My humble opinion is Lars got A LOT hate before because of Napster, which was a understandable, but the band changed. They became hard rock with not much thrash. So has he gotten better? No... Is he still awesome? Fuck yeah. Metallica has 5 solid first albums that challenged the greats and in the process became one.

Marty McTrap Touring is tough man and I am a touring drummer so I think I know at least a little about it. Big shows like that a lot of things have to come together to make it happen they’re working a big production playing in the round which is very hard part of the reason why a lot of bands only vary their setlist from leg to leg is that they have all the songs in a running order that corresponds to the lighting package they’re working with and how the FOH engineer hear the show and present it to the audience stage sound is way way different to the front of house mix that gets sent from the board through the PA, and unfortunately man some songs just sound shitty live either the production can’t be replicated or the band just can’t nail it. I agree it’s frustrating man but shows like this the fewer risks the better.

They change their set list up quite often and they do lots of cool little extras during the show, remember the Metallica boys are pushing 60 these days and play harder and faster than most half their age and all of the ones the same age..
I saw them in 2017 at the start of the "Hardwired" tour in Orlando and they were amazing, they blew away Volbeat and Avenged sevenfold...... one of these days they won't be around anymore and the world won't be the same\m/

Kirk gets a lot of hate from guitarists, but I think his contributions to Metallic are equally important. He may overuse the wah and pentatonic scales, but his solos are memorable and I find them highly musical and uplifting. Vai is techically better, sure, but I've never heard a good Vai solo or song. His best was Yankee Rose.. and it's simple.
