- The beautiful Rough Green Snake (Opheodrys aestivus) moves elegantly along the branches and green leaves, flicking its bright red tongue, deftly probing the flower heads in search of insect prey. I was filming Wood Duck ducklings, when I noticed a green snake in the branches overhanging the boardwalk. The Rough Green Snake is separated from the closely related Smooth Green Snake by its longer body, large eyes and angular head, as well as the keeled dorsal scales. Birds shown are male Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) singing and female grooming. The turtle is a Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentine). Among the numerous birds species heard in the background are Red-winged Blackbird, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Oriole, Carolina Wren, Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and Great Crested Flycatcher.

Welcome to BIRDING VISIONS - portraits and sound recordings of birds and their habitats, sharing the sublime beauty of nature. These wildlife videos are both documentary and impressions of an experience. I hope you get a sense of being there: from the Rock Wren of Willis Creek Slot Canyon, Utah, singing Whinchat in the rugged heathland of coastal Norway, a band of Arabian Babblers in Israel, to soaring Kites over Kyoto, Japan.
The playlists are organized by geographical region and topic (singing birds, shorebirds, etc). The 200+ videos are from many different places across the globe, with a focus on birds of North America and the Western Palearctic, including Europe, Israel and Morocco. So peaceful. Thank you for sharing.
A creature "at one" in this place.
Awesome video thanks for identifying those birds in the background I knew exactly what they are by there song, well done I love the rough green snake.
Green snake - either rough or smooth, I don't really care - is still on my must-see list of Virginia snakes. Awesome video, Clive!
Great to hear from you! Now I remember you mentioned Green snake....you know I was up at Sky Meadows twice and saw no snakes!
It's a beautiful little snake. Nicely captured in different angles. Very good 🙂
Exactly. Glad to have the wide shots with the snake still in focus.
That is one mean looking turtle. Like the snake.
Such a beautiful snakie. The swamp there is heaven for the turtles. Merry Christmas!
Great nature scenery, Clive! Merry Christmas 🎅
Merry Christmas Annemieke! These are good days. Best wishes.
Great post, so is the description :)
Rough green snake is also more arboreal than Smooth and more likely to be found in bushes overhanging water.
