the greatest man on earth
The Talentedest Man On Earth
Ten years (?) ago, a friend in Boston sent me a video of him playing. Bought the album and listened to it probably 500 times in a row. Looked to see if he was playing in Seattle any time soon, and it turned out he was playing at the Triple Door the next day. Got two tickets, saw the show and ended up chatting with Kristian afterward by the merch table. He was so sweet and ended up giving me a corona and a shirt. haha. A couple days later, I was going through the airport and three different TSA people looked at me and said "I thought you'd be taller..." which seemed extremely random and had me very confused. Only as I was walking down the jetway to board did I realize I was wearing a shirt that said "THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH"
I totally got a man-crush on Kristian. xD
I saw him in Boston!! Then I tried to sound like him.. didn't work
This corona comment aged nicely
"ended up giving me a corona". That almost scared me. Haha
the corona part really scared me for a second haha
"Johnny and Mary" cover is absolutely beautiful.
Track list:
00:39 "Somewhere In the Mountains, Somwhere In New York"
05:28 "Johnny and Mary"
17:58 "Then I Won‘t Sing No More"
22:50 "Forever Is A Very Long Time"
Lúkas Bmr You the real MVP
Kristian is just so humble and great. That series of videos of his truly was something special!
He's such a beautiful person. He really is.
One of the many perks of being Scandinavian?
Hey Iksbr, ist the series on youtube? And if so, would you be so kind and provide a link?
That version of forever is a very long time looks like it nearly tore him to pieces. Such a brave and honest performance. Thanks Kristian
The longest nails on earth.
Such a great guy.
He's a character that I haven't paid as much attention to as I ought to...but this episode and his slight eccentric, scattered, humble and in the moment weirdness makes him charming and real.
Jim Morisson said it best. "We All Have A Will To Be Wierd"
#LizardKing
Johnny and Mary is just amazing!
kexp and tallest man on earth is a wonderful combination. this is just splendid
Maybe 2019 isn’t gonna be so bad after all, this man gives me hope.
Well said
Welcome to 2020. Hahahahahahahaha
This aged like milk
@@erodict5840 and even more now
Then I Won't Sing Anymore.....wow that was bliss.
A cover of ‘Johnny and Mary’ ... ohhh yes!! 🙌🏻♥️🙌🏻
I love that idea of the artist just diving into those moments and feelings with abandon, and then coming back from there with these great musical moments. Fantastic set, thank you once again KEXP for shining a light on the breadth of talent in the world.
This guy shreds
This makes me remember....and i just wanna tell him, "you will be ok".
Nice, thank you for this wonderful thing!
Last sunday I the pleasure of going to one of kristian's concerts near to my hometown (which was awesome btw) and at the end of it me and a friend of mine hang out over by the tour bus hoping maybe we would catch Kristian and trade a few quick words with him. Me and my friend waited quite a while ( along with a cool lady that we ended up talking to) and then when kristian showed up he came on to greet us and he stayed and talked to us normally for a very long time despite being knackered and everything. we all had a great time and seeing him as a "regular", kind and funny person really meant the world to me :)
I’ve been a fan of his music for years and I finally saw him perform in Dallas last night and now it’s confirmed, I’m in love with this guy and his voice and his humbleness and yea.
still great! good stuff.
Saw this dude live a few years ago. Incredible show.
He's so intentional when he's preforming. I love it!
Superb! Thank You!
what the heck!?!? i missed this on my notifications!? love this man! THEE Tallest Man On Earth!!
Love it! Thank you very much, The Tallest Man & KEXP
So full of talent and so humble at the same time! we need more of this kind of musicians
That was really something. Heartwarming and sincere. Lovely.
Wonderful!!
the world would be a better place if everyone would listen to The tallest man on earth's music. I love you man, thank you for giving so much to your listeners.
I love how he reused the progression from "My Dear" off his new album to shape this version of "Somewhere in the Mountains...". Really makes his process transparent.
I can't help but think of this guy still struggling through a divorce after so many years. Forever is a Very Long Time just shows how absolutely torn up he is/was. The lyrics make me so sad for him, but its also beautiful and that makes it poetic. Love that song with all my heart and hope he can find love again if he hasn't already. There can be a new forever, bud.
this takes me from my room to a sunny meadow far away from everything in seconds. always a fan
Such manners and pure respect. I love this dude. Been listening since 2011 and he doesn't get old.
dude is soooooo amazing
Absolute bliss. Love Somewhere in the Mountains, somewhere in New York - excellent banjo work!
Thank you! ❤
Spreading some love for sure
I'm having a day of depression, a real episode I cant shake or distract from at work. There was nothing I needed more than Kristian's wonderful voice and talent to just...control the feelings. It's so perfect and I'm falling back in love with his music the more I watch and listen to this video.
Thank you KEXP, Thank you Tallest Man On Earth
I feel this ❤️ depression sucks, but music is grand!
I love the way he enjoys himself while singing
Kristian is honestly if not todays best songwriter, amongst the best. His music makes my day better.
This album is so much like “the beast in it’s tracks” by Josh Ritter, both are post divorce albums and the pain of losing the love of your life really gives artists something great to work with, apparently.
There's nobody like this cat. Legendary
Such a wonderful artist
Thank you.
We love you, Kristian.
love this man
I listen to this guy & Everytime, not necessarily a sad tear, but a tear pores down my face.!! Keep it comin Bro, I too believe I lost my love of my life, U keep your head up and please, keep singing!!
#NoSuchThingAsASoulmate
I will sure come back here very often
That was so sad I'm crying, I wish we could all just hug him, I hope love finds him soon.
Scandinavians covering Robert Palmer. I thoroughly enjoyed this version, as well as Todd Terje/Bryan Ferry's version. Great set, thanks KEXP, as always.
i love this !!
I'm glad I know now how he gets that droning sound on "forever" se7en strings! Best radio station on Earth
No need to be cool, the way you put your world to word and music is very powerful. A focus and a river for us to allow ourselves to flow upon, something we can share but don't need to create is very appreciated. Your reality is shared by many, many of us. Thank you for making music that gives us a shortcut to get to a better place in our lives and the world.
Two absolutely wonderful people: Kristian and Cheryl. Kristian's music has really helped me, especially in the last few weeks, and Cheryl is just absolutely the best interviewer in music. So kind, so engaged, puts every musician at ease and asks great questions based on her experience of their music. Keep up the great work both of you :-)
I‘m getting „Low Roar“ vibes off this. Love it!
he is a legend
Amo la música de este tipo
His emotion at the end
I LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM
Had a really tough day and then found this. I love these songs and videos. Thank you for being honest Kristian. It is comforting to see that we are all just human.
That last sentence is magical ✨
He reminds me so much of an old best friend…I love him, miss him and now I have to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since we graduated high school
i saw him live for the first time the same day of this recording in Seattle. It was such an amazing experience. i even waited after to meet him and he is just has nice and humble as he appears. the nicest man on earth
Wyatt Beeler
That’s awesome... I’m so jealous!! ;)
The little chuckle before he says all the time at the end broke me down.
YAAAAAAAAAS!
great to see him playing some banjo :)
OOOH AAAAH HE IS BACK
Curtindo esse som muito bom aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
This is why I'm a subscriber!
super
Finally he comes back..
Sheryl has such a lovely voice! It's a pleasure listening to her although she speaks american englisch! Can't say that about anyone else…
its cool
Please tell me Cheryl gave him a hug after that last song.
i wanna give him more than that lmao..omg hes hot
Whoa
❤️
I DON'T KNOW WHO THIS GUY IS BUT I LOVE THE WAY HE PLAYS THAT BANJO AND HIS SONG FOR THE INFINIT COMMERCIAL "AS YOU TRAVEL.." I LOVE IT AND IM A NEW YORKER.
I seen the new commercial for Infiniti and I loved his voice so I looked him. up.
Yes! Yes!, Heard the same thing & could not, would not stop singing it in my head!!!
#LovinIt
gotta love how the intro to Somewhere In The Mountains is actually the beginning of My Dear
I'm in love with a man I've never seen in real life and that is something only music can do. Thank you for your work.
Longest Nails On Earth
Bring him back already.
Invite The KVB please easily one of the best new wave electronic bands
Am I the only one who hearing the high-pitched sound during the interview? (10:00). Maybe not a big deal, but it is something related to this particular video.
I’m glad you’re here helping me in bad times and inspiring me for my songs. You’re a muse for me and I think I’m not the only one to feel this way. Thank you and carry on, you have my ears and heart.
Im minoring in sound engineering and my main source to find good examples is either kexp or npr also sylvia massey stuff
*Love is all?.*
Does anyone have an idea on the banjo tuning? Sounds fantastic
eCGCD
There's some ongoing whistling in the background throughout the video, just a heads up.
same thing
I love KEXP for bringing all these great artists in their studio, maybe you could bring Sigrid, from Norway in the studio? Or boy pablo, girl in red etc.. There are some exciting artists right now from Norway with awesome music! Keep it up!
Is that woman from AfroNorwegian funk duo ‘Nefertiti’s Fjord’?
looks kind of short to me? ;)
🤤🤤🤤
So much better than the studio versions! The sound here is rich, raw and layered and gives depth to the songs. The same tunes on the album are overproduced and uselessly polished... they just don't do justice to the performer
Goddamn he can play some guitar.
Colin
And a banjo it appears!! ;)
That chord at 27:28 !
It’s a V7 chord. Very basic
are the tallest man on earth's fingernails the reason he doesn't reply back to my texts?
Affirmative
Acrylic ones, glued on to his picking hand. His fretting hand doesn't have them, so he's obviously just ghosting you... sorry.
It's probably just you. I mean, he still has his nose, right?
That's some classical guitar playing nails
please god tell me that thumbnail is acrylic
jzonkel I was thinking the same thing! It has to be, look at the color of it.
Love the bit of freestyle at the end of the last song!
Never stop freestyling Christian!!!!:D ( even tho you were not happy with it it seemed;P )
I feel like it wasn't so much freestyling as it was him almost breaking to pieces which is understandable when you really listen to the lyrics
Both Kristian and Sheryl's gettin oldddd.
