8 and a 12 speed truck transmission would be the new benchmark.
6:18 Mazda 3 hatch 2nd gen
Do the wheels stay on?
The old MG at 6-36 and at 7-19 👍👍
Note: Put away your fingerring, next time you are near brand new paintwork...! (3:44)
You know there is a known defect on the wheels on all Hatch Mazda 3 that will cause the wheels to fly off mid-travel right?
and based on that this car should be a -1000/10
I think throughout the whole nation only one car had "one" lose nut. Its the media blowing it up and attracting those like you with your useless comments.
@@dkvtek Nope. Not only were my lugs loose but so were my axle bolts too. I had the car for two months before I sold it. It was the worst car I have ever owned. Total junk.
Tremendously disappointing car. The value equation is gone with the over the top price rise, and it still feels very Japanese despite their attempt to move upmarket and rival European cars. It is also far too claustrophobic inside, very uncomfortable for a long journey I would imagine.
@Joe Blogs You obviously never tried the Peugeot 308 and 3008/5008 with the nappa leather option, that is HEAVEN. Even the standard alcantara and pleather is beautiful, they hug you in. Both of them also have massage function.
@Joe Blogs That will wear off quickly. Big Chief is right the car is claustrophobic. Furthermore, getting in and out is not comfortable. It is an ergonomic nightmare.
@Joe Blogs I owned one and got rid of it after 2,500 miles. In the two months of ownership, the rear view mirror glass fell off, the drivers side seat control panel fell out, the rear seat latches stopped working and would not latch back into place and the dash made an annoying clunking sound on the passenger side. The dealer tried to fix these issues but they just came back again. But the worst part of all was when I realized how cheaply this car was made. The C pillar is thin as foil (press on it and you will see), the hood prop is like an cheap antenna (why didn't they just put hood struts), the glove box inside is made out of plastic soda bottle material, the seat frame is thin cheap pot metal. Even the dashboard is hollow (press above the glove box on the dashboard). The cylinder deactivation does absolutely nothing to give it better gas mileage and just over complicates the already problematic engine. And there are serious recalls now. So glad I got rid of it.
@Joe Blogs Mine was made in Japan. Furthermore, the complaints I have are about the actual parts not how they were assembled. The parts are the exact same across both countries of origin. The car is junk either way.
@Joe Blogs Sorry Joe but the truth hurts sometimes. Here are a couple of the latest recalls to help you sleep better at night.
Mazda didn't know that stalling while in motion was a bad idea)

Another recall (they apparently didn't know that your wheels flying off is not a good thing) www.caranddriver.com/news/a28244236/2019-mazda-3-recall-wheel-lug-nut/
How that cheap hood prop holding up? lol...Don't blame the messenger.

Club 1 Fan Mazdas of recent years don’t go forever because of direct injection engine tech. That’s why Toyota/Lexus stick with port injection and dual port/direct injection as DI-only would compromise longevity.

I own a 2.5 model in the USA, the interior rattles terribly. Do the ones in Europe do that as well? I love the car but I wanna know if you guys have the same issues across the pond.
@@jamessteven526 The interior should not rattle in any new Mazda. Quality control is usually excellent. Hope you took it back!
@@club1fan552 oh I figured it out since then. Your cars over there are manufactured in Japan, ours are not. Mine came from Mexico and quality is different. The dealer ended up fixing it, the interior door panel was missing screws apparently. It's good now.
