Ten years (?) ago, a friend in Boston sent me a video of him playing. Bought the album and listened to it probably 500 times in a row. Looked to see if he was playing in Seattle any time soon, and it turned out he was playing at the Triple Door the next day. Got two tickets, saw the show and ended up chatting with Kristian afterward by the merch table. He was so sweet and ended up giving me a corona and a shirt. haha. A couple days later, I was going through the airport and three different TSA people looked at me and said "I thought you'd be taller..." which seemed extremely random and had me very confused. Only as I was walking down the jetway to board did I realize I was wearing a shirt that said "THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH"
Track list: 00:39 "Somewhere In the Mountains, Somwhere In New York" 05:28 "Johnny and Mary" 17:58 "Then I Won‘t Sing No More" 22:50 "Forever Is A Very Long Time"
the world would be a better place if everyone would listen to The tallest man on earth's music. I love you man, thank you for giving so much to your listeners.
I can't help but think of this guy still struggling through a divorce after so many years. Forever is a Very Long Time just shows how absolutely torn up he is/was. The lyrics make me so sad for him, but its also beautiful and that makes it poetic. Love that song with all my heart and hope he can find love again if he hasn't already. There can be a new forever, bud.
I love that idea of the artist just diving into those moments and feelings with abandon, and then coming back from there with these great musical moments. Fantastic set, thank you once again KEXP for shining a light on the breadth of talent in the world.
I’ve been a fan of his music for years and I finally saw him perform in Dallas last night and now it’s confirmed, I’m in love with this guy and his voice and his humbleness and yea.
He's a character that I haven't paid as much attention to as I ought to...but this episode and his slight eccentric, scattered, humble and in the moment weirdness makes him charming and real.
Two absolutely wonderful people: Kristian and Cheryl. Kristian's music has really helped me, especially in the last few weeks, and Cheryl is just absolutely the best interviewer in music. So kind, so engaged, puts every musician at ease and asks great questions based on her experience of their music. Keep up the great work both of you :-)
i saw him live for the first time the same day of this recording in Seattle. It was such an amazing experience. i even waited after to meet him and he is just has nice and humble as he appears. the nicest man on earth
Had a really tough day and then found this. I love these songs and videos. Thank you for being honest Kristian. It is comforting to see that we are all just human.
Last sunday I the pleasure of going to one of kristian's concerts near to my hometown (which was awesome btw) and at the end of it me and a friend of mine hang out over by the tour bus hoping maybe we would catch Kristian and trade a few quick words with him. Me and my friend waited quite a while ( along with a cool lady that we ended up talking to) and then when kristian showed up he came on to greet us and he stayed and talked to us normally for a very long time despite being knackered and everything. we all had a great time and seeing him as a "regular", kind and funny person really meant the world to me :)
No need to be cool, the way you put your world to word and music is very powerful. A focus and a river for us to allow ourselves to flow upon, something we can share but don't need to create is very appreciated. Your reality is shared by many, many of us. Thank you for making music that gives us a shortcut to get to a better place in our lives and the world.
Scandinavians covering Robert Palmer. I thoroughly enjoyed this version, as well as Todd Terje/Bryan Ferry's version. Great set, thanks KEXP, as always.
I listen to this guy & Everytime, not necessarily a sad tear, but a tear pores down my face.!! Keep it comin Bro, I too believe I lost my love of my life, U keep your head up and please, keep singing!! #NoSuchThingAsASoulmate
This album is so much like “the beast in it’s tracks” by Josh Ritter, both are post divorce albums and the pain of losing the love of your life really gives artists something great to work with, apparently.
I love how he reused the progression from "My Dear" off his new album to shape this version of "Somewhere in the Mountains...". Really makes his process transparent.
I DON'T KNOW WHO THIS GUY IS BUT I LOVE THE WAY HE PLAYS THAT BANJO AND HIS SONG FOR THE INFINIT COMMERCIAL "AS YOU TRAVEL.." I LOVE IT AND IM A NEW YORKER.
I’m glad you’re here helping me in bad times and inspiring me for my songs. You’re a muse for me and I think I’m not the only one to feel this way. Thank you and carry on, you have my ears and heart.
Am I the only one who hearing the high-pitched sound during the interview? (10:00). Maybe not a big deal, but it is something related to this particular video.
I love KEXP for bringing all these great artists in their studio, maybe you could bring Sigrid, from Norway in the studio? Or boy pablo, girl in red etc.. There are some exciting artists right now from Norway with awesome music! Keep it up!
Never had a complaint about KEXP audio quality before, but the extremely trebly recording and sharp reverb make this difficult to listen to in earbuds. :(
Totally agree, I got really disappointed of the audio quality of this video. It's noticeable from the interview part in the start throughout the video. :(

"Johnny and Mary" cover is absolutely beautiful.
Kristian is just so humble and great. That series of videos of his truly was something special!
He's such a beautiful person. He really is.
One of the many perks of being Scandinavian?
Hey Iksbr, ist the series on youtube? And if so, would you be so kind and provide a link?
That version of forever is a very long time looks like it nearly tore him to pieces. Such a brave and honest performance. Thanks Kristian
Johnny and Mary is just amazing!
A cover of ‘Johnny and Mary’ ... ohhh yes!! 🙌🏻♥️🙌🏻
kexp and tallest man on earth is a wonderful combination. this is just splendid
Kristian is honestly if not todays best songwriter, amongst the best. His music makes my day better.

Such a great guy.

this takes me from my room to a sunny meadow far away from everything in seconds. always a fan
Such manners and pure respect. I love this dude. Been listening since 2011 and he doesn't get old.
He's a character that I haven't paid as much attention to as I ought to...but this episode and his slight eccentric, scattered, humble and in the moment weirdness makes him charming and real.
Jim Morisson said it best. "We All Have A Will To Be Wierd"

We love you, Kristian.
He reminds me so much of an old best friend…I love him, miss him and now I have to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since we graduated high school
The little chuckle before he says all the time at the end broke me down.
Absolute bliss. Love Somewhere in the Mountains, somewhere in New York - excellent banjo work!

I'm in love with a man I've never seen in real life and that is something only music can do. Thank you for your work.
That was so sad I'm crying, I wish we could all just hug him, I hope love finds him soon.
I‘m getting „Low Roar“ vibes off this. Love it!
This makes me remember....and i just wanna tell him, "you will be ok".
I LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM

Superb! Thank You!
Nice, thank you for this wonderful thing!
Whoa
gotta love how the intro to Somewhere In The Mountains is actually the beginning of My Dear
Finally he comes back..
Am I the only one who hearing the high-pitched sound during the interview? (10:00). Maybe not a big deal, but it is something related to this particular video.

❤️
*Love is all?.*
Is that woman from AfroNorwegian funk duo ‘Nefertiti’s Fjord’?
Does anyone have an idea on the banjo tuning? Sounds fantastic
eCGCD
There's some ongoing whistling in the background throughout the video, just a heads up.
same thing
Im minoring in sound engineering and my main source to find good examples is either kexp or npr also sylvia massey stuff
That chord at 27:28 !
It’s a V7 chord. Very basic
Love the bit of freestyle at the end of the last song!
Never stop freestyling Christian!!!!:D ( even tho you were not happy with it it seemed;P )
I feel like it wasn't so much freestyling as it was him almost breaking to pieces which is understandable when you really listen to the lyrics
Goddamn he can play some guitar.
Colin
And a banjo it appears!! ;)
Never had a complaint about KEXP audio quality before, but the extremely trebly recording and sharp reverb make this difficult to listen to in earbuds. :(
Totally agree, I got really disappointed of the audio quality of this video. It's noticeable from the interview part in the start throughout the video. :(

I love that his interviews are becoming less hipster
Cheryl Waters...still taller
