Everyone here giving Lars shit for his drumming but it needs to be pointed out that he's not out of time here, there's just a slight delay between what's coming out of the speakers that's been processed and the actual live sound of the drums that the camera is picking up. I have first hand experience with this. I seen Metallica at Slane Castle in the pit and the sound was great but as soon as they came out for the encore on the walkway where they were within spitting distance of me I could hear both the actual live drums right in front of me as well as coming out through the P.A. and there was a slight delay. Not to mention I have a background in sound engineering and a small delay is to be expected, especially if what you're hearing coming out of the PA has to account for travel around a stadium (depending on where you are in relation to any particular line arrays or what have you.) That's why it sounds so out of time from the guitars here. The phone camera is only picking up the live drums in front of him but the guitars are being heard after going through the desk and out through the P.A. Not to mention also having a lot of reverb rom the stadium on top of them. I'm not here defending Lars, but it's important to note from a technical standpoint why this sounds "out of time."

People hating Lars but forget to appreciate that without him we wouldn’t have this music. We should really appreciate and be thankful that they boys are still around….performing and giving people a good time.
Lol at all the people saying he's off beat in this video, you're hearing the reverb of being in a massive arena. It's best to be farther away at arena shows if you want a good audio experience. He's got in-ear monitors and hears the rest of the band in real time, you are only hearing him in real time.
Basement musicians don't know about these in-ear monitors and big arenas unfortunately 😂
Uhhmm no he's just off time. Speeds up within the first 4 measures
@@rod3355 you might be deaf my friend, they use click tracks live now
@@KyleJPie10What are you talking about, just literally click count with the video and you can immediately tell he's off. Let alone drumming to a completely different track around 2:35 😂
Yeah dude, this video is right next to him and he’s still off. Plus on the records. That argument ain’t gonna get you too far. He’s iconic, and he may be the best drummer for Metallica, but that doesn’t mean he’s a great drummer.
Strong tounge game! Living legend. No Ulrich, No metallica
He is just lucky he is with Metallica from the start, if not for that he wouldn't even be any near a band.
@@Shimabuku We all Metallica fans are lucky that he was with Metallica from the start.
Everyone can learn drum technique, but not all cant learn song writing ( that is worth listen to)
@@christofferfrom5933 I agree with that, when it comes to song writing he is good.
Cope
I love you Lars❤❤❤❤❤
The guy pays no attention to what he's even playing. He just plays whatever he wants and Metallica is good enough to make it work. The entire band is flawless, except for Lars.
Can he play anything exactly like he does on the album? Like literally every band ever?
No 2 takes are the same for Lars. The fills start and end whenever he wants. Lol. Its wild.
Don't think Kirk Hammet is flawless, it would be nice if he could let the wahwah rest for a while. All solos are a constant wahwah jerkoff nowadays, and it is simply to much.
Lars The GOAT.
When I started playing drums, I learned by playing Metallica songs..... Whatever that means.
This is fucking Rad !! Lars kicking ass and hell yes to the US AF \m/
In a recent interview Lars said he dropped about 20 lbs getting in shape for this tour.
Happy Birthday Lars
Love his drum set! He is Awsome drummer!
Hahaha
Hahahahah
bro was spitting up a storm
Music isn’t a contest. Music is art. Art is subjective. That band worked hard on their art. P.S. I’m not really a fan of Metallica but I certainly respect what they were able to accomplish.
@@Shmeeby9411I am
Someone gave him Ritsu's kit, lmao.
In all seriousness tho, yellow looks good on drums.
Envious doesn't even come close!!
Honestly hope everyone had a great time!
Not only is Lars MetallicA's drummer but he's also the in-house arranger. Some of their biggest songs/riffs wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for Lars. I never take anyone seriously if they like to talk shit about Lars.
2, 3, 4! Ta-tatatata
Tempo is like the ocean.
Give 'em credit. They've been playing live since they were 18.... 40 years ago.
Longevity kids, respect it.
Thank you, Mr. Ulrich.🫶🏻
Just chilled out enjoying his job playing the song He's played a million times having a good time
Now I missed his Orange and his purple drum kit but now it's the Yellow kit with the black Snare that's cool. I thought he was gonna use his Black Album drum kit like in the Lux Æterna video but I guess not. But yeah I really missed his Orange and the Purple drum kit.
To all his haters. He’s the drummer in Metallica, and you’re not.
and he's the worst drummer in all Metallica ! ask James and Kirk !
What even is your point?
@@matthewprather189 My point is there are a lot of bitter and jealous people in the world.
@@monkswhiskers3354 I dont wanna be a professional musician so no Im not jealous, if anything, Im glad Im not as bad as he is. Money, Fame or not, him being in a famous band doesnt mean he is the reason its famous...
@@bottomtext251 got some bad news for you child -> it is one of the main reasons.
Very slick looking drum set, Mr. Ulrich.
I remember watching this when I was first getting into Jaco. Great solo!
lars`s drumming is sad but true
Amen
I don't get it, whats wrong with it?
@@brigwood7658 everything. Drumming is dead simple yet he can't even hold the beat properly.
@@xIcarus227 It's a straight 4 - isn't this what he's doing? Happy to be proven wrong, so .... where isn't he "even holding the beat properly"? and what should I be listening out for, e.g is he losing/dropping time? or speeding up/slowing down? (excluding of course if/when it serve's the song to do so)? or is he at odds with the band in someway? (lagging, pushing)? Keen to know!
@@brigwood7658 that's what he's doing, but he isn't keeping it tight. the most obvious examples:
1:13 the last two snare hits on the end of the fill are rushed
1:59 that segment is rushed
2:43 he stood up and didn't enter back into the song on time
and as a general rule his fills just don't sound tight. I don't mind the lack of complexity in his playing, it's perfectly fine to have simple drums, but look at someone like the drummer from ACDC as a positive example. everything he does sounds so tight and on-time.
Those are the longest sticks I've ever seen
Short arms need long sticks
It's lars who is small. Makes the sticks look bigger.
I want drumsticks too😭
Got one from him backstage on the 1989 tour 🤘 still got it framed with the signed album, backstage pass & ticket
KFC is right own the street bro

The kid only has 40 years of experience. Give him some slack.

Lifetime is not enough for Lars😅
Was a great show yesterday, enjoyed it
Да Ларс красавчик, кто бы что не говорил!!!! Металлика - это кайф!
Man, what an awesome dude. Hands that kid a pair of fresh sticks, mid concert. Class act.
