Definitely different energy. Certainly sloppier, and I don't mean that in a bad way at all if that makes sense. His style just isn't tight, it's more high energy. It's different, but I like it. This is from a huge Derek fan. Lol
Derek was amazing and will always be missed but damn Atom really kills it with the trio(Like he does with pretty muhc any band he's in)! The best replacement they could have gotten probably, hope they come to Sweden soon!
@@anggerprasetyowibowo5728 Indeed, I have always been a fan of Derek and he is one of my biggest drumming inspirations but I sadly have to admit it wasn't too fun to watch videos of him on the latest tours. He played very soft and had no energy(Which is totally understandable considering his condition), he didn't seem to enjoy it. He was awesome to watch in his prime(Like from the 90s to about 2014). Glad Atom brings that energy he had back to the Trio now!
Word for all the atom Willard supporters just wait until we hear the new alkaline trio material , you know with atom in the studio (have you guys heard Lektron?) atom and Matt’s side project .

Skiba has some remarkably high vocal parts for a male voice. The keys many of their songs are in are high on the male voice. It’s incredibly hard for singers to maintain that over and over again on tour night after night and not have days where it’s blown out or where they have to take it easy. Skiba and the boys (myself as well) aren’t in their 20’s or even 30’s anymore. Best to just appreciate the live show for what it is.
Yeah I feel like Alkaline shaped so much of their sound over the past 20 years around Derek’s style of drumming and I will admit this is way different, Atom is an amazing drummer tho, I think they will find some middle ground.

Derek is irreplaceable, but Atom is a fantastic fucking drummer and the best possible person for the job. He brings a different energy and I dig it.

Derek played this songs for over 15 years… but I agree these songs don’t sound the same live without Derek. It’s almost like a cover band

He hasn't played with them for long here. Very straight forward. Derek had a lot of subtle stuff only drummers would hear that were really bad ass.
