I first heard Orion when I was 13. Today I am 50 and it still moves me every time I hear it.

Robert has been the bass player for 20 years. Cliff for 4 years. The comments here are talking about Cliff. Goes to show what a huge impact he had. But also, guys, Robert has been killing it for 20 years! Respect

@@watersmoke1114jason was good, but the sound that burtom amd trujillo get with the fingers, plus the style and the things that cliff did (his incredible and unique tone) that trujillo honors, i think that jason wasnt the right bassist for metallica judging by the pov of a bassisf too
Rob has been killing it for at least 33 years. Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Metallica. One of the best to ever do it. Overqualified for Metallica, but deserves the paycheck.

@@johnyoungsman7752 Hmn. There is no reality where Metallica anywhere infinitely > than Suicidal And i'm pretty sure every single member of Metallica would agree on that. I know that Metallica has done Ozzy Era Sabbath cove4rs and done them well, ...not least with with Trujillo on board> But have never heard that in the reverse. Not least his bass playing in Infectious Grooves, which alone is leagues above anything Metallica has ever done with any bass player. they ever had. James isn;' a fan of bass. It's; quite apparent on basically ever album since Master. There is basically Zero bass. Not that is sounds bad but just a reality. And another reality is that Robert is a better musician than all of them combined. Almost hilariously.
Absolutely incredible groove! May Cliff Burton rest in peace.

Jason was amazing and is a fantastic player but Rob brings a little bit of Cliff back and it you can feel it at a concert.

I’ve heard it so many times it’s hard to hear it again with fresh ears, but Orion really is a masterpiece.
I honestly haven’t followed much from these guys since the early 90s but watching this, it’s like they’ve come full circle. Back to just being a band. And fully enjoying what they’ve accomplished. Really cool to see.
They’re in a great place at the moment and are playing better than they have done for a long time, while enjoying it more!

@@jameswilson461 Saw them at Download and that was my big take away from the shows. They are straight up enjoying themselves. The hardly strayed far away from the drum riser and really played together. It was particularly nice to see James having such a good time, laughing and joking. A o cool thing adopt download, was that on their first night, there was weird atmospheric conditions, a layer of cold air got trapped close to the ground by a layer of warm air. This meant the sound bounced down off the warm air and traveled further than it should, lots of reports of being able to hear the gig clearly 20-30 miles away lol

I stood about 4 feet to the left of the person filming this, getting an indent from the railing. This is my top favorite song of all time and to hear it live at the site, is magical and epic. So happy.

@@peterbulloch4611 yes very, they rotated around the stage bc Lars has 4 drum kits. They finished off with fuel, seek, battery and master on our side of the stage

I paid $400 to see them up close for an entire show, not a small minority of the show.
I would feel very ripped off by this considering the people on the other side only saw an empty stage. They shouldn’t have had such a big stage
@@jd0879 i mean, i saw them a lot. As i said they rotate around the stage 4 times, så they were only on the oppsite side for 4 songs, and they finished off the show right in front of us. I even got a pick

I love how the lady who is "security" at the end turns around and is holding back the tears. Not a single person who is there needs Security, it's one big metal love in.

Pretty sure I'm right on this but there are actually 5 legends in this video as I think thats rock photographer Ross Halfin in the bottom left (mostly at the start of the video ) with the camera with the long lens. That guys a legend for sure, an untold amount of his photos have adorned bedroom walls for decades.

I been a Metallica fan since 1985 I am so glad that the band is still together after all those years and still selling out concerts they play music 🎶 for the fans it's not about money to them all of those guys are down to earth James love's to have fun when he is playing in front of a live crowd i will always be a Metallica fan until the day I die !!!!!!!!

I was listening to the first part of Orion on the way to my high school graduation last month.
After graduation and on the way to universal studios I listened to the 2nd part. It feels like a theme song to when you complete something in your life.
What an awesome way to start the show off with Orion as the day ends with a spectacular sunset.
They sound great, people who talk crap seam to forget they are 60yrs old play songs they wrote when they were 20yr old kids so stf up and enjoy them while we still have them because we are blessed \m/
it is always cool when you can directly hear the drum set not through the PA.
It`s almost like you can hear the guitar pick when Kirk plays the solos.
It is always cool to see it on video, but when you are there by yourself, the sound gets doubled, you hear the acoustic sound of the drums and then 0,3 seconds later or something you hear the amplified signal. It is not that much of thing, but it's pretty confusing.
But yeah, having the band near is cool AF!!!!🤘🤘🤘
This is someone who is talking out of their ass. It happened to me at Disturbed and it’s so distracting. The real drums sound take place milliseconds before the PA drums and it’s so distracting
Loved this song since I was 4 years old. 34 years later here I am watching them playing it love on RUclips. Wish I could have been at one of these shows. They’re in the best form of their lives.
Also, Cliff would be so proud to hear Rob playing this how he does.

I heard Orion for the first time live last week at Download. That middle section had me streaming in tears. There is just something so special about this song, and with Cliff’s passing it just has this mythical feeling to it. You can see the band’s connection with Cliff through this song, especially James. It’s a great way to honour their fallen brother.

Such a great video. The view angle makes it seem like some thing kind of trivial thing. It pulls off the legend, and brings close the people they are.
Being so close to them, with this kind of soft/deaf sound, which gives the recording a unique ambience.
So good seing James playing and re-feeling this amazing song, truly and deeply enjoing playing it alive, in front of this audience.
It doesn´t feel like a massive concert, but a bunch of friends meeting. So much love and tenderness...

Metallica is so well rehearsed. you can really tell with this song. All the subtle time signature changes. Prog rock helped shape Metallica's sound for sure.

Great to see four musicians get up on the stage in their normal street clothes, no costumes, no dancers, no backup musicians, no light show - just them and their instruments.
They are not just 4 musicians, they are also the Four Horsemen.

They let the original intro play. This song is the meaning of the word tribute, hands down. Cliff's sound engineering is unrivalled to this day, 40 years after his death. Rob filled his shoes perfectly. Respect to both.
