    Excellent job! I, too, have a single car garage that I slowly converted from a dark, freezing concrete, prefab with insulation and 22mm mr caber flooring, insulation and osb for the walls. The horrible thing about the small workshop is that every time you start a project, the place becomes so cluttered. I'm not the most organised, and your initial image resonated with me; when I first moved all my junk into the space, it was damp, cold and, quite frankly, a complete shambles. It is no longer a complete shambles or damp, still cold in the winter, as I've not got round to insulation the tin roof.
    I have to say, I've not, as yet, painted my osb walls, but seeing yours, I think it makes a huge difference to the brightness. Getting rid of the ancient, flickering strip light and replacing it with two 600 by 600 LED lights has made a huge difference too. No more shadows or dark corners!
    Thanks for sharing, and good luck with future projects!

      Hi there thanks for your comment! I totally agree with the clutter scenario, any flat surface becomes a dumping ground! I do have some more OSB to paint but I really don’t like painting it so I’m struggling to bring myself to finish it off.
      It’ll be great to see what you have done with yours!
      Thanks and take care!

    Nice workshop you have there.
    I professionally worked out of a single garage for years. It's amazing what you can do in a small space.
    Best tip I ever got for my small workshop was put everything on castors or mobile bases so you can make space if you need it.
    Nice video 👍🏼

      Thanks you buddy! I have my thickness planer on a used bedside table on castors and it’s very handy to move around because I never keep it in the same place. I’ll put more on castors like you suggested thanks! 😁

    bumped into this…… many similar ideas to me…. I installed an electric roll shutter to save headroom and also put a "patio" awning over the door that runs out 2m to give me extra space to work with rain cover. rather than "built-ins" most of my floor cabinets are on wheels….

    Nice work, I'm planning on converting my garage into a workshop and this has given me a few ideas. Still trying to decide whether to a) screed and paint the floor b) build a false floor on 3x2's or c) lay directly on the concrete like you did. To complicate matters I have a manhole cover in the middle that just might need access one day...

    • @jamiesworkshopprojects1617
      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  4 года назад

      Thanks Keith!
      I’d find a way to keep access to the manhole cover if possible. We have one on the drive way and the water company use it to test where blockages are on our street.
      Looking back I could have put some 50mm under the floor and wouldn’t have lost much height

    Nice video! Great transformation. - I’m wondering.. how has the ceiling held up over time, is there any condensation issues? I have a garage similar size to yours, metal corrugated sheet roof I’ve got lots of condensation I’m looking to order PIR boards to insulate, plastic sheet then osb… would you recommend installing the insulation boards tight up to the metal roof? Thanks this would be really helpful.

    • @jamiesworkshopprojects1617
      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  Год назад +1

      Thanks buddy. The ceiling is holding fine and has been up 5 or 6 years now. I had 1 issue with leaking which came from either the nail fixing from above or a gap where the sheets overlapped but after scraping the moss from the roof and adding some sealant to the roof fixings it hasn’t leaked since.
      I also had an issue before insulating with my tools rusting in winter which doesn’t happen now.
      I left around a 20mm air gap between the insulation and the walls/roof.
      2 things I would do differently is to add noggings between the framing and have plywood boards instead of osb.
      Hope this gives you an insight 👍🏻

    • @WoodlyProperty
      @WoodlyProperty Год назад

      @@jamiesworkshopprojects1617 Very helpful 👍 thank you, noggins to support the osb boards is it? I will do just that, there is no ventilation between the joists and space in the roof so I’ve been wondering and found very hard to find information on the internet whether to put insulation board tight to the roof or to leave an air gap. Thanks you

    • @jamiesworkshopprojects1617
      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  Год назад

      @@WoodlyProperty noggins between the studwork in the walls too. Nothing has moved or bowed but it’s just the proper way to do it (I was too cheap).
      If your garage has a side vent like mine, I’d put another one in at the opposite side to create some kind of air flow as well 👍🏻

      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  Год назад +1

      Thank you buddy! A concrete garage is a good idea and there’s no many people wanting rid of theirs 👍🏻
      I’d recommend trying to get one which doesn’t have a sloping roof because of the lack of head room at the back end and to insulate it so your tools won’t go rusty 🙂

      @@jamiesworkshopprojects1617 Good advice! I will bare that in mind. I'm also thinking about doing away with the up and over door and replacing it with patio doors...when the time comes. They seem to be easy to pick for nothing too.

    Nice video. You've made really good progress on that. I've been itching to insulate the roof in my single car garage workshop for ages but apparently 'we have other things to spend money on'.
    How is the 75mm PIR working out? What did you overboard with? I'm thinking 100mm PIR and 9mm OSB for my roof but that may change.

    • @jamiesworkshopprojects1617
      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  4 года назад +1

      Heya buddy. I dropped on really lucky with the 75mm insulation price wise but I would say it’s overkill. 50mm would be enough. Saying that anything is better than what it was like, my tools no longer get rusty in winter and it’s cooler/warmer in summer/winter. I’ve boarded mine out with 9mm osb as I thought it would be more moisture resistant than plywood

    Awesome workshop. My mum has this external detached garage which we don't use and just store random junk, stuff we never use. On our road, we have a area where there is 20 garages lined up but because we have a driveway, the garage has been sitting unused for years. I am thinking of coverting that garage into a workshop. The only issue would be, don't think there is electricity in the garage so will need to look into that. The workshop would be a hobbie workshop, woodworking. But your video differently has given me idea, especially about the roof as my roof is exactly the same as yours, the slate and there is differently gaps. PS: Where do you normally source your wood, homebase, b&q ect. Also, could you recommend a cheap pillar drill, nothing fancy but less than £100.

    • @jamiesworkshopprojects1617
      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  3 года назад

      Thanks buddy. I’ve powered my garage using a 3 way garage consumer unit powering the sockets/lights/outside light. This is connected to the house fuse box. I used to use a timber merchant for the 3x2’s but have since settled on wickes/b&q because I found not much difference in price. Regarding a pillar drill, I have a bench top one I bought from screwfix several years ago for less than £50 which serves my needs nicely. I haven’t had any experience with any others. Good luck on your workshop adventure my friend!

    • @mumihp
      @mumihp 3 года назад +1

      @@jamiesworkshopprojects1617 Thanks for the info. I had a look, because the garage is not near our house, it would be difficulty to get electricity. Would have to run wires underground, notify the council, so looking at £1000+. My mum has a gym room at the back, full insulated and has electricity, so we are going to move all the stuff (junk) from there to the garage so the garage will act as a storage container and I can move use the gym room as a workshop. The only thing I would need to do is, as get some floor mats as it has carpet, paint the room and install some heating. This is probably the most cost effective solution. Also, I did have a look on screfix, found a energizer drill press for £49.99 so brought that. Can't justify spending over £100 on a hobby. Many thanks for the comment, subscribed.

    • @jamiesworkshopprojects1617
      @jamiesworkshopprojects1617  3 года назад +1

      Hi Andrew, I had some leaking once I finished the roof which was really irritating. I cleaned the roof by sweeping away all the moss which had built up and put some silicone sealant around the roof nail as the rubber flange looked weathered and it hasn’t leaked since which is over 2 years now. Hope this helps

    Cheers for sharing. I enjoyed watching that. I'm in a similar situation, and have just replaced the 6' fluorescent tubes with LED battons today. However, I am concerned about my electrical feed (currently 1x double gang socket!). Having bought new tools over the last 18 months (Pillar drill, Table saw, disc/belt sander, shop vac/dust extraction, air compressor etc) I think I need to consider upgrading the power feed / sockets in the garage. All this is too much for one socket (+extensions) right? Should I get an additional consumer unit just for the garage?
