put this same kit on 4 months ago and deleted my original comment. here’s what’s gone right and wrong so far. for one, this video is absolute gold for anyone whether you’re doing a spacer lift or longer springs/coilovers. I installed 2.5” spacers front and rear with 275/70/18 wheels and 1.25” spacers. It is excellent on the road and decently capable off road. that being said, be prepared to change your cv boots/tie rod boots *potentially. since the lift all of my boots are leaking, no big deal I expected it and had already ordered long travel axles. overall i would absolutely do this lift again, it looks great, rides good, and if you follow along with the video it can be done in your driveway. it took a couple weeks for the suspension to fully settle but i haven’t had any issues since then with UCAs or anything really. oh and yes getting a rust free Arizona vehicle was a huge headache saver, everything came off easily. hardest part of the whole job was actually lining up the pan hard bar afterwards but it only took about 10 mins
Right on man thanks for sharing your experience 🤙
I just did this to my 2001 Toyota Sequoia I ordered them from eBay 3 inch spacers . Follow every single direction this man gave me. Help me out a lot. and I also have my pregnant wife helping me 8 months pregnant lol Thank you very much 💯
Gangster good to hear man thank you
Noticed the 4wd at the end of the video. $5k in Cali with that mileage is a steal. I can’t thank you enough for your videos man. You keep it to straight to the point. My wife is 4 month pregnant and WONT let me take off the side step from her sequoia. 😅
Yeah these trucks are getting more and more expensive. Thanks for the comment brother!
Love the first Gen Sequoia’s 🖤🤘
Me too man...me too
Anyone considering a spacer lift, take into account the binding points of the cv axle, ball joint and tie rods when the suspension is fully unloaded. Also the front bumpstops should be spaced down so that the shock doesn't bottom out, your front bumpstops should stop the control arm
Good advice
So with what you said what is a safe height 2.5 shouldn't cause any binding right?
You can check how thick a spacer fits by putting frame on jackstands, removing 3 strut nuts, pushing down on susp and seeing how much gap you can get between strut top and bucket @prestonsserious
very good info, thankyou Sir, I've been sitting on a set of the back spacers for months to install. no im gonna measure before i dissamble Thankyou SO much! mad respect for trusting the holy spring comp tool haha.
It's crazy how much those spring compressors bend when under pressure, then bounce back after you loosen them
Congrats 👏 on your new Comer too the family 👪 and yes ther good women out there. Like 👍 your truck
They're few and far between but they are out there, thanks man
Did this lift on my 05 tundra, great video! Couldn't figure out how to make the lower control arm to move lower until I watched! Great information! Thanks man!!
Glad it helped!
Hey . Thanks for the your experience. You made. It happen for my 03 Seq ... and congratulations.
Happy to help brother 👍
Just did this on my 05 tundra, this video helped so much
Glad to hear it !
I want to do this to my 06 4WD so badly. Paid $5k for her in 2020 and she's going strong!
@@katrinarose72 Wow you got a great deal! Maybe spend a little more and get a real lift kit. Eibach has one now for under a grand
Looks great and very professional. Stellar.
Hey thanks buddy, you're pretty stellar yourself
I got the same limited 03 brother 360k just did timing belt water pump got ours back in 2014 $5300 the guy who sold it to me was a blessing to me and my family Thank you Mr Jefford I still got her running
360k that's amazing...that means I should get at least 120k more miles out of mine if I treat her right 💪
@@treehouseoffroad ya brother I never cheap out on my oil Synthetic Mobile 1 every 10000 and use good oil filters is a must k&n or mobile 1
Congrats on the growing family!
Thank you so much 😀
Did you keep the stock upper control arms? I thought you need a new upper control arms to accommodate the additional 3 inches. Congrats on the growing family, and great video by the way.
In my experience aftermarket UCA's are desirable but not necessary. Not for this particular application. It's 100% a street driven rig
Recently became interested in these as a camping rig and can’t wait to find one. Seems like the prices vary pretty wildly in my area. Thanks for these awesome videos I have a ton of ideas!
For sure man you're welcome! Check the frame very well for rust and if the timing belt is overdue make sure you do it 👍🏻
Just bought an 03 Limited 4x4 117,000k miles, one owner rust free with 45 service records. $10,500.00. Interior is absolute mint condition, road trip car for a couple with no kids.
Score!
I'm curious what part of the country you're in?
@@treehouseoffroad I'm in Charleston SC, the Sequoia came from Virginia Beach VA.
wait a minute! is that treehouse member number 4 or 5??? gonna need that third row now buddy!!!! :) congrats brother!!!
Haha number 5 brother!!! Definitely gonna need to pull that 3rd row seat out of storage 😆
@@treehouseoffroad Im looking forward to seeing the set up with more kiddos! We usually have my niece and nephew and dog. so it is a crowded rig in the summer.
Good job putting this video together
Thanks man appreciate it
Damn that Sequoia looks badass with that lift! I want to lift my wife’s 07 Limited and remove the sidesteps but she said no!😁
Yeah it doesn't take much to make these trucks look really good. I love the curves and soft body lines on them
I have also done the same with my FJ Cruiser and guess what it was worth it and it looks great more than the stock.
Sweet man glad to hear it!
The comment at the end about the pregnancy with the lift. Lol my wife’s 8 months right now and we just bought a first gen and I’m doing the same lift and 33’s on hers as a beach family truck.
Hahaha you got yourself a keeper too 😆
Do you think if I was looking for just a 1 inch lift in the back either with a spacer or larger springs to match my leveling kit in the front a little bit better that I would still need a spring compressor? Great footage, great video.
Maybe not, there's probably 1 inch of headroom in that spring compartment. I'd have one on hand just in case
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Always solid videos, and love the bottle jack use on the UCA! Can’t believe I hadn’t thought of that over the floor jack 😂🤣🤦🏻♂️
Thanks so much man, yeah that little bottle jack has been a game changer!
Congrats! Nice walkthrough
Thank you my friend
very good job one more option to light the car and looks sheep and effective thanks for sharing
You're welcome brother thanks for watching!
Thank you Sir 🫡 great video/tutorial.
Glad you liked it thanks for commenting!
Great video! Did you do 3” front and 3” in back? Or 3”” front 2-1/2” back. I’ve seen both used, want as level a stance as possible. Thanks for the content and any help.
3 and 3
NICE! Any issues with Front CV angles, UCA or LCAs? Rear arms or pan hard lengths etc after lift?
Only issue was the hole on the top hat started contacting the front strut shaft and became wallowed out. The shaft was also eaten away a bit. It probably would've been fine for a while longer but when I disassembled them it showed signs of wear. To be fair I had the struts on my truck for over a year and beat on them pretty hard
Like from Siberia Russia 👍
Thanks Siberia!
Do you have toyota suvs like these there?
Do you think I’ll need jack stands for the rear. I was able to do the front. But don’t know if I need to drop the whole rear end or just one side. Do you think I’ll be fine with one jack and a bottle jack?
In my opinion Jack stands are a necessity yes. Stay safe under your truck my brother
Really like the content I'm loocking to buy a 1st gen sequoia and you kinda make me dream about what I can do to it for my overlanding rig 😁
Thanks so much man, get one you won't regret it!
Im trying to fit 285 45 22 without doing anything crazy my sequoia is 02 2 wheel drive but getting hub centric for Toyota to Chevy 6 lug
Nice I love the way Sequoias look with street wheels
I have a 99 Durango 4WD 5.9 3.92 Diffs. I'd love to go 33s x 12.5 to use mostly on the beach for surfcasting! I get HORRIBLE mileage. Supposed to use 93 octane as well! What does your 1st Gen get with the 33s? These are looking like a better choice when sleeping at the beach with more room! And look exceptionally better too! Thanks!
Its my wife's truck and the MPG screen is messed up. So I can't say for sure what type of mileage she gets but I'd guess around 13-14. What are you getting?
@@treehouseoffroad I get only 11 to 12 MPG.... OUCH! Just did the transmission because the Torque Converter wasn't locking up reliably... I hope that helps! It wouldn't pass inspection here in NY because of that! NY Sucks!
Subscribed. Will this fit an 04 with the towing package/3rd row seats ?
Thanks ours is an 03 same specs so I don't see why it wouldn't
@@treehouseoffroad limited ?
Can you run 35in tires with this setup? I know there will be some trimming
Maybe with some adjustable upper control arms like SPC's. Yes there will be some minor trimming and pinch weld modifying required up front. As it stands now this truck still runs a bit at fill lock in reverse.
Do I have to worry about torqueing all the bolts when I reassemble?
Yes you sure do
Man great video I just did this to my 06 tundra. Thank you
Nice what did you do for the leaf springs to make them match?
Looks pretty darn good 👍.
What's the MPG now ⛽?
Highway?
Thanks man, her little computer is stuck on DTE so we really have no idea. She says it's not that much worse than it was though. I had the same lift and the same exact wheels and tires on mine for about a year and it wasn't too bad
Hi treehouse! I was watching your 3” spacer lift for the sequoia. I had a question is on the rear spacer I’m have trouble finding the correct dia. as I have the limited with the larger diameter coil. We’re did you find yours? I’ve looked in Craigslist… no luck.
Thank you
I can't find them either anymore, for whatever reason they just aren't available at this time
After my 3 inch install, my steering rack and pinion MOUNT under passenger side snaps right off. Frame on these 1st gene aren't that durable either. Welded back on but without re-doing that whole crossmember, steering will never be the same.....now debating on a straight front axel conversion.🤔
That's crazy must have been super rotted
I have a 2005 2wd Sequoia with rear air bags that leak. I'm going to do a 2.5 suspension lift but convert to just springs and shocks in all four corners. If I'm pulling out all the suspension, do you think I should add the spacers on top of a 2.5 lift? It doesn't look much harder to add the spacers to my 2wd which will never see off road. Also, what size tires are you running at the end of the video
Spacers or lift kit, definitely not both. The tire info is in the description
@treehouseoffroad I was thinking a 2.5" suspension lift and add 1" spacer lift. Will that combo be OK just for a city rig. It will never see off road as it's a 2wd
Thanks for video install went good but my vsc light and trac light came out any ideas how to fix or what I did wrong TIA
Came out? Do you mean the dash lights came on?
@@treehouseoffroad came on I put scanner and it says it’s c1231 steering angle sensor
@@javygarcia7917 Personally I've just unplugged and deactivated those systems, as I've found them to be dangerous on the street. Under the hood there's a plug going into the brake master cylinder. Do this at your own risk, but definitely do some research on the FB groups It's a very well-known issue
I have an 03 4wd with 3rd row and tow hitch. It has 240K miles. One of the rear shocks died so I'm replacing it with an OEM clone and figured I might as well add a 2, maybe 2.5 inch body lift kit, while I'm getting my hands dirty. I'd like to throw some 33's on the factory rims. I'm seeing a ton of conflicting info, as to what all needs to be done/replaced. Will factory shocks work? Do I need to replace the rear coil springs as well? Any help would be appreciated.
Factory shocks and factory springs will work with a body lift because you are keeping the suspension the same yes. You may have to remove the front mudflaps and hammer the front wheel wells a bit to avoid rubbing with 33's. The rears will not run in this scenario
Not sure if you’re still replying to the comments but if I do the coil spacer lift in the rear don’t I need to get shocks to accommodate as well?
Are new rear shocks are requirement? No. That's part of the attraction of a spacer lift, you can reuse your front and rear shocks.
Would it handle and articulate better with a longer rear shock absorber? Absolutely. You're essentially eating up 3 inches of your downtravel when you install the spacer.
We did not replace the rear shocks as they were fairly new when we got the truck, and we had no plans of taking it off road.
What brand are your front shocks?
There were no-name brand that the previous owner had installed
@@treehouseoffroad Great Job, I got Lost when u re installed the front shocks, did not see how where u able to align the 3 bolt to the UCA. Will those spin or u had a marker to make them aligned?
Great video
Thanks for checking it out!
did you need alignment after? and did you have issued with alignment?
Absolutely need an alignment after. We've had no issues getting it/keeping it aligned
Do you lift the front and back 3”. Or should the back be 2.5 and the front be 3 for example. Not sure what to do some lifts are sold with the front taller. But I want it to be level
I would measure the distance between the front and rear fenders and the tires to see what your truck needs to make it level. Some trucks sag more than others. You can also buy the front and rear spacers separately.
Do I need to upgrade the suspension with this exact lift kit? If not, will this lift make the factory suspension wear out faster? Thanks!
I don't understand your question
@@treehouseoffroad Does this 3 inch spacer lift put stress on stock suspension? Will I have to change out any suspension parts when installing this 3 inch spacer lift on my sequoia?
Yes it literally puts stress on the springs and shocks lol. I would do the lower ball joints, maybe get some extended sway bar links. It may prematurely kill your front struts....but it's CHEAP!
@@treehouseoffroadthanks! Never done a lift before so I don’t know shit!😁
iM GETTING MINE THIS WEDNESDAY IF ALL GOES WELL.
Question for you sir, did you buy UCAs for this lift? Or have issues doing an alignment?
I used the stock UCAs but installed polyurethane bushings in them. It aligned well and has stayed in alignment
@@treehouseoffroad thank you for the response
@@-LFATV No prob
Hey I was wondering if you recommend doing the dif drop with the lift ?
I did yes. Not sure it really helps but it can't hurt. It was included so I installed it
good job friend 👍 I have one too, how can I buy the game to build it
Hello sir, in the video you had to wait for the correct rear spacers, i have the exact year and model you have. Would you happen to have the link to the specific spacers that worked on yours?
Hello Sir, the rear spacers I used are no longer available for some reason
@@treehouseoffroad dang it that sucks thank you for the reply either way
@Treehouse Overland do you need upper control arms to do this mod or does it keep the geometry pretty straight?
You would definitely benefit from a set of aftermarket UCA's but they're not absolutely necessary. The geometry is pretty much maxed out but an alignment is still achievable
Awesome thanks for the advice 🤙🏻
Does the kit you put in the description fit rear wheel drive or just 4x4? Cause it says 4x4
I think the rear springs are the same for both 2wd/4wd. The difference is if you have the tow package & 3rd row seat, the rear springs are bigger. Front struts are the same across all models.
where did you get the rear spacers at because i have looked every where for that kind
eBay
@@treehouseoffroad do you know what brand they were or a link to them
They're no longer available I used to have a link up. I still have the ones from this video, we've since sold that Sequoia. I'll sell them to you if you want, email me. treehousephin@gmail.com
Just did a spacer lift on my sequoia and I’m noticing a floating feeling in the steering. Maybe over and under steering. Any suggestions on what that might be. Alignment was just done
How are your steering rack bushings?
I haven’t thought about that will give it a good looking at
Thanks
Was this 3 inches front and back or 3 inches front, 2-2.5 in the back.
3 inches both
I'm havin gthe worst luck finding new rear coils for my 03' Sequoia that don't cost an arm and a leg. Do you have any suggestions?
Where are you looking? Try www.1stgenoffroad.com
Rear springs range from $215 - $275 a pair which is reasonable in my opinion.
Hey, so I have an 06 Seqouia SR5 and want to lift it. Not sure which route to go, my goal is to put larger tires. Should I go with the spacers or suspension lift ?
If you have the money, an actual lift with new springs/shocks will always perform better
Hi, what size of wheels and tires fits after the lift? Does 285/75/17 would not rub?
We clear 33x12.5 tires. They still rub a tiny bit in reverse but not enough to bother us. A 285/75R17 is a slightly taller tire at 33.83 inches so you may have a bit more rubbing. Nothing removing the mud flaps and taking a sledgehammer to the pinch weld can't fix though
How have the cv boots been holding up?
No issues surprisingly! I have replacement boots on deck just in case
So sick 👏👏🔥🔥
💪💪💪
Would this still work if I have the air suspension in the back?
That's a great question... I'm not sure. There are a total of 8 Toyota part numbers for rear springs on these trucks, 4 for the driver side and 4 for the passenger. So it gets sort of confusing. Are you a member of the TSOR group on FB? There's probably a good amount of info there on lifting the air susp models.
Where did you get the rear spacers? I have a 07 Sequoia with the 3rd row and tow package.
I got them on eBay but they're not on there anymore
Did you ever find some ? I have an 04 same package
I have the 3/4 straight joe lift kit but hate how the front sits 😑 😒 I want to completely level it out but can't find 1-1.5in spacer
Which end sits higher, front or rear?
I’m at 5:38 point of the video and got my lower control arm bolts out front and rear however the arm is still under tension and won’t drop down… what else need to be loosen?
The bolts are completely removed?
@@treehouseoffroad yes on a from and on the rear but is removed but bolt is there but loose. (Rubber bushing is in the way)
@@Petrovich1988 Is your truck rusty? It could be seized. Because if the bolts are removed you should be able to push it down
@@treehouseoffroad some rust but not too bad. I did noticed that those inserts that bolts go through is not loose. I tried hammer it on the nut side but no luck. The arm does go down but under severe pressure (unlike the video, where it moves freely) anyways I used a long bar to force the arm down while I catch that hole with the nut on the bottom of the shock. With great effort I was able to do it. Now I got to move to the other side… for some reason I can’t release the arm to be able to work with it so I’m trying to see if I am doing something wrong🤔
@@Petrovich1988 hard for me to visualize what you're saying but it sounds like you got it. I'm not sure why they'd be so tight if they were not seized or rusted
Does the kit u listed support a rwd sequoia ?
I'm not 100% sure so just read the product description carefully
Was a Wheel alignment needed after the lift?
Always yes
3 inch rear spacer to?
What model size tire are you running?
Good question I added the tire specs to the video description in case others are wondering
Nice
Thanks!
What gas mileage can you expect with that setup ?
The tires are only slightly bigger than stock so it's not horrendous. I asked my wife and she's not sure of the mpg exactly
Do you have links for the lift kit?
See description thanks
Another question I have is with the kit you listed it has a recommended differential drop kit. I noticed you didn't show that part of the install did you put one in and if so how does it go in? Again please and thank you 😊
I did install it, there are tons of videos on YT detailing the process already so I didn't film it
What’s the size of the rear spacer?
It provides 3" of lift but it's not exactly 3" tall. I'm not sure the actual height of the spacer
I noticed you had to change the rear spacers to ones that fit could you send a link for the ones you got that fit please and thank you.
In video description
Do you need new sway bar links? Bumpers?
No and no. It's my wife's daily driver, the sway bar links are a little tight but she's not taking this thing off road
Those are not good spots to put the jack stands brother. Cotdamn. I was sweating watching this video.
Those spots have always worked great but now I have 6-ton stands and a lift so I no longer use them. I shake the car violently to make sure it's stable but yeah I understand your concern
I like the ideas but man torque spec some shit big dog

If you're young and broke, the LAST thing you should be spending your money on is a vehicle/mods. Can't say I haven't made the same mistakes in my youth, but now at 56, after 30 yrs in business, I look back at all the money I wasted trying to "look good", "go fast", "be the man". Luckily, my business allowed me the cushion to absorb all that waste, but I just think how much I could have saved and invested. Sure, enjoy your youth, you can live it to the fullest WITHOUT spending $$$, delay that short term gratification. If you're not increasing your income EXPONENTIALLY as the years go by, life is just going to be that much harder and you'll look at all the "stuff" you bought as worthless trash. Just trying to help brother.
You make some great points, but personally I had to learn those lessons for myself. I think most young men will have to come to this conclusion on their own
a $5k toyota with a 3” lift isn’t gonna kill your finances nearly as bad as just about anything else on the road
