  • Our modern world is saturated with blue light exposure, from our devices at home to those in the workplace. With chronic exposure to artificial light and insufficient exposure to sunlight, we often overlook the long-term impact on our circadian rhythms. Today’s guest joins us to raise awareness about blue light exposure and urges us to make simple changes in our daily routines to mitigate the risk of chronic disease.
Today, on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru sits down with Dr. Martin Moore-Ede. Dr. Moore-Ede discusses the risks of chronic blue light exposure and its impact on our health. Specifically, he highlights alarming research showing how it disrupts our circadian rhythms and increases breast cancer rates among women with exposure. Dr. Moore-Ede also explores the correlation between light exposure and obesity and sheds light on why these dangers aren’t widely discussed in mainstream media.
Dr. Martin Moore-Ede is a highly respected expert in circadian rhythms and light's impact on our health. As a former professor at Harvard Medical School, he has conducted extensive research on the role of light in regulating our sleep-wake cycles and overall well-being. Dr. Moore-Ede's groundbreaking work includes the discovery of the suprachiasmatic nucleus, a crucial biological clock in the brain that controls our daily rhythms.
In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Moore-Ede dive into:
-The impact of electric light on the risk of breast cancer
-How blue-rich light disrupts our circadian rhythm
    -Lack of exposure to sunlight
-Balancing sun exposure and the risk of developing skin cancer
-The correlation between blue light and obesity
    -Dr. Moore-Ede’s research discoveries
-Why these dangers aren’t discussed in mainstream medicine
-Hospital lighting that doesn’t promote healing
    -Dr. Moore-Ede’s origin story
-Steps to immediately reduce your exposure
-What is at stake when you fail to prioritize reducing exposure

Correlation imo. Women without electric lights are also not eating processed food.

Great insight, it doesn't sound like a lot of this is causation. Generally speaking, people who stay up at night tend to eat less healthy due to the convenience of unhealthy foods. But also, people who go outside more, are probably outside for walks or exercise which would make them healthier than someone who stays indoors. Hard to call it straight facts about how harmful blue light is, right?

Very true- but the “blind women in western countries” does have some appeal for the argument. Of course they may have healthier lifestyles, on average- perhaps less likely to be bread-winners, care-givers, or hard partiers.

It might be caused by light as people on night shift eat more sugary foods compare to people on regular jobs. This remains the same if people sleep lights on

Hospital doctors should listen to this. Way too many lights on in patient rooms during the night. Can cause delirium in the elderly. ICU stays can cause major disorientation.

The lighting industry was well aware of what they were doing. I have good evidence through first contacts of researchers that know firsthand that at least some of the lighting manufacturers were banking on relighting the world with bright white blue-rich wavelength LED even though they were well aware of the research that showed the potential health risk. The LED light with minimal blue /1800K Amber was not ready yet for installation. The manufacturers were banking on the potential of lighting the world with white LEDs, and then re-lighting them again a decade later or so when the public awareness peaked & demand safer lighting. Lighting industry scores twice! Lighting industry ought to be held accountable. The lighting industry knew what they were doing just like the tobacco industry knew what they were doing and subjected the population with 50 years of needless harm.

This is important information. I'm adding light consciousness (when and how much) to my lifestyle changes so that I can keep my cancer at bay. Thank you for stressing consistency - I have difficulty with this. Your knowledge of the study details (like "south and east," e.g., along with other studies) helps this light issue make sense so I can better incorporate it towards the goal of consistency. This videocast crossed my path at the right time!Thank you very much, Dr. Moore and Dhru!!

Yes, but to maximize , eliminate use of screens that meant blue light for one to two hours before bedtime or utilize a blue blocker film , Blue blocker goggles that are wrap-around. use Amber nightlight in the bathroom and hallway in case you need to make that midnight trip. Get plenty of blue light during the daytime especially 10 AM is a special time as well as daybreak and sunset.

If you are sleeping in a room that is blacked out, your body will decrease melatonin production when you use a flashlight on your legs. So a sleep mask on your eyes does not do the trick unfortunately. I wish it was that easy.

    • @audreyfischer8662
      @audreyfischer8662 26 дней назад

@@aeonwindsoeur The main detector for blue light at night is 3 out of every 100 gaglionic cells within the retina. They have only one job- message to the SCN (the masterclock / like a conductor of an orchestra) within the hypothalamus when blue light is detected. Upon detection, the SCN shuts down melatonin (the chemical signature for darkness ) within 1.5 seconds. This is why sleeping masks are effective.

@@lucylu9792 Bless you LucyLu. Become the expert in your disease. Follow the research. Understand what your body needs to do to win this challenge. Thank your body for putting up the good fight. Do everything you can in diet and lifestyle . Surround yourself with positive people. Immerse yourself in the research, and even consider attending the conferences dedicated to your challenge. You have no time to worry. You need to be proactive. Worry will only cause your body more stress. Nearly 51 years ago, I was given a prognosis of three months to live with a cancer that no one beat before three hospitals recommended to my parents that I refuse any chemotherapy or any treatment at all. They said that no one beat this disease before and she won’t either. You will regret the rest of your life that you put Audrey through misery of the last three months she has. Instead, go out on a vacation and enjoy. Thank God for my parents. They did not give up. Researchers saved my life. Also, incidentally, and maybe not so incidentally - - thanks to God again, two years of monthly 3 to 5 days strict fasting timed with my chemo treatments put my body in ketosis. This is a state that is known to starve certain cancers. I have no doubt that this is part of the reason of my success. However, it was unknown 50 years ago that certain cancers cannot metabolize stored fat. My point is that my cure, at least partially, is like the ruby slippers. It was within your own grasp all the time - - provided by God. Sometimes, it takes the researchers to tease it all out and let science explain, see how in the way it works or does not work. God bless the researchers. Get busy young lady. You have a lot of work to do.
