My mother suddenly developed dementia last year. She also had several problems that I didn't associate with dementia, like losing her balance, and trouble swallowing. During the holidays she went completely off the rails, and it suddenly occurred to me that her condition became much worse after the sugary holiday meals. She and I both now are on the ketogenic diet. Her improvement has been astonishing. Besides coming back from dementia, she is no longer falling or having trouble swallowing. She stopped hallucinating and is fairly well oriented. She says she's been sleeping better in addition. I thought she was going to have to go to a nursing home. I've even been saying that our whole nation, young and old, is cognitively impaired because of the sugar levels in most diets.

Balance issues? Trouble swallowing? You may really consider looking into trauma / stress / suppressing of emotions or anxiety. Especially "trouble swallowing" happens when you are holding tension in your throat. Sounds a lot like blocked grief or anger.

I’m a neurologist and I can attest to poor metabolic health in patients with dementia. Rarely, I see healthy individuals encountering DM. Clinical docs- if you’re watching this. Please advise your patients accordingly. No one talks to patients about good basic nutrition. Where are we without good nutrition. I think we need to have Bickman, Berry, Ali, and a few others, need to perform grand rounds in various hospitals and educate us “uneducated” physicians.

Make sure you incorporate a lot of Fido nutrients found in berries, cacao powder, turmeric powder, garlic garlic and ginger. Stay away from packaged food. Remember boxed foods do not grow in nature so don’t eat them they have preservatives. Make sure you read the labels of anything you take in. You don’t necessarily need organic foods you just need real Whole Foods, since she needs a low carbohydrate high protein. stay away from alcoholic beverages, soda pop even if they are diet. Excellent review. There are a few noncommunicable diseases plaguing modern society that can't be be prevented, cured or at least greatly ameliorated through a combination of intermittent fasting and ketogenic diets. Unfortunately food processing and diabetes management are some of the most profitable sectors of the economy. It took me more than 20 years of cardiology practice before I fully recognized diabetes to be a completely preventable and often curable condition rather than the chronic, progressive disease it had been marketed to me as from medical school through my first 15 years of practice. The most satisfying part of my job used to be unblocking coronary arteries. Now it is taking people off of their diabetic and antihypertensive medications using the only medicine that actually cures...Real Food!

I’m not in the medical industry but learned this to be true through my deep dive of healing my body of health issues brought on by ptsd. I was diagnosed with this but it was never communicated. I was sent to cardiologists, neurologist and more, I was just given more meds which in turn caused more issues. Once I weaned off all these meds on my own and went back to eating clean and following a low carb diet my health issues were resolved. I’ve never ad diabetes but brought studying food and high learned it’s a metabolic disease which means its a preventable and curable by the food that is eaten. If you don’t eat sugar, avoid processed foods and certain carbohydrates diabetes goes away.
They want us to stay sick because of greed and profit. Research how and why pharmaceutical companies went from selling vitamins and minerals t prevent an cure diseases to selling drugs that only treat and guarantee return customers for life. Then look at the family that started this as well as who funds the private owned company that educates the students pursuing medical degrees in universities. The pharmaceutical companies lobbied for this to happen.
This is why most doctors with all their knowledge don’t understand that food can heal you just as well as a pill for instance instead of blood thinners eat these foods…. Diabetics prevention and reversal avoid these foods etc.
Our lack of knowledge is killing us.

Been this way since 2017.... Never felt better in my life... lost over 100 pounds... I can fast for days easily without getting hungry much... There was a time when I would become restless and uncomfortable by missing one meal... I've always been told that the discomfort and hunger during a fast is because of a sugar addiction... I don't even eat fruits, because of the fructose... It's so much easier to concentrate when you sleep well and don't eat sugar... There's nothing like fasting and meditation to clear your mind, and sharpen your awareness... People who sell products with high fructose corn syrup should be incarcerated. How does one systematically reduce Insulin resistance? CHANGE your diet, go low carbohydrates more Protein and Oily food because Dr Bikman says the best protein comes with a little fat. We need to go Keto, and reduce Insulin another way which is soak up all the Glucose through exercise, because muscle cells apparently do not require as much Insulin to take up excess Glucose.😮

I was diagnosed a type 1 diabetic in 1970. My insulin resistance has dropped only with a very low-carbohydrate diet. Type 1 diabetics are encouraged by their endocrinologists to eat at least 100 grams of carbohydrates a day, and a slow but unrelenting weight gain and a constant rise in insulin resistance was what I had - and I suspect it’s becoming usual for a type 1.

High carb is causing a lot of health issue due to the body unable to support such diets. Going low carbs will improve your health span more so than high carb diet. Our food intakes matters for our health and well-being.

Type 1 diabetes is a autoimmune disease that is reversible by, getting your vitamin D3 level to 125-150 ng/mL (confirmed by 25-hyroxyvitaminD3 blood test) assuming your magnesium level is at 6mg/dL as confirmed by the RBC Mg blood test. High D3 levels causes greater gene expression requiring more magnesium, zinc , vitamin C.

I recently got a CGM and it's been blowing my mind. I think the craziest thing is seeing the dawn phenomenon directly. For example, I can wake up and immediately check my level and it will be around 100 or so. 10-15 minutes later, it will be 140-160. That is just wild and really unexpected. It takes many hours for my body to recover from that, and I haven't even taken in any glucose yet!

1:19:00 Why has canola oil not yet been mentioned?
_The polyunsaturated fats in canola oil include 21% linoleic acid - more commonly known as omega-6 fatty acid - and 11% alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid derived from plant sources._
    That's a 2:1 ratio achieved by a seed oil.

Canola is controversial. If cold pressed and u don't heat it, some say it's healthy. Others argue it oxidizes quickly and that is very bad for you, so even if it isn't refined, it causes inflammation. I avoid canola.

4:10 Ouch. It's not appropriate to compare p-values in this way, if I know anything at all about statistics. How well one distinguishes from the null hypothesis for a true hypothesis is determined by the power of the study, as well as the magnitude of the effect. Unless both studies had the same statistical power, this assertion lies in no man's land.

Follow up comment. My mother (86) developed vascular dementia and now lives in a memory care assisted living home.
I absolutely hate (and have made it known to management) what the residents diet (plus snacks & treats🙄) is, but at this point, if you abruptly changed their diet, I’m afraid it would confuse and upset them all. I can’t help but think they’re slowly killing them with high starch, sugar, breads, etc.
If I had known years ago what I know now thanks to Dr Ben & Dhru & Dr Jamnadas & others… maybe I could’ve prevented my mom from developing dementia.

One of the main reasons we overproduce these less than entirely healthy foods is that production is cheap and efficient compared to healthier alternatives.
