Shout out to Stryker for all the great interviews in 2021, 2022, & 2023; already starting off 2024 strong 🔥🔥
“I didn’t want to prove him wrong, I just wanted to make him proud”…as a father that quote goes a long way. Much props to his parents for their service and raising such a solid human.
That line struck me too.
Matt is always the sweetest, kindest person, hard to believe that’s the same guy who writes and sings about mutilation, pyromania, hell and the devil, etc.
we all have a dark side
I mean the saying never judge a book by its cover strikes true
Makes him EVEN sweeter! Hahaha
Man just saw Alkaline 3 a couple of days ago, and they were fantastic.
Matt and also Dan, but mostly Matt i think, was so taken by the whole thing. They've been on tour with this new album for a little bit already, but it somehow felt like it was his first time. He was genuinely grateful for everyone there, listening, singing, jumping around, and generally being there for them and their songs.
The Blink records with Matt are
great..
Good mourning WAS AMAZING !!!!! All on black is top 5 trio song ever!
Agree. Got a tattoo of a cross with a 4 leaf clover on it
Matt is definitely a huge reason why they got a Grammy nod. They should have won it for sure. Blink and Alkaline should be in the rock and roll hall of fame.
Yes sir
you do realize that blink has had grammy noms before skiba right?
They will be when the time comes
@@mmmmmmmhmmmm When was that?
@@mmmmmmmhmmmm nope, that was the first nom
I have loved Alkaline since my 20th birthday and the first time I met Matt it was in Florida in early 2008. He was the nicest person and we talked a lot. It was so cool meeting my hero and finding him to be such an amazing dude. I unfortunately met other musicians that were not so nice and I'll always treasure the memories with the band.
Matts voice is incredible on Good Mourning haha !
my favourite AT record
@@johnmccaffrey7021 Mine Too !
One of the greatest records. Trios work
what a freaking legend... Thanks Matt for AK3, for saving blink 182 and for your music legacy.
Great musician, better person.
I love Matt's apartments looks like one of us apartment. No need to floss.
I fucking love this dude. He's just a genuine interesting polite human being.
Alkaline Trio is one of those bands that never Does any drastic changes and That’s Why they still are one of the greatest bands ever! Every album is different but still has the Trio vibe. Made me so happy to hear that Derek recorded drums on the new album. Matt has alway been an insperation when it comes to making music. Met him in Norway in 2014. Hopefully they’ll come back. Good Mourning is one of their best albums for sure.
Matt is an absolute treasure! Can't wait for the new record.
Good Mourning is my absolutely favorite trio record BECAUSE of his voice!
Same! Haha
Seriously, I know Matt was struggling but the raspy vocals on that album are iconic. I love it so much lol
Same. I became a fan just before the Good Mourning album run. Saw them for the first time at Warped Tour ‘03. Cemented my fandom.
Matt's so sweet and humble, he's just great. Excellent talk!!!
I absolutely adore Matt Skiba! Such a great interview with him, thank you for doing this. I loved his contributions to Blink so much and I’ve been a fan of his work with Trio for 20 years now (I’m 34)
He’s such a great artist and person, and I can’t wait for the new album! ❤💀
20+ years as well. AFI changed but they still musically write great music. Trio is amazing, im thankful to say im from mchenry, not currently live , but thats the cool thing.... i saw before in 2004 so many pins and trio art walking the halls in school. Learned a lot from t shirts, but blink was mainstream, while trio has it. they havent changed their sound, because over the course of the years to now. we came to this amazing material we have now. and ty
Facts! Matt made blink-182 a better band and helped them create two of their best albums.
@@DexterMorganRIP that’s so cool! You’re from the same town! Ever see them at any of the old venues like Fireside or the Metro?
My old band played with Alkaline Trio on the Maybe I’ll Catch Fire tour. Skiba came up to compliment us after our set and I’ve always regretted not talking to him more. Legit nice guy.
You hit all the bases great interview. Love how open Matt is. I remember their online studio clips from recording Good Mourning and the update about Matt's shredded voice. So glad he overcame that.
thank you!
I kinda loved matts voice on good mourning
I met Matt in Rochester NY back in 05 or 06. Worked at a local college radio station and was able to get a short interview with Alkaline Trio. Matt is a very awesome person.
yeah I got to share some drinks with him at a bar about a decade ago here in LA and he was super nice
Matt Skiba is beyond talented and underrated singer, songwriter, and guitar player. The vocal harmonies, drums, and bass guitar with Dan are all amazing too. Alkaline Trio are one of the greatest punk rock bands of all time! 🎸🎤🥁 🤘🔥
This is the best Matt Skiba interview I think I’ve ever seen. Been a Trio fan since the late nineties and saw them at the Fireside in 98 & 99 🖤💀
I have always loved alkaline trio Matt is a super rad guy awesome musician great job guys with blood, hair and eyeballs 🤘👍
This was a phenomenal interview. Alkaline Trio has been my favorite band for 25 years now and I always love Skiba interviews, as he is always respectful and forthcoming with interviewers. Stryker asked great questions and struck a fine balance between Alk3's past, present, and future. It's also wonderful to hear how close Skiba is with his mom.
thank you so much!
Matt skiba was a legend before Blink and he will be legend forever….Every emo/PopPunk kid had a healthy serving of Matt and the boys in alkaline trio from the early 2000’s… so when he joined blink it was like a super group…some of blinks most touching songs in the last few year have been Matt’s work
..he unlocked something in mark and Travis.. blinks music didn’t sound like blink and it didn’t sound like alkaline trio it was something new and beautiful yet dark and haunting.. poppy and punky and serious at the same time…I prayed so hard that he was gonna be able to share the stage with Tom that would’ve made my life.. Tom and Matt on the stage wouldve been amazing ….but I understand why he didn’t this new album with alkaline Trio is so good the man is on the move… he also is a fantastic person to his fans…. So thank you Matt from one out cast skater pop punk kid who had no one accept a small group of friends..your records in the early 2000s saved me from thank you.. I owe you a hug n warm embrace for making music that gave me purpose and made me part of a tribe.. and thank you for your work with blink it showed me you can still create art even if your out of genre some what.. thank you ❤
Good mourning is by far my favourite Trio album, crazy Matt couldn't listen to it so long!
Awesome interview guys. I’m an old head Blink and Alkaline Trio fan since the 90’s. To have Tom back in Blink followed by Alkaline Trio dropping back to back bangers is the healing we needed after some tough years. Can’t wait to hear the full album.
When they say Matt don’t miss,,,, Goddammit he don’t miss…From early Alkaline Trio to the boys new stuff to his time with Blink…this man proved why he needs to be in the RockNroll Hall of Fame Twice.. one for his time with Blink and one time for his career with Alkaline Trio…he legitimately shaped the sound of early 2000s pop punk and Emo……This man is national treasure
@@lilspliffster88 Fuckin A
Same! Imagine if they toured together 🥵
Old head
Never realised what a sweet heart Matt is, sounds like he had a proper upbringing, respect to his parents 🤘
go mchenry suburban kid life....
my hometown area
You can always count on ten minutes about the military P's, and a minute or 2 about being a bike messenger. It's like, "dude, we know." 🤣
"First thought, best thought." 💯
Good mourning is one of my favorite albums. He sells himself short. His voice is so different than anyone else’s. My all time fave!!
Man what an awesome guy. Alkaline Trio have been consistently awesome for so long now
Crimson is my favorite Alkaline Trio album. I’m thankful to Skiba for his time in blink. Contributions on Nine like songs on “No Heart to Speak Of” & “Hungover You” are amazing
Weird to hear someone praise that generic and lukewarm album. I like alkaline trio fine but I also don’t think Mark would have had Tom back if things were totally kicking ass without him. Blink wasn’t remotely the same without Tom. One More Time is all the proof you need.
@@justinTime077 cool story bro
@@justinTime077 Generic? Crimson is a masterpiece, easily some of the best of the trios songs like Time to waste, Burn, Sadie and Back to hell. Don't see why it's weird since it is one of the most praised albums by the trio.
@@KarlstadDrums I think they mean Nine is generic in this case, Crimson is definitely not (and one of their best for sure).
@@KBottaro96 Oh yeah that makes sense now that you say it. I thought it was such a weird thing to call Crimson generic and lukewarm haha. It is indeed a masterpiece
Happy for Matt i loved blink with him but Alkaline Trio has been my favt band since i was 16 and im 35
I met him one night when they opened for face to face in 98, just chillin’ on the corner of 10th and Arch outside the trocadero in Philly. Very fucking cool guy.
Great interview! I had no idea this show existed, but am so happy to see that it does. I grew up listening to KROQ and punk in the 90s, including early Alkaline Trio. A bunch of other musicians I grew up listening to have been interviewed here too, so I have some catching up to do!
thank you so much for finding the show!! Hope you enjoy it
Really great interview, appreciate Matt sharing these insights, so fascinating to an avid trio fan, cannot wait to see them in London 🇬🇧 this summer!
Strange because Good Mourning is my favourite album of theirs. I love the shredded vocals. And so many good songs.
Matt you are a light to so many. I would not be who I am today if I didn’t grow up with Alkaline Trio. Can’t wait to see you in Chicago in March!
Matt is such a rad dude. Loved him in blink and have always loved alkaline.
Matt Skiba is just a great guy. I am a big blink fan since nearly 20 years. And I am happy that Tom is back. But how awesome was his participation, when he was part of blink. I loved both albums and especially NINE is an absolute masterpiece that was kind of my soundtrack of 2019. Thank you Matt!
Same here! Nine was in my car for over a year. It’s yet to be taken out of rotation. Such an amazing album with some beautiful songs!
Matt Skiba, my man, i got to see you live a few years back. You sir were amazing with blink as well. Ill never forget it. I love Tom as well but i think you smashed it out of the park my man
Matt and Dan are the best. I miss Derek, but I'm excited for Atom. Can't wait for the new album. And the tour...🎉🎉
Man oh man would I have loved to be able to just sit in that room with Grohl and the Trio...my 2 all time favorites!
Matt’s been in two wonderful bands and is still going strong. Absolute respect to him.
We asked and you delivered! What a fantastic interview. Thanks Matt and Stryker, so fucking excited for the whole album to drop 🤗
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Excited for this new album the songs released have been on repeat, even the 6 year old knows all the lyrics.
My 8 year old is exactly the same 😂
Gonna listen to This Addiction now. Thanks Matt! Underrated album, btw. Especially those bonus tracks
What a great interview. Just when you think Matt gets lost answering the question, he brings it back. Love those kinds of detailed answers. Thanks for posting.
What a stellar human being! I discovered his band in 99 cause I was a fan of Asian man records, was kind of a ska punk kid. And every ad Mike park bought had them at the top of the list that year, also thought goddamnit was a great name. So I picked it up, listened to it and my life changed! I'm not a fan of every release theyve done since from here to infirmary, but I respect their decisions as a powerhouse punk band! They've become a pillar of the scene, synonymous with acts like NOFX, 7 seconds, bad religion, descendents, etc. Congrats Matt! You deserve it!!!!
Love Skiba!! Great interview! Looking forward to the new Trio record & tour!
Great interview! Great folks!
My thing with Blood hair and eyeballs is that i fell in love instantly with that song, and got so happy that these dudes are back
Such a cool guy. He and the band always releases consistent banger after banger. Pound for pound.
I would listen to a Matt Skiba podcast. It's just so fascinating to listen to his stories.
He is such a great storyteller. and his voice is so calming. I love Matt Skiba and I love the new album I cannot wait to see them in MARCH!
Sprry for your loss Matt. He got emotional talking about it 🥺
You should be happy and proud for this album Matt is awesome. Thank Trio is back
Gotta say, for being late 40’s Matt sure does look great
Great episode!! Skiba is the best!! Longtime fan of the trio since I first heard “From Here to Infirmary” in 2001!
great to hear Matt is still Matt.
Such a great interview! Matt is a great guy. So glad he's doing well
I was lucky enough to catch the Alk3/Bad Religion tour and it was so killer
Great interview!
absolutely love this
I can't wait to see the new album live. Skiba is always so genuine and kind.
This is awesome. Thank you for this!!
Can't wait to see the Trio.... PHX AZ in Feb. Favorite band of ALL TIME!!!
Nice, always great when there’s content were we get to hear Matt.
Love Matt and Alkaline Trio, Hell yes!!!
As someone from Rochester who enjoys Bug Jar i am screaming. Love this guy man!
always nice to hear from matt. can''t wait for the new album! :)
Been waiting for this one! Always a great episode, Stryker! Happy New Year 🖤
great interview - Matt is the sweetest
Absolutely loved this interview dude! Would love to get one with you in the future thats for sure!
Matt is a huge influence of mine personally and it's been really eye opening to hear him talk openly about life and music, so thank you! 🙏🏻👊🏻🙌🏻🤘🏻🍻❤️🔥
I had no idea Stryker was such a good interviewer. I grew up on KROQ, until I was about 12 or 13, and then started drifting away from the radio (I work in radio now). So I don't remember too clearly his mic skills from his heyday in the 90's, though we loved him in my house. What I do remember was KROQ getting worse and worse as the 2000's wore on, and jocks getting to talk less and less. This is really cool to see a radio vet like him, in his element, doing exactly what he wants.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Thanks for this. Great conversation. Great record.
This was an amazing interview. Matt is such a nice and interesting guy. Well done!
This beautiful creature! Interviews like this are one of the reasons they'll always be my favorite.
Amazing episode. Love Matt 🖤
Great interview, can't wait for the album release on my birthday!!
Im 35 years old and have never been to any concert....EVER! I'm finally set for my first ever concert in March....and of course I'm going to see Trio for my first concert 😝 I'm so excited.
still remember Matt talking about a punk house he lived in in a magazine and how the picture stuck with me, probably after here to infirmary dropped, what a catalogue, always have to go back to these guys
Hell yeah brother! can't wait to get through this episode today 🔥💪
Great interview! First 3 tracks off new album sound amazing!!
Matt seems like such a genuine person and the album is great. Great! I can’t wait to see them in SF in March!
What an amazing interview. AT3 has been my favorite band for quite some time but I had no idea about his parents and all that. As a veteran myself and the son of a Vietnam veteran, I feel like the music speaks to me now more than ever.
Love Matt ❤ Great interview
First time watching your channel, such an easy decision to subscribe. I'm used to watching awful interviewers who only ask clickbait questions or to get soundbites, your questions come from the heart and you can really see the respect you have for Matt here. Can't wait to watch more.
best compliment ever. thank you so much!
Thanks for the great interview man.
Thanks for listening and watching!
i miss the days when bands would meet with fans after the shows...I saw ALK3 the first time in 1998 at the Cat's Cradle in Carboro, NC; they opened for Face to Face who I was there to see. First song ALK3 played, I was hooked. favorite effing band. Just got my tickets for HoB Orlando on 2 March
Matt God Bless and you and both your parents! (yes Both!) Total respect Dude!!
Thanks for this, guys! Always looking for more Matt content
thank YOU!!! appreciate you watching!
Really great interview ❤
Nice interview, great questions. Matt has to be one of the sweetest human beings ever
Love Matt skiba. Talented, genuine guy. ❤

Awe man Matt Skiba! Great person for an interview! I really got into them around the good mourning album.

Good Mourning is such a good album, in my top 3 if not favourite Allkaline album. Great interview 👍🏻
