Anoana is a protecter of the land. In some cultures, a child born during an eclipse is thought to hold magical abilities, such as shapeshifting and healing. This is the story of the birth of Anoana and her coming of age, eventually finding her soul animal. One of my favorite songs of theirs. And yes, if you can see them live, do. They are incredible. I saw them last September and it was unreal.
The main character of the video (the girl) was born during the eclipse(black sun). From ancient folklore we know that people born during the eclipse were believed having the powers of turning into their spirit animals and giving life to the dead(the bird). The girl is looking for her spirit animal during the video(when she sees the moose, she lowers her head and almost initiates a stampede, but the moose does not). Eventually she does find her spirit animal, when she finds the muskox in the field when shes still young. In the end(when shes older) when she initiates a charge and the uskox does the same, she becomes her spirit animal. Thats my interpretation, anyway.
To me, the very last scene looks like a suicide😢first the looks at the sunset, understands or feels her time is over, and then… she desperately runs to that muskox and of course she’ll die when they hit each other. So the last scene really makes me feel so bad, but the whole video is so mesmerizing, so wow, and that shaman dance near the fire… if I only could have party like that at least once 😅😅
@@Mariia-wx7xm But you see her older self, earlier in the video, calling back through time during the kulning part of the song... so you know that wasn't the end! 😎 Has to be a symbolic merging with her spirit animal.
It’s a musk ox. In Alaska they are working hard to expand the herds. When they have enough healthy animals, they are transported to where they can roam free again. They are fierce.
@@mortenBP this is a short explanation of a musk ox. Musk oxen are members of the Bovidae family, which includes domestic cattle, sheep, goats, bison, antelopes, and wildebeest. Consequently, saying it is a buffalo sheep would not be correct. The closest relative to the musk ox is a takin, a large goat-like animal which is found in the Himalayas. I found these facts from Alaska (.gov) and PBS. It is the animal shown in the video.
The animal is a muskox. Anoana, as a girl, tried to challenge a moose. The muskox found her, at age 10. The final scene had her deposing a muskox, and carrying its power. A screencap of the last frames shows that the images of the charging bull are CGI. Some have opined that the actual spirit animal/ earth deity might have been an aurochs. As there no living bovines are that large, or configured properly like the aurochs, the tame muskox was used in this video.

Hey Sorry I am late. Great you reacted to "Anoana"! Fantastic! One bit of trivia is that when Maria Franz sings that high pitched singing in the song, this high pitched singing is ancient herd calling called Kunaling which was done with women long ago in ancient times and still in some areas of Norway and Sweden to call in their herds from long distances. There are two videos you should react to from Heilung.. 1. "Narupo" which is another produced video like "Anoana". 2. If you want to see Maria Franz and Chris Juul, who is the guy with the beard in the "Anoana" with the big drum without wearing makeup, you can watch them perform a studio recording video of Maria singing and Chris playing traditional Nordic folk song called "ULVETIME by Songliekr which is Maria Franz and Chris Juul's traditional Nordic Folk Music other project they do outside of Heilung. "Ulvetime" in English is "Hour of the Wolf". I think you will really like it!
The drumbeat does around 140 BPM. About the average heartbeat of a baby (between 110 and 160 BPM) The video is full of symbolism. From the eclipse, birth and even the young girl bringing the dead bird to live (you missed that one since you were looking upwards listening to the music or lyrics) was a sign of the special powers gifted to the girl. It's a mesmerising, intensive, genetically familiar and historical lesson in once.. Cool innit? Nice reaction. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌷
One thing I didn't see in these comments, the "poses" holding the antlers that Anoana and Maria do (and other Heilung members in other videos) are depictions of runes. If you look them up, they add to the story being sung. Heilung truly is a healing for many people. It's helped me through losing two children and my ex wife, all within 2 years.
Always enjoy your reactions, Jeremy! I especially appreciate when you point out details that I completely miss. It allows me to experience music that I may have already heard from a fresh perspective!
The first song I heard of them was Krigsgaldr. They have an oficial video but is with drawings, and only with that they made me cry with the scenes of war. I instantly followed them and I've been a fan since then. But I still can't watch that original video without crying
Animism is an ancient global belief system that existed before the spread of judeo religions where there was experienced a sacred connection with the land, animals, rocks, trees, water, fire and so on. That everything has a soul, a spirit and how we are all related.
The background drone replaces what would be a whole string section in an orchestral composition. Only shifts an octave or two throughout the composition. When it drops out, as with the swaddling babe/dead bird sequence, you really notice it when it returns. No need to go dowzing in a green forest...water everywhere 😁
Great reaction! I just can recommend the other songs of them aswell! I'll see Heilung live for the first time end of the month and I'm sooo excited! :D
Oh man, you are in for a treat, seeing heilung live is definitely an experience. A friend of mine and I got to see them in September, the size of the drums they had on stage that one guy was banging on during the performance we were in the 26th row and I could feel the pounding of it in my chest, I couldn't tell what was my heartbeat or not. Honestly was worried I would get a heart palpitation from all of it. Lol, but I remember walking out of the theater with my mind feeling blown away and from time to time I check to see if they are touring through my area again. Sadly, they are currently not. 😢
That's a musk ox, an animal from the Pleistocene period that walked alongside the gargantuan woolly mammoth. One survived the Ice Age to still be around today, the other did not.
You should def check out Heilung - Tenet, A song based on the old SATOR square. Only one person has reacted to that song yet, and it is awesome! It's from the same album as Anoana.

Please understand that when watching something for the very first time…and hosting a reaction channel (which means talking to all of you) at the same time as watching/listening and analyzing….it’s almost impossible to pick up everything. Just understand that. I’m trying to juggle a lot here. I can’t possibly catch everything all the time. Even if I sat there in silence and didn’t take my eyes off the screen…I wouldn’t have understood everything at once. So please be easy on us reactors. We’re trying
@@musikbyjh I definitely understand the juggling. The example I gave of missing what the girl does to the bird is a HUGE deal and a number of reactors miss that same thing. There was one woman who also missed it the first time through. Then she rewound the video to before it happened and was then watching the video when it happened and shocked when she saw it so much that she rewound again to see it again. I understand some reactors are musically aware so they spend a LOT of time focused on the music. I am always hoping they see such things as that is so significant to the whole story. I am sorry if I said the wrong words but I see it happen so many times where reactors spend a lot of time looking up or closing their eyes to hear all aspects of the music part and the voice. 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤💙💙😊😊😉😉
@@shanialover it’s no problem at all. What some folks I don’t think realize is that, when you’ve seen the video a ton of times, you know everything about it. And when there a song or video I know very well, and someone is watching it for the first time, they miss a lot of things, especially when talking or trying to be personable towards whoever is watching. I’ve been frustrated before too…that someone misses something so paramount. But DOING reactions is a whole different story. So I’m sorry that I missed anything…just be easy with us, as it’s not easy to catch everything in one sitting. Much love to you! ✌🏽😎🤘🏽
@@shanialover I just rewatched that part. Pretty cool how she brought the bird back to life. But I see why I didn’t catch it…because there was some pretty cool musical stuff happening during that part…and I wasn’t looking or talking…I was focused on what the music was doing. (Which is why I do these reactions). Yes, the videos are definitely cool…but I’m way more interested in the instrumentation and composition of the music. I was caught up during that bird part. And honestly, sometimes I can’t help it. I hear a lot of things happening, sometimes stuff that most people don’t even realize. And that grabbed my attention. 🤘🏽😎🤘🏽
@@musikbyjh I completely understand. I could tell you were musically aware. I was just sad you were not listening and watching the video at the same time.
I’m the same way…I watch reaction channels too.

@@musikbyjh I completely understand.
I could tell you were musically aware. I was just sad you were not listening and watching the video at the same time. I am thrilled that you have NOW seen the outcome of the girl holding the bird. I am a VERY happy woman knowing I have made a difference! 😊😊👗👗👠👠❤❤💋💋💋💋💙💙
