I made a slight mistake in the comparison shot. The mistake does NOT have anything to do with the switch though!!! Tons more info and new screenshots in the main post: www.retrorgb.com/gamescare-8x2-scart-switch-review.html
Bob, I'm glad you liked it! I was the guy behind the firmware and mobile interface, I tried my best to deliver a good experience for every user. Thanks for the review ;D
I've watched a couple of your old videos today from ~6 years back because it's helping me try and research what's going on with a setup issue I have (I'll document it and let you know as there _might_ be something in there that is not total BS and possibly useful to someone) - lets just say, you've come a long way in that time. :) I also now need to track down an oscilloscope... Been tinkering with my one of these switches since it arrived, seems to be pretty bullet proof. I'd rather the manual selection buttons were easier to get at, but other than that it's great.
Awesome! love seeing alternatives to the gscart besides the hydra. Its great too that they will support additional expansion. The wifi is clutch and such a great addon.
I'm of course going to watch this whole video, but I really appreciate you giving us the no-nonsense jist of it right at the beginning! More RUclipsrs should be like you
I love the way you go against the grain and don’t do all the cringy things RUclips channels do to game the algorithm. Your channel feels so organic and genuine.
Actually, this looks awesome! Being able to name the inputs on the switch and control them from your phone is a killer feature in my case because I may know my setup inside and out, but whenever friends and family want to play they feel awkward asking for help to get the Atari to show up (or switch it to Nintendo or what have you). Something like this combined with an RT4K would mean I could have all my games short of PS5 on one TV input, with named profiles on everything that would make it way more self explanatory for other people. Too bad I only have one SCART console... Any plans to update the component video switch to be more like this? I'd be totally on board for that.
Looks like a really nice scart switcher 🙂 Personally I use a good quality Chinese manual switcher, been really pleased with it. Handles CSYNC without issue and seems well built for the money (about £50) although a completely different league to this piece of kit! I'm a big fan of RGC (cables) though, and highly recommend them and have them for all bar one of my RGB outputting consoles. Thanks for the great review 🙂
I decided a while ago to go with component for all my non-HDMI consoles. Now I am using Extron 6x1 switch for component and Extron 8x1 switch for HDMI. Both switches are auto-switching. Too bad this did not auto-switch component over SCART. Great product none the less.
Thank you for the review! I am looking for a good 8-port SCART switch (I have a 6-port one and that's not enough) and I know I won't be getting this one. WiFi support, smartphone controls, having to wait until it boots up - that is a massive overkill for a SCART switch.
Nice, I do need one with IR or serial control. I will be automating stuff from a touch screen so I can select a console and do everything in the background. Using a web interface is nice but, in my case it does not help. I think the Hydra2 is the only one that really fits my needs... People say it's a good one...
The network aspect of this is really cool. If they could add a announcement rest request setting like Mister Remote added, it would be possible to implement auto profile switching with the 4k (via pico w once the 4k gets a usb interface).
I use GamesCare SCART switches for some years by now, but only willing to upgrade to this, when the Expansion modules are avaliable, currently I need 20 SCART ports, and maybe even some more.
I hope they we get some UK based resellers, $75 ‘economy’ shipping makes Analogue shipping look cheap 😂 Otherwise this looks brilliant and would be an insta purchase!
so are you able to run composite and component through this switcher into a scart input on a television set? looks like you put the nes through it, any picture performance upgrade to doing this or more convenient for multiple input sources through one switch/tv source?
I have a problem with a GamesCare being out of stock lately, I just accidentley "fried" my 4x1 Component switcher and I'm having trouble finding one that isn't the 3x1 Generic Switch.
I got mine today. Hooked it up and found that its causing some audio interference. I've tested both the pass through audio and its dedicated stereo out, they both have this same audio issue. Bypassing the switch, no audio interference. Still trying to troubleshoot.
@@rentoptional1524 Its not buzzing, its like distortion similar when you turn the volume to high. Almost sounds like rattle in the audio when its an higher frequency sound. I'm currently in talks with them and have shared recordings of it. I assume I just got a bad one, or maybe something happened to it in shipping.
@@rentoptional1524 They are still looking into it. I sent them my switch for them to troubleshoot. So hoping to hear something good. We did confirm it is indeed introducing clipping, now its just why is it doing that.
it’ll be nice if gamescare made a 8x2 component version of this, considering the gcompsw from gretro has been way out of reach these days and god knows when we will see anymore restock from gretro themselves.
Would this work with my rgb modded av famicom? Wanting to input my console to the switch, then output the video to my scart modded crt and then to a retrotink for capturing video? Would there be no loss of image quality on either end? Wanting to play on my CRT and then capture video at the same time. Would love to know, as well as any other options if this would not work. Thanks!
Is there a cheaper way to get multiple simultaneous outputs? I want to stream mister FPGA direct video which means capturing SCART that my modded TV supports… and if I’m going to have to get a scaler I’d rather not also drop $200 on a switch when I’m unlikely to SCART mod all the consoles the MiSTer supports.
Are you please able to test if auto switching works with a retrotink comp2rgb or a super nt / mega sg using the analogue dac? I know those can have issues on some auto switchers.
The RetroTINK 5x can't accept component video through the SCART port. Also, Y Pb Pr (component video) are just transferred over the RGB lines, so any shielded SCART cable should work.
SCART can also carry composite video which the NES uses. You can get a basic 3 RCA to SCART adapter but you'd only need two of the RCAs for the NES as it's mono (red for audio, yellow for video). I'm sure there are dedicated cables sold for the NES that split the audio so you hear it in both channels but all you really need is the basic adapter.
10:02 but at this point ur outputting the same signal to two output, right? My question is if I can output ps1 on one pvm and snes on another pvm while all connected through this device.
@@RetroRGBI would be interested in one if you did. Do you think it would be possible to get an adapter for the output side that could feature component and S-video? My N64 is already using the S-Video and audio RCA jacks on my RT5X so I sadly can't connect component without some manual intervention.
The Otaku’s Scart switch. Which has 10 Inputs, 3 Outputs and is Automatic. Costs only 90 Dollars from Ali Express. Where as this costs double and you get less.
The Otaku switch isn't consistent. And they've had shipping and payment issues. You get what you pay for. www.retrorgb.com/10-in-3-out-auto-scart-switch-reviewed.html

The expansion port sold me. This is perfect, but I own over 15 RGB-capable consoles which is why I never got a switcher.

There's no wifi support, but it's otherwise awesome.
I wonder why they opted for a dedicated lcd rather than just popping up the info as an OSD?
That would cost a LOT more money, as you'd have to buffer the signal and add an OSD to it. Good thought though!
Are you please able to test if auto switching works with a retrotink comp2rgb or a super nt / mega sg using the analogue dac? I know those can have issues on some auto switchers.
You’d have to use the switch in manual mode for those.
Now if only PixelFX would release the Infinity Switch.
Could somebody recommend a good, shielded component-over-scart cable (to use with the switcher and retrotink 5x)?
The RetroTINK 5x can't accept component video through the SCART port. Also, Y Pb Pr (component video) are just transferred over the RGB lines, so any shielded SCART cable should work.

Crap, I forgot to show that!!! It would be the same as component video - You'd need to manually select the input, but it WOULD work. Sorry about that!
@@RetroRGB Thanks. 🙂
So I'm guessing it doesn't convert it back to 'normal' like the GScart?
No, just passes through.
