I feel so bad for Sandra. That was a scary, confusing, and traumatizing childhood. What a sick and twisted man her stepfather was. I wish I could go back and protect her.

How right you are! So tragic that her mother allowed this to happen & makes me ill to think a mother would allow this but I realize it happens, even today! Sandra Dee had everything but yet, had nothing, because inside this poor young girl was destroyed by her stepfather molesting her! May God Rest Her Soul! May she find the peace finally in death that she could never find in life! Five yrs old to be molested, is absolutely inconceivable!!!! Her mother , allowing her poor sweet baby girl to be molested, sleeping between them in the bed, fills me w/ revulsion & horror.... furious anger too that how could any mother allow this, turning a blind eye to this. I feel she is equally to blame, as her illustrious, perverted, stepfather! Poor Sandra Dee had no one to protect her or watch out for her. Such a courageous, extraordinary woman!❤️
I love this lady, I watched Gidget the movie which was so adorable and even though I am a millenial (only 27) she is one of my role models, as a teen and young woman now I love to look and be like Miss Sandra Dee. She's beautiful inside and out especially when she was a blossoming young woman.
I so loved Sandra Dee! An incredible actress, mother & woman who died much to young. She looks as beautiful as ever, in this video. We miss her so terribly much! May She Rest In Peace! I sooooo loved Sandra Dee!❤️

I loved her in "Imitation of Life" (formerly called "I Passed For White"). A drama about white and black families in the 1960's and about a young black girl that could pass as a white girl & didn't want her black mother to hold her back. During the 60's this was a huge film. Even today when I watch this film, I cry. If you ever get the chance, watch it!
Jim Stark But the original didn't have the the Late, Great, Gospel Singer/Legend: Mahalia Jackson, singing in the remake starring Lana Turner, Sandra See and Juanita Moore.

"Summer Place" is one of my favorite movies. I thought Sandra and Troy would have made a great couple but she married Bobby Darin. As the years went by and I got older I decided that Richard Eagan got better looking!!💞
Sandra had such a tragic life, and she deserved much better. In a time where abuse, depression, eating disorders and alcoholism were not discussed, she must have felt that she had nowhere to turn. I'm sure this kind of thing has happened and continues to happen more than we know. People looked the other way, and apart from Sandra's stepfather, her mother Mary was the most guilty in the situation. Their relationship was extremely complicated. Mary made Sandra dependant on her for everything. Sandra had no clue what it was to have a normal life, and she never really experienced the teenage rites, like dating, which makes it all the more sad that she never found love again after Bobby Darin.
+LoveFlatfootin1 No doubt he has sex with himself. Takes himself to dinner, plays footsies with himself under the table, goes to a movie, holds his own hand, goes home, invites himself in for a drink. . . then the lights go down. . .
Sandra Dee was one of the biggest stars of the late 50s early 60s she was typecast by her studio Universal and never really became a major adult star ..But like many in Hollywood her life wasn't the movies ..So Sad ...
Sandra Dee was the standout young actress of her era along with Natalie Wood. There were Diane Varsi (who stopped acting in 1959 until the late 60s), Hope Lange, Carol Lynley, Susan Kohner and Tuesday Weld, too, but my favorite was Sandra. She was THE Teen Queen back then. It's so sad to hear that terrible things happened to her. RIP Sandra Dee.

It’s so strange to think that she and Patty Duke, famous for their perky youthfulness, had terrible damaged lives in secret. Anyone who complains about how everything today is so messed up while everything in the past was wholesome and clean needs to have these women’s stories thrown at them.
I truly believe I am alive, healed and blessed today at age 70 years of age because of God. "With God all things are possible. " ❤🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Praying for everyone who is struggling with issues like these.
I was born in 1954 and grew up watching all her movies - she seemed to be the most adorable, charming All American Girl. I think she actually had potential as a serious dramatic actress but was completely typecast by the Hollywood studio system who pigeonholed her into the Tammy pictures and Gidget. I wish her true talents were used by the film industry and if she had been given serious dramatic roles she would have truly flourished in her career. Now that she has revealed the source of her alcoholism, depression and mental health issues - I have complete compassion for her. As a child and teen I thought Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee were the "Charmed Couple" they clearly loved each other so much and it was a real tragedy about their divorce and his death at such an early age. THeir son is the spitting image of Bobby Darin and looks so much like his dad! I remember when she went on the Mike Douglas show in the late 1960s and she spoke about being sexually abused as a child and how she was basically the Cash Cow financially supporting her parents as a child star.
With the recent scrutiny of talk show hosts taking advantage of vulnerable guests, such as Diane Sawyer's interview with Britney Spears, Sally Jesse Raphael conducted this with sensitivity, asking permission along the way. It sets the tone for the audience too, to listen with compassion with the hope that the story may help others.
Thanks for sharing this video. I have been a fan of hers since day one. Saw all her movies, joined her Fan club. She sent me a picture of her after writing her. Use to wear my hair like her. Tried to dress like her in High school. Had her records of the songs that were deleted in summer place. She also had a song in the Snow Queen movie that was a 45"
She was an amazing actress. Beautiful and down-to-earth, who I truly believed lived with a broken heart. I loved her and all of her movies. I most definitely understand and can relate to her life. ❤
I saw her in 'A Summer Place' with Troy Donohue and Ronald Reagan. I forgot who the other stars were, but she was adorable in that movie. Very, very cute. A lot of black eye shadow though, but somehow it looked good on her. Platinum blonde hair and all. Poor woman. She didn't have the best life.
James Darren was a good friend to her and convinced her to stop being a hermit and go public - James Darren convinced her to go on the Mike Douglas show in the late 1960s and it was a wonderful program with the two of them. RIP Gidget and Moondoggie!

I bought one of the magazines with a large picture of just her face . I was living in a very toxic family environment and I was not a happy child to say the least. I stared at Sandra Dee’s large picture of just her face and all I saw was her beautiful but so so sad eyes. It so resonated with me bc I had that same sadness within me . It is so ironic bc I was a molestation victim also in my home and didn’t even know how to tell anyone or who would even listen to me. My heart went out to her when I heard her story. Her demons from her whole past childhood is what Drove her addiction! Soooo Sad that she is the one who payed the damn price for her own mother and step-fathers crimes against her!!😓💔 Frankly I am truly astonished that Sandra went on to do so very well in her career, considering she carried around such extreme heavy emotional damage for all those years and years........
Sandra Dee was one of my favorite actresses! I truly believe people put her on a pedestal and that was just to hard on her ! No one could live up to that ! (BRENDA CONSTABLE)
i love her and i love dori day my two fav women ...i always love classic tv and movie born in the 70 i guess but i love the 60 40 50 movies they sre great
Always loved Sandra Dee for the sweet person she was, She had such promise for a wonderful life. I am so sorry all this happened to her and hope she is at peace with Bobbie Darin.
Grew up watching her movies. They played a lot of older movies on one of the stations in my native country, Costa Rica. Always loved her. Someone wrote that this is what addiction looks like but actually- this is what years of childhood trauma, parental negligence and control and an adult child (Sandra) protecting their parents by denying to themselves that said parent allowed their exploitation - looks like. Addiction is a symptom of deeper issues.
How tragic! As a young girl, I really admired her and enjoyed her films. So sad that the life behind the lovely face was so dysfunctional. Her glamour made her an idol in our young minds. We envied her and wished we were Sandra. Tough to digest when the truth came out.
She was so sweet and unassuming....I pray she is with angels. RIP Sandra

She was so beautiful, sad that she died so young!
I grew up with Gidget and Moondoggy. She was a lovely movie star. Rest in peace.
She didn't blame her mother, she ate it all, she could laugh, play, have fun.... Unbelievable!
I absolutely loved her so much….Her movies were my youth and my happiness 💜
Poor Sandra Dee! I enjoyed her movies when they were on tv. RIP
Oh my, bless her heart. R.I.P. Sandra Dee.
She's only 51 here in this interview...but she looks like she's 70. Her addiction really did damage. May she R.I.P.
Wow, I've gotta disagree with you there. I think she's still quite a looker! And I don't think she looks 70!
Her demons from her whole past childhood is what Drove her addiction! Soooo Sad that she is the one who payed the damn price for her own mother and step-fathers crimes against her!!😓💔
Frankly I am truly astonished that Sandra went on to do so very well in her career, considering she carried around such extreme heavy emotional damage for all those years and years........
I'm 60 and she looks a yummy 40 something
I think it’s her hair. Otherwise I think she looks forty something.
this interview was
1990, Sandra Dee was 48..born 1942.
I remember her in movies; she was so pretty & a good actress.

Hello Laurie
How are you doing today?
Sandra Dee was my favorite
Always loved Sandra Dee for the sweet person she was, She had such promise for a wonderful life. I am so sorry all this happened to her and hope she is at peace with Bobbie Darin.
Hello Kathy Lopez
Wow , she is really amazing . I have always loved her movies .
She said,
Bobby Darin's first words he ever spoke to her were
" I'm going to marry you"
those would have been my first words to her as well 💎💍💞🌷⚘🎂⛪😙💑
But I’m a man and would have never let her go.
She should have lived the storybook life. So sad.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HER MOVIES, SHE WAS ROM MY ERA. RIP SANDRA
Still beautiful and feel sorry she had a tough life too. Rest In Peace sweet Sandra dee🙏
