  • On Tuesday May 28th, Mandolin Orange played a special set at the North Carolina Executive Mansion in Raleigh to help usher in a partnership between Come Hear North Carolina and the Americana Music Association (AMA). Governor Roy Cooper and First Lady Kristin Cooper hosted musicians, AMA members, and press to celebrate all that North Carolina has given to the world of music, and Mandolin Orange provided the perfect soundtrack to the occasion. Enjoy the full performance below.

    Your music has accompanied me through deep and expansive loss - my wife died. Shortly after her passing I found your music and felt that Mary was gifting you to me and thank you for that. Here I am 6 years later and still follow you and find your melodies and lyrics really speak to my spirit. Living now in Montana and there is something special about the way your music almost makes this landscape and the wildness that is western Montana, come alive in a new way. Thank you, maybe someday you'll make your way to Montana to sing and inspire and minister.

      Sadness is as much a part of our life experience as joy, happiness, etc. Revel in your sadness, we all have to live it. Sorry for your loss and glad this music touches you. I really first heard Golden Embers just after my sister in law died. Definitely speaks to the emotion of the moment. Beautiful music.

And, making it weirder, every time I see Emily I start getting in touch with my inner hero and want to grab a sword, jump on my horse, ride out, and make the world safe for her. Emily is a crushing combination of ear candy/eye candy; her pretty smile compliments her sweet singing and playing. I'm from the Midwest, but I've traveled a lot and North Carolina and the Piedmont region is perhaps the most musical part of our beautiful country. How fitting for them to honor the long list of unforgettable musicians, and indirectly, the very musical regular people who have lived in NC. the song at 15:00. omg. what a stunning display of being connected. It's not just reading the syncopation. It's breathing it. There may be many equals out there, but none any better.

    "It should have been different, it could have been easy." Best summary of the tragedy of history I have ever heard. Don't think it will ever be bettered. Really intelligent song. Touches the heart. Puts words to how I feel about the history I have seen with my own eyes.

      Colin kelley, I'm right there with you. That song feels spot on in this day and age. This should be easier. But the true demise is hatred passed down through the years... and pride has a way of holdin' too firm. Boy doesn't it.

      I'd heard "Wildfire" a few times, including at a live show in L.A. this year and it moved me deeply, and that was before I read the words and really got it. Once of the best songs about racism ever. These folks are extraordinary.

    • @koltoncrane3099
      @koltoncrane3099 2 года назад

      Michael the song isn’t just about racism. Only a small portion of the south owned slaves. Look at Lincoln. He wanted to just deport all blacks. The north was just as racist towards blacks.
      The real issue was the south was paying 75% of federal taxes. The civil war was really about state’s rights vs a massive federal government. Now we have the largest federal government in history with the most amount of debt ever in worlds history more than any country or empire to exist. We have like 200 trillion in unfunded liabilities like Medicare and social security. And by 2035 some old people aren’t going to be getting checks because the government causing inflation is destroying social securities assets which is only debt. Wildfire is a good song, but the civil war wasn’t about slavery at first. Lincoln only freed the slaves to ensure he won the war. Be interesting to see if the US has massive inflation or we default.

    • @colinkelley6493
      @colinkelley6493 2 года назад +1

      @@koltoncrane3099 I think you are right about what the Civil War was really about when it started, but Ulysis S Grant retired for awhile and was called back into the military during the Civil War. In the inbetween he inherited or was given a farm by family somewhere in the midwest and with the farm came a bunch of slaves. He immediately set them free, helped them with their paperwork and helped them get established, no strings attached. He paid some of their expenses out of pocket for awhile. His family disowned him and took the farm back. During the war, when his forces captured an area, with slaves, he invited them to lunch, he made sure their paperwork was correct, made sure they became freed Americans, and then gave them jobs in the military helping with logistics and with adjusting to being free. He told them, if anyone gave them any trouble, to let him know personally, and he meant it. He did it because it was the right thing to do, but the the black community was and is tight and the black vote pretty much everywhere pushed him over the top to win the Presidential election. Everyone, including he himself was surprised. At that time the black community was pretty much 100% Republican. The Southern Democrats invented the Jim Crow chain gangs. Hillary's mentor, Senator Byrd was a KKK grand poopah until the day he died. Hillary herself is a racist.

Watching the pain in the US right now is a killer, and ``Wildfire'' just about ended me. I wish my brother could hear it and understand, but, that's just not happening. Thank you for this beautiful thing.

    Is it the love of the two in their gaze...or the strings that pull us all towards....or the harmony closest to heaven as we have heard..or just the happiness that they share.
    This is - Beyond good. Beyond heavenly. Beyond love.
    And if Wildfire doesn't change minds, I guess nothing will....
