  • Struggling to get DJI Spark to connect to an iOS device with an OTG cable. I found one that works, and if you follow the procedure outlined in the video exactly as I do it, every time, you will always get a solid OTG connection to the Spark. Buy it: us.gearbest.co...
    I'm also not technically using an otg cable, rather just a USB to Lightning cable, cutting out the need for an adapter to make an OTG communication... much cleaner.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Instructions -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
    #1. Power on the DJI Spark
    #2. Power up the Spark RC; wait for it to bind
    #3. Disable Bluetooth and Wifi on the iOS device
    #4. Plug the OTG cable into the Spark RC
    #5. Launch the DJI Go 4 app

    You can get the OTG Cable here in two forms, tablet or mobile (I have the tablet version for the longer cable): us.banggood.com/custlink/GKKGCkgqOj

    Very helpful video John! I wonder why Apple is so goofy to not allow something as common as an OTG cable to work more easily.

      Good question: Apple requires devices to be certified through them for easy use. That's what their MFi Program ("Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad") is all about. DJI didn't MFI-certify the RC with Apple and likely will not do so. The cable I'm using is not certified either,.

    Great information John! BTW, I found out that once you have the OTG working you do not need to repeat these steps when change battery on Spark.

      You are right! You can just reload a new spark battery and keep going. I noticed this as well later on. :) Thank you for the comment!

    One more piece of information about the DJI Go4 App when spark is connected to the RC with OTG cable. When use the play back function on iPad or iPhone during flight the navigation screen will turn blank; to get it back after review the recorded clip / photo during the flight simply exit the DJI Go$ App and relaunch it that worked out for me.
    I own DJI Phantom 1, 2,3,4 and Mavic Pro...this little guy (Spark) requires more steps to setup than all of them. Hope every bit information helps the Spark pilots...:)

    Hey John,
    Cheers for that. Another question can you get 6-700 meters visual coverage through your phone with otg cable on controller obviously without wifi? Cheers

    Curious to know if these same steps/settings apply for android devices,im having a issue with it changing into 2.4 from 5.8
    i also turn off my wifi and enter airplane mode to cancel all forms of wifi/interference.My device note20 is identifying the connection,i just dont know if its through the cable,im only assuming it is being im in airplane mode.

    How do I get the remote to connect to the spark when they're turned on? Normally I have to connect to the remote Wi-Fi and go through the app to link them

    A friend of mine didnt get an OTG cable with his spark just a charge cable and everything else that came with it so how does he get his update

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  5 лет назад

      The spark does not come with an OTG cable - I had to purchase that on my own to do this. The spark itself updated wirelessly or via the computer on USB.

    Latest app update will not allow otg to work properly

      SO is the OTG cable not needed??

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  6 лет назад

      An OTG cable was never needed -- but it provided a wired-in connection between the Spark controller and the tablet/phone device. This did decrease latency in the video feed, even if it was by 0.300-0.400ms or so. A shame that DJI disabled it in newer versions of their DJI Go 4 app apparently.

    Is the OTG cable dead then? Also if you buy the ipad one I noticed it's longer length can u use that for my iphone 6 connection and have the extra length instead of buying the iphone one??

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  6 лет назад

      Someone in the comments claimed that it was dead. I have not verified their claim. I can do so tomorrow if I remember. If you buy the OTG cable I link in this video, you can have the extra length, yes. I have used the cable with my phone as well.

    So this is still the way to go with the newest firmware updates?

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  6 лет назад

      Late reply here sorry but yes. Worked for me just now on iPhone 8+ on iOS 11.3.1 with the latest firmware on the spark. No problems. The wifi icon does not show as greyed out though anymore.
