- Wood Duck ducklings (Aix sponsa) hunting American bullfrog tadpoles. This is from the marsh and swamps of Huntley Meadow Park near Alexandria, Virginia. The opening shots in the rain with the adult male Wood Duck in the background and the breeding pair of bullfrogs are from April 13. Shots of the feeding ducklings are from May 18. The three ducklings usually hunted together. The ducks use their feet to stir up the tadpoles from the sediment, creating a feeding frenzy with tadpoles jumping and birds snatching at anything that moves (2:31). One of the ducklings, the small runt of the clutch, was not catching as many tadpoles. A shot of the two siblings waddling along the shore on May 28 shows the huge size difference even in late spring. The turtle is a Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentine). Numerous bird species and some frogs can be heard in the background.

Welcome to BIRDING VISIONS - portraits and sound recordings of birds and their habitats, sharing the sublime beauty of nature. These wildlife videos are both documentary and impressions of an experience. I hope you get a sense of being there: from the Rock Wren of remote Willis Creek Slot Canyon, Utah, singing Whinchat in the coastal heathland of Norway, a band of Arabian Babblers in the desert sands of Israel, to soaring Kites over Kyoto, Japan.
The playlists are organized by geographical region and topic (singing birds, shorebirds, etc). The 200+ videos are from many different places across the globe, with a focus on birds of North America and the Western Palearctic, including Europe, Israel and Morocco. This is a non-monetized no-ads channel. Contact clive.bramham@gmail.com for licensing of footage and other enquiries. Enjoy! Животные
Amazingly beautiful share!
Woah! I had NO IDEA that ducks had such a protein-intense diet!! And so many people talk about 'how nice and cute' ducks are! lol
We need more Clive Bramham videos....and less CNN & Fox drama! ;) Thank you Clive! :) New subscriber here! :)
Well....I can only agree :-) Thanks very much
Wow this is a great video
Great video, I loved the glittering of the water at the beginning.
Yeah, glad to have this shot. It was starting to rain pretty hard and it takes a few moments to get set up. I probably put my cap over the camera.
Really nice video ,didn't know this method of hunting is used by ducklings.
I wonder if acquired learning is involved, either trial and error or from wathcing an adult duck. Herons commonly stir the sediment to scare up prey. Thanks!
Amazing. I had no idea they did this. This little slice of spring is much needed on this cold, snowy day in Michigan
Truly was. I have never seen this before either.
Sorry, my English is not perfect, but what does the playlist mean? Did you not record the bird songs and other sounds in the background when videoing the ducklings?
Nice video by the way.
Hi! The playlist link refer to other videos from the channel, either a geographic region or bird family. So, if you click on the link "Birds of North America", it will take you to a list of all of the videos from North America. Yes, the audio recordings are on location. Numerous species of birds and some frogs can be hear in the background. Cheers, Clive
